Bro, by far, you have the best studio set up I’ve ever seen. You could talk about anything you want that’s going on in the world; especially with the background like that.
This is how you can differentiate between someone who is amateur and a professional. Having dynamic shots rarely gets talked about but it's so important. If you study the great filmmakers you'll quickly realize their shots are full of dynamism, which is something I love about David Fincher's movies. Every single shot is packed with audiovisual stimuli. Even when the main character is doing something mundane like sitting on a plane or sleeping, there's a rumble from the train and everything shakes, or there's a bright light and loud sounds. Movement can make a shot look more cinematic without a doubt.
And more often than now, less is more. A static shot can often be just as powerful.
@@itsjantore Agree, and sometimes movement is distracting.
Agreed 👌🏻 A static frame still a form of camera movement imo
Man, you are putting words to things that I have been looking for so long. Thank you for that, and great job with Mazda!
Great points throughout. The Episode was very immersive to watch, I really enjoyed it!
This is great dude, always nice to have a solid refresher on this knowledge!
Superb James, a masterclass from a master of the trade 👏
Great video James, I like the way you explain when shooting handled and with a gimbal. I really enjoy it!
Love this James! Well done on the client work!
that globe behind you looks inspirational aswell!
Such an amazing film! Always nailing it!
Thanks mate!
That's why I never miss a video of this mate
Thanks boss
Great work mate, keep it coming!
As a noob, I find this very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you for this beautiful video! Great insight!
I like that it is a bit darker favoring the softer highlights and mid tones. Was that your choice? Wonderful assignment!!!
One of my favorites I sometimes use is the movement of the object direction in one clip to the next clip, the camera takes a new position in space for the next clip, the camera doesn’t have to move necessarily but could.
Thanks mate! Yes, was my decision. I wanted it to have mystery with the darker vibe and also yellowish highlights to make it look a touch more 'dated' and earthy vibe to it. Completely agree with the object direction too!
Well explained James 🦾🎬
Here he is, thanks brother!
Love this mate 👌
Great explanations and great video! Thanks.
This is the dream of every creator! To capture such niche moements! Great video James!
My guy is BACK!
Hey Brother!
First video I've caught of yours fella. Great insight and value, and I have a hell of a lot of time for the 'bosh' at the end 😂🇬🇧
Lovely stuff 😆👌🏻 See you around mate
Great video! Did you use much lighting when creating the mazda video? Looked very natural
No, all natural lighting except for the interview of course which had a 3 light set up 👌🏻
such great work!!!!!! amazing
Awesome job dude!
How does the focal length impact whether you are in the scene or observing ?
well done!
Listen a James he is a good man 😎
okay he's back on youtube
Back Back
Yes! Back 2 the basics!
Yes. UA-camrs overlook! Movie makers don't! :D
With slomo handheld looks very good in my opinion otherwise I use a gimbal 😉
Good video ❤❤❤😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉
What filter do you use to get this awesome non digital look?
I didn’t use a filter on this production mate!
This HDMI cable makes me feel very uncomfortable.

I’m never this early
Beautiful! An amateur here, but two things struck me: both your talking head video and mazda project (indoor, outdoor, car shots) are graded very dark, almost low key. IMO it's too much - outside of the gorgeous blue/yellow classic interiors. Two: all of the handheld/gimbal shots presented are stomach or waist level, and car trailing is exclusively ground-level - again, too uniform, too much, doesn't present the hero in it's full glory. Watched the Mazda Discovers episode and it's more diverse and engaging. But that's your style and artistic choice so all is good.
Second! Great video
watch it first
Brain rot
First!
Camera movement isn't possible when you shoot alone 🙂↕️🫡🙂
It’s easier alone. With a crew, you’re restricted to working with every department’s issues. When you shoot alone, you can move the camera even if it’s only pan and tilt. With the stability of modern cameras you can make a handheld push look like a dolly shot. I’ve shot thousands of scenes alone and love not having anyone else around. Cameras used to be massive and unwieldy. You can now shoot 8K with a camera that is easy to hold in one hand.
