"Maggie May" originally appeared on the album 'Every Picture Tells a Story.' In October 1971, the song went to number one in the UK and simultaneously topped the charts in the United States and was Stewart's first substantial hit as a solo performer and launched his solo career. Rolling Stone ranked the song #130 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

He’s such an underrated singer
I love Ronnie Wood in the Rolling Stones but it is always touching to see him performing with his good mate Rod.
Ron seems at home with Rod❤❤❤❤
I agree Ronnie Woods and Rod Stewart can make more beautiful music than most any other twosome or full sized band in rock music 😊😂❤😊

When I hear songs like this I feel pure emotion. And then I feel sorrow for most kids today who will never experience real music.
I used to listen to this song while commuting 90 miles to and from university three to four days a week when I decided to collect my books and head on back to school at age 45 to finally finish my bachelor degree that took only 20 years to complete. You know life things like work and family took over for awhile but I got it done. Nearly killed me spending 3 years with all of the hours studying, pulling all nighters writing papers then driving with no sleep during final exams week. This song became my anthem and I would crank it up and sing as loud as I could on that lonely, boring 90 miles of country interstate. It was all worth it when I finally walked across that stage in my cap and gown holding that diploma. Those were the days. 🏫🛣️🎓

Maggie May was released in 1970, nothing less than 51 years ago from now, and it still makes me feel like dancing and singing along every time I listen to it.
Thanks for liking and listening to my songs, Thanks for your love♥️and moral support. I hope you have been well entertained over the years?
Still gives me goosebumps
I turned 51 a few weeks ago.i love Rod Stewart back in the 70s and still do.
Me too! I remember hearing it in the girls locker room during cheerleading tryouts. 51 years ago. What a great ride!
This song was on the radio the first day my friend and I were riding to school (sophomore year) in his 1964 Skylark with the top down. They played it so often I knew the lyrics in about a week. This is my favorite Rod song. It sticks in your head but that ain't a bad thing. I like to jam along with this video, Woody tears it up. Great musicians, great song, the best R&R voice in the business.
I'm 70 next week was 18 at Xmas 1970 when this was No1. Had my hair in a Rod Stewart cut and danced all night at the Office party to Maggie May. What a night that was is "Every Way". Loved him ever since!!!
Rod is timeless! My 18 ur old grandson was singing along the other day! What an accomplishment to write a song 50yrs ago and have 18yrs olds singing along today! True music!!
Im not a fan of the rest of his music but I love this song and I’m 28
❤❤❤bless your grandson
Rocking Ronnie rules
From time to time I listen to this song and it cheers me up eternally!! I'm 69 and love good music!!!
You can't beat the old MTV unplugged sessions. This is when the true artistic musicians shine.
This one has lots of electronic music in it.
Bruce Springsteen, kiss and Bon Jovi unplugged was so Great
Less of the old...... Lol.🥰 J Xxxxxxxx
the best thing MTV ever created, although some unplugged version are worse than studio ones (Soda Stereo for example)
Back when REAL music was being made, mid to late 60's, early to mid 70's greatest music for rock and pop all time....... imho
Rod and Ronnie look like genuine mates. All the years they've played together, all the great music together and with other musicians.
Cheers
Over 50 years of making magic!

Rod & Ronnie. Doesn’t really get much better does it. One of the best rock songs ever in my view. Legends
Yes, a song from the days when Rod sang actual rock and roll, and Ronnie played in a band where you could actually hear his first-rate talent.
Absolutely Legends
I totally agree...listening to them and the force they were was never a disappointment.
Music as it should be played. Beautiful.
Damned right
I never get tired of watching this classic
I've always believed that the more our memories are linked to certain songs, the more the emotions are alive and deep in our hearts.
Your so right
How insightful and very true! I think memory is strongly connected as well, one song in particular takes me back to my childhood home.
Yes!
Music connects us worldwide!
Dork
Watching Ronnie stare intently at Rod in the beginning of the song put a huge smile on my face. Two people that somehow managed to meet one another and created some incredible music together. The end of this song gets me every time. Everyone is so happy, clapping and singing along. The 90's were a great time. I'm glad I got to live my teens years during that decade.
70s mate not 90sl
@aliengrey6052 He means the recording Rod was pretty big late 80s and early 90s I believe he released a great single in '93
It really is a wonderful recording. I've been appreciating Ronnie way more lately, and he has never shined better than with Rod/Faces.
They’re such a great team together
@@aliengrey6052The video you're commenting on was recorded in 1993....
Probably the best version of this he ever made. A classic

Without a doubt one of the 10 best songs to come out of the classic rock era.
and to think they felt the song wasn't even good enough to be recorded, and they stuck it on the record bec the were one song short . . .
Love this song. From Margaret Mary Schafer Gray
The charisma between Rod and Woody is incredible! Watched the whole thing! Classic tune!
Two peacocks onstage! Their work with Faces was something to see live.
Ronny Wood is really one of the most underrated guitar players of all time!

Ronnie Wood, doing what he’s done for years , extremely underrated guitarist
OMG Please. That artist has made hidden to artist requesting to have to play with . Like tons of cash! Because He loved music that much as an artist,
On what planet is Ronnie Wood an underrated guitarist?
@@markredmond2014 On my planet
Yes Ronnie has only played with the Jeff Beck band, Rod Stewart in their band The Faces, than with and still playing in The Stones since the seventies and has done numerous projects (invites) with probably half the musicians in the industry. Oh yea….he’s underrated.
Yes, he is underrated. He can put Keith to shame.
I am 30 Years now, i know this song from my mum who is by far the most important person in my life. It is an absolutely awesome piece of Art, and i will ensure to spread it at least the next 50 Years so ppl will allways remember what true music means
This song is more than 50 years old and it doesn’t matter if you’ve been listening to it for those 50 years or not, the second u hear it playing causes the same excitement that it did 50 years ago and that is one hell of an accomplishment. It just doesn’t wear out or get old, and even more beautiful is the fact that kids today hearing it for the first time fall in love with it just as quickly as listeners did when it came out. Check out the covers on UA-cam alone and you’ll see what I mean…they like it enough to learn to play it and post it for the world to see. It’s a very rare achievement, writing a song that affects SO many people n a great way for SO long and that possibly may never end. Not only has Rod Stewart done that with this song, he did it with a handful of songs. It’s an amazing thing to happen, and even though he’ll never hear or see this, I’d like to say thank you for giving the world ur songs. I’m 48 yes old and have listened to these songs since I was a child overhearing my mother playing them while she would get fixed up to go out, and I’ve used them a lot of times to help pick my moods up when I was really down about some things here or there and to really pump myself up before going out, like my mom used to. While I’m blabbing away I’ll say it one more time, thank you. You’ve got a loving way about you that’s literally help guide people to b better than they are for years. ❤🙏😎
just played this to my musician son who is 21, he told me it is the i sing to my dog(who is called Maggie), i feel like a complete failure

Chills run up and down my spine

A pair of absolute legends brilliant song superb xx
One of the things that makes this album special is how Rod Stewart digs deep to give the lyrics such expressive power.
I was at the thrift store today and I seen this unplugged edition CD sitting on the shelf and bought it for 2$ best 2$ I’ve spent in a long time
Of all the "unplugged" shows on MTV, Rod Stewart was FOR SURE my favorite one. I remember jumping up off the couch and dancing for several songs... 👏👏👍👍😎😎✌✌
For as long as I can remember this song played when it was time to return to school. It played when my children went back to school at the end of the summer. The end of the summer is never the same if I don’t hear this on the radio. Some happy thoughts never die as it only gets better. Thank you Rod
Such a classic! People are coming around again to this music 🎵🎵

Every pictures tells a story...... What a gem!
A girl I was dating gave me the album, "Every Picture Tells A Story" back in 71. I've loved Rod ever since.
That chemistry between Ron & Rod is what partnerships in music are all about.
Agreed 100%.
They are fantastic together.
Absolutely!
I was thinking exactly the same :)
For sure, for sure..Couple of GIANTS!! Bass kit needed to be turned down a notch or two..
Those were the days of the real Rod Stewart. An epic “Unplugged “ ( and seated). This cassette was in the regular rotation on my long commutes to and from work in the 90’s.
Great memories of a truly great artist.
Rod Stewart had a world-class voice. But his greatness comes in large part by those guys sitting around him lying down the groove. Few on earth can play guitar like Ron Wood.
@@jx14aby have loved them both since the Faces days. Not thrilled with Rod’s later direction.
I'm into metal, but Ron is a complete master on his guitar, wow. 💯 Undefeated
I don’t think anyone has mentioned Chad Cromwell and how much of a deep pocket that drumming creates, he’s amazing
The record company didnt think this song was any good. Neither did Rod. One of the greatest songs ever written.
never ever listen to the label lol
It's insane! This song will always in my top 3 favorite Rod Stewart songs
Never listen to a record company , who is famous for this song ? Rod or the record company
@David Michaels Up to a point I agree but sometimes a project would have been a loser if it didn't have right director, cast etc. Imagine if Future had been made 5 years earlier with a not so tight original script and starring David Cassidy . Or if Casablanca was made with original studio casting idea of Ronald Reagan and Ann Sheridan and original end where she stays. Maggie Mae was perfect for Rod post Faces early solo era.
it tells an entertaining story that most young men dream of
So many great MTV Unplugged performances back in the day. This was one of them. I miss that show!
Amazing Rod Stewart never disappoints 😊
Something that always seems to be overlooked or at least unspoken about; the guitar solo. While its not a technically incredible solo it is totally iconic! I bet anyone who loves this tune can hum the whole guitar solo.
@Lidia Perutti ok? Mani supposed to know what that means?
Still, after all these years this is a masterpiece.... when that mandolin riff kicks in at the end I’m lifted on wings of joy!
Ronnie playing guitar amazing...
Fantastic!!!
Rod is a living legend! Rod still rocks!
Ronnie & Rod oh my I love this rendition, Ronnie’s guitar slinging skills are off the chart GREAT here!! ♥️
This sure takes me back. Isn't it amazing how after so many years this song is still GREAT.
Rod still has that beautiful voice....hitting all the lows and highs of a song with his voice!
The Internet has created a lot of crap but also a place where great music will never die.

He was in New Orleans playing at The Warehouse the summer this came out. I went dancing with him in the French Quarter. Dances as good as he sings!

What a great performance. I used to have this sung to me in the playground in the early 70’s!

Of all the countess recordings of this wonderful song, this must rank in the top echelons of being the best. The backing band is faultless, especially the bass player, never ever get tired of watching this video. Sounds as fresh today as it did 50 years ago. Utter bliss.

MAGGIE MAY.ONE OF MY FAVORITES ROD STEWART HE CAN SING THANK YOU FOR THIS
My dad named me maggie-may after this song :)
I remember someone asking me why I liked going to see live music so much when you could " just listen to the record ." I couldn't put into words the reason why but this performance has given me the answer both to that question and why I couldn't put it into words. When you see a performer whose music you enjoy , playing live , and they have a moment during a song where they are moved so strongly that they do things that only they could ever do in that moment, that's why you need to be there watching and listening. 5:15 - 5:20 is one of those moments and there's just no words for me to describe it.
He can mesmerize you, like Stevie nicks or led zeppelin, when you feel like your part of them in those moments, there really isn't a explanation,! But I understand it,
Tru dat!!!!

One of the BEST artists and one of THE best songs EVER! Few know that, per his own admission on a talk show, Rod had a real "Maggie," an older woman whom he loved, and who dumped him pretty much as the lyrics say. He was young and in love, and she was older but NOT. SAD!!! GREAT lyrics and composition, and he sings it so well probably because it happened to him!
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down? He’s wonderful. And all those beautiful instruments. I could watch and listen for hours.
