CORRECTION: The New Marksman Barrel is Hexagonal and not standard Lands and Grooves. Very little info on the Barrel and I was going on a Reputable Source that was incorrect. Thanks Sootch00
sootch00 Gen 4s already have a "hexagonal" (8-sided polygon) type of rifling. So what seems to be the difference between the Gen 4 barrel rifling from the "Marksman Barrel"?
sootch00 I like your videos, and you are very knowledgeable, but you said something about the new orange follower that is probably the dumbest shit I've ever heard you say. That new follower isn't to indicate that the gun is empty, it's job is to show the mag is empty. ALWAYS look down and inside the chamber to check for an EMPTY CHAMBER... You probably already know this and it was probably something said off the cuff, but you educate a lot of newcomers, and shit like that could get someone hurt. Thanks for the video, and years of great reviews. Hope you don't take criticism the wrong way.
Bought one, Shot 200 rounds.... it's a glock.... works like a glock. Goes bang when trigger is pulled. If you don't like it don't buy it, and if you do like it... buy it. That simple.
This was the first glock I've ever purchased and from the perspective of someone who has no experience with the previous generations I think a lot of thought went in to the gen 5 design. It's my every day carry gun and I'm very happy with it
Switching from the sigsauer classic line to glock 5 years ago I can say this: As long as glock keeps going bang when you pull the trigger without jamming I am good.
Gen 3 forever. Works good…lasts a long time! They have to try and make new generations to convince guys that they need a new Glock. Your old Glock is just fine. Funny how they had no finger grooves, then they added them because it made the gun BETTER….now they removed them again. It's all marketing.
Looking to purchase my first handgun and I've decided on the Glock 19--for a first-time buyer, would you recommend going with the popular G3 or should I just go ahead and purchase a generation 5 glock?
No I haven't actually. I don't think I'll be purchasing my glock within the month--I sadly live in California so there's a few hoops I have to jump through to purchase my first handgun.
As a 30 year owner of the G19 gen 2, this is nice. Only needs a set of new sights and a light for an ideal EDC. A good all around pistol. The competition has really stepped up but this brand is incredibly reliable.
Always loved your channel for years! You’ve been one of the most honest and courteous reviewer on UA-cam. I watch every single video and appreciate your commentary as well as your tenor in presenting a firearm. Wishing you and your family all the best during these trying times.
After the Gen 3's.......if they wanted to improve the Glock, they should of just took the hump off the back of the grip, put metal sights on the gun,and maybe take off the finger grooves........and thats it
I happen to like my finger grooves. I did suggest to Glock awhile back, how about intrerchangable front straps, one with finger grooves and one without finger grooves. Problem solved. Maybe that might be a gen6. LOL
My problem right now trying to choose I like the groves but the gen 3 doesn’t have the back straps and I like the gen 5 slide and finish better that the 3 if only the 5 had grooves
Awesome video brother 💪🏼 Got my first handgun two days ago (which was this gun) and to be honest I didn't know anything about it nor how good Glocks are or how this gun was. This gun was the first one I ever bought and also the first handgun I ever fired. 😂 But glad to know that I made a really good choice. Thanks man 🙌🏼
It's beautiful, the color and finish are great, I like the grip better WITHOUT the finger grooves so that's a plus. And it still eats any ammo I put in it. I love the Gen 5
Keeping it 💯. The haters just can’t get over how good the gun is. What more can the gun world want now it’s going to eat everybody’s shity reloads too. Lmfao
I actually came back to Glock because of the Gen 5 changes that they made. (The plastic "drop in the bucket" sights could still use some improvements.) But overall, I really like the changes. Especially dropping the finger grooves and improved grip texture.
IDK, I'm underwhelmed by the Gen 5 too to be honest. You say the Gen 2 comment is hilarious, but I think it has real merit. Glock added the finger grooves and called it an improvement on perfection. Now the deletion of the grooves is another improvement. They added the 3rd pin and said the same, now it's deleted again. Polygonal rifling was said to be more accurate due to less bullet deformation and better gas seal, but now this non-polygonal barrel is more accurate and another improvement on perfection. I hate the finish on the Gen 4 because it scratches way too easily. A harder finish is welcomed, but I wish it was the Gen 3 frying pan finish. The other changes I don't really love enough to move from the Gen 3 and 4 guns that I own and like very much. :/
mannys9130 That's the truth i have a gen 2 g22 from the 90s and was hoping to upgrade. For $300 more i can have a gen 2 with a rail and a different barrel? I could dremel my own rail and get a lone wolf threaded barrel and some gen 4 mags and you probably couldn't tell the difference except for the holster wear.
as i recall Glock had to add the finger groves and a couple of other frame mods to allow them to be imported into the country as "target pistols", they would even import them with a plastic bag of adjustable sights in the case and nothing on the gun. the target sights traveled back and forth to Austria and the standard sights or night sight installed in the USA all to skirt import laws.
darangemaster1 I don't think that's correct. I could be wrong, but gen 2 19s were imported without grooves. The full size guns get a smooth trigger, and the smaller sizes get a serrated "target" trigger. You're right about the adjustable sights which are replaced with fixed ones once ashore here. As you see though, the gen 5 in the video is made in Austria, and it has no finger grooves.
eh its been awhile since i got the info prolly the first time i went to glock school. in 98 and recerted ten times or so, doesn't matter in the long run
Maybe it's my "Perfectly sized for the M1911" Mil-Spec hands, but I actually liked the finger grooves. Always found the Gen 3/4 grip very nice in the hand.
I got the opportunity to go try this Glock 19 Gen 5 yesterday. Not to mention it was also my first time shooting anything in general. It was so easy to handle, had a good weight to it, and I don't know if it was beginners luck or what, but wow, was it accurate as hell. We are looking to purchase a firearm especially with everything going on. This is definitely at the top of our list.
Got the glock 23 gen 5. I was under the assumption that it was just the same as other generations. And while the saying still goes "a glock is a glock." I must say there are some great features that they added. The dual slide release is really nice, the new texture while not game changing is definitely different. I think it changes the over all feeling of the gun. If you haven't shot prior generations and you buy the gen 5 as your first glock, you probably won't know any better. But as someone who's shot nothing but glocks since I was a little kid, I can tell you the subtle differences were worth the extra cash.
I have to say that I'm not a fan of the finger grooves although I just went in to buy a Gen 3 G19 yesterday. I think one of the big things is that as in a car or a cell phone, some folks might expect a new updated gun model to be radically different. Well, there's only so much you can do with a semi-auto pistol as far as improvements and I'm one of those people who say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. My Gen 1 G17 is also just fine. You gotta remember that for those of us who've been around a while, the original G17 took quite a while before it gained respect as a solid, well made pistol, people didn't wanna trust the 'new plastic pistol.' If Glock were to have made the Gen 5 a complete, radical change and departure from the original Gen 1 then they would have to have overcome that same resistance to change they experienced in the mid 80's.
Great review Sootch. I went out and bought the gen 5. I love it. I like what you said about Glock not making major changes, people liked the Glock so why change it majorly. The flared, beveled Magwell is better than the standard and the trigger is much better. Finger grooves people complained about in gen 4 videos, I remember that. Glock was even nice enough to send you three magazines and made s barrel more accurate that no one even complained about. Yeah they didn’t flush the frame to the slide but it still holsters easier and that was the point right? Sootch thank you for giving a positive review on this gun because I think they just fine tuned something they made right the first time.
iTheGeek but they put the dumb ass finger grooves on there in the first place to try to be special. They don't get much credit for then taking off their mistake.
Ok this is 4yrs old...my Gen 5 19 ( purchased 9/21) did have the front serrations. Also my slide in sunlight almost has a burnt bronze tone...very cool.
I got the G19 gen 5 right away because of some good things out of the box with it. I like how they simplified the trigger group and how it has an ambi slide release. I also like how easy it is to completely disassemble it completely. The biggest thing I liked is how they got rid of the finger grooves and went with a straight frame grip. It made everything really nice and my favorite pistol.
Super happy with my gen 5 and the fact it was only 30 more expensive then the gen 4 was a win win . Way better ejection pattern then my gen 3 none to face like people who obviously haven't shot the gun say... Also super happy with the stock trigger huge improvement.
It would be great idea to make sights out of hard rubber or rubberised sights which would serve two purposes 1) aiming 2) reduce an impact when gun is dropped remaining operational.
First time glock owner. Glock 19 gen 5. It has a crisp trigger and a surprisingly good reset if inwere to go by all the reviews. I did change the sights to steel glock night sights. I shoot this gun well.
@@c.r.rg9529 after shooting PDP gen 5 trigger feels like trash. I used to wonder about people saying stuff about triggers but I wasn’t a snob. Now I see the difference and Glock should feel ashamed.
I agree. I've run the gamut of S&W, Taurus, Ruger, and CZ. The gen 5 19 has a better trigger than any striker-fire I've owned so far. I tried a P-10C side by side with the 19 before buying, and the Glock trigger felt much lighter and crisper.
My first handgun is a G19 Gen5. I didn't like the finger grooves on the Gen4, and didn't know what a Gen3 was. As far as I am concerned, the Gen5 is a Glock, and it doesn't get any better in the Glock line. I like it better than other guns I tried.
I have the Gen 5 and my son the Gen 4. The trigger feel is an upgrade but I wouldn’t say night and day difference but noticeable. A great piece of engineering and improved finish on the slide.
At 9:05 the rear sight notch is wider which helps aiming because there are now adequate light bars on either side of the front post. And the notch is also deeper so now you can seen the entire front dot instead of only 2/3rd (a gripe of mine). The new rear sights have the height stamped inside the notch in mm instead of the hash marking code on the side of the sight. 6.5 mm = "--" (single hash mark). To make room for the wider and deeper notch, the white outline is thinner, which helps a bit in focusing on the front sight dot. Although simple, this is one of the best Gen 5 improvements that few people are talking about.
kwik2hear G45/19x are just stupid. Let’s take away an inch of barrel to reduce ballistic performance and an inch of sight radius so it’s less accurate with irons, but leave it on the G17 frame which is way more difficult to conceal than a 19 and has a weird angle that doesn’t fit most shooters hands. All the bad features of the 19 and all the bad features of the 17 combined. Perfection. Runaway hit top seller 2018-2020.
Thanks for the enthusiastic review, I am personally underwhelmed with the Gen 5 but that's just me. It just seems like this model was rushed in design. I wished they waited another year and got everything sorted out properly. Thanks again-
I think instead of having "generations" that insult their own past products, Glock should simply offer "options." I was told the Gen4 was indestructible perfection for 7 years. Now this? Come on! The opening at the front of the bottom of the grip (to allow one to rip out the mag), as you point out -- terrible!!!! That alone is a reason I will not purchase a Gen 5. Will pinch even during firing!!! No finger grooves AND this huge hole at the bottom of the grip? How can that be preferable to the Gen4 with finger grooves and no hole at the bottom? That's a Gen 2 thing that many hated. There is no question most of these changes are, indeed, "changes" or "options" that are personal preference things, not necessarily "upgrades".
Heisenberg White good points, I'm on board with your thinking. This gen 5 is like a modernized throwback hybrid. I tried to like this new format but going to stick with previous generations. As many people have said, the double stack Glocks feel blocky, this new generation attempts to deal with that but it ended up with a thicker gun than before. I don't want ambidextrous slide release / lock, I want a slimmer gun. They need to make in my opinion a setup just for left handed people, this will keep the gun from getting so thick. I also like front serrations, and I agree that the cutout in the grip is not desirable. If your going to add a means to strip out a mag in the case of a malfunction, put the darn cutouts on the sides. The Sig P320 does a good job of this.
Disappointed that this G19 Gen5 review, like so many others, glosses over the Gen5 mid production update. Not all Gen5's are the same. Changes include: forward serrations, beveled front of frame to match beveled front of slide (cosmetic I know), moon cut delete, and most importantly a left of breech face relief groove to improve ejection.
Excellent review. I would love to see front slide serrations. Also, for that size, when it comes to capacity ( 19 rounds) and ergo, the XDM 9 still wins. I like the finger grooves removal. In my review of the G19 Gen 4, years ago, I called it an imposing feature. The barrel changing? Not revolutionary. They are just trying to get the share of after market created by themselves, for offering the Polygonal only version all these years. The magwell enlarging seems to be a problem "to some"already. Not everybody is in competition or LEO. The bottom end of the grip seem to not fit good in medium hands. Well, but the road to perfection is here.... just not quite there yet.
sootch00 .. Aren't Glocks notorious for shooting a little low and left ...just like your target in this review..... maybe that's why they had the sites moved right?? Awesome review as usual thanks!!!!
Thanks Greg, I centered the sight but didn't adjust it when I got to the range to sight it in. I'll need to carry my sight pusher down next trip and sight it in.
Ken Edwards I went to one of my local gun shops, they had just got two 19's and two 17's plastic sights and two night sights and all were off to the right!
I never liked the finger grooves on the Glocks, so I never wanted to buy one, but I do love the Gen 5 19 and the 23. Both are very, very nice shooters.
I'm really glad you did this review Sootch. Of all the ones I've watched so far, and there are quite a few, yours addressed the new design changes the best. Glock has been producing "bullet proof" firearms for years and doesn't have to re-invent the wheel, so to speak, to come out with their newest generation pistol. They simply make improvements to keep their customer base happy.. They listen to what people want then put it out there. I think they've hit another home run with the new Gen5.
Call me crazy, but for a moment there I thought I heard your targets ringing “Mary had a Little Lamb” during the opening sequence. I’m hearing things now 😳😂😂😂
I just asked hickok45 to set up his steel targets so he could play Mary Had a Little Lamb on them. Now I'm wondering if I read your comment before I did that.
sootch00 Quick question subscriber count exploded. lately I've noticed on all UA-cam gun channels when I looked at their subscriber count is just through the roof all of a sudden and I like how you pointed out that cut in the mag well was sharp I was wondering about that when I looked at it the first time
Just switched to a Glock 19 gen 5 from my 1911 and I love it! It’s taking some time getting use to no manual safety but it’s just making me be more cautious and safe with my new firearm. Love it!
MoreAmerican it's not scalloped, it's beveled. Who gives a shit...about the frame...unless you're staring at it more than shooting it. It's purely cosmetic and really, I'd rather have the extra plastic on the dust cover. I highly doubt this was something the Glock engineers "missed."
This is my first gun after 48 years of pushing off buying one. Got lucky at a Cabella's. It feels so right in my hand and not at all intimidating to shoot. Great Vid.
So funny when people get so worked up over why people like glocks. It's a handgun that will go bang EVERYTIME you squeeze the trigger provided you don't modify it.PLAIN AND SIMPLE its a gun that functions everytime
Functions yes... accurate no. Glock, especially Gen IV Glocks, seriously suck for speed and accuracy. My factory Walther PPQ M2 beats my Glocks hands down and without ANY modifications. Whereas, my Glocks ALL require aftermarkets inners to make them as accurate and fast as my Walther PPQ M2. Glocks are fine for run-of-the-mill shooting... to include up close and personal CQC combat. However, for best speed accuracy... I will never recommend a factory Glock. Considering how much one has to spend (for Glock internal upgrades), one should merely buy a more efficient handgun for $700-900 USD. Simple as that. Proof is in the pudding... and Glock is to blue collar as better handgun manufacturers are to white collar.
DaMuses glocks aren't accurate?? Where have you ever heard that? You just don't like them and that's fine. Gripe about the shit factory sights, I get it. Some don't like the factory trigger, others love it. Some hate the design, although every other company copies them. But they are very accurate. Maybe you just aren't used to the trigger and prefer others.
Goes bang every time.... unless you limp-wristed it in an emergency situation because you were unable to get a good grip on the firearm, or your hand was injured. Not so great for a self-defense gun, especially considering there are many other pistols that are much less susceptible to limp wristing malfunctions.
Good review of the first edition of Gen 5 Glock. Everything you highlighted on this video 2 yrs ago like the front seration, bevel slide not meeting the frame, the cut in the front of the grip - these were all corrected by Glock. That's the kind of a company you can really trust cause they really listen to their customer's complaint.
I have a glock 19 gen 5 and absolutely love it. Highly accurate. I also have a glock 30s in .45 caliber and it has the finger grooves. I've gotten used to them, but I would rather not have the finger grooves. Maybe it is better to have them on the .45 because it has more recoil and so possibly a better grip. I love my glocks though.
I just bought a Gen 5 Glock 19 MOS and found that all of your stated concerns have been resolved with the latest batch of Gen 5’s. The front of the frame has been beveled to match the slide, the cutout on the grip has been removed, and front slide serrations have been added. My sights were aligned perfectly, although they’ll be replaced with co-witnessing sights, because of the RMR. The trigger is great! (IMHO) Overall, I love it!
Just picked up my Gen 5 19 ordered with factory night sights and found the the front angle of the frame now matches the front angles of the slide, just like the 19x.
Love your site; the reviews are detailed, and you tell it like it is without trashing the product. My question: have you done any reviews on the Polymer 80 kits? I'd like to hear your opinion. Thanks!
As a left-handed shooter with a wife that is also left-handed, it's a no brainer! As far as the glock 19, I finally got to hold one and it is WAY WAY too small in my hand. We ordered the G17 MOS and it barely comes to the bottom of my hand. Wife liked the finger groves so will miss those but can always put a Hogue slip-on on it.
I appreciate your review. I never cared for the Glock until now. I love the fact the slide release is ambidextrous. I'm in the process of finding the best price and getting my first Glock!
the experience i really have with the Glock guns is the 40 cal sub compact and mid size. At the time I hated how it felt in my hand and became a hater of Glock based on that. I've recently found out that I can add improvements to the grip to make it feel better in my hand. I really want a gun that is reliable and durable.
I was looking at the FN 509 and I'm still considering it. I've seen how reliable and durable Glocks are, kinda like the AK47 is. That's what I want in the long run for my hand guns. I do own an XDS 3.3 9mm. It was a hard choice for my first hand gun but I liked what I was seeing and how it felt in my hand for a carry gun. Glock has been on my mind lately and I believe it's my next purchase. Thanks for the recommendation.
A friend of mine let me shoot his G19 Gen5 at the range, while I was shooting a G19 Gen4. After firing a couple of magazines, I was convinced that I wanted one. I now have it with Trijicon night sights, and I love it. It doesn't have the front notch for the pinky, and it has serrations on the front of the slide. My wife is also planning on getting her own G19 Gen5. Your mileage may vary.
Great vid, as always. I just bought another Gen 4, because it's what I'm used to and I fear change. I do like some elements of the Gen 5, but I'm hoping for some minor refinements in the Gen 6 before I switch-- e.g., better matching of the front of frame to front of slide, etc.
HURTS my pinky finger. I wish that there wasn’t a recess where you grip your pinky finger. Not comfortable but it looks like they went with safety over comfort.
Sootch my friend! I hope you're doing well. I'm happy to say, that I'm finally escaping the clutches of Communist California, and will be heading to a free state, North Carolina. I sincerely look forward to updating my entire handgun inventory, and will be adding numerous Glock Gen 5s to my gun safes. Thank you my friend, for another excellent video! Cheers!
PoppaBear congratulations! I know actually what you're going through. I recently moved from shitty CA to Idaho. It's a whole different world of guns here. I finally got a ruger mark III and a gen 4 G26. The G19 gen5 is in my future. All of which would not be possible in CA. Man I hate that state!
Thanks Sootch!! I appreciate it bud! Look forward to freedom! Almost feels like I'm moving to a whole different country honestly. We've been through hell.
shamitoson - Thank you very much! Were you the guy on Calguns earlier discussing your move? I saw a member on calguns today, literally talking about moving to Idaho. If so, I'll send you a FR! Thank you very much. Sadly, I stayed, I fought, wife and I lived here an additional decade hoping and waiting for State of Jefferson to come to fruition, or, for this damn state to even show one sign of recovery. California just going further and further backwards every waking moment. They'll never learn, but maybe wake up after it's too late and there's no businesses left, and the whole state full of illegals, welfare recipients and trash. Cheers man! Congrats to you as well on the move! We aren't far behind
yup. it happened in the 90s when they switched to MIM extractors from the Tool steel ones of olden times. It's plagued the gen 3 and gen 4 glocks for almost 20+ years. I noticed that ejection the second I saw the video. /smh
Bought one 2 years ago. Had the frame cerakoted OD green for a sweet two tone and installed a vickers flat face trigger. Best 9mm I've ever owned! Put 1000s of rounds through it. Federal, CCI Blazer, Fiocchi, Remington, Winchester it can handle it all and not one jam or misfire. Trust it with my life.
Great video. I love the great info on the new Gen 5. The only negative for me personally is I don't like the 6.5 pound pull. My 3 Sigs all have a 4.4 pound pull. I truly wonder how much more "accurate" the new barrel is going to really be???
They made changes to the Glock 19 Gen 5 slide/rail spacing, so when disassembling the slide doesn't have to slide all the way off the front. It can surprise you by rolling off the frame before you expect it. I always field strip on a TEKMAT, so no damage when this happened to me the first time. Now I expect it. If you drop a Glock slide to hard ground and it lands on the thin section that retains the front of the recoil spring guide, you can end up with unrepairable slide damage.
I know this is an old review. I just picked up a new 19, Gen 5 and there are a few changes that have been made. First is that the cutout at the front base of the grip has been removed so there is nothing to pinch on. Next is the addition of seven front serrations on the slide so it is easier to grip the slide to do a press check. The third change is the grip frame has been beveled at the front to match the slide. The barrel on my new 19 does have the recessed crown and regular lands and grooves. These small improvements just make the new 19, Gwn 5 that much better.
This is definitely one of my favorite videos of going over the gen. 5 Glock 19 so far. Very informative, detailed, and great video quality. Keep up the great work, sootch00.
I’ve seen other people who did reviews on same handgun, but hands down without a doubt ur review is absolutely the best, just like all the reviews you did Sootch u r the best!
In December of 2018, I went to purchase either a M&P 2.0 9mm or a Glock 19. At the time, I only owned a Gen 3 Glock 22 and a Gen 4 Glock 21. When I went to the shop, the M&P 2.0 sold the day before. The shop did have a Glock 17 and Glock 19 in stock but both had the crappy, cheap, plastic stock sights and were not blue label models. The shop owner then showed me the new Gen 5 Glock 45 and I fell in love with it. It also had the factory night sights too. My other 2 Glocks also came with factory night sights as well. I like the G45 so much that I bought it. I thought it was a blue label Glock but after purchasing it, I found out different. I am now getting ready to buy a few more Glocks. With the Gen 4 and 5 Glock 19, I am torn though. There are features from each Gen that I like. My Gen 3 G22, has that same half moon cutout on it. In the 10 years of owning it and also using the same gun at work, do to the department that I work for issuing us G22’s, I have never pinched my finger on it but also don’t want to be in a self defense situation and while under stress, get my finger pinched in there. I love the front slide serrations on my G45, although I always rack the slide using the rear serrations but with the slickness of the new finish, having front slide serrations is nice. In the end, I’ll probably end up buying a Gen 5 but if I do end up getting a smoking deal on a Gen 4, I may decide to buy one of them instead. I’ve never had any issues with either of my Gen 3 or Gen 4 Glocks so I highly doubt I would be disappointed in owning a Gen 4 G19.
Underwhelmed? Heck no, this lefty here is excited!! I may finally join the dark side and buy my first Glock after years of wishing for one with a lefty slide release. Lol
obatron-one As a lefty I always wished Glock would release a version with ambi controls but after owning 2 gen 4's for a long time I'm used to just sling shotting the slide.
As a left handed Glock shooter, you have no more reason to switch now then you did for any of the previous generations. If you need ambi controls as a south paw, you should probably just not own firearms. It's not hard to use your index finger to work the releases.
Germ .Fish I wouldn't go that far. Us southpaws have it pretty rough in this right handed world. On most things we don't have a choice but to adapt to right handed tools. It would just be nice to comfortably use them. I'm not going to run out and get a Gen5 for the ambi slide release, I'm fine with sling shotting the slide. Even on my VP9 that has full ambi controls i inadvertently still sling shot it and forget that there's a slide release on the right side of the gun in the moment of reloading. None of my AR's have left handed controls. I've adapted to the right handed controls in a way that works for me.
Don't think of it as a slide release. It is a 'Slide Stop Lever.' It is meant for you to use when locking the slide back, not as a quick way of releasing the slide forward after a magazine change. The recoil spring is not under full tension when you release the slide stop lever, so the chances of you creating a 'fail to feed' malfunction are greater when you use this part as anything other than a tool to lock the slide open.
Funny how many manufacturers have incorporated many things introduced by Glock. But continue to hammer on the Glocks. I have two 1911 configuration 45s, a 5906 Smith, A Glock 19 & 42, four Smith revolvers enjoy shooting them all. The reason vehicles, spouses come in all shapes and shades is that everyone has a personal opinion on what’s just right for them. Same with a firearm. When your target is shooting back and the pucker factor comes into play what your shooting vs how well you can shoot it comes into play. (Retired law enforcement & 11 Bravo RVN)
Glocks were pretty revolutionary in the 80's and 90's..... But now they're just the apple of firearms, providing decent products for way above what they're worth. They haven't really innovated since the mid 90's
Nice review. Used to have a 22. Have a 35 now for fun. I liked them FOR the finger grooves. Wonder what generation they’ll decide to have finger groove or regular straps that can be interchanged like the back straps? I wonder why they don’t just come with night sights by now.
Thanks for the video, My 2022 G19 gen 5 has the front strap lower grip section filled in and the dust cover under the front of the barrel is now matching. Been usin Glocks since the 80s ,Good pistol.
CORRECTION: The New Marksman Barrel is Hexagonal and not standard Lands and Grooves. Very little info on the Barrel and I was going on a Reputable Source that was incorrect. Thanks Sootch00
Not "scalloped" but bevelled. Scalloped is like M&P slide serrations.
I said Beveled....
sootch00 Gen 4s already have a "hexagonal" (8-sided polygon) type of rifling. So what seems to be the difference between the Gen 4 barrel rifling from the "Marksman Barrel"?
TheStorm1016 Oh yeah. My bad...I guess they moved from a previous Octagonal to a hexagonal?
sootch00 I like your videos, and you are very knowledgeable, but you said something about the new orange follower that is probably the dumbest shit I've ever heard you say.
Husky Terra have nothing negative to say about glocks besides the stock sights . Still own 6
KRXWN VXK Well...they are kinda ugly as well...
Aaron Price like it said.... it's a GLOCK... and it does fall into that ugly category.
Husky Terra Lol, yep. At least you not one of those guys that insists Glocks look good haha
Husky Terra Nicely said!
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi have you made you’re choice yet
No I haven't actually. I don't think I'll be purchasing my glock within the month--I sadly live in California so there's a few hoops I have to jump through to purchase my first handgun.
Gen3 never fit my big hands.
Finger grooves on 19 Gen 3 do not fit my hands, the humps right in the middle of my fingers. On the 17 they fit.
Best part about Glock...you want a Gen 3, they still make them. You want a Gen 4, they still make them. You want a Gen 5, there you go!
Good o like the finger grooves I have a g19c and a g19 gen4 they will both outlive me.
Now Gen 1 for a while.

*_What HE said_*
Just bought one today! Can't wait to test it! Will go good along with my glock 17,21,22 and 43.
After the Gen 3's.......if they wanted to improve the Glock, they should of just took the hump off the back of the grip, put metal sights on the gun,and maybe take off the finger grooves........and thats it
Exactly.
Concierge place, and maybe a steel pin for the ejector assembly. Stop.
I happen to like my finger grooves. I did suggest to Glock awhile back, how about intrerchangable front straps, one with finger grooves and one without finger grooves. Problem solved. Maybe that might be a gen6. LOL
Best Glock 19 GEN 5 review on UA-cam.
I’d like to see Glock make the Gen 5 with groove/no groove option upon ordering one ... that way everyone’s happy
My problem right now trying to choose I like the groves but the gen 3 doesn’t have the back straps and I like the gen 5 slide and finish better that the 3 if only the 5 had grooves
You're better off buying a better gun.
Agreed. It fits my hand better than any of the previous models. Thanks Nancy!
The look of love in this man's eyes when he talks of his glock. Very good video
If Glock would just mass produce the Vickers Edition RTF2 I'd be happy. Hands down my favorite setup from the factory!
mannys9130 Preach!!!!
mannys9130 That's the truth i have a gen 2 g22 from the 90s and was hoping to upgrade.
Used to carry a Gen 4 G19 for work and I loved it. Really excited to check out the G19 Gen5. Great review sir. Stay safe.
I love how adding and removing the same features makes it more perfecter.
They're like the Apple of the firearms market.
It’s betterer now
pennywise the dancing clown... That’s the perfect Grammatical Grammar.. Thank you peoples.
Gen 5 is the bestest one yet!
I love it 😎
Maybe it's my "Perfectly sized for the M1911" Mil-Spec hands, but I actually liked the finger grooves.
Good crisp trigger..buuut I'm gonna swap it with a wheaton trigger...the sights are much better..buuuut I'll be swapping those out..lol
*every Glock lover
Leme just swap out half the key components to make it decent
@@Darkpara1 make it unreliable
Thank you for this update. It helped me immensely in making my recent Glock purchase.
Sootch thank you for giving a positive review on this gun because I think they just fine tuned something they made right the first time.
the barrel is actually to make it easier to match the bullet to the gun
If it had finger grooves it would be the perfect gun for me
Glock= the iPhone of the firearm world
Jake Schmidt Honda Civic is a better comparison
Jake Schmidt bullshit... a iPhone is a good expensive top shelf phone... glock is a glock.. its a Honda civic.
iTheGeek but they put the dumb ass finger grooves on there in the first place to try to be special. They don't get much credit for then taking off their mistake.
You get what you pay for.
Best comment of 2017
Best gen 5 review I've seen yet. Thanks
Ok this is 4yrs old...my Gen 5 19 ( purchased 9/21) did have the front serrations. Also my slide in sunlight almost has a burnt bronze tone...very cool.
Nice review as always. Call me old school, but I'm sticking with my Gen 3's. They've never failed me.
I'm good with my G19 Gen4
peter yuan Same, I bought my gen 4 last December and I have no intention of getting the gen 5.
Same here. Ive had my gen 4 for a couple years now and no problems. However i picked up a 320C not long ago and i love it
Im a gen3 type of guy
Joshua Channell I agree, gen 3 was wear its at
I hear you, but I’ll buy a gen5 too
I got the G19 gen 5 right away because of some good things out of the box with it. I like how they simplified the trigger group and how it has an ambi slide release. I also like how easy it is to completely disassemble it completely. The biggest thing I liked is how they got rid of the finger grooves and went with a straight frame grip. It made everything really nice and my favorite pistol.
The finger grooves just don't fit my fingers. Glad I now have an option.
I like the look of the Glock 5 for some reason. It sort of grows on me.
There is no Glock 5
Greetings from Germany and thanks for your videos! I love my Glocks and this will be my next, just ordered :)
First time glock owner. Glock 19 gen 5. It has a crisp trigger and a surprisingly good reset if inwere to go by all the reviews. I did change the sights to steel glock night sights. I shoot this gun well.
Crisp trigger? That Glock trigger is absolute garbage when compared to pistols in the same price market like Walther or Canik
@@peterw3544 I own 2 caniks and agree it isn't as nice as they are. However, it is head and shoulders above gen 3
@Peter W I concede that isn't the same quality as pdp or canik. However, compared to previous glock generations it is much better.
Love my Glocks.. Will pick one of these up.
I knew the barrel on this gun was different the minute I took it apart and looked down it lol no other outside info needed
My first handgun is a G19 Gen5. I didn't like the finger grooves on the Gen4, and didn't know what a Gen3 was. As far as I am concerned, the Gen5 is a Glock, and it doesn't get any better in the Glock line. I like it better than other guns I tried.
I just saw some gen 5 Glocks in a gun store today - so I bought a CZ 75 B.
lol, agreed. I'm not impressed with the Gen5
The CZ75 B is an excellent choice : )
LOL
capq57 haha
Love the cz75 platform. Even most of the clones.
But I thought gen 1, 2, 3, and 4 were already perfection?
Loyal Royalty I like the 5 more than gen 3 or 4 but I still like the HK’s better if I want a plastic gun.
Check out the G45!!!!! Smooooth.
kwik2hear G45/19x are just stupid.
Hughes Enterprises but you can use the same holsters which is a nice plus if you decide to carry a g17 capacity
Zach M They make baseplates for G19 mags that’ll get you more capacity than a G17 with the same length mag.
Thanks for the enthusiastic review, I am personally underwhelmed with the Gen 5 but that's just me. It just seems like this model was rushed in design. I wished they waited another year and got everything sorted out properly. Thanks again-
Thanks for watching Brother! It does seem a little rushed considering the frame and sight.
The Sig P320 does a good job of this.
maybe introduce new guns in colors such as grey or OD in addition to boring black?
Ski Fall olive drab and flat dark earth will hopefully come out later, but I agree, something other than black would be nice!
MOS has front serrations, and also got rid of the crappy half-moon cutout.
The Sights! That is the third review Ihave seen with the Alignment off ! How strange !
Definitely weird. It was the first thing I checked when I picked it up and just laughed.
Seen one in my local shop like that. There must be a lot out there.
Thanks Robert. I appreciate your comment. It's a solid advancement in the Glock Line.
I love my g17 gen. 5. I love the ambidextrous slide release, the trigger, and all the little things. I wish they would do that to the 21 in 45!
Thank you for your honest review.
Thanks for watching!
sootch00 Quick question subscriber count exploded. lately I've noticed on all UA-cam gun channels when I looked at their subscriber count is just through the roof all of a sudden and I like how you pointed out that cut in the mag well was sharp I was wondering about that when I looked at it the first time
Taylor McKay that wasn't quick nor was it a question.
Skates82 it's also piggy backed on someone elses comment just because He (sooch) replyed to it. I can't stand when people do that shit.
I appreciate your knowledge and perspectives
i would have liked to see a change in the slide serrations , making them alittle more aggressive
Just switched to a Glock 19 gen 5 from my 1911 and I love it! It’s taking some time getting use to no manual safety but it’s just making me be more cautious and safe with my new firearm. Love it!
Lol how the scalloped slide doesn't match up with the frame up front! Come on Glock
MoreAmerican Preach.
Seems pretty simple doesn't it.
Hector Defendi They'll do what Glock always does. Fix it in the next generation, 5 years from now.
It shows a huge lack of attention to detail.
Sticking with gen 4. Thanks though!
Excellent choice. Love the finger grooves in the grip.
Me to I love my gen 4 glock 17
This is my first gun after 48 years of pushing off buying one. Got lucky at a Cabella's. It feels so right in my hand and not at all intimidating to shoot. Great Vid.
So funny when people get so worked up over why people like glocks. It's a handgun that will go bang EVERYTIME you squeeze the trigger provided you don't modify it.PLAIN AND SIMPLE its a gun that functions everytime
Now come to my channel and watch my 19 rip
Almost at the start of the video he said he would replace the trigger and most people will want to replace the sights.
Got to love the sound of steel targets.
I really like the smooth lines of the Gen 5...and the internal mods seem well thought out...
Why do you love old, ugly, out dated glocks.
Because they are reliable, accurate, and parts are numerous . They are not the only guns on the market, but mine are just cool.
Austria small country and have big guns maybe the best in the world ....
What makes a nation isn't lines on a map. It's their blood (genealogy) and shared identity and culture
Still fine with my gen1/gen3 hybrid G17
Just picked up my Gen 5 19 ordered with factory night sights and found the the front angle of the frame now matches the front angles of the slide, just like the 19x.
good overview !
Thanks Mike! So was yours my friend.

I'm still waiting for the GLOCK 7
all porcelan, doesn't show up on metal detectors...costs more than i make in a month.
You'd be surprised what I make in a month.
Benjamin Maynard Ha ha I think you missed the joke. Have you ever seen Die Hard?

I appreciate your review. I never cared for the Glock until now. I love the fact the slide release is ambidextrous. I'm in the process of finding the best price and getting my first Glock!
redmac78
If you want a true ambi gun look at FN FNS series or FN 509, not to take away from the Glock.
Thanks redmac! One of my best buds swore off Glocks for years and bought one last year....now is on his third! Lol!
the experience i really have with the Glock guns is the 40 cal sub compact and mid size.
The P10c is fully ambidextrous out of the box
ภึ
HURTS my pinky finger.
I wish that there wasn’t a recess where you grip your pinky finger. Not comfortable but it looks like they went with safety over comfort.
I recently picked one up. I guess you could say its the Gen 5.5, no cut out and it has front serrations. I really like the improvements made.
Very nice pistol. Love my Glocks.
Thanks for watching!

That's because you haven't shot a PPQ
Sootch my friend! I hope you're doing well. I'm happy to say, that I'm finally escaping the clutches of Communist California, and will be heading to a free state, North Carolina. I sincerely look forward to updating my entire handgun inventory, and will be adding numerous Glock Gen 5s to my gun safes. Thank you my friend, for another excellent video! Cheers!
Glad to hear you're coming back to the land of the free! NC is a excellent place to live! Wish you an easy move brother! Thanks
PoppaBear good luck! Feels great to get out CA but moving sucks.
I picked up a 19 Gen 5 today. Very excited to try it out tomorrow at the range. Great video, sootch.
2:00 Some of the brass is going up and coming right back down on top of the pistol. Just like old glocks.
yup. it happened in the 90s when they switched to MIM extractors from the Tool steel ones of olden times. It's plagued the gen 3 and gen 4 glocks for almost 20+ years. I noticed that ejection the second I saw the video. /smh
The evolution of this pistol makes it the best combat pistol ever made in my mind.
Beretta is the best pistol
@@Iamalemonwhy No it isn’t.
@@oleboy7615 it... is
@@Iamalemonwhy Yeah, that’s why it’s still being used by so many over the Glock. Get real.
@@oleboy7615 hype dont equal good guns.... ar15 is so famous but scar 16 shoots better
Front serrations, 5.5 lb trigger, better molding on the frame, steel night sights, at least a brown or gray version, might pick one up for xmas
Just bought one 👍
This is definitely one of my favorite videos of going over the gen. 5 Glock 19 so far. Very informative, detailed, and great video quality. Keep up the great work, sootch00.
I’ve seen other people who did reviews on same handgun, but hands down without a doubt ur review is absolutely the best, just like all the reviews you did
Sootch u r the best!
nice review too bad we won't ever see these for sale to civilians in California :(
Thanks John, I hate what you guys have to deal with.
John Countryman don't you have to have like a screwdriver to take out the magazine on a AR there
YESSS, they suck :(
John Countryman unbelievable. Why are there gun laws so stupid? Can't even get beretta nano and ruger lcp have to have a loaded chamber indicator
Just move to Arizona.
Sootch looks like he was born with that handlebar mustache
Lol
obatron-one
As a lefty I always wished Glock would release a version with ambi controls but after owning 2 gen 4's for a long time I'm used to just sling shotting the slide.
Yep
im sure the GLOCK GEN 1 is just as reliable.
"there are a lot of new upgrades!!!" *talks about finger grooves for 20 minutes
Nice review. Used to have a 22. Have a 35 now for fun. I liked them FOR the finger grooves. Wonder what generation they’ll decide to have finger groove or regular straps that can be interchanged like the back straps? I wonder why they don’t just come with night sights by now.
Thanks for the video, My 2022 G19 gen 5 has the front strap lower grip section filled in and the dust cover under the front of the barrel is now matching. Been usin Glocks since the 80s ,Good pistol.
