      ChooseSuicide No I came to the conclusion after watching A LOT, probably all major, interviews of Interpol. Of Carlos, of Paul, etc. If you're new to this band please research before insulting others. Paul even one time in an interview (after Carlos left) implied that Carlos was an asshole but he tolerated him because he was amazing on the bass.

    • @Wanderersea
      @Wanderersea 6 років тому +64

      Both Sam and Paul has spoken unkindly about Carlos. I think it was Daniel who brought Carlos into the group because they had a conversation about Doc Martens boots. Daniel was closer to Carlos than the others. And in Carlos defense, he gave all he could to the band and he felt like he was having the worse time of his life in the band. If I were in a band and I wanted to band to sound a certain way and another member dictates against it, I would feel unwarranted and unwanted and that my input was unimportant. Carlos D felt that he was just a bassist chugging along in the machine.

      In the book meet me in the bathroom Paul basically says he and Carlos used to get on well because Paul would take the piss because he thought Carlos was putting on the pretentiousness a bit, but then realised he wasn’t and their relationship when downhill after that

      @@Wanderersea not that my previous band was anything comparable to Interpol in any way, but basically the same situation happened to me a few months ago. Me being the bassist and also in Carlos’ position as you described. It is a shitty situation. People in all sides can be shitty, myself included. Being in a band can suck when you have different people with different opinions. You just have to find the people who you click with. Much like a relationship. Now I’m luckily working with one of my friends who I have way more in common with musically and artistically and accepts my style of playing (Carlos & Kim Deal are my big influences)
      In my previous band, I felt like I was also just “chugging along” as you described. Really made me feel better about the situation. It’s like a bad breakup. I know many people go through the same situation so just know you’re not alone and it gets better when you find the right people or do what you want to do yourself!

    I love interpol.... keep the indie art rock alive. The sound is so alive. You should not have to work on anything but your music, unless you like it. I work to pay for bands like this to keep doing what I can't. When pop and hip-hop sing about food and have 4 word repeated choruses bands like this keep word art an enigma for the ears... I like some intelligence in my music. Thanks guys!

It wasn't just the big ones like Interpol, the Strokes, The White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Hives etc. There was also Ladytron, Fischerspooner, Chicks on Speed, The Rapture, The Kills, The Raveonettes, Zoot Women, BRMC, The Vines, Clinic, Mull Historical Society, Grandaddy, Super Furry Animals, Beta Band etc.

    • @michelemontague8485
      @michelemontague8485 6 місяців тому

      The "New York" that everyone is referring to whenever anyone talks about New York no longer exists. It's been gone for almost 25 years now. Now, unfortunately there are a bunch of people here who are basically art tourists. There are no smaller venues to actually even go to see local groups who are coming up. Ever since that freak our ex-mayor Giuliani made it illegal to have a venue where people danced in establishments where they played music and where alcohol was served.. no kidding..I am not making it up. They dusted off these old cabaret laws that had been on the books since the 1930's. I don't know if his crap administration knew that by doing this they would basically put an end to all New York nightlife, it's culture and it's revenu but that's what ended up happening. They called it a "quality of life issue". Combined with the rise of the internet and finished off with the lock down during the pandemic. Add to that (as if that wasn't enough) the astronomical rents these jokers slapped everyone with completely obliterated whatever art community was left here. And now what makes up the general population in the city are those who can afford to pay the median price of $3,500 a month for a studio apartment. These people are not artists, these people are workers and they want it QUIET at night cause they have to get up at 5 or 6 in the morning TO GO TO WORK..they don't want loud music being played downstairs in the bar where they live upstairs from. Nor do they want drinks being served until 4am so let's try to get a "quality of life" ordinance passed that would make the bars close at 2am instead of 4am. So instead of artists (which is what made New York, NEW YORK!!!) You know, what made it THE place where everyone wanted to be ..we now have workers, and let's face it.. They are WORKED. And let's see who else.. bankers and their offspring. Oh and NYU students whose parents are bankers..but we've covered that demographic.

    My impression is that Paul & Carlos are both douches, and thus couldn't stand each other. It's the stand-off of a certain type of douche, "endemic" to bands, in which they both puff up their feathers and ruffle each other in a vie for dominance.
    You can at least say of Paul & Carlos that they were essential to the sound in ways that S&D weren't. Look how the music fell off after Carlos left. Bros needed each other but each wanted to be top dog. You see it all the time...
