This is legendary, Turn on the bright lights is one of the best albums ever made
Yes.

Nice username bro
Album's shit tho
This album was like my best friend when I was younger. Such a beautiful piece of art.
Same. In high school this album became magical for me, and will always be.
@@user-wl2xl5hm7k I was in middle school when I first got into this album. I had it on repeat for like 2 years along with Lonesome crowded west. These two are still some of my all time favorites even though I stopped listening to them long time ago.
Agreed. Being 13 and feeling like this album was the only thing that understood my feelings is an experience that can never be replicated
38 now, this is still a a flawless album, massively underrated.
Hello, fellow Arab Interpol fan :)
I’ll never forget. It was October of 2002. My band and I had played a local gig and met a couple of
Girls who invited us back to their place . We were hangin out and “Untitled “ came on her music playing. I was hooked right away and said “who is this?” She told me a band called Interpol from NYC. I bought the album the next day and listened to it over and over again. It completely changed the way my band and I wrote songs and gave us a new direction to explore. Of course, we never wrote anything close to the greatness of this album but it was certainly fun . This album brings me back to a time when I was 22. In college. Had a band. And anything seemed possible. Thank You gentlemen. Thank You.
I feel that nostalgia man! God bless!
This is cool, I born in October 2002 and I’ll be 22 this year, TOTBL it’s a huge inspiration for me as a bassist
What happened to your band?
Still one of best album ever from the post punk revival nyc scene
Definately bro
Truth! Is This It started the heyday but they were both equally great and different.
Agreed because Carlos D's bass playing.
Is this it released on 9/11 and was quickly removed from the shelves as fast as they went up. I have to say over time Interpol has been better and more consistent than the Strokes.
@@devilsjointonXis this it was released on july
Dan's guitar during "She broke away, broke away" in Stella was a Diver is one of the cleanest sounds I've ever heard live.
I do not condone this behavior, but this album brings me back to nights in my early 20’s, driving home drunk after a show-all the windows down, salty sea air, and the smell of pluff mud. Such a great memory.
It’s so surreal that after being a fan of Interpol in high school, I’m around the same age as the band is in this documentary. I also moved to NYC last year, and the doc captures the same grittiness and magic that I feel now. It really inspires me to get out there and make some art because in 20 years it’ll mean something to someone.
❤️❤️❤️
@@Elandgol This is mine : Surftons
Do you think what Daniel said at the end, about New Yorkers being too cool and hipster to show emotion at concerts, is true? I'm Canadian so don't know lol.
saw a band called cab ellis in nyc last year and the crowd went fuckin crazy
TOTBL, Script of the Bridge by The Chameleons, and Silent Alarm by Bloc Party kept me alive when I was in high school
Glad you’re alive. I discovered The Chameleons recently. Wish I knew them at that age. And I actually bought those two other albums the same day. Incredible stuff.
SOTB is one of the most underrated albums of all time. It’s criminal.
@@theyellowelevators2040 every early 2000’s alt/indie rock band owes their existence to The Chameleons
I saw you guys on January 18, 2003 in Ithaca, NY at 18 yrs old and then again 20 years later at 39 yrs old in Beacon Theatre, New York, NY December 14, 2023. 50 years from now when I am dead, I will be resting in peace because of your music.
Ah man, so cool to see all 4 together. Seen Interpol twice last month in London with my youngest son. We're so blessed to have them still around making great music. Bravo!
Yeah, i see them 2 times when they came to Paraguay, hoping for a third one.
Interpol is a different animal, like a pure connection between soul, music and universe. It’s not just music, is so much more. So much more… It’s nice to see Carlos, he will be part of this miracle, forever.
True❤
This album changed my life, I'm a drummer and since I heard it and those great performances by Sam my drumming style changed drastically
He's got dat groove
Underrated drummer, his performance is legendary throughout the entire album
I'm 52 and I put Interpol in my all time top 5 bands. They are simply amazing.
Ditto on all of the above.
it was pretty cool hearing Carlos singing backup vocals in NYC!!
💯 he sounds great as a backup vocalist
Twenty years ago and still going.... Making lives so much easier to deal with because of their music. Thank you, Interpol.
This is one of the few albums I've listened to for over a decade that I haven't gotten sick of.
I remember when I was 17 and heard Obstacle 1 on Fuse and stopped dead in my tracks. Since then Paul's been giving away the secrets of my soul. I love this band more than words can say!
Same thing happened to me😂
Dave Grohl had mentioned this album when it came out in an interview and I remember going to Tower Records and it was at one of the listening stations. I of course checked it out since Dave Grohl is NEVER wrong!! I miss those listening stations and discovering new bands just solely based on the album covers.
Loved the listening stations! I actually first listened to TOTBL at the Tower Records store while checking the magazine section and the album playing on their speaker system. I was hooked from the beginning and bought the album that same day.
Dave Grohl has good taste in music. No doubt 'bout it
Tower records listing stations. That brings me back.
Thankful to have been part of that listening station generation too!
@@100sky3 word! Parents want to spend hours at the department 🏬 store? No worries, ima gonna go listen to every new release of the season. See ya at the food court! 😅
So glad to hear precipitate at the end. The 15 version has to be my fav song oat
One the best albums I heard in my life.
It's crazy now seeing a crowd not going absolutely mental for these classic songs, even if it's the first time there heard live but it's crazy not seeing a crowd not going mental for interpol full stop, great video
Saw Interpol this year, not much has changed lol. Stiff people. May just be how they are, they’re still hipsters at heart. Me & my friends went nuts though. How can you not to “Obstacle 1” and “Evil” live? Still wondering lol
@@scottyp8323 ya seen them loads and saw them last before covid cause they haven't come back to ireland since but we do be going nuts aswell the whole crowd infairness. Such a privilege to see them live
This is so good. Thank you for releasing this gift. If there’s any other footage, please release it for us all. Especially for the early days of the band.
there was in the internet before. look for another one from Pitchfork
@@VictorRTN It’s not on YT now, let us know if anyone sees it pop up again
This doc I’m pretty sure comes with the reissue of The Black EP, it was released just a few days ago August 18th. Go to official website
Damn it, I miss Carlos. Well, if John Frusciante is playing again with the Red Hot, maybe there's hope for Carlos to come back lol
I remember being mesmerized by Obstacle 1 at late night, first time airing on the old mtv. Been in love ever since.
Interpol as a whole inspired me to pick up and learn an instrument but Carlos is who inspired me to choose bass as my first instrument.
This album is the biggest inspiration for me in making music. Thanks Interpol. Thank you Carlos for your great influence on me in writing basslines. Hope you read this.
Los vi en Lima, en el 2019, son una banda q en vivo es increíble, suenan como en los discos, respetan al público, interpretan hasta la última nota de la canción y el baterista se merece los aplausos de pie del público.
I remember the first time I heard/saw Interpol. They were opening for Finch, I believe. When they came on, I just wanted it to be fast so it would be over & I could see Finch. Until they started playing... Now, they are one of my favorite bands. Whenever I hear Interpol or see someone wearing merch, I get a strange feeling in my chest. It feels better thn falling in love♡
It’s so cool to see all they’ve come through, all this 20 years, every song that is better than the last one. Seeing them being my actual age in this documentary has touched my heart, I love Interpol, congratulations for 20 years of turn on the bright lights! Loved this documentary
To see Banks' nervous dancing, teenage-smoking... it is a pleasure to have seen Interpol grow into the monumental band they are now... that they have always been.
I was in High School when this album came out and it blew my mind!! Then, I got to see them live for the first time at Weenie Roast 2005 when Antics came out. What a hell of a concert and time.
Legendary status right here..
Favorite band ever and one of those most perfect records to ever exist. Thanks for sharing this documentary. Takes me back!
Turn on the bright lights was one of the most formative albums of my youth and I count myself lucky to have been alive for this sliver of time with it
First saw them opening for the Cure during the Curiosa Tour. Interpol was my NYC soundtrack for many years. Love this band. And what an incredible debut. Single-handedly brought back post-punk.
first picked it up in 2005 and it has forever remained my favourite album. plenty of exceptional content since but TOTBL was something else.
Still, one of my fav debut albums of all time and the main reason I picked up a bass 11 years ago. Hearing Untitled changed my life. Thank you TOTBL!
I can’t believe it’s been 20 years! Holy cow. Obstacle 1 remains my all time favorite song. Turn On The Bright Lights is one of my Top 5 records of all time. I hope young people are still discovering it.
Best band of all time
I love you more than I've ever loved any other band. I'm obsessed ! I want moreeee
crazy how turn on the bright lights is the only album to ever exist 💓💞💘💘💘💜💜💜
I love their style and how the songs are arranged. I know a lot of bands have touched or done this certain style but Interpol just has something in their sound that attracts me to it.
man I'm late to the Interpol world but glad I found them!! really great!!
Still a timeless masterpiece 21 years later 🙌🔥💚
02:19 Paul haciendo soundcheck al micro con "uno, dos, tres" lo mejor del video.
Reconocimiento especial a Carlos D.
Te quiero mucho, Interpol. Su música me ha acompañado desde 2008 durante toda mi adolescencia, juventud y ahora vida adulta. 🖤❤️
So many memories with this songs!
Classic album!! Been listening to Interpol for over 20 years now! Wow still rocking too! Thanks guys for amazing songs
For anyone wondering, the song at 12:10 is Precipitate, a demo song that is actually mi favorite song not only from Interpol, it's my all time favorite song
Potentially the greatest album of the century so far.
I love this band and this album is already a rock classic!
Miss Carlos so much.
*Bar hopping during the NYC music scene in the early aughts must've been awesome.*
Damn, I got this record 20 years ago when I was 14... time flies, indeed. I really miss the Carlos era, but it is what it is. I still remember getting asleep listening to NYC or Stella was a diver and she was always down, such good times.
Straight up epic album from an epic band from an epic time in an epic city!
Too bad it didn't come out on Epic Records 😂
This was a life changing album for me, it was with me while living alone.
The greatest album ever made. More of this content please Interpol ❤️
I was taking photos for a friend of his band in their little garage studio in 2002 when i was 17 and he showed me this new band he had come across and they quickly become a main stay of my MP3 player and phone for the next 20 years, trying to learn of few of the songs also helped me get into learning the guitar more, amazing band! keep it up!
20 years after, and still one of my favourite albums ever.....
They were sooo young. Not many albums have aged as well as this one (Antics is right up there with it). I think I like Paul's voice better now :)
My favorite album... From head to tail, each song is great.
Bright Lights….Incredible…put it against anything. What makes these guys incredible is the layers and different styles. Next level talents.
Love you guys !! I play your music to my one month old baby .
I first heard interpol totbl when I was 13 or so. I was so excited for antics to release…as my taste, style and interests changed over the years I’ve always loved interpol. I listen to mostly r&b, hip hop and 70s soul/disco nowadays but interpol has consistently been my favorite for 20 years now!
Its bittersweet to see the 4 of them nodding in agreement as they are being interviewed together- they were just babies! Carlos D is amazing and I was sad to see him go but I appreciate that Interpol continues to make amazing music to this day. Much love from Texas!
The Scale has to be the best Interpol song to date - Sep 8th, 2023 Just saw them Aug 30th in NY
went to my first Interpol gig 19 years ago when I was 15 and haven’t loved a band as much since x
TOTBL It's part of history. An iconic album. Thank you for so many years, so many moments, so many memories.
When I heard obstacle 1 on TV back in, maybe 2003/2004…. I was like: WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MASTERPIECE! … My only loved band, and I’m 35 now. ❤.
Diosito, gracias por permitirme haber escuchado a Interpol ❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️✨✨✨
danieeel 🥺❤
7:02 love Paul dancing
One of favourite bands of all time with one of my favourite albums of all time. This is brilliant 🥲
Tbh i was never really into music until nyc was playing in the background on mtv2 as i was studying. I remember being so blown away that i stopped studying and wouldn't turn the channel over until it came on again. I then went to HMV and bought my first ever album TOTBL and I waa dancing around my kitchen for the year. I remember feeling electric tingles when i first heard those lines "i will eat the salt off your frost faded lips" To me Interpol has always been more than a band, it was a movement, they have influenced my whole outlook on life. If I ever meet anyone who also happens to like Interpol I cant help but fall in love with them. Interpol are next level music. ❤❤❤
This album got me through a very dark time in my life ❤
Hope you're doing better. I remember it from when I went to Vancouver to be with my first girlfriend. Funny how we associate music with a part of our lives.
This made me so nostalgic for like 10 years ago when I first heard this album. I can only imagine what it's like for people around for the release.
It was an awesome time. Rock was still very mainstream. You found new music from magazines/TV/Radio. There was no download one song only..you had to purchase the whole album. Music went downhill fast by 2010.
That was so cool to watch. Really lovely actually. Ace performances, Untitled was a special one.
Thank you! TOTBL will always have a special place in my heart. ❤
Thanks for the soundtrack of my life Interpol🥲 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I am so grateful for the music they bring to this world, to my life. I knew the band's name but not their music since this year and I am obsessed and so f**** grateful to discover them. There is no time stamp for great music! Great tunes will live forever. Thankful, inspired, in love really. Hope to see and hear them on EU tour soon!
3:36 Carlos doing backing vocals in 'NYC'; I always thought it was Paul's voice in the recording (it might have been his, I'm not quite sure). This footage is enlightening.
❤mi época más feliz ...
Y después de todo sigo escuchandoles fielmente por todo lo que me hacen sentir y me han ayudado con su música .
Happy 20 year anniversary to this incredible album! 💕
I love them so much their music forever changed my life.
I remember when MTV did "You Hear It First" on Interpol, back in the day. Carlos talked about people asking him if he was hot, wearing all black outside in the New York City heat. I went and got Turn On The Bright Lights. I remember I got Sing The Sorrow by AFI the same day. Both albums have awesome red and black covers. Good times.
I still have this album on CD. Such a cool different sound. Obstacle 1 is my favorite song off that album.
Been listening for 20 years and I'm 26.
Not kidding even a little
Thank you for this! What a great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of such a legendary album.
This is great! Love TotBL so much!
Thank you, Interpol. I liked your stuff when i was 16, and at 33, it holds up FLAWLESSLY. I had the great fortune of catching you guys at shaky knees in Atlanta in...2015, i think it was. A joy I won't soon forget 🌹
Interpol?? Threw money down so fast
This album was my best friend when walking alone somewhere in the middle of the night.
And their bright lights shone the most in my darkest times. I love you forever, Interpol.
Turn of The Bright Lights ✨❤️
Joya de Álbum...
Likeeee
This is gold. There’s nothing like early Interpol
Easily my favorite album of all time, obstacle 1 changed my life.
Que gusto ver a Carlos.
do you ever want to marry an album…? this is how turn on the bright lights feels like, and im so happy to see this documentary. such talented musicians
Te quiero un chingo Interpol! TOTBL es mi disco favorito en esto que llamamos vida. No pierdo la esperanza que Carlos Dengler regrese algún día y todo vuelva a ser tan perfecto. Los amo! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🇲🇽🌮
I remember hearing NYC the very first time. It stopped me in my tracks.
Great song from a great album. And they're amazing live
Thanks for sharing this with us! Great to see some live clips.
1:53 That vintage Epiphone though!
I don't know how I first heard Interpol 20 years ago, but I'm very happy that I did
