My father’s favorite song. RIP 🕊️
I often find stones with “Imagine” written on them
and I put them on his gravesite every couple of years
because they disappear.
One of my favorite songs. A song of peace for a world full of fear and hate. Always contemporary. Always relevant. If you like stuff like this check out Coven - One Tin Soldier.
Now do a perfect circle cover of imagine
Good stuff Polo. I was 16 when he died and it gutted me. The opposite of the simplicity of this song is the very upbeat song he does called ‘Whatever Gets You Through The Night.’ I have a feeling you’ll love it too. Peace ☮️
Never heard John Lennon/ Imagine????
After John Lennon was murdered, all radio stations simultaneously played this song in tribute to Lennon. He was and remains an Icon.
Yoko had it played on his birthday, too.
And this is why we all cried when he died.
It became a prayer for many of us who had hoped the 60s was the start of something beautiful- peace and brotherhood. We somehow dropped the ball.
No, we started the ball rolling. All that needs to go will come up for a while, but the seeds were planted.
Drugs was the fallacy...it was the downfall
A cry for a secular society, needed today more than ever.
This song completely changed the way I thought about everything. Truly changed my life. I'm 62 years old and am still trying to live my life by the simple tenants John sang about.
Polo, I was walking through Georgetown in Washington DC. I was 19 at the time. As I approached a record store I heard the piano intro. I stopped in my tracks, then walked into the store as the song roared from the speakers. Within a minute the store was jam packed as everyone was mesmerized. The song ended and there was dead silence as we all processed what we all just heard. The store sold every copy of the LP. I will never forget that day and the impact it had on hundreds of strangers and a unique shared experience that only a member of the Beatles could create.
This is probably one of the most beautiful songs ever created. It means so much to so many people. The world would be a better place if everyone really listened to this song.
The hymn of my generation. I still hold this in my heart.
If this was the only thing John did, his life would have been fulfilled. Incredible message and delivery.
I can’t believe this is the first time you’ve heard this. John Lennon is one of the best song writers in history! The greatest Beatle as well! He was taken way to soon.
My sentiments exactly! ❤☮️
Went to NYC this summer. My 1st full day I went to the Dakota & Strawberry Fields across the street
I was thinking the same thing- it's so iconic!!
Where did he go?
I can easily believe he hadn't heard it. He's 40 years younger than Lennon and had a chaotic childhood in addition to coming from a different culture and as a young adult his interest in music was focused elsewhere. Way too many whitey boomers seem to assume that the last several decades were the same for everyone.
This isn’t just a great song, it’s an important song.
The modern Communist National Anthem.
It certainly is. It needs to be getting airplay on the radio again, to reach more people! Especially now.
@@user-fe7mg5ot9z I love this!
Exactly.
Amazing. When John Lennon was murdered this world lost a beautiful soul. RIParadise 💜
We just passed the 43rd anniversary of his murder. I can't believe how quickly that has gone by.
It still hurts terribly to this day.
There are videos on youtube of the late, great Howard Cosell announcing the shocking death of John Lennon during the Monday Night Football broadcast of a game between the Patriots and the Dolphins. If you've never seen that video, you should. It is very emotional and Howard Cosell handled the situation professionally and emotionally.
@@bostonwhofanI remember that. So sad.
@@glass2467 Yes, it does. It tears at one's heart.❤️
Music still is the greatest communicator of peace, love and harmony. ❤✌
on the same album he wrote How Do You Sleep. What did that communicate? Hate, bitterness, envy.
Music and food, the two greatest human connectors.
So very true. Thanks.
This song always makes me tear up, because it's such a beautiful vision, and so utterly impossible because humans are what they are.
Yes.
Sadly…😢
Not impossible. Humans are more than they remember.
This song was used at the end of the movie "The Killing Fields" ...was one of only 2 times I ever saw my Father cry openly
ua-cam.com/video/-Ua8O3jvHDk/v-deo.htmlsi=WiMyUyVRjTfU9iJ9
_WOW!_ What an insult. It's the communist manifesto - it was communism that bought about all the murder and misery in Cambodia that _The Killing Fields_ is all about.
I remember this too. That scene in the film kills me every time.
Greatest song ever written! The message it delivers literally is the answer to the vast majority of the issues we as humanity face all over this world we share!!!
Yea ain't it great no God, no hell, only this life then you become worm food. Lennon even said all he did was put the communist manifesto to a lullaby type song. When he died I thought 1 less commie, that's a good thing. According to your post communism is the answer for the world's ill's. Ask somebody in China how they like communist rule.
Lennon's "Working Class Hero" is a must.
The cover by Green day was very good.
beat me to it.
I was just going to say the same. Working Class Hero .
I literally shed a tear that I was able to witness you watching this incredible song for the first time. It's almost inconceivable to me that you haven't heard this as it's one of the most famous, most played songs across the entire world. But there it is, and here we are.
Im italian and my mother used to play this music when I was young. She was an hippy 'flower child', 'figlia dei fiori' in italian. I remember the first time I heard 'Imagine' by John Lennon, I was captivated. I was really young, but I remember it. The sweet melody and meaningful lyrics of 'Imagine' have the power to touch the deepest chords of the heart. It's extraordinary how his art can connect with emotions and convey such a universal message of peace and hope. Every note feels like a journey through the ages, carrying with it an eternal call to understanding and unity. John Lennon has left an indelible mark on the history of music and the collective consciousness, inspiring generations to seek a better world. His musical legacy is a shining beacon that continues to guide those in search of beauty and meaning in the vastness of music.
Beautiful description
As a bookend to this song, listen to John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance". Great anthem of a generation.
I thought everyone knew this song. One of the biggest classics of all time
Can’t believe you never heard this song. It’s one of the most played songs. It’s an iconic song and one of the most beautiful songs ever written. John Lennon is a great song writer
Thanks for the reaction, Polo! I have a feelin' YOU are a DREAMER, TOO! ❤❤❤
John is a legend. His song writing was epic
I remember Dec 8, 1980 - hearing his murder announced on the radio - I was in my kitchen, in complete disbelief. I was 8 years old when I first heard the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show - my life changed that day and it changed again on Dec 8, 1980.
You didn’t miss out on it. Old records never die. A great song is still great in any era. Greatness doesn’t go out of style. Keep up the good work.
This is an amazing song and I’m shocked that you’ve never heard this one. Surely once it starts you will remember some little detail?! It’s a classic, and the words are extremely heartfelt. Looking forward to your reaction.
The late John Winston Lennon . 9/10/40-8/12/80.
Founder of the greatest group in modern music, The Beatles. Enough said
One of the most beautiful & meaningful songs ever made! dbl ♥
'Mother' , 'God' and 'Working Class Hero' are my favourite songs from John Lennon
I also like Borrowed Time.
And Watching the Wheels, and Instant Karma!
As a colossal Beatles fan I have no idea why anyone would willingly listen to these John Lennon solo songs. They're absolutely miserable.
Merry x-mas byJohn Lennon
As soon as you're
born they make you feel small.
By giving you no time instead of it all.
My favorite Lennon track is Beautiful Boy. It reminds me of my eldest grandson. I used to sing this to him as a baby.
Yeah me too. I especially love that steel drum sound. He found peace. And then.....
Breaks my heart to listen to that one. Just sob every time.
I was at a Christmas service when this song was played.
ICONIC peace track. John was not only an incredibly talented musician, singer/songwriter, but also a true visionary. He sang about peace & love, which sounds so corny today in our self-indulgent, capitalist world, but he was so sincere. He left the #1 band *in the history of music* (at the time), to try and live a simpler life and make music that suited him, not the record companies. Some of the music was a little out there, but his loyal fans followed him. I remember when he was shot & killed. I was in 10th grade. I cried and cried. It was such an *assault* on humanity. Such a tragedy.
It’s very very hard for someone to listen to something and have the same experience of people who lived the song. There are memories attached to some songs that pop up while listening to it. Some songs actually have the ability to take you back in time…, It’s magical …
you didn't live this, you were just alive when it came out
Well said. Music has the ability to transport you back in time. It can heal, uplift and give you so much joy.
I'm crying again. It's like he was killed yesterday. I'll never get over it. I cried for days when he was murdered. 😢 RIP JOHN🕊🙏✌🌻🌻
This song has been an inspiration for my life from the first time I heard it a long time ago. Not only is it beautiful musically, the lyrics are truly inspirational.
This is, without a doubt, the most iconic symbol of peace. His son finally performed it live after stating it would take the end of the world for him to do his father’s song. He cited the war in Ukraine as his reason to do the song. IMHO, his other Iconic song was Give Peace a Chance, done during a “bed in” during the Vietnam war. It was his idea of a sit in, but in a manner that allowed for an inclusive group of people to join him in his room. Thank you for this wonderful expression of your view on Imagine. It was very well said.
John’s voice will forever bring me to tears. ❤❤❤
This is from the Imagine album. Also, his last album Double Fantasy was released the month before he was murdered. Both albums have great songs on it. It is said that Double Fantasy is one of the most valuable albums out there. I treasure both albums. John wrote, produced and sang many songs about peace. You might want to also give a listen to Starting Over. Thanks for a great reaction. 👏👏💔
There was a postumous album, put together by Yoko, titled "Milk and Honey." The song "Grow Old With Me," a riff on Robert Browning, and a wish for his relationship with Yoko, was on that album.
This guy is…. A Legend
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one" were words that gave me hope decades ago, and which I still trust today.
maybe it's just me but thinking back to the late 60's early 70's and the idealistic goals we though we could achieve and looking around today I see very little of that promise being realized. It just makes me sad that I couldn't leave this world a much better place than the one I grew up in. Seems like we're running in place sometimes.
Yes, we were idealists, picketing for peace and love. Flower children just wanting to imagine a safer, better world. You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one. ✌️
Shout out to the dreamers; the artists of and to the world.
This is one of the all time most famous peace song on earth!
It's hard to believe that this song was released 53 years ago!! It is so current and still so meaningful!
One of the most enduring pieces of music from Lennon. He and his wife, Yoko Ono (the woman in the video) were most controversial in their time, but his disenchantment with the divisiveness of the world led to jewels like this one.
Man, hard to think about someone not having heard this song. It is timeless, and the lyrics are universal. Haven't heard it for many years. Thanks for playing!
Universal if your a socialist lmao you will have nothing eat bugs and love it
Not a socialist, and that is funny as hell. Well struck:)@@seanhecht1840
Ahhhhhh. John and the Beatles. Life made whole again.
I'm a dreamer, and i know i am not the only one !
This is as beautiful today as it was back then.
Unfortunately the message still hasn't been heeded .
Love to see you experience this for the first time , it's purely something else !
Peace n love from Australia 😎✌
John also wrote or cowrote many of the Beatles songs and sang lead on about half of them. He's more than a legend.
This is one perfect song. Thanks for reacting.
He was one of the Beatles, four of the most famous people of any time on this planet. And the greatest band of all time. They changed music, fashion and culture. Anything you check out from them is pretty awesome. My favorite solo Lennon track is #9 Dream. Hope you react to it some day.
Imagine someone walking up and looking at this person and taking his life😢
❤❤❤ my favorite from Lennon 😊 So This is Christmas is a beautiful song from him .
I grew up with the Beatles.... Imagine was around my senior year of high school, so much going on, Viet Nam, etc. He was encouraging folks to see beyond......to imagine a better way of getting along. Another song (Beatle era) Across the Universe.... lyrics there are brilliant as well. Thanks for taking a listen, Lennon cannot be forgotten, he contributed so much........I appreciate your coverage of this, and it is obvious you LOVE music and what you are doing. Keep it up!
This icon has a huge collection to dive into. He was such a beautiful human being and peaceful man.
Peaceful LMAO....he was a commie socialist FFS ..ya we all now how awesome Chyna is and Venezuela...and the rest
This is one of the Greatest Songs ever written...by ex Beatle John Lennon.. the others were written by either John Lennon and or Paul McCartney or George Harrison as members of The Beatles......the Greatest Rock Group in History
I've heard this song thousands of times. It's played constantly all over the world. It's impossible not to have heard it.
I still get chills when I hear this song! Great choice!
The words of this song are so powerful and have been relevant throughout time. The simplicity of the song is so completely profound in its accuracy of how completely simple it would be too late to rest the wars, The division, and overall noise that stops us from living harmoniously together. John, you had foresight and wisdom beyond your time. I hope I live to see your dream and mine come to fruition.
This song was so far before it's time. I first heard it at church from our choir director. I was attracted to the melody and the voice. So unique and unusually dreamy. When I listened to the words, I was totally in love with this song and felt it should be a world wide hit song. If the lyrics of this song came true, I'd never want to pass away.
Mind games is worth a listen.
I graduated from High School in the Bible Belt and our class picked this song to play while we came into the auditorium and when we left! I’m sure LOTS of other graduates did the same. ❤ is all you need. ❤❤❤
Class of 1981 ❤
Genius songwriter John Lennon(R.I.P😢) ,especially with Paul McCartney (Beatles)Universal lyrics, another level. Always loved him.The world continues to need this message..but 'IMAGINE' if it didn't.True &Timeless.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks Polo.
Check out Lennon's Happy Christmas (War is Over) 1971 video
Nothing to kill or die for. Imagine that.
I realise I take for granted the amazing songwriters and musicians that I grew up with and continue to listen to. I’m 70. And somehow I think my generation had the largest and most innovative span of popular musical talent from Elvis, through to the Beachboys, The Beatles , The Rolling Stones , Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel , the Eagles , The Beachboys, Supertramp, The Carpenters, Eagles, Doobies, James Taylor, Elton John ,The Who, The. Stones , Simon and Garfunkel and on and on and on.
I’m fully cognoscente of the great good fortune to have been born in time for great musical talents.
Imagine is a world peace standard for decades. All Across the Universe is another gorgeous one by John. My favorite. ❤
Also- A Day in the Life- I think the Beatles’ greatest song. Mostly John- a little Paul in the middle. It’s mindblowing to this day.
Danced with my mother at my wedding to this. Her favorite song. And one of my favorites to play on the piano. There will however come a day where it will hurt too much to hear or play....but till then....I'm loving it!!
I love the Beatles. John Lennon was such a a great talent. It still breaks my heart and brings me tears for losing him in such a horrific way. RIP ❤
Imagine all the people living life in peace…. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ that line.
One of my very favorites! Thank you! You would enjoy "So This is Christmas" by him
Brings tears to my eyes. War is over. 😢
Beautiful reaction Polo ❤
I am 68 years old , this has always been my favorite song... he once was an original Beatle ... John Paul George Ringo.... love love love John ... he was murdered, young... gone but not forgotten
Only 79K viewers!!! Incredible. This is an iconic song. The lyrics are still relevant all these decades later. The FBI had an ongoing investigation on John Lennon because of his activism for Peace.
This song was so misunderstood by the general public when it came out. The whole thing was about what if all the things that divide us didn't exist, how would we live and what would society be like if none of those things where there.
Right on shadow!
I think you are the one misunderstanding. He was a disgusting anti-God communist.
✌️
Correct.
Yes, but I also read the song as a condemnation of the topics he sings of.
More John Lennon! "Watching the Wheels," "Woman", "Jealous guy"--and much songs with the Beatles "Your Bird Can Sing"
Jealous Guy is such a phenomenal tune. So many of his solo songs are great. It still hurts to think how much more music he could have given to the World had he not been murdered.
The message is what makes this song impactful.
❤ This could be my very favorite song. ❤ I loved watching you hear it the first time. Another song that speaks to your soul and helps to heal your heart.❤ Much Love Polo ❤
You've never heard this?! It's was the #1 song in many countryside for over 30 years. Best song ever written! Gotta do "Working Class Hero," "Woman," "Watching the Wheels," & "Beautiful Boy." Not to mention all hus work with tge Beatles. "In My Life" is a great one.
Oh yes, Watching the wheels, and Woman! Great choices
Polo, I love your reaction in listening to Imagine for the first time. Many say that this is their favorite song of all time.
Out of the many, many songs to choose from, I would love to see your reaction to A Day in the Life by the Beatles. Polo, get into the greatest band ever, the Beatles!! They have so much to offer.
In this world at this time we need to play this song on a big speaker above the world and play this song
Grew up with the Beatles. A young black teenager living in Texas, and my friends and family could not
believe me and my best friend - we were crazzzy about the Beatles! Paul was my favorite, and at 73 yrs
old, I still love them. John’s passing was devastating to me as young woman with my own family at the
time of his death. My children to this day listen to all genres of music, and they thank me for that. I ,
still play their music….great song writers!
You will love this.. There is a version of this song also with Maynard in A Perfect Circle... The original video version is an amazing trip ...
This is such an amazing, classic song. It is definitely John Lennon's #1 signature song. You should check-out "Jealous Guy," "Working Class Hero," "Beautiful Boy" (about his newborn 2nd son Sean), "Starting Over," "#9 Dream" and "Whatever Gets You Through The Night" (duet with Elton John). Guaranteed you will love each of these.
He owned a farm about two hr. drive from where I live in upstate NY. That song became our national anthem back in the day. Happy Holidays.
I feel that 'Imagine' by John Lennon is seen by many as the worldwide anthem for peace.
Hello again. Just got finished watching your John Lennon “IMAGINE “. Beautiful and sad, was not aware you had never heard this song. Anyway, FYI , just in case you didn’t know, he was with the BEATLES, they split and 😢😢😢and that was his wife in the video. He was from the UK, and moved to the U.S., to live with his family.
My clock radio woke me the morning after he was killed. The first thing i heard was the DJ announcing his death. Then he played this song and I cried my eyes out. I still think of that awful morning every time I hear it. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Hi Mr. Polo, Mr. John is saying if there were no Countries and no Religion there would be no wars and
we could live as one.. And I think he is Right.. ♠Mr.G..
My father would not take me the Beatles last concert in San Francisco because he didn’t “want to be in traffic”…..Fell in love with George Harrison’s songs “ on my sweet lord” is the song I listen just as in get seated on the planes. Try that one Solo☮️
@@TELE_-GRAM-Mrpoloreacts27
Hello, is this how it works?
I’ll figure it out😎Thx
If u haven't yet, u must do: Beautiful Boy, Woman, basically anything of John's Double Fantasy album. Regarding Neil Young, may I suggest, Man needs a maid, my fav of his, the emotion in his voice on that song cuts right through
This song speaks to who he was.❤
And why he (John Lennon) was here.
More people should listen to this song....uninterrupted
Oh come on you must have heard this ! You’d love John Lennon’s solo work after the Beatles broke up I bet . Mother or working class hero or almost anything from his first solo album the plastic Ono band .
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. You like Maynard, a perfect circle covered this tune.
Man, of all the "first time hearing" people on UA-cam, you are the most thoughtful and do the best presentations. So many others laugh and talk over the song, and they can't possibly be really listening enough to deliver meaningful commentary. I know, I know, for a lot of them it's all about "entertainment", I guess. But I'm not entertained when I keep feeling irritated and wanting to say, "Close your face hole and listen." ... Anyway, IMO, you're the best presenter... and I just subscribed. Thank you.
This is a worldwide classic. My 10 year old grandson in Mexico accompanied his school choir on the piano when they sang Imagine. Gracias!
Do you realize he was in The Beatles? Did you know he was murdered when he was still young? One of the most noteworthy musicians of the 20th century. Also, the woman in the video is his wife Yoko who was widely criticized as the reason for the breakup of The Beatles.
Widely criticized, but unfairly.
Polo…have you not checked out the Beatles? If not I can’t wait until you open that door.
I was maybe twelve the first time I heard it.
I didn't have a clue how powerful the lyric was... It just spoke to my heart.❤
I've since based my life's purpose in those words. I'm 52.
Oh man, John Lennon. He is for shure one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His solo work and what he created with the Beatles was so groundbreaking for the time and a huge influence for generations. Absolutely timeless songs and lyrics. This song could be released today and would still have the same impact. Brilliant stuff!
