I like the Gen4, because of the finger grooves and the backstrap inserts, they actually fit my hand. The Gen5 brought back the things I didn't like about Glock grip for the Gen 1-2 guns. I like Gen4 only out of all the Glocks.
It’s not an issue of weather the gen4 is better than the gen5. The issue is what the gen5 brings to the table and improved upon, and so far the gen5 has not disappointed.
I originally wanted a 19x, but ended up going with a 17 gen 5. They had a regular g19 in the store and it felt terrible in my hand compared to the 17 grip. Which i believe is what was on the 19x.. but i realized i dont mind the slightly longer barrel of the 17. We'll see how the extra size feels for everyday carry once i get my CCL in a few days!
I bought a gen 5 for the specific purpose of them not having finger grooves. To me its a modern day Gen 2 and I love retro guns, so it works out perfect. A steel guide rod that helps with muzzle flip is a plus also.
Actually, I heard that Glock is discontinuing the Glock 17. I actually found a new Gen 4 yesterday that had a very interesting finish from the factory. The top, front, and rear of the slide were the matte grey 2 tone color that Glock does. But the sides of the slide are a mirror polish.
I live in California where we can only buy Gen3’s. The Gen4’s and 5’s are not on the “approved” list. I know, I need to move, but I’m pretty well stuck here.
Actually I like the blocky look, it makes for the character of a Glock, and I also like the slide smooth in the front with only one set of serrations in the back. Only things I like about the Gen 5 is the finish, the grip without grooves and the feeling of the trigger. If could have that with the esthetics of a Gen 4 I would be happy.
I hated Glocks a lot, im old dude I was a MP in the Air Force and I being trained with 1911 pistols and Berettas, I carry full size guns only and like I said I hated Glocks really until I carried one OWB, night and day difference in weight compared with any other of my pistols, since I carry OWB mid ride and flush to the body holsters, man I can carry a G17 all day and I dont even notice is in my belt, totally love it, grip angle, trigger or even sights never being a problem for me all I carry is a Glock 17 or G22.
@@KSkrode If you carry OWB try the Glock combat, is a Glock brand holster, is like $20, flush to your body, discrete, and fits like a glove, buy the full size, the half gun model is not that good.
If you have the Glock 17 Gen 4 you don't need a Gen 5. Not any significant changes to justify a new purchase in my opinion. Been a collector of firearms since 1983 and why it's in my collection. Most that I buy I don't shoot they are NIB.
That's cool you got them all, I'm about to get my first Glock which will be the gen 5. Why is the Gen 4 your least favorite tho? and Gen 2 seems too old to be better than the 5.
@@jaythaplug806 The finish on a Gen 4 is the worst they’ve ever made. It really is lousy but thankfully they improved the finish again with the Gen 5’s. The Gen 2 is like a Gen 5, only it has the single recoil spring and a single slide stop/release. It has the texturing which is more mild than the Gen 5. Also it has no finger grooves which was started in the Gen 3’s. To me the Gen 2 and Gen 5 just feel better in the hands.
@@illmatic826 Indeed it is. Then there’s Gen5 1.0 and then Gen5 2.0 Id we want to get technical. The gun maker always gets innovative and modifies things without much fanfare about those changes. Other than that, the Gen5 is still a Gen5. Beautiful.
I’m a lifelong Glock fan, and I must say that under the hood the Gen 5 is the ultimate Glock 17. Everything about it is superior to the previous versions. But I do have a soft spot for the Gen 3
Its all subjective. I personally like the Finger Grooves of the gen 3 & 4. The front serrations are a great addition on the gen 5. Im right handed so I don't care about the ambi slide stop. I personally don't see the Gen 5 being a Huge Improvement over the gen 3 or 4 to me personally.

I measured barrel walls and it’s definitely thicker on gen 5 than gen 4. I assume it’s should hold higher pressures and hotter rounds and less prone to kabooms.
I really like my gen 5 I have changed a few things, I got a new trigger changing the weight to 1 pound, and a +4 mag extension both of those were gold so I thought it looked weird went ahead and bought a gold extended slide release and a gold extended mag release and a Lazer but it was good before all the changes just made it better.
My gen 4 fits me like a glove and the trigger is great. It's just as accurate as the gen 5, the only "negative" is my 4 won't shoot lead bullets which is no big deal as I don't like lead.

Gen 4 is underrated af… my favorite for that reason alone 😆. What can I say I like an underdog. In my opinion Gen 4 is the most underrated generation. Because of generation 4, Glock became more accessible to people with smaller hands, lefties, and frame improvements were made so that a weapon mounted light didn't crack the frame. We wouldn't have gen 5 without gen 4. Also, regarding the trigger difference: Like any generation of glock, the glock gen 4 trigger will be kinda stiff initially. This is normal. 500 rounds and beyond, the trigger smooths out like glass and becomes light and crisp. Just break her in. Gen 4 ftw.
Great video, one difference of opinion however. I think many new shooters would be better off with something other than the Glock. Ive seen a lot of new shooters limp wrist them, witch can be trained away but consider how many new gun owners aren’t going to train like you or I. Secondly, there is no safety on a Glock, we appreciate that feature, but many new shooters think that a safety is necessary.
yeah. my g34 gen 4 has a much better trigger than my gen 5 19 and 17. my 34 has a definitive wall and cleaner snap. while the gen 5s feel like a sponge. maybe I will do a g34 trigger swap on my 19/17 eventually. also like the extended slide stop/release that comes on the 34.
I know my Glock 22 one of the first made was one of the best Glocks I've shot, I have a gen 5 17 and I'm switching to a Canik TP9. Just not that keen on the 17.
I think it is Stupid that my Gen 4 didn't come with the glock rear adjustable sight. it cost $23 dollars, it should have been standard. The real surprise was the Gen 5 still didn't come with a adjustable rear sight either. My glock shot 2"right and 2" high when I bought it, you can adjust left /right but not up or down. I'd rather pay $23 extra for a gun with stock adjustable rear sights.

If I already have a 17, I'll take that money and Instead of buying a gen 5 17, I'll be after a gen 5 20..
I'm surprised they don't make the mag release both sides as well. I saw a video of a police officer wounded with the first shot. He had to switch hands. Having the magazine release on the opposite side made things touch and go for him. He was good though and got both of the bad guys.
My hand is perfect for finger grooves also the Gen 3 is the perfect Glock with the reliable single spring smaller mag release it’s the best Glock IMO it’s like there going backwards now my G45 is great but the Gen 3 19 is amazing!🧠🤯🔫
Once I have seen a video with Johny Glock. There he showed a Gen 4 Glock that was his with a adapter for a single recoil spring. He said he likes the recoil impulse better with these. Navy Seals also went with the G19 gen 3 (even so Gen 4 was also available)mainly because of the more reliable single spring. But on the other hand how often did you hear the a dual recoil spring from Glock failed?!
Gen 4….utterly reliable, but accuracy was “ok” at best. Got the job done and you could count on it. That’s about it. But that’s all most need and know when they buy Glock. Gen 5 isn’t just marketing hype. It’s a definite upgrade. Excellent trigger, finish and way better accuracy from previous Gens.
The Glock 19 barrels are interchangeable between all generations I believe, I've looked online for aftermarket barrels and they didn't specify the generation compatibility. I've tried the gen 3 barrel in the gen 5 and it worked.

Navy Seals also went with the G19 gen 3 (even so Gen 4 was also available)mainly because of the more reliable single spring. But on the other hand how often did you hear the a dual recoil spring from Glock failed?!
Gen 5 because I’m left handed. I own a Gen 5 Glock 19 mos and Glock 19X. And hopefully soon a Glock 45 mos.
very well done.
Can you put they Glock 17 gen 5 slide barrel etc on the gen 4 frame/lower and it work?
Gen 4….utterly reliable, but accuracy was “ok” at best. Got the job done and you could count on it. That’s about it. But that’s all most need and know when they buy Glock.
Gen 5 isn’t just marketing hype. It’s a definite upgrade. Excellent trigger, finish and way better accuracy from previous Gens.
Does anyone know if a Gen 5 barrel will work in Gen 4?
No
MY 17 gen 5 FS should arrive on 24th, but ill stick to my decked out 19 gen 3 for conceal carry, the gen 5s are fun though!
What website u recommend?
@@chingonyayo ordered it though my local dealership here in germany, guessing youre US based
It's gonna be a gen5 for me do they have stainless slide/barrel options az?
The Glock 19 barrels are interchangeable between all generations I believe, I've looked online for aftermarket barrels and they didn't specify the generation compatibility. I've tried the gen 3 barrel in the gen 5 and it worked.
