People who get angry about this song either aren't listening to it or don't understand it. He isn't bashing anyone's beliefs, he's asking everyone to stop and think about what a world with love and without hate could be. As you said, you might not agree with everything he said, but I am glad that you appreciated his sentiment.
“She looks pissed.” I laughed! Yoko usually looks stoic, but she does show a playful, happy side at times. John’s son Julian did a recording and video of “Imagine” last year. He said he’d never sing the song but did so for charity. It was the first time he sang “Imagine.”
It absolutely did, I died a little then too, and along with it, my youth. It STILL hurts to this day. I remember the night he was murdered like it was yesterday, it was worse than when JFK was assassinated. I was 33 years old when John was murdered on Dec. 8th, 1980, and was 16 when President Kennedy was killed on Nov.22, 1963.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, in my opinion. It still touches me, no matter how many times I have heard it over the years. Still so poignant today, maybe even more so now.
Sometimes when I hear this song tears flow from my eyes cause my own father was also murdered victim of robbery and even after he handed over his money the guy still shot him !! Hard to forgive him and the jerk who killed Lennon. Don't keep up with his whereabouts but I hope he never sees the light of day !!

The Vietnam War was continuing beyond futility when this song was released. All wars have been fought because of religion, borders, jealousy and/or greed. What if we stripped everything away that divides us? Can you Imagine a world of brotherhood and love? All people on Earth have so much more in common than they realize, but we tend to focus more on our insignificant differences. Humanity needs to mature while we still can.
Such a powerful & beautiful song. He is listing the things people fight & die for & saying if they did not exist, there would be no wars. This was released the year I graduated. 1971 & the Vietnam was still raging & my brother was there. The war ended in 1975. & John & his wife Yoko Ono were against the war & all about peace & love. He wasn't criticizing religion, he was making the point that many wars are fought over it, as well as other things he mentioned.
George Carlin said it best: “Jesus, Gandhi, Lincoln, John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, John Lennon, they all said, ‘Try to live together peacefully.’ BAM! Right in the f***ing head. Apparently we're not ready for that.”
"A lot of people would get upset"..., yeah, but this is his most popular song. A lot of people understood what he was saying. Hey, you picked up that it's him saying "imagine this". Don't give up all your possessions, just imagine what it would be like if you did, if everyone thought that way.
You're learning, Mayoman. You got it. It is about peace, harmony, unity. Important theme back then and even more now. Many of us live free of many of those things. We are humans who don't need more labels.

Yoko Ono co wrote this song and was John Lennon partner this video was recorded here in England he moved to America and was shot dead in front of Yoko Ono in NY 1980. This video was 1971
You can have a world in peace and unity, but it is as you see in the video, it is a dark room that must open windows for the light to enter, people must open their minds to a world in peace, to a just world, and not think in the discourse that the human being can only live in war. And Lennon was assassinated when he was calling for the end of a war, but his dream continues. Greetings..
The long walk symbolizes our journey through life. The room piano and yoko's dress are all white symbolizing purity. The room is dark when they enter and Yoko his wife lets in the light to dispel the darkness. This is a false freedom that is misleading that comes from a different religion and not the Catholic faith
If I'm remembering correctly this song came from a conversation they had about what happens after you die. Everything that makes you, you is gone because it's unneeded. Something to that effect.
I remember exactly where I was when John Lennon, John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King were murdered. What i am saying is, when John Lennon was murdered it was a moment of historic relevance.
when lennon mentioned "no religion" he was talking about organized and "state" religions that force conformity to a certain belief system. he wan't talking about "spirituality." the reality is ALL individuals have MUCH MORE in common that our leadership would have us believe. our differences are superficial. but our commonalities are instrinsic human nature. our differences are intensified and exploited by our so-called ruling elite who want us in a constant state of suspicion, hate and conflict so THEY stay in power. they pit us against each other so we can't, or won't UNITE against them. as soon as most blind people figure this out and stop playing this game of "divide-and-conquer" we can HAVE the world that lennon, and so many others, "imagine."
When I heard Howard Cosell announce that John was shot dead on Monday Night Football. I remember sitting there numb. I always enjoyed this song but we can only imagine it happening. For me ‘Everyday People’ by Sly and the Family Stone is something we can achieve.

Tittenhurst Park. Was John Lennon s house/estate in Ascot. It was Ringo's house then he sold it to John. He built a recording studio in there and recorded the whole Imagine album
I think John sold it Ringo when he moved to New York. And Ringo sold it to a Gulf state sheikh who has spent millions and millions on re-developing it.
Interesting that you say that. Did you see the movie "Yesterday"? The ending was a twist, with John still being alive, living a lonely, but peaceful life.
