- Thanks for checking out todays video, where we literally pour thousands of dollars into the abandoned racetrack by crack filling, and sealcoating a ton of the driving surface.
We worked with H&H Sealcoating, and they did a good job overall.
I also go over attending the "Hangar Throwdown 2" in Bemidji, MN. This is a no-prep style drag race at a private airport.

I'm watching this from Oulu, Finland. Fun fact: there is actually a town called Oulu in Wisconsin 30 miles from your track. The town got its name in the late 1800s when a lot of Finns immigrated there from the city I live in. They moved there to work for the lumber industry and they gave a familiar name to their new town. There are actually a lot of other places too in Minnesota and Michigan that are named after Finnish towns and cities the same way as Oulu, Wisconsin is.

It's one thing when you're a racer...you take necessary precautions to protect your own life and hopefully you understand the risks. When you are a spectator, you assume the track will have safety measures put in place to prevent spectator injuries. Even right off the start, if a car goes into the grass, it's barely going to slow down until it starts hitting "stuff". They need to bring in K-Rails at minimum, to separate the track from the spectator seating areas.
Been watching since day one here in Britain 🇬🇧 We've lost so many short oval tracks here. It's great to see one being brought back to life @BriSCA

My name is Andreas from a small town (165 people) called Liedertswil in Switzerland watching you for quite some time now :-) came for the f-body content and now enjoying your race track videos. As race tracks were banned in Switzerland (because of the LeMans accident ages ago) we do not have any tracks anymore :-( The nearest track is a private track in France, around 90-120mins from here but as said is a private track. The next bigger open tracks are Dijon or Hockenheim. We have some nice hill climb races and some auto cross but it is getting harder and harder every year to get the approval for such stuff because of this green and leftist idiots we have here in Europe.... On most racetracks you cannot go over 100dB for example, some it is even less. Makes it really hard for your older cars to pass these limits. Mine was constantly over it, got kicked out from Hockenheim :-( because I had 103dB.
So please enjoy what you have there. You're private paradise to enjoy. I know it is hard work to maintain such stuff, be it from a human resource or from a financial point of view but it is worth it! I wish we could have land that cheap here (On some regions here the 1m3 costs CHF1500.00 -2500.00 upwards and you just have the land without any permits to do something on it) Let alone that you never can build something like this here anyways without having the police the next hour on the land stopping it haha.

I am watching since day one of this journey. I am from Cyprus, and I get a bit jealous of the community you guys have there in the US. Much love and good job with this track. You could also use the asphalt track for kart racing. put some tyre walls to form a ''new'' layout for karting. Clay is too much work and it's not worth it in my opinion.

So much cracking, looks like they might have skipped some steps when they built it the first time. Good work getting it up to scratch, its expensive stuff to own a race track! /Sweden
They didn't really skip any steps the first time. Asphalt deteriorates with age, and use. This is all normal wear no different than a driveway that's 13ish years old.
Especially considering some of the heavy equipment and trailers that have been regularly hauled over it.

I always love to see some progress on the track. I'm watching from Kołobrzeg, Poland 🇵🇱! We have some old post-german/post-soviet abandoned airstrips here which are used as drift tracks but not many are getting some maintenance :/
Interesting. Here in the United States many SCCA clubs run on old airstrips/airfields from a similar Era.
They lend themselves very well to autocrossing, which is cool.

I can’t believe how long that asphalt has lasted already. In 12 years we’ve had to have our asphalt driveway redone three times and are past due for a fourth. Our roads here in Oklahoma are the same way, 3-5 years and it gets torn up and resurfaced. We tried the seal coat but it didn’t seem to last any longer.
We do get a very large amount of temp swings below freezing at night and above during the day so the heaving is amplified compared to places up north that are frozen most of the winter.

You sir are doing a fantastic job in resurrecting a track that has seen many years of abandonment and neglect. While it would be awesome to see the paves track extended beyond the kart track and into the banked section right at the back of the property to make a reasonably long fast track that could potentially host more events, both autocross and maybe drifting. I know that would be a huge project and many many thousands of dollars.
Though I will admit watching from the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 makes me miss being over in the US. Having not visited in 10 years.
With all the news lately of tracks closing etc. It's encouraging to see you bringing the track back to life for your local racing community.
I lost my local track early last year after being in operation over sixty years.

Great stuff on keeping that track together. Crack sealing will help preserve the asphalt from cracking more. Not to sound like a salesman but have you looked at other crack sealing products? I’ve used a product called Mastic one by Crafco, we used it here in Canada and has held together and performed excellent on a major arterial road. Might be cost prohibitive but might want to have a look. I’m all about pavement preservation, it’s my day job
If the drag racing introduction is a hint of what’s to come, you’re going to resurrect the Apollo….. a track that hasn’t been seen in 47 years. Hope I don’t jinx it but, how can a car guy not be excited about that
i've watched every episode about the track...watching from southeastern connecticut... we still have 3 circle race tracks in our small state operating on a weekly basis, including the nationally known Stafford speedway

You can't seal new Asphalt until it has cured. The heat transfer oil has to evaporate which takes a month or two. Otherwise the sealer will just peel off immediately.
We didn't seal the "new" section. You are absolutely correct.

Is it good practice to seal coat over rubber that’s on the surface? Genuine question, I am no expert but I would think when the rubber lifts the coating would come off with it?
We have a new 330-foot street legal dragway opening here in southern California, how long is your property?
About 1,900' deep. 330' racing is interesting.
There was a 1/8th mile drag strip on this same property back in the early 1970s.
This CA track is way too short… fast cars will never want to run just 330
