George Harrison is fantastic
Patti Boyd Harrison,Maureen Starr,Yoko Ono,Linda McCartney
This was written for the first lady in the video, George's wife Pattie. She went on to marry George's friend Eric Claton who also wrote many songs about her. George and Eric stay friends after that. I think Pattie had about 7 songs written for or about her.
This and HERE COMES THE SUN, finally made John and Paul admit that George's songs were on the same par as theirs, if not better on this album.
Frank Sinatra said this was 'the greatest love song of the last 50 years' which, at the time he said it, meant most of pop music history. Sinatra sang the song himself for many years. As, usual, your reaction is thoughtful and understanding of the scope of the Beatles and this wonderful George Harrison song.
He actually said it was the " greatest love song written by Lennon-McCartney" I SAW it on the TV show Sinatra was on, and I CRINGED and said to my mother, "Oh boy, I HOPE GEORGE didn't hear this" George Harrison wrote the song, NOT John and Paul.
@@patticrichton1135 I heard him say it live at Canary Wharf.
it is a beautiful song. Written by George Harrison. Thoughtful reaction . Glad you liked it.
🎼Harrison could write. He proved it right here with this song.🎼❤️
Great song! "Something" is on the Beatles 1969 album "Abbey Road". It was written by George Harrison. George also wrote the song "Here Comes The Sun" on the same Abbey Road album.
The first young lady in the video had a hit recording named for her pet name, given by Eric Clapton, “Layla”. It’s a true love story and the love triangle with George Harrison’s wife is an epic soap opera of love and heartbreak.
Clapton also wrote Wonderful Tonight, about Boyd.
You’re right about the bass line and guitar solo. Thanks for noticing. Been saying how great it was for half a century
This has been my current practice jam for guitar. This solo is most likely the best ever written. Written for Patti Boyd (George's wife), it is added to a long list of songs written about her. She went on to marry Eric Clapton next so here is a partial list of songs about this woman. I Need You/If I needed Somone/For You Blue/Something/-----Wonderful tonight/Layla/ Bell Bottom Blues....... making her the most written about muse in history. And most successful.
"Here, There and Everywhere" can still give me chills 57 years after first hearing it. It's a love song right there at the pinnacle with the all-time greatest love songs.
I think you will be blown away with 'Michelle' Beautiful love song...
This song and "Here Comes The Sun" were George's two contributions to their "Abbey Road" Lp released in Sept. 1969. By this point he shows that he was now equals to John and Paul's songwriting skills.
I feel they are the best two songs on the album and many would agree with me. Think about this for a moment, the most streamed Beatles song on Spotify isn't a John or Paul song but George's "Here Comes The Sun" with over 800 million plays currently abd probably my all time favorite Beatles song and I've been listening to them since 1964 and have played all of their songs probably thousands of times each and that one by George is my favorite and as you're finding out there are a lot of incredible songs by these guys.
In 1970 the legendary Frank Sinatra declared that George's "Something" was the most beautiful love song written in the last 50 years. Pretty powerful stuff when Sinatra says that and he didn't like The Beatles but he did warm to them over the years. Years later he actually had George come into the studio and record some songs with him and they formed a friendship which is really cool.
He hated John Lennon because he said Lennon had a big mouth and said if ever ran across him in public he would beat the shit out of him. John used to like taking shots at Sinatra and if you let John know you didn't like it well then John was gonna keep doing it to piss you off even more. That was John Lennon.
Hilarious.
Peace ❤
Oh yes, the Beatles could WRITE a love song! Greatest rock band of all time! Thanks for your reaction.
The bass is like a song all on its own.
As someone else mentioned, George Harrison wrote this about model Pattie Boyd, who was his wife at the time. She later left him for his good friend Eric Clapton. Eric also wrote a beautiful love song about her. It’s called Wonderful Tonight, and it’s similar to this in that he’s sharing his thoughts about her in a way that feels very simple and intimate. If you’re unfamiliar with it you should react to it. I think you would like it.
BTW, I just checked to make sure Wonderful Tonight was about Pattie Boyd and apparently there were at least ten songs inspired by her, including Clapton’s song Layla.
Erics first song he wrote for Pattie was Layla, whilst she was still married to George. It was based on a book given to both of them called Layla and Majnun. He was in love with someone he couldn't have and sort of unrequited love. After Pattie married E, one night she was getting ready for a party and he wrote the song while waiting for her sitting on the sofa.
My favorite song (along with Here, There, and Everywhere.) Just so well done. Never gets old. 🤌🏽
How to say as a beetle fan this is definitely one of my favourite Beatle songs it's such a brilliant song rest in peace god bless you George Harrison
*Beatles*
I enjoyed this video and your reaction. My 3 favorite love songs from the Beatles are--"All my Lovin", "Michelle" and "And I love her". I think you would love them all!! 😊
This is a great song, and you did an excellent reaction. Yes, it is well-written.
What most people miss is that the Beatles are not seen together in this video. The background is that they agreed to shoot film for a promotional video, but they couldn't stand to be with each other at that point. So the film clips were all shot separately. That's how the story goes, anyway.
Sad,but, probably, true. At this point, it had been 8 years since they played 7 hours a night, without a break, for 5 months in Hamburg in 1960 and it had taken its toll....
@@AnnE-mn8ny George wondered What Is My Life at that point so Something tells me you are right AnnE :)
This Harrison composition might well be the greatest love song ever written. But of course there are other outstanding ones in their catalogue - possibly just not quite to this level. You've already listened to another excellent love song, "In My Life". I'd also recommend "Michelle" and "Here, There, and Everywhere". You could also listen to a love song for John's mother, possibly the saddest love song ever, "Julia".
In My Life is my all-time favorite Beatles song. Makes me tear up everytime. 💜
Written by George, based on his wife Patty, who he had met on the set of "A Hard Day's Night" (you see young George with her on the train with s few other girls).
A few months after this song was released, George's good buddy Eric Clapton releases a song he wrote about Patty, "Layla".
Beatles love songs are plentiful, both in quantity & greatness. Something is probably the best. Here, There, and Everywhere & I Will are two of my favorites. If I Fell is one of my favorites from their very early days. Killer harmonies!!!
this was composed when finished a 28 yr old George. let that sink in. he had the basics of this song at 25. you can see the beginnings of this song on the Disney+ docu-series about them. this is credited beatles song but its really a George song with some help from Clapton and John. its just wild about the talent of the 4 of them all before the age of 30.
26 when he recorded it. Born Feb 1943. Clapton had nothing to do with it. Geez some people make up crap.
@@gettinhungrig8806 the Beatles knew who clapton was when making Get Back. in fact there is footage of George telling Paul that maybe he should get Clapton if that's the way he thinks it should sound. its what led to George leaving the band for about a week during the recording of Get Back. please go watch the Disney+ docu-series.
The line
"I don't want to leave her now..." says it all! That's the "something" in the song. Brings back lotza memories for me! Thanks Michael. Two of my most fav Beatles songs: "Norwegian Wood" &
"A day in the life," although it's rather dark...I just like the tune.
Great job. As hard as it is to pick three top Beatles love songs for me. Here they are.
This Boy
And I Love Her and
Here, There and Everywhere.
The whole mix of the song is perfect. The lyrics, the bass, the guitar sole, the simple strumming of the rhythm guitar and Ringo's drum rolls. Lastly, George's understated vocals. A beautiful love song!! 😁😁🇬🇧
Beatles love songs to check out:
All my loving ❤️
And I love her ❤️
"And I Love Her" has been released as a cover by Kurt Cobain. It's a recoding that among many others was found after his tragic death. I like the cover version too. 🙏
Paul's sheepdog is Martha who he wrote a love song to. Check it out. "Martha My Dear".
Top 3: Here, There and Everwhere; In My Life; and Something
Two of the greatest love songs ever written. This and “Wonderful Tonight”. Something written by George Harrison and Wonderful Tonight written by Eric Clapton. Both songs for the same woman, Patty Boyd who you said was beautiful in the beginning!
Great song, great album.
Yet another wonderful song by The Beatles. You were spot on as well with your reaction Michael.
This is George personified.❤
Your mom and dad raised a real gentleman 😊
Beautiful beautiful song, and one of my two favorite songs by the Beatles. When you need a pickup at the end of a dreary winter, check out Here Comes the Sun, my other favorite. 😊
Pauls bass is the icing on the perfectly baked cake.
One of George Harrison's best. The Beatles are sometimes dismissed as being just a 'Yeah Yeah' band but each were talented musicians and their music is extraordinary. Glad you enjoyed a favorite from my coming-of-age years....
Great song, Mayoman. Thank you.
Preciosa canción.
Fantastic rabbit hole George has a beautiful voice 😊
Not to mention one of, if not the best, bass line Paul ever wrote.
Great reaction! A couple of other beautiful Beatles love songs is "And I Love Her" and "If I Fell". Those are earlier songs than "Something" but just as sweet.
This isba George song. He became such a good songwriter in his own right. What a great guitarist as well. He came up with so many cool rifs.
I would say that my favourite Beatles love songs are ‘In My Life’, ‘All My Loving’ and ‘This Boy’. Great reaction to ‘Something’.
Gotta do Layla by Derek & the Dominos next, since George wrote this for his wife Patty Boyd, and then Eric Clapton (George's best friend) fell in love with her and wrote Layla.
An amazing fact about the Beatles..when they finished their last studio recordings in 1969 and were done the oldest 2 Beatles Ringo and John were only 29 years old and George, who wrote this masterpiece SOMETHING was only 26. Crazy, right?
This is the classic music of 20th century..
4:38 hahahaha love that he always looks like that
George wrote an absolutely love song!
Haven't read all comments yet but, here's something I heard about "Something". As you surely know my favorite Beatle (George) wrote this. Old Blue Eyes himself said it was the most beautiful love song he had ever heard.
I am with you dude...we want the beauty of innocence, genuine, and faithfulness! Body Count girls are the biggest turn off of all! 🤷🏻♂️
Not a love song but my personal favorite is "Let It Be." The group was on the verge of their breakup. Paul was troubled, one night he had a dream in which his deceased mother (Mary) appeared to reassure him that it would be all right, to let it be. This dream inspired the song. The song was released on their last album, after the breakup. (I just learned that Paul sent the song to Aretha Franklin who actually recorded it first.)
Michelle sung by Paul is hauntingly beautiful. Yes, George was very angry. The Beatles had broken up when the video was recorded and all couples were in their own homes. The video was spliced together. George and Paul were the most depressed due to the news John gave to leave the Beatles. Literally they did not shower or get out of bed. Pattie and George were living together and were both unhappy, George had cheated on Pattie with Ringo's wife Maureen, soon after George found out of Patties affair with Eric Clapton and Clapton's admission to George that he was in love with her. Thank you for the compliment about Pattie, she was very shy as was George. If didn't know they met on the set of A Hard Days Night.
My Sweet George ♥️🎸♥️🎸♥️🎸
Those were their partners/wives at the time...
The Beatles have Lots of great love songs. My top 3 today... "Here, There and Everywhere", "And I Love Her" and "In My Life".
"Something" would definitely make my list - but you already listened to it.
Some others to consider: "All My Loving", "If I Fell", Things We Said Today", "Michelle", "It's Only Love", "I've Just Seen A Face", "For No One", "Julia", "I Will", "Don't Let Me Down".
If I Fell!! Beautiful song, This Boy too I think
The greatest love song that never say's " I love you".
You forgot to mention their long hairs, bro. That's not exaggerated, I agree, thank you man 👍👍👍
although this is off topic, I got to ask-what's up with the Hellman's jar behind the couch??!! It's like in every video.
Patty Boyd.
Something, Layla and wonderful tonight were written about her
There innocence, absolutely, not having an onlyfans account and 200 lovers, so true
The women in the video, for those who don't know, are the women of the four Beatles at the time🎩
George's wife would go on to have an affair-and later marry-his friend Eric Clapton 🎩
They were all married when this video was made in late 1969... so they were their wives.
My wife was both, shy, sweet, etc... but she also would dance on tables sometimes. 😂
Hi. I'm from Lexington, Kentucky, originally Detroit, MI. Love your insight.
Best Beatle loves songs to check out
I Will
Michelle
In My Life
They wrote a LOT of great love songs, you should listen to "AND I LOVE HER," "HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE," "I NEED YOU," "THINGS WE SAID TODAY," "IF I FELL," "EVERY LITTLE THING SHE DOES," "I WILL," "FOR NO ONE." From their solo careers, "MAYBE I'M AMAZED" (the LIVE video from '76 Paul McCartney and WIngs), "WOMAN" (John Lennon), "SOME DAYS" and "CALICO SKIES" (both from McCartney's "Flaming Pie" album from 1997, written when his beloved first wife Linda, was suffering from breast cancer, and ultimately died in 1998. Beautiful songs about his love for Linda (who you see in this video for "Something") as well as his song for her "MAYBE I'M AMAZED."
Always great to hear George singing.. He wrote and sang this... Frank Sinatra described this as the greatest love song ever written.. What praise eh!!
George wrote this song for Pattie his wife. They divorced when she went off with Eric Clapton. Ringo and Maureen got divorced. John and his first wife divorced after John met Yoko. The only one who stayed faithful was Paul. His wife Linda died of cancer. He married twice after that.
Ringo was the only one in this video that didnt have a woman at the time but went on to hook up with sandra brock their still together 50 years later
try Eric Clapton's Layla (derek and the dominos ) after this written about the same women
Imagine being a grade a lyricist and musician but you're still only objectively 3rd best in your group of 4 🤯
My top 3 love songs by the band
In my life
Don't let me down/ Live on the rooftop of Apple studios London
Here, There & Everywhere
You asked for the top 3 Beatle love songs --- well, you're bound to get a lot of different opinions on that one --- you may have already heard their best love song when you reacted to *_Something_* on this video, but I'll give you 3 others that are nice --- *_And I Love Her,_* *_If I Fell,_* and *_Here, There and Everywhere_* --- there are of course many more.
Tomorrow never knows next
Michael. Thanks for the reaction to the song that Frank Sinatra said was the greatest love song ever written. The last Guy: George Harrison was the writer and being a musical genius himself,he had the "misfortune " to be in the same Band as the best Songwriting partnership in musical history with their combined 200+ songs which was John Lennon and Paul McCartney, which meant only a handful of his songs made it onto their Albums.George was NEVER ,I do mean NEVER "pissed" as he was considered the gentlest Soul in the music business. They were all on various drugs at this time, hence their appearance.
Sinatra ALSO said that it was the greatest love song Lennon and McCartney had ever written, OOPS! He didn't know it was a George Harrison composition! I saw this on TV when he said it! I thought, OMG poor George, hope he NEVER sees or hears this!
@@patticrichton1135 Unlikely, George will see or hear that now but Who knows,Patti ?
@@patticrichton1135 Harrison did hear about Sinatra's gaffe and made fun of it when he sang Something Live, referring to Sinatra "alright Jack" in a fun way not disrespectful (check Something by Harrison Live in Japan 1991), all good and fun
Have you reacted to Travelling Wilburys? Supergroup consisting of George Harrison, Beatles, Jeff Lynn from Electric Light Orcestra, Tom Petty (and the Hartbreakers), Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison. The end of the line and Handle with care are two I can recommend
I know Bob Dylan and George Harrison never heard of the rest and no i haven’t checked it out! Are they good?
@@michaelwduffy Yes really great artists that are having fun working together.
@@michaelwduffy - "Handle with Care" and "End of the Line" were their two biggest hits.
The song Poor House is among my favs!!
@@aBeatleFan4ever Heading for the Light is also one of my favourites
George mighta looked pissed because Eric Clapton stole his woman seen in this video. Hence the song "Lyla" George, being cool as he is, remained great friends with Clapton right up to his death.
ITS ONLY LOVE, I WILL. THIS BOY, I NEED YOU, IT GOES ON AND ON THE SONGS U CAN LISTEN TO THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A BEATLES LOVE SONGS ONLY ALBUM. ITS CALLED THE BEATLES LOVE SONGS.
How have you never heard this fking song?!
hi michael, hope you're good. this was written by george harrison for his then wife model patty boyd, the girl in the video with him. she then left him for eric clapton and you'd be pissed if your wife went off with your best mate. it makes the video far less pleasant when you know what she did. eric clapton then wrote layla for her, another great song, but why it was she was able to hurt both these men, i'll never understand. maybe it was because she didn't have much between the ears. still, cool reaction , it is a beautiful song and i really enjoyed listening to it again.
The real truth is... that both of those men (Harrison and Clapton) treated Patti Boyd like crap, cheating on her all the time, and it was their fault that she moved on from them.
@@aBeatleFan4ever i can believe that of clapton as he treated all his women as crap but, having heard george harrisons account of what happened, i don't think he treated her badly. sorry
@@juliewaterfield1804 - George Harrison was a well known hound dog. He believed he could and should sleep with every beautiful woman he met. Patti put up with it for a long time - but eventually had to get out of that marriage. Her next one with Eric was even worse.
@@aBeatleFan4ever hi, i can only go by what i was told but, i have no reason to disbelieve what you say. people always try and make themselves out to be better than they are.
Pattie put up with George's cheating for yrs. None of the Beatles wives ever went on tour. After their well known trip and George changed and ignored Pattie. He went around the home chanting all day and there was no conversation. He was never home and when he was he as practicing in the studio. Eric gave her the attention she lacked. George lost her and by his own admission he wrote, "Isn't it a pity" about Pattie. Pattie did not want to leave George, she broke off with Eric for 4 yrs and tried to stick it out, they were miserable together. George's unhappiness was solely about the Beatles breaking up which they knew when this was recorded. He became a recluse and went into major depression, none of them were bathed in this video. None of them were even speaking when the video was made. FYI, Pattie is happily married to a man she was with many yrs. Does she regret leaving George? When she was asked who was the love of her life out of G or E, she said George.
It was great in 1969 too.
Ah, its easy, "Yesterday" (which is, officially, the best song in rock), "Michelle", "Girl". It is interesting because "Michelle" and "Girl" are from the same album, the first one written by Paul, while the second one by John.
Ha, I see comments and nobody mentions "Yesterday" (it is, actually, a break up song, but it talks about love). I mean, when McCartney had concert in my town (Zagreb) he had to sing it five times, the last time he stopped in the middle of the song, and the whole audience finished it a cappella. He has to perform this song at least three times (I presume) at every concert, people never have enough of it.
A day in life

George ❤
❤️💯❤️🎶❤️
Well, George Harrison probably was getting pissed off since Eric Clapton took Patty Boyd from him. I think he got over it. Eric Clapton and George Harrison remained friends through the end of George Harrison's life. Wonderful song.
This music video always makes me feel lonely
Thank you for sharing . My absolute favourite Beatles song . I did read somewhere a few years ago that George had said eventually that he wrote the song about Buddhism . I can’t remember the quote but basically people would think he was nuts writing about that so he made people believe it was a girl . I don’t know if true but it’s a interesting thought 🤔. 🇬🇧👍🏻💛🤍
Listen to Lady Madonna and Blackbird
Best love songs by the Beatles?
Let's see...
Julia, by John Lennon for his mother...
Martha my dear, by Paul McCartney for his dog... :)
Here, There and Everywhere, by Paul McCartney apparently for his girlfriend back in time, (not sure at 100%)...
For No One, By PM same album
And I Love Her, by PM again
Maybe I'm Amazed and My Love, PM off the Beatles...
