btw your wood forming isn't right, you're suppose to keep the wood hot and soaked when your form it. But the way you're forming it would also trap the moister. Instead use a framing tac nails where your screw will go and pin the wood in shape while it's hot. you can keep the sides hot by draping a towel or old blanket over it that is soaked in boiling water. When you're done letting the wood cool, you can pull your tac nails out and use the holes they've created as pilot holes for your screws. Just be sure to take the wood off so the wood can dry again after it's formed.
I once met a guy who had converted his Scion xB into a sleeper with a little counter n sink with a bed too. The only thing that looked different from the outside were the two pvc tube tanks for water (4"x48")

Good point on streamlining. However, the speed and overall quality in how this was made are impressive. Maybe they or someone can make an improved version of this, which can allow for two people to sleep. Basically a slightly larger version with some improvements to streamlining and durability, and possibly have a battery storage with a way to add solar panels. .

Great job on the build looks like you thought of everything the only thing I would have done different is you're putting the base together I would use treated wood just because there's going to be a lot of moisture between that metal and the base of the camper so treated wood for the base would really help with all that moisture
I picked up a dual jet ski trailer and have made interchangeable beds: 2 kayaks, foldable clamshell rowboat/enclosed trailer, dump trailer/flat bed and I pull it with my Prius.
FYI, I use the $95 biggest oak plywood I can find at Lowes and use it for table tops and it is super strong, so far no cracking. My biggest table top is a full sheet, 8x4 for a huge workbench and I do walk on it, 285 pounds.
One small issue I see is that the doorway has no weather buffer area so if you've gotta climb in during a downpour, you're getting your bed and sheets wet. Not a major issue if you've dealt with worse, but certainly not ideal. I'm quite familiar with sleeping under wet blankets and it's NOT a fun way to wake up, particularly if you don't have a hot shower to get your body temp back up quickly.
The one thing you should really consider is to waterproof the bottom, the rot will start there and everywhere you screwed into the side for power or signal lighting needs caulking to prevent water penetration. I used to build tiny homes and a lot of people miss these things or don't consider it but those areas will be the first to go when it starts to rot.
That’s Awesome it feels so satisfying to see another one of these more luxurious mini campers after the first one you guys built for your bike didn’t work this is super Dope.
Nice. Mostly great, just a couple nitpicks. The standard in North America is to have the door on the curb side of the trailer. If you're parked on a busy street, it will be harder to safely access the interior of the trailer. Consider making the outside kitchen smaller and portable so it can be taken off and stashed inside the trailer or tow vehicle. If you used 120v wiring, I hope you left your junction boxes accessible. There's a few more, but I'll leave it at that. It is a noticable improvement from your $1000 trailer video. I look forward to seeing what you do next.
Epic! Watch out for expansion on the wood under the bedliner. It will cause cracking. I know because I did the same thing and even had epoxy! Just inspect once in awhile and you should be good!
@@ChayDenne certainly could. Or even use any other urethane-based product sealer. Apparently, epoxy and urethane products bond so you could do that too.
This is very cool! I would suggest a couple tiny add-ons, like a couple pocket nets on the wall to store small or thin items you might want on hand, and a small bendable reading lamp to clipped on the shelf or mounted on the wall if those little ceiling lights aren't enough. I'm guessing a skylight wouldn't be helpful as it would let heat escape. Also wondering about a small fan to keep air moving in warm weather. My only questions are, because this is so lightweight, hw does the fold-out kitchen not put the whole thing off-balance? And where does the water from the sink go? Does it just empty out onto the ground?
Awesome camper! One thing that can be improved is aerodynamics. I recommend putting the kitchen on the back of the camper, as how it is mounted on the side is a big brick, and it will likely hurt the aerodynamics a lot. By mounting it on the back it might help a lot with the MPG of the car towing it.
I absolutely love this! 2 things I would add: 1. Solar panels & battery in the event there is no power, this is a personal touch I would add. 2. You can get a computer slightly bigger than what a USB stick would be for a few hundred dollars, do with that what you would like. I like the TV since not only is it Roku and you have apps, but I think you could also download movies/TV shows depending on the app? (If I'm mistaken, refer to my computer USB stick) You can also attach a Switch or something to play video games too. I would love something like this!
Cool build! But why would you restrict access to the ports of your tv? And, do your feet actually fit underneath the shelf? Oh and last thing, shouldn't you have sealed the outside floor panel as well since rain will get up there while driving?
I love that. One thing I recommend is to get a portable power station so you can power the trailer from the inside. My personal recommendation would be the EcoFlow River 2. I have one myself, and it fits nicely on my nightstand.

Great job, but I have some advice. Transformers need air circulation to cool down. the same ones are surrounded with flammable isolation, and it is a better option to use stone wool instead due to the fact it is fireproof. Nice DIV!
A side or roof vent would be perfect for airflow when the humidity creeps up. Great video though! Im sure its a great step 1 for all of us that want to make something similar one day.
Looks both cozy and comfy. When you really think about it, all you really need is a place to sleep, watch a little TV, or videos, and make some food... Looks like it covers all those needs to me... Thumbs Up!
Bravo, Chay! It’s always a treat to see what you and your brother cook up. You give me a lot of inspiration for future projects with my son! Keep up the great work. that means a ton coming from a dad with his son! thank you for sharing. Growing up, my dad gave Colby and I the best memories building projects with us in the garage, your son will definitely appreciate your time together
Nice but I would have spent $22 more with pressure treated lumber underneath. This will be rotted in a year. I suppose you can then do a complete off frame restoration video next.

Turned out really neat! I would have liked to add an additional window on the other side of the bed (make it small enough to fit next to the outdoor kitchen), so I could have cross breeze ventilation. Also an addition of a skylight to make the sleeping area feel larger and airy.
Great idea. I built myself a one man camper a few years back, took it everywhere, Including Europe. Sold it on and as far as I know the lad that bought is still using it .

Sure wish I had your skills and talents!! Do you sell plans to build it????? That is something I could haul with my Corolla! Thanks for sharing! Great build!
Amazing! I love your micro camper! It's so cute and tiny, it would be useful for camping! Two questions though: 1. Why didný you insulate the walls? Only insolating the roof is not the most efficient thing. I'm sure you could've made the micro camper a little bit wider so there would still be space for the insulation. 2. Why not let the kitchen be access from inside the micro camper? I do love the folding kitchen idea though, but still I am worried that would break off too easily even with the reinforcements you did.
I'd have added curtains/blinds or something to the window and door, else you're getting woken up at dawn. Plus lockable catches for the fold-down bit (and the power socket inside the fold down bit as someone was already suggested) otherwise, that's a pretty cool mini camper
There are a lot of companies now that are making these little micro camper type things. Some are so light that they can be pulled quite easily with a bicycle. It's pretty cool if you the type of person that just wants to jump in a bike and ride somewhere or take a long distance trip.
The music is like a choir of angels singing a song about the beauty of what they see. And the song changes every 5 min approximately and each song is so beautiful it brings a peace to me I’ve not felt in many years. This type of peace brings tears to your eyes. Makes you grateful for the life you live and overrides all negatively. I’m at 29 minutes in and the music is heavenly.
fold-down kitchen is what i was thinking. instead of plywood interior, have you considered shower panels? there's a premium sheet that's about 1/8" thick, and a thinner sheet that's closer to 1/16" thick. rooftop solar? batteries in the floor? foam insulation on the walls? but yes, as others have said, bedliner the underside too. and yes, there's WHITE bedliner, probably other colors too.
oh wow! ill have to check out those panels! 1/16th would be awesome so far, winter camping in there has been great with no wall insulation, that being said, in the summertime i bet we will need it thanks for the advice!
@@ChayDenne actually i have a project going with this stuff (but no channel, yet)... it's called polywall at lowe's. label says "protects walls from moisture and abuse." should easily glue up to the underside of your stringers, very flexible too so don't have to kerf around tight bends.
Awesome! Wish I could live in a tiny camper. Can’t afford one. Or a car. Disabled, poor, and broke. I love living vicariously through others like you. ❤
A first build like this is kind of a prototype - some good ideas on how to improve it but I think it is really well-done. Certainly useful for nearby camping. I would like to know final budget for supplies (not decorations). Have you posted that somewhere
Cool build! But while the top of the camper is insulated, what about the sides and underneath the bed. Since the camper doesn't have heat, what do you do if it's REALLY cold? But if you're exclusively using it in the summer, it might not be too bad. I would recommend a little fan that could be mounted to the ceiling or wall for air flow. I also agree about waterproofing the undercarriage. I'm not trying to pee in your cornflakes, just something to think about.
Very nice. Now, can you please make a similar camper that allow the sleeping of two to three people? ---- Just an idea for basically a slightly larger version with some improvements to streamlining and durability, and possibly have a battery storage with a way to add solar panels.
Probably gonna want that tv higher for ezier viewing from laying down..with it low as it is you will need your head up to see in a comfortable position.. your feet can't sit up under it and that will get bothersome too
At 05:00 it dawned on me.I have seen this technique before.... It's how you build old school R/C airplanes....or small boats or canoes.....even small homebuilt experimental aircraft... You could use foam sheets and glass the outer shell like how they build funny car bodies tò fit over rail car dragsters..strong but light.. Anyway ..great video..... Keep it rolling... 😊
After seeing this one I can see the changes I would make . One I have a long torso instead of my legs so I would put my head on the other end and I wouldn’t worry about a television. I would just watch my laptop or my phone but I’m not much of a TV person. They really need to make that truck bedliner with color, but that was genius. The other thing I would do so I don’t have to worry about electricity is I would’ve just got a propane stove they’re about $30 at Walmart. You’re gonna have your car anyway so you could’ve stored it in there, but a full down table would’ve been sweet. There’s really helps us all get ideas and as we see how it would work better for us now we can change it. You guys are genius.
What a great build! I think that I would have painted the bottom with that truck bed liner stuff to protect it from road spray. What did it cost to build?
Great video but I’m wondering what you used for power, did you just run it from the car ? Really like the camper though because I’m looking to make something to tow behind my harley
Next time mount the sink w'the faucet set on the end and then allow the kitchen to be tilted down w/a canopy good for inside and outside and then have access from the inside too for those rainy days!
I did this in 2015. I put the axle on top of the spring to lower the height and welded the awkward joints. I have replaced 3 or 4 wheel bearings, but I have put around 20,000 miles on it.
Also mine is closer to 1,000 lbs and I load it with another 3 or 400 probably for camping. Definitely pushing the 1700 lb weight capacity at times. But I pulled it from Washington State to death valley, all around the west coast. Go harbor freight.
the exposed untreated wood on the BOTTOM of the camper will get wet and decay. HF trailers need to be assembled with Locktite to keep the bolts from loosening, and I've read the wheel bearings are a weak point. keeping them lubed is critical. a ceiling vent / fan would be wise,to help with air flow, especially in warm weather.
I don’t care about campers I just see a first gen toyota prius in your thumbnail I give you a like just keep this car running. I hope this little quirky car gives you back the love you give it.
Cool build but I would definitely water proof the bottom as well if you plan on driving in the rain 🌧️

btw your wood forming isn't right, you're suppose to keep the wood hot and soaked when your form it.
Just be sure to take the wood off so the wood can dry again after it's formed.
this was probably one of the best minimalist/functional camper builds ive ever seen.

Amazing job, look into a solar panel and you 1000000% need some blinds and curtains for the window and door for when you go to sleep.
I like the simplistic nature of this teardrop coffin build.
What I was thinking! Id be extremely claustrophobic.
@@Veroveren Having my head at the SMALL,low end of the trailer would be claustrophobic. Plus harder getting out fast if you need to. But then you can't watch TV....who watches TV when they're CAMPING? the whole idea is to escape civilization. I suppose he could have a fold-down TV mount on the ceiling at the low end,so he could watch TV.
I feel like the only problem with this is that someone could just pick up your camper and walk away with it
Yeah, so the solution to that, is while the person is "walking away with it" you sit and cry and cry a puddle for one time they said that I was not enough to be a big baby. Just like MR. BEAST. HE

That's pretty cool. I think the fold down kitchen on the back might be better aerodynamics. And maybe an awning above the kitchen.
Good point on streamlining. However, the speed and overall quality in how this was made are impressive. Maybe they or someone can make an improved version of this, which can allow for two people to sleep. Basically a slightly larger version with some improvements to streamlining and durability, and possibly have a battery storage with a way to add solar panels. .
I would put a gally on my minivan or SUV. My wife could not sleep in one of these tear drop trailers so this would be good for me. My wife can Sleep in the mini van. 73

@@HaroutBlackdid Jesus have a mini camper?
Great job on the build looks like you thought of everything the only thing I would have done different is you're putting the base together I would use treated wood just because there's going to be a lot of moisture between that metal and the base of the camper so treated wood for the base would really help with all that moisture
I picked up a dual jet ski trailer and have made interchangeable beds: 2 kayaks, foldable clamshell rowboat/enclosed trailer, dump trailer/flat bed and I pull it with my Prius.
What a really cool idea and build. I love the simplicity of this camper.
thank you! thats what i love about it as well
FYI, I use the $95 biggest oak plywood I can find at Lowes and use it for table tops and it is super strong, so far no cracking.
Unfortunately it won’t last very long with the plywood being soaked.
He painted it with truck-bed liner paint, which is waterproof.
@@susanr.562 Not the underside, which will definetly start desintegrating after getting wet and damaged from rocks and stuff while driving.
@@brokestudent8548 Ohh.Missed that.
@@brokestudent8548 I would like to think they used treated plywood, but even that isn't a guaranty
Just inspect once in awhile and you should be good!
thats a good thought, if it were to crack, what should we do you think? re-apply?
The big brick on the side is a huge boost to aerodynamics, as long as you are using the term correctly.
Or make an angle to the front end of it. Probably pretty negligible mph effect anyway
I absolutely love this! 2 things I would add:
I have one myself, and it fits nicely on my nightstand.
you feel sooooooooo good and proud once you see it working, and thats the bonus of hard hand work❤

Nice DIV!
A side or roof vent would be perfect for airflow when the humidity creeps up. Great video though! Im sure its a great step 1 for all of us that want to make something similar one day.

This is such a cool video, you should take it camping and make a camping video with you using it to survive the weeknd.

I would have liked to add an additional window on the other side of the bed (make it small enough to fit next to the outdoor kitchen), so I could have cross breeze ventilation. Also an addition of a skylight to make the sleeping area feel larger and airy.
Should of installed some flexible solar on the roof and put a spot for a Jackery (or other powerbank), overall very impressive, came out really good!

Amazing! I love your micro camper! It's so cute and tiny, it would be useful for camping!
Two questions though:
I lived in a van for several years. Pull the back seats out, put in a cot. It was great and easy, took 30 minutes to convert.
Y’all should sell these small campers
You guys did an awesome job! very proud of you that you can create such craftsmanship. Good luck in everything you do.
Nice concept. But with the materials used and how flimsy the side walls are, I bet anything inside would soon belong to others.
There are a lot of companies now that are making these little micro camper type things. Some are so light that they can be pulled quite easily with a bicycle. It's pretty cool if you the type of person that just wants to jump in a bike and ride somewhere or take a long distance trip.
Lovin' the camper.. top job. diminished only slightly by the caved-in front end of that thing towing it.
The spray foam urethane (Great Stuff) attracks water and will turn to mush over time. There are two component pourable foams.
This build has given me tons of ideas. Thanks for showing the process!
Cool wee thing but the bit when you see him lying down in it (all I could think was, You wouldn't exactly have to costraphobic would you)
fold-down kitchen is what i was thinking.
instead of plywood interior, have you considered shower panels? there's a premium sheet that's about 1/8" thick, and a thinner sheet that's closer to 1/16" thick.
rooftop solar?
batteries in the floor?
foam insulation on the walls?
but yes, as others have said, bedliner the underside too. and yes, there's WHITE bedliner, probably other colors too.
oh wow! ill have to check out those panels! 1/16th would be awesome
so far, winter camping in there has been great with no wall insulation, that being said, in the summertime i bet we will need it
thanks for the advice!
@@ChayDenne actually i have a project going with this stuff (but no channel, yet)... it's called polywall at lowe's. label says "protects walls from moisture and abuse." should easily glue up to the underside of your stringers, very flexible too so don't have to kerf around tight bends.
I've actually seen people use those shower panels on the exterior of their micro campers.
Awesome! Wish I could live in a tiny camper. Can’t afford one. Or a car. Disabled, poor, and broke. I love living vicariously through others like you. ❤
Did I miss the bit where you installed insulation in the walls. A roof vent would have been nice.
A first build like this is kind of a prototype - some good ideas on how to improve it but I think it is really well-done. Certainly useful for nearby camping. I would like to know final budget for supplies (not decorations). Have you posted that somewhere
While you're inside, someone could punch his fist through the wall, grab your throat, and pull you out through the wall like in a Jason movie.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you fried
Looks like a portable Japanese capsule hotel pod!!! :D
🤓
Yall always build the cleanest items! Absolutely incredible every time!
Cool build. The quotation on your wall is from the Dhammapada, a collection of sayings by the Buddha.

Looks great..... I'm looking to build a two person camper.... nice design.
Fun to watch, and great job! The fold out kitchen was a surprise. Makes me wanna go build something! But for all of our safety, I won’t. lol.
Factory bought RV’s don’t last long before rotting away and people here are pointing out things that won’t let this camper last a lifetime. 😂😂
Nice little camper! I love your kitchen setup as well, such a great idea!
Did a great job here on this camper! now use those wired skills you just displayed and fix that unsightly left front fender damage!
Would have been cool to make it somehow off the grid with solar on the roof and a battery system.
We have been looking at buying/building something like this to put on the top of the back of our property to use as a bar and/or kid’s camp house.
the exposed untreated wood on the BOTTOM of the camper will get wet and decay.
