The year 2024 is speaking here. It still is and always has been The Cure's hottest song. There are many other songs but this one is outstanding. I will never forget the 80s and the beginning of the 90s... it was an amazing time. Puberty, slowly growing up (if you did at all). The rebelliousness you felt inside. You just didn't know exactly what or who you were rebelling against at the beginning. When I close my eyes to this song, I'm back in those moments, which makes this song so amazingly real. It's so cool how this song brings back so many memories. Smoky discos, the smell of teen spirit (literally, not because of the Nirvana song). A bottle of beer in hand and everyone doing the same Cure-style dance. Along with the Sisters of Mercy, The Cure helped me through every depression, relationship drama, stress, heartbreak and all that other fucked up shit. And now, all these decades later, not much has changed. The Cure is literally the cure for such situations. Growing up sucks sometimes.
Oh Sisters of Mercy are a favourite!!! I went into a record shop in Bendigo Australia in 1991 and heard this amazing music over the shop speakers. It was Sisters of Mercy! I fell in love in that shop with their music. And they had to order it in for me from the UK. Still have it. Wish I hade seen The Cure when I had the chance 😢 I’m a bit older than you, AC/DC and Alice Cooper were my teen angst music. But in a good way. I was extremely rebellious and my mum was on Valium because of my behaviour but never crime or drugs. And I actually ended up working for the police here for 15 years. I turned out ok, in spite of my mother thinking I’d end up in prison. 🤣 This performance of this song is fricking amazing to this day!!!!

It's 2024 and this song has NOT aged. In fact, if you don't watch the videos and just listen to anything in The Cure's catalogue you cannot know when these songs were released. That is how good they are. In fact if you listen to the Cure now and listen to Robert Smith sing "A Forest" live, he sounds almost exactly same as he did 40+ years ago and possibly BETTER. Cheers from NYC!!

This is one of my favorite songs by The Cure. They are my favorite band in the world. I was born in 86, but i grew up listening to 80s and classic/heavy metal music. 80s music will always rule!
Hey good music comes from the soul thus making it timeless I'll listen to anything that has some soul in it. No need to restrict based upon time. Which is why mainstream music usually does not have ppl revisiting it in 34 years. Not always but c'mon I'm not about to meditate w/ ice ice baby.
Bar none, the best iteration of the Forest ever. Robert is a musical genius and a once in generation singer. Pure magic. The world is fortunate to have him.
@@johnperkins4611 That's the 1981 version at the Werchter festival. Robert Palmer was up next, and they told them to get off, so they kept playing (and the song ends with the infamous F Robert Palmer, F Rock and Roll from Simon). That is what started the extended versions of the song - but the've had other songs they would do this with. The unreleased song All Mine was an extended jam that changed every time they played it.
I saw this live in Sacramento, May 7th 1992, The Forest was the last song they played in the last encore, it was phukin PHENOMINAL, will never forget it
+Joachim Peiper Neither will I (And I got my tinnitus started on the same tour on one of their venues in Sweden). Still remembering the length of that gig as so great (four hours something).
A timeless charisma! To see « The Cure » is of course to see a group whose great years are far behind. However, it is also seeing a group which despite everything remains at the peak of its charisma. Robert Smith almost still sounds like he did 30 years ago. By sometimes adapting the melodic line he sings, but almost without failing and always being convincing. Seeing this group fabled is always grandiose and unexpected. Thank you Robert and at thy companions road for all these light years that shine like stars. *LM*
Come closer and see See into the trees Find the girl While you can Come closer and see See into the dark Just follow your eyes Just follow your eyes I hear her voice Calling my name The sound is deep In the dark I hear her voice And start to run Into the trees Into the trees Into the trees Suddenly I stop But I know it's too late I'm lost in a forest All alone The girl was never there It's always the same I'm running towards nothing Again and again and again and again... She said "could you take me home tonight? It's the only way I know. " She said "could you take me home tonight? There's no other way I know. " She said "you know the way you used to do." "Of course I'll take you home." "You know the way you used to do." "Of course I'll take you home." This kiss could cost my life. Is all you see in her eyes. This kiss could cost my life. Is all you see in her eyes. It's all you see in her eyes. She said "Take my hand, take me home." She said "Take my hand, take me home. Take me home. Take me home.
This version of ‘A Forest’ is a gift to Cure fans, especially to the fans who were at this show. Wow oh WOW! An epic version of the song…. One downside to it is that the song doesn’t continue forever. If only I could turn back time and place myself at this show. 😌
This version is amazing. The Cure at the top of their game, playing one of their absolute best songs. And nice little touch of Joy Division toward the end! 🤘

I was there with my dad when i was 10 years old. In fact, i think it was this same show because i believe this is Philadelphia, PA. I'm not totally sure tho
But, to me, the 1989 moment was even more energetic. If you hear entreat LP and some of the videos of that tour.... god... Boris was on his very finest moment bringing the time a bit up to all the band.
I think the Best Song of EVER and all the Times ... never heard such e brilliant awsome and wonderfull song like this ... can't stop listening everyday from years and years ..again and again and again
In the late 90s my step father took my mother and I to see The Cure at the Hollywood bowl. I just came back from his funeral today, and this song came up on my feed. My heart may not rest till I see justice for your death, but I pray that yours will. I love you forever and ever Dad.
In 1992 I was at the best concert of my life - "The Cure" in Munich, Olympiastadion. I was 30 years old then and I still get blown away when I hear this music - and today, February 21, 2022, I'm celebrating my 60th birthday with "The Cure - A Forest" ... and again and again and again and again and again and again ....
Magical moment in 1992. The greatest version of this masterpiece "A Forest " ever ! More haunting sound than ever. The CURE and Robert Smith at the top of his art ! Respects
Im almost 54 and just finished learning the bass part of this . I have heard this some much over the last few weeks i am always playing this in me head constantly. This is probably the best live version.
@@413dreaming I'm trying to do some discovering as I never really listened to Joy Division (not my times, discovering this by myself). What song exactly is that riff from? Cause it's absolutely mindblowing
Robert just showed how good he is.. & the rest of the Cure just showed they are one of the very very best live acts to ever perform, they've been there, done that, & could still do it. The best. Wish I'd been in England for this.
This was recorded in the US - but this tour was amazing. I can say, having had the privilege of seeing this tour live in 92, I got to see their mastery first hand - and it was because of this tour, and Robert that I started playing guitar. He's way better than people give him credit for.
I feel so old saying this, but I grew up with this music, and I think it has staying power. Thirty years later and I can still listen to this and think it sounds modern and relevant and beautiful.
I agree only got into Cure about 10 years ago (my early thirties) but so glad I did, no mucking about with glamour and distractions just ace atmospheric songs and performed great live.
Same here, have been listening to them since high-school years. Had always wanted to play their music live and finally found myself in a pretty decent Cure tribute band after many years. :)
The Cure Live in Concert album released 1984? ...It has the best version for it's pure serious gothic vocals and non of these girly swooning stuff. ..I stopped listening to the Cure way back in 1989..
It's only now I am realising how incredibly important a lot of 80s music is in the history of music. Don't get me wrong - even at the time it felt special - I saw these guys at the Birmingham Odeon in 1980 and Robert Smith played lead guituar for both the Cure and Souixsie and The Banshees that night. When I think of the mantle picked up by The Cure, Bauhaus, Echo and the Bunnymen, early Depeche Mode, handed over by groups like The Damned and The Stranglers, well only later did I realise how lucky I was to be 15 years old in 1977 and emerging into punk, then growing into late teen/early 20s listening to this stuff. I really was blessed with an embarrassment of riches.
Das ist Musik in höchster form und wer das nicht fühlt hatt keine Ahnung von richtig guter Musik, einer dieser Songs um aus der Haut zu fahren.Danke für diese musikalische Bereicherung🙏
I love how Robert knows exactly when to stop singing and let the music speak for itself, The instrumentals this group has produced over the years are just insane. Also how have his vocals not changed in 40 years.... the man still sings like he's 17!
You probably know this............when he was looking for a singer, he apparently thought....... .l might give it a go.........he wasn't impressed.........others thought he sounded alright...........from small acorns..................
This Sunday there is two hours of Cure, Hyde park, London on sky arts............you can pick it up on ordinary TV's.........l know cos it has been on before........free......in London it is 11..........probably varies............l think it was their last gig in London..........l have it on dvd & it is well worth it......about six. British time.........,.happy evening..............

+yallow rosa he used to do also love will tears apart as a tribute in a forest,, i did it in a concert for a girl, friend of mine, in the party of her 18 birthday party,,,it was 1989...
+yallow rosa I recall Bernhard Sumner from Joy Division / New Order actually complaining in an interview he was fed up with having his work ripped off by Robert Smith. The Upstairs Room was pretty much a New Order rip off.
this is exactly how it was when they played in Philly late 80s early 90s. This song just blew everyone away…they just kept going with that bass, seemed like forever. It was brilliant. we were all in awe.

Fatso.
It's straight BONKERS.
This is one of my favorite songs by The Cure. They are my favorite band in the world. I was born in 86, but i grew up listening to 80s and classic/heavy metal music. 80s music will always rule!
Hey good music comes from the soul thus making it timeless
I'll listen to anything that has some soul in it. No need to restrict based upon time.
Which is why mainstream music usually does not have ppl revisiting it in 34 years. Not always but c'mon I'm not about to meditate w/ ice ice baby.
Best version ever? Still get chills 33 years later
I like so much 100 years and a forest on live in Orange, France at about 1986..
Yes
Yes, even better than the "fuck Robert Palmer, fuck rock & roll" version
Bar none, the best iteration of the Forest ever.
Robert is a musical genius and a once in generation singer.
Pure magic. The world is fortunate to have him.
Fortunate indeed...
There's no band like The Cure. They are literally one of the best bands in the world.
Sick bass line .
Why?
@@kostaslesiotis5752 bc it sounds good?
I love bass lines that drive the music, it pushes at just the right moments.
This version's just so trippy
Watched it on acid i thought it‘s never ending, listening forever which was beautiful 💚
The bass line has been running through my life since the mid 80's , timeless.
My favourite Cure song for driving down a dark road with a destination still to be determined.
extendo mix of the walk does it for me
Coddiwomple!

oh my word.. Never heard this extended version before. Freaking amazing!
Apparently they were told to stop. They said do one look at the band mates reaction

I was there (not this concert, but one a month later) - it was AMAZING.
Im nearly 50 years old and this is one of the songs that got me into music when I was younger....pure genius and a classic.
me too
i'm almost 40 and i was 15 back then.. same. still one of my fav songs ever.
No band will ever come close.
I am almost 20 and this song got me into music when I heard it for the first time when I was 5
Cool, when I get to be around your age - I'm sure to love them just as much !
Saw them live recently… it was unbelievable good!!! Their music 30 years later and still sounds amazing!!!
At his age Smith has still a great voice and from his guitar comes out the same magic we could ear in the 80's.
I will never grow tired of this song

Me neither, any of their songs for that matter.....
I will never be tired again. ;)

Awsome song..
The best 13.46 minutes of my life. So sorry for the 1.014 ppl who got lost in a forest and disliked this. You, people, missed the greatest eargasm.

That's sad how ppl can dislike something so wonderful like this, but that's their life, we have this ! :D
I saw this live in Sacramento, May 7th 1992, The Forest was the last song they played in the last encore, it was phukin PHENOMINAL, will never forget it
I agree!!
+Joachim Peiper The song is called A Forest...not The Forest
Keith Redmond Yeah, I know
+Joachim Peiper Yup, saw the same show in Miami, and I agree, this was the most amazing part of the concert. Unforgettable.
*LM*
Come closer and see
See into the trees
Find the girl
While you can
Come closer and see
See into the dark
Just follow your eyes
Just follow your eyes
I hear her voice
Calling my name
The sound is deep
In the dark
I hear her voice
And start to run
Into the trees
Into the trees
Into the trees
Suddenly I stop
But I know it's too late
I'm lost in a forest
All alone
The girl was never there
It's always the same
I'm running towards nothing
Again and again and again and again...
She said "could you take me home tonight?
It's the only way I know.

There's no other way I know.
" She said "you know the way you used to do."
"Of course I'll take you home."
"You know the way you used to do."
"Of course I'll take you home."
This kiss could cost my life.
Is all you see in her eyes.

This version of ‘A Forest’ is a gift to Cure fans, especially to the fans who were at this show.
Wow oh WOW!
An epic version of the song….
One downside to it is that the song doesn’t continue forever.
If only I could turn back time and place myself at this show. 😌
I saw this tour back in 92. This has to be the BEST version of the song they’ve ever played live. It was amazing.
Lucky you! What a treat!
Yes i agree…. I saw this tour too….. it was amazing
I saw it too - it was amazing. My friend however had to go to the toilet, and he was like "Just FINISH ALREADY!" - lol.
There’s a great one in England some where . Check it out .
The wish tour, 1992 saw them in Williamsburg, Virginia
First band I saw live. 1995 San Diego. Before the show I juggled a ball with Robert et al. Rad!
I'm crying for this piece of beauty.
The PERFECT live version!!! BRUTAL!!!!
I love it,when Robert is playing the legendary Riff of Joy Division at 11:14!!!
shes lost control!
Yes!!!
That’s the BEST! I love to think he loved Ian as much as I did. That was such a magical time and I love knowing Robert felt that too.
It also sounds like Hong Kong Garden by soixsie and the Banshees
Yes
By far the best 13 minutes in the history of music...
Well, clearly you haven't listened to Chopin.
This version is amazing. The Cure at the top of their game, playing one of their absolute best songs. And nice little touch of Joy Division toward the end! 🤘
i think this is their best line up honestly, Porl on guitars man
11.15-11.25 joy Division -She lost control
road house blues too

I’m grateful to have seen them on this tour, the Cranes opened at the Skydome in Toronto - a perfect rainy and gloomy day as well.

@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT wym I literally was able to see the cure 3 months ago and there's ton of amazing new music lol we're doing alright
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT they were doing new music on the tour yes.
I saw them the next two nights on this tour. You're not wrong, they were firing on all 4 cylinders.
I'm over 600 years old, im methusala, I've seen a lot , I've heard a lot and this is a modern masterpiece, any live performance that dwarfs the studio version in such a way deserves to be treasured, fear not our current cultural dirge for what was and what will be shall uplift the soul and reinvigorate the human spirit.

My daughter goes to sleep to this song everyday. Its so hypnotic..it literally wipes her out. I LOVE THE CURE!!!

Blessed are those that attended this outstanding performance!
I was there with my dad when i was 10 years old. In fact, i think it was this same show because i believe this is Philadelphia, PA. I'm not totally sure tho
I went to Madrid show that year. November 1992. Amazing performance at the old Palacio de deportes.
But, to me, the 1989 moment was even more energetic. If you hear entreat LP and some of the videos of that tour.... god... Boris was on his very finest moment bringing the time a bit up to all the band.

68 years and still loving it!!!
62 here and I feel the same as you do!!
In the late 90s my step father took my mother and I to see The Cure at the Hollywood bowl. I just came back from his funeral today, and this song came up on my feed. My heart may not rest till I see justice for your death, but I pray that yours will. I love you forever and ever Dad.

Young energy 😮
Im almost 54 and just finished learning the bass part of this . I have heard this some much over the last few weeks i am always playing this in me head constantly.
This is probably the best live version.
I heard this 1st as a 13yr old lad & it brought me to a lifelong love of The Cure. Still as wonderful today as it was over 40yrs ago.

Probably one of the best live bands, musically, I saw during the eighties. No flash. Just drive. So good.

Correction - it was Sept '79

I recall Bernhard Sumner from Joy Division / New Order actually complaining in an interview he was fed up with having his work ripped off by Robert Smith.
The Upstairs Room was pretty much a New Order rip off.
