Polo, I was walking through Georgetown in Washington DC. I was 19 at the time. As I approached a record store I heard the piano intro. I stopped in my tracks, then walked into the store as the song roared from the speakers. Within a minute the store was jam packed as everyone was mesmerized. The song ended and there was dead silence as we all processed what we all just heard. The store sold every copy of the LP. I will never forget that day and the impact it had on hundreds of strangers and a unique shared experience that only a member of the Beatles could create.

Im italian and my mother used to play this music when I was young. She was an hippy 'flower child', 'figlia dei fiori' in italian. I remember the first time I heard 'Imagine' by John Lennon, I was captivated. I was really young, but I remember it. The sweet melody and meaningful lyrics of 'Imagine' have the power to touch the deepest chords of the heart. It's extraordinary how his art can connect with emotions and convey such a universal message of peace and hope. Every note feels like a journey through the ages, carrying with it an eternal call to understanding and unity. John Lennon has left an indelible mark on the history of music and the collective consciousness, inspiring generations to seek a better world. His musical legacy is a shining beacon that continues to guide those in search of beauty and meaning in the vastness of music.

This is, without a doubt, the most iconic symbol of peace. His son finally performed it live after stating it would take the end of the world for him to do his father’s song. He cited the war in Ukraine as his reason to do the song. IMHO, his other Iconic song was Give Peace a Chance, done during a “bed in” during the Vietnam war. It was his idea of a sit in, but in a manner that allowed for an inclusive group of people to join him in his room. Thank you for this wonderful expression of your view on Imagine. It was very well said.

ICONIC peace track. John was not only an incredibly talented musician, singer/songwriter, but also a true visionary. He sang about peace & love, which sounds so corny today in our self-indulgent, capitalist world, but he was so sincere. He left the #1 band *in the history of music* (at the time), to try and live a simpler life and make music that suited him, not the record companies. Some of the music was a little out there, but his loyal fans followed him. I remember when he was shot & killed. I was in 10th grade. I cried and cried. It was such an *assault* on humanity. Such a tragedy.

This is from the Imagine album. Also, his last album Double Fantasy was released the month before he was murdered. Both albums have great songs on it. It is said that Double Fantasy is one of the most valuable albums out there. I treasure both albums. John wrote, produced and sang many songs about peace. You might want to also give a listen to Starting Over. Thanks for a great reaction. 👏👏💔

maybe it's just me but thinking back to the late 60's early 70's and the idealistic goals we though we could achieve and looking around today I see very little of that promise being realized. It just makes me sad that I couldn't leave this world a much better place than the one I grew up in. Seems like we're running in place sometimes.

Jane H commenting ….. I have always been a fan of John Lennon, & this, for me, was one of the best songs he wrote & sang. First met up with him as a member of The Beatles, who took the world by storm. Initially, I liked Paul McCartney’s looks, songs & voice, when I was a teenager, but when The Beatles split up, it was this song of John Lennon’s that drew me to him. He was a very cool guy, seen here with his second wife, Yoko Ono. I was so shocked when I heard he had been shot & killed, not having recovered from Elvis Presley’s death just 3 years earlier.

I realise I take for granted the amazing songwriters and musicians that I grew up with and continue to listen to. I’m 70. And somehow I think my generation had the largest and most innovative span of popular musical talent from Elvis, through to the Beachboys, The Beatles , The Rolling Stones , Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel , the Eagles , The Beachboys, Supertramp, The Carpenters, Eagles, Doobies, James Taylor, Elton John ,The Who, The. Stones , Simon and Garfunkel and on and on and on.
I’m fully cognoscente of the great good fortune to have been born in time for great musical talents.

In the age of custom recommendations by each streaming platform, it's very easy for younger generations to never have heard of a thing.
I've been noticing that after miving to a different country I simply don't get nearly the same new content recommendation than my colleagues at work because even that is affected by stuff your friends send you =)

One of the most enduring pieces of music from Lennon. He and his wife, Yoko Ono (the woman in the video) were most controversial in their time, but his disenchantment with the divisiveness of the world led to jewels like this one.

This song was so far before it's time. I first heard it at church from our choir director. I was attracted to the melody and the voice. So unique and unusually dreamy. When I listened to the words, I was totally in love with this song and felt it should be a world wide hit song. If the lyrics of this song came true, I'd never want to pass away.

Man, of all the "first time hearing" people on UA-cam, you are the most thoughtful and do the best presentations. So many others laugh and talk over the song, and they can't possibly be really listening enough to deliver meaningful commentary. I know, I know, for a lot of them it's all about "entertainment", I guess. But I'm not entertained when I keep feeling irritated and wanting to say, "Close your face hole and listen." ... Anyway, IMO, you're the best presenter... and I just subscribed. Thank you.
