Yeah I will test, but this aspect ratio isnt really for me :P Even game support should be pretty difficult I think? With the "full hd" ppi I dont have a problem. But maybe I will change my mind... we will see. I have to check if there already the price is released edit: oh and Im a bit sceptical about viewing angles :) but we will see
Yeah me too, but it would be 144 hz 1 ms with the same great motion blur reduction of the cfg70 + HDR ;) it could be great also the new 27" with 2k resolution ;) p.s. 32:9 if supported well could be the best mix between a single and a triple monitor configuration. Should be panoramic, immersive and without bazels too ;)

Great review man. I considered the premium ultrawide market and settled on the hp omen and i love it. The feature that i was attracted to that set itself apart from the other ones you mentioned in the beginning of the video was its non-aggressive, sleek design. I feel like this is the first very well done review of this monitor on youtube. I am shocked the video only has a few thousand views and, as of this comment, only you have only 322 subscribers! Excellent content, keep at it man and hopedully you can corner the monitor review market.

Since looks like you like the less gaming styled models i would say the X34. I also think much more people has the X34, including me this Friday;), but at the end it's your decision. Would love to see any of those reviews!
DeCapitan I have to check closer tech specs, especially in the bit depht caus somewhere I read that the acer does not have a true 8 bit panel? I will research soon and order :) From design, I like the acer more and really dont like asus' design ..^^ but it's just personal taste :)
The X34 and Asus PG348Q have EXACTLY the same panel model made by LG, and it is a true 8bit panel but like the Asus is sometimes called a 10 bit panel with dithering.
Thanks for a very in-depth review. I also have an OMEN X 35. It's connected via the supplied Displayport cable to an old-ish Nvidia GTX760. G-Sync is enabled on the monitor and the Nvidia graphics. On the OMEN X 35 the Color Control / Viewing Modes is set for Gaming - FPS. All other monitor settings are at Default values. My sample has noticeable backlight bleed in several areas. With images on screen, however, the bleed isn't noticeable.
Hey, this is typically a "lottery" within all monitors and tv's on the market (blb, clouding, ips glow etc.) If the blb bothers you to much I would send back and change the monitor if your in general happy with the omen
Just found your channel and what a brilliant review. I didn't plan to watch the entire 32 mins, but its such high quality, very detailed and well shot, that I just ended up watching the whole thing :D .Much better than similar reviews ive seen from much larger channels. Keep up the great content!

Actually ordered it a few days ago, but all the people in the forums talking about the G-Sync flickering had me a little worried. I'm feeling a lot better about it now after seeing your review. Sure Thunder, I got mine on Monday. So I've had a good couple days to put it through the paces. I gotta say. It's a beast of a monitor... It's going to take a good calibration ( I used an i1 Display Pro) , but after that, it's off to the races. It's got excellent color, contrast, and response times. Runs a smooth 100hz and Gsync, on mine at least, works just fine. Something I was very worried about initially. I've played videos, movies, Fallout 4, and Mass Effect Andromeda so far with no problems at all. I'm coming from a Acer Predator XB271HU, no slouch of a monitor, and I'm telling you I'm never going back lol. If your interested, give it some serious consideration. It's got differences from an IPS for sure. They're excellent panels. But if you're like me and tired of BLB, IPS glow, and weak contrast you can't beat it. I think there really needs to be more awareness for this display. It's a sleeping dragon among ultrawides.

Very good and in depth review of this monitor, just what i was looking for. I am currently gaming on a 32" old 60Hz 16:9 IPS TV and it's absolutely horrible. I was hoping something like the LG 38UC99 (3840x1600 @ 75 Hz) would come with G-sync this year, but right now i am actually thinking about getting this monitor, somewhere in June. Erst einmal: sehr geiles Review. Kannst du eventuell eine schriftliche Zusammenfassung geben, wie du die Monitor optimal für dich eingestellt hast? Hab ihn mir eben bestellt und bin selber, was das Einstellen von Werten angeht, mega unsicher und würde wahrscheinlich selber nicht wissen, was mir besser gefällt. Ich habe mir den Monitor vor ca. 1 Jahr gekauft, bin echt zufrieden. Nun ist mir bei Battlefield 1 in dunklen/graulastigen Szenen ein Effekt aufgefallen und zwar bildet sich bei Bewegung ein leichtes Gitter über den ganzen Bildschirm und es flackert leicht. Ist das normal? Bei statischen Bilder hab ich keine Probleme.
@@LimsCave Mit der 1080ti habe ich nahezu konstant 100 fps bei 100 Hz. Overdrive bei 3, also Standard. Bei abgeschalteten Gsync sehe ich das Gitter auch. Komischerweise ist mir das Gitter anfangs nicht aufgefallen, kann das mit der Zeit kommen? Kann man ein Defekt ausschließen?
@@calebdrake3544 Yup! Had it for 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it. I had to initially adjust from using an IPS monitor for years prior, but with a few tweaks, it has been pretty freaking amazing especially for the price considering even good spec freesync monitors are around this price as well.
The Omens contrast ratio is also more about 2000-2100 (at least on my unit, and it, of course, will differ in each individual unit) I wouldn't say that the difference is visible between 2000 and 2200 especially because of the VA Glow
As the HP Omen is way cheaper than the Alienware AW3418DW: Which one would you suggest? This HP Omen or do you still recommend the Dell Alienware? I am currently stuck between the two and the price is a big plus for the HP Omen, however I like the design of the Alienware more and you get 3 years of warranty ( vs. 1 year for the HP)...

I got the X35 this week as a gift from my Employee. Started this thing today but noticed a "darker" band around the edges. No clue if this is normal but was looking at your video, it looks like you have it also... Can you or anyone explane this darker/lighter issue? Is it to do with backlighting? Thanks for the answer

I had this Omen and just wasn't blown away like I thought I would be. I returned it and purchased the Samsung CJ791. I was expecting to be blown away with this one too but I was not. I guessed qdot tech would be so awesome, but alas I guess I am a tad bit underwhelmed by all of theses really high priced monitors. I kept the Samsung and am putting it through its paces. I may feel different after a month with this major monitor purchase. We will see :(

Really love such an extensive and detailed review, you earned a sub. But i am really dissapointed about you haven't showed anything about the biggest issue, the 48ms BTG response time. You could have shown us something about that and talked about it a bit more. 48ms is a pretty big value to just say you just can notice it on Steam and such. But again, overall really nice review. Much appreciated.
Thanks :) I tried, but It's super hard to see on game content. I also recorded Steam while moving and scrolling in the shop etc and It's much less noticeable on camera, even on 60fps. I also tryed to record this in a special scene in alan wake (in a prison) where I just walked around right and left, but even here the overdrive lag was like no visible. I could make a black box in photoshop behind a grey background, but thats of course the worst case and I think if people would see this, they would think that all dark games would look like this, and this is not the case.... So it's not that easy >.>

I know right, when you know it is there, it becomes extremely irritating :) To me, on an ultrawide monitor it is mandatory to get this go as low as possible. I had the the CF791 last week and returned it. The curvature was a nice touch but the 1500R provoked the colour shift of the VA panels to be visible in the sides on 2 cm. it was very annoying as well as 14ms panel and lack of G-sync, that's why I moved to the Omen. In anycase your review was really great and looked at everything I look at :) Kudos for the fact that you looked at "matte" coating of the panel. Personally I prefer the semi matte of the Omen, but 100% matte is a no go !
Like I mentioned, on the hp, as well you can see on video, he also suffers from color shifting. I couldn't compare to the CF791 right now (not that much budged :P - but hopefully in future I can order some more models to get also a direct comparison within a video) Strange is, that even my old sony 40w4000 full hd tv has one of the best viewing angles that I have seen in VA panels (no LED). I also don't like these aggressive matt panels.
:) My best guess is that the coating of those monitors are amplifying the effect, on the CF791, it looked like there was a more important than usual gap between the coating and pixels. I have the feeling that this played a role in that. when I tried to clean the coating as some foam residue was on it, I could see some things going on with the soft pressure. whatever, I know now that 1500R curvature is not compatible with VA planels, the shift even in the middle is there in the angles. since it was only on 1/2 cm min, I think the 1800R curvature will avoid that. But you are right of course, it is a VA issue. Man in any case, keep up the good work ! very very pleasing video.

I could be really more worse with the 1800r curvature, hopefully I also will have the chance to compare :) Nevertheless, the silver shine glossy thing in the omen hopefully will not bothers you that much as me. Its just strange that va tvs dont suffer under this hard viewing angles of monitors, even when go directly in front of the tv. We will see, it would interest me what you will think about thr omen when you get ur exemplar, esecially in viewing angles and color shifting, cause you already hat the samsung so its even more interesting :) And thanks dude, Ill keep this up for shure and hope I can lean from mistakes as well as improve the video quality
You mention in this review, that 200Hz VA panels are also expected later in 2017. Are these going to be QHD as well? Do you have any specific information on this?

I think the Asus might be a little bit better but the differences wont be huge. Personally I definitely would prefer the acer x34p or the alienware aw3418dw just because the overall image quality is better

@@davidcohas7951 they are good alternatives if you necessarily want an ultrawide Panel. Im not a real VA fan within monitors (I Love VA at tvs) so I personally would also prefer a 16:9 IPS or even a ultrawide full hd IPS ... I cant stand the VA Glow but there are also many people who dont really see the VA Glow as a problem. In bright image content everything is perfect (as well as in a brighter environent) otherwise you always will See the glow and color shift:)
I used calibration hardware. The one and only thing you can do without hardware calibration is to lower the gamma in your graphics card setting with some test screens like or tools like this (sorry coudln't find in English): www.eizo.de/monitortest/ -> Choose only gamma and click on "test starten" Explanation: Change the grayscale of the logo using the slider until the logo fuses with the background as much as possible. The displayed value corresponds to the gamma value of your monitor. So you set that Gamma value in the tool which you aim for and change gamma settings in the monitor OSD. If they don't "hit" your desired gamma value then you have to change within your graphics card settings. I hope this will help An real optimum for color temperature does not really exist, while some ppl prefer a warmer some a cooler temperature. You dont neet to calibrate colors for games since games does not read ICC profiles
Hey man, it was a great review really, today i bought for myself from Otto with a discount with 599 Euro. So after I got the monitor first thing i will do is to set the gamma to 2.2, and then ? Should I do another setting for colors ? And do you know any fix that HP launched for the overdrive lag you mentioned under Response Time at 24:00 of the video ?
You should check the hp page for a patch maybe ( But Ive heaed that they have fixed this issue) you should set your prefered brightness settings and then the whitepoint/color temperature (rgb settings) After that tweak the brightness again a bit while while the more rgb settings you reduce, the dimmer the Monitor and the weaker the Contrast will be.
@@LimsCave Hello again, from nvidia panel, I decreased the brightness to 35 but i havent increased the gamma to 2.2, for me gamma is 1.2 , otherwise all details are lost. How you manage to keep gamma at 2.2 ? Is it needed ? Even if I make the brightness 0, Gamma with 2.2 it looks worse.

wobble not noticeable? lol when i type that thing wobbles, when i move my mouse, it wobbles, is crappy. i have to lean it to my second monitor so it wont move.
Eduardo De Leon We also figured out that some units even does not stay in position when adjusting in height. But I couldnt notice any wobble while typing or even noving the mouse o_O
You can wait your whole life for new tech :) I don't think that oled gaming monitors will come this or even next year. The next big thing is direct led, which we have since some years @ televisions. Blacks and colors like I mentioned in the video, great. Colors suffer on this model a bit in viewing angles. At games, you will see this mostly only on darker image content, combined with the "glossy silver shine" effect. Consider, that some people who rated the monitor for example on amazon, even don't mentioned problems @ viewing angles. So it depends on you, how strong you will see them.
+ 60 Hz without Freesync / G-Sync. I mean with 100+ Hz without that feature is ok but 60 Hz in a game without any sync also is pretty bad. Otherwise a hdr oled tv would do the same job for a cheaper price with a larger screen, but the input lag actually on the oleds is pretty bad. Maybe sony does it better? I don't know, im not that up to date in detailed informations in actual tv
Lims Cave I've seen laptops with OLED screens (Alienware) but don't know how good they are to game, but as right now I see it complicated to get an OLED monitor , we also have quantum dot displays and hdr so let's see
Yeah :) I had an oled tv, for games it was pretty good ( only the 60 hz bothers me ). For movies I don't liked it that much. In future I will make a OLED video guide and tell you why OLED is not perfect for "NOT" hdr movies... :)
oooooh die fostex t40 nice nice hast auch ahnung von kopfhörern wa ;) nochmals gutes review apropos Monitor: morgen kommt schon der dritte. hatte bisher den benq xl2730 und zz den mg279q - leider P/L beides nicht zu friedenstellend (war zunächst happy das der asus keine toten pixel hatte, dafür blb starken glow und was mich am meisten gestört hat, das fette clouding fast in der mitte des monitors, was beim surfen einfach scheiße ist)
Ohje :/ Ja, vor allem bei den 16:9 IPS Modellen hat man ziemliche Probleme mit dem Glow. Für mich ist das unerträglich, aber hatte wie gesagt noch nicht das Vergnügen einen mit "wenig" Glow zu haben, falls es sowas überhaupt gibt :) Welches Modell ist denn jetzt dein dritter Anlauf? Ja die Fostex sind super :) Hatte versucht auch Brainwavz Pads drauf zu packen aber dann haste nen komplett anderen Sound. PS: Kopfhörer und Monitore bzw Bildschirme sind so die meisten Themen mit denen ich mich beschäftige, danach Lautsprecher :)
Ich hab mal ne wichtige Frage an dich: Habe wegen deinem Review den Omen geholt und nebenbei jetzt noch Predator X34A und weiß nun nicht welchen ich behalten soll... das IPS Panel ist wirklich toll aber das Display ist kleiner und das curved nicht so stark was einen nicht so sehr eintauchen lässt wie das Omen Display mit der stärkeren Krümmung. Gib mir einen Rat Bzw Tipp bitte :). Welchen würdest du behalten und wieso? Deine reviews sind generell der Hammer! Was ist denn mit dem Alienware AW3418DW? Curved is mehr vorhanden, IPS Glow ist weniger, 120Hz.... Der Acer war ja nen richtiger schnapper. Okay ob sich die Preiserhöhung zum Alienware von 350€ lohnt sei mal dahingestellt. Kommst du denn mit dem IPS Glow vom Acer klar? Wenn ja, würde ICH den Acer behalten, sonst den Omen (wobei der VA Glow auch hier ziemlich sichtbar ist, also farbveränderung je nach blickwinkel, genau so wie gamma shift)
Lims Cave Ja, der Alienware ist super! Hat der eine größere Krümmung als der Acer? Naja habe ihn wie gesagt für 650 als top b Ware bekommen und den Alienware findet man nirgends gebraucht oder ähnliches, nur neu für 999 Euro und das ist schon ein großer Aufpreis. Den Omen habe ich zurück gesendet weil die bessere Blickwinkelstabilität gepaart mit dem deutlich weniger auftretende schmieren mir dann doch wichtiger war als die 1 Zoll mehr und das mehr an curved. Ebenso ist die Farbwiedergabe vom Acer deutlich besser als vom Omen wie ich finde. Also ich habe jedoch recht starke blacklight bleed beim Acer links oben.. wenn ich aufs Panel drücke am Rand, dann verstärkt sich das extrem aber man muss ja nicht drauf drücken :). Dieser Silver shine Effekt war auch recht stark zu sehen beim Omen.. leider. Für 1000 Euro Neupreis finde ich den nicht wirklich akzeptabel. Danke für deine Antwort!
aldeen1982 Der Acer sollte auch wie der Asus pg348q noch scanlines haben, aber wenn sie dir nicht auffallen umso besser. Es kommt auch immer drauf an ob du in dunkler Umgebung spielst und eben wie stark dich der IPS Gloe und BLB beim Acer stört. Wenn dir der Aufpreis es nicht wert ist dann behalt den x34a. Die krümmung beim Alienware sollte so sein wie beim Omen (1800R ) habe ich zumindest im Kopf :)
Oh ok your right, in Ger ist er am teuersten :P Maybe it's also worth to wait for the acer x35p, but I personally dont like the design and the overclock to 130 or 120, I dont recognize atm, will not bring that improvement in blur reduction I think. And maybe more problems with pixel inversion, we don't know

Du hast ja nun Beide Monitore getestet. Wie verhält sich denn die Blickwinkelstabilität im Vergleich zum PG279Q. Ich habe aktuell noch ein Dual-PG279Q Setup und will es gegen einen X35 tauschen.
Patrick Kühn naja ist schon ein guter unterschied würde ich sagen. Genau wie zum pg348q beispielsweise. Ich mag die blickwinkel vom omen leider gar nicht aber es gibt eben auch viele die keinerlei probleme damit haben

I'm currently using an EIZO Foris FS2331 with a VA panel, but it's time for an upgrade, and I'm looking for an ultra wide. Your review made me check the viewing angles on dark content on my EIZO and I noticed the same artifacts you mention on the OMEN, although with it's small screen size, it's not manifesting when sitting right in front of the EIZO. The only thing that bothers me more currently is the "ghosting" of darker contrast content in games, creating trails of black. I didn't clearly notice those in your video review, are they also annoying on the OMEN?
The Omen does not have Ghosting, maybe you mean smearing (grey to black response time). Cause all VA panels suffer under a bad gtb response time. Do you use the 240 stobe on the Eizo? If yes, this could also be a reason why producing ghosting. Smearing actually is good noticeable at test images, in game I don't had issues with it. You have to notice that 100 Hz also causes more blure than your eizo with 120 Hz, probably (I don't know if the Eizo has some overdrive settings, I wanted to buy one 1-2 years ago, but was sold out ^^) I would not use the Omen for e-sports. For Singleplayer with ultrawide support its awesome, especially 3rd person games And thanks btw :)
Yes, the difference between the terms "ghosting" and "smearing" were not clear to me. It was very clear on my VA panel when playing Fallout 4 and Pillars Of Eternity when blacks transitioned to red brown colors. I think you might be referring to the EIZO FG2421: gaming.eizo.com/products/foris_fg2421_de/, with the 240Hz strobe, but mine is an older VA model, the FS233: www.eizoglobal.com/support/db/products/model/FS2331 A pretty outdated model... ;-) The overdrive settings on mine now are set to standard. My main use is single player games, or MMO's, nothing competitive. You also peeked my interest in the upcoming Z35P, ... although the OMEN looks way more pleasing for me. I'm not into screaming gaming designs but I would put that aside if the Z35P tackled some of the OMEN issues...

Hmm, actually we cannot say how superior the 200hz will be in comparison to the omen :/ Im also not a fan of these gaming designs aka acer and asus (pg348q) In the end it's your decision. You also can wait for HDR but we dont know how long :) while 4k and 144hz is not the perfect combo especially in 27" in m opinion, I wished they would release a wqhd one with hdr and direct led or even an ultrawide :P but most people just wanted this combination.
Well my hunt for a new monitor started around 9 months ago ... I kept searching because new, more interesting ones got announced. I'll have to decide at some point or I'll grow old with my current monitor... ;-) I'll certainly will need to beef up my current build, as I'm running a 970GTX now in my desktop ... Great review man! As a hint, when you count out all the pieces of the monitor, you could show them individually on camera (like on the table for instance).

tsampaola Hey, well I wouldnt use the omen for fps (maybe for sigleplayer fps but not online shooters) I mean, you have an ultrawide so you will have probably the same experience without tearing. If you prefer image quality over your s2716dg 144 hz smoothness then its maybe ok, so you already have the experience and you can imagine how it could be with g sync. I personally wouldnt cause I prefer really 144hz or rather ulmb / backlight strobing for fast games. Maybe the omen also has a bit more input lag compared to your dell. Switching from ips to va I think also is not that easy cause of the viewing angles, its hard to say if you can deal with it :) yeah i should try make 15 min videos but its really hard. The problem atm it for example I have to make some videos for viewig angles for example, so i dont have to repeat everything in my reviews :) I will try my best to make them more comoact, thanks dude :)
Just to clarify:) I can see that you put an amazing amount of work into your review and I really appreciate it as no one else goes into sooοο much detail. Bullet points, monitor comparisons (existing and future), Spyder calibration, amazing!! To be honest, you just saved me from this purchase. I was ready to by this monitor cause I just love it's looks. Now, I have decided to wait for VEGA and see what Freesync 2.0 monitors come out... I just wanted to note that 30+ mins is too much time in someone's day...I have subbed anyway but I would love to see you pack content like this into a 12-15 min video max.
tsampaola Thanks man :) Yeah I know what you mean and I know most will not watch the whole video, for this i made "capitles" so there can switch to the topics what they want to know.I hope really I can make them a bit shorter really but it's really not that easy^^ I can make viewing angles shorter, greyscale, cut the downscaling part and make a seperate video, cut the monitor specifications into the "intro" etc. I will try :p but as next km reviewing the eizi foris fs2735 and hell this monitor has so much options in thr ost + the smartphone option which adds again some few minutes :D I have to find a new structure to make this more compact, maybe talk faster haha Well, In your case I also would wait probably for other releases. Maybe hdr ultrawide options or 144 hz ips options infutre, but I think this wouldnt be a big upgrade for you, the tearing on the dell probably is the biggest issue you have atm. Even the image quality of the omen really is superior but the viewing angles makes the general image quality a bit worse. notice, some people who bought the omen tells me they dont feel disturbed by the va glow / viewing angles :) it really depends in you even there are people who says this or this one is better, its absolutely bullshit in my opinion, we all have other priorities

Hey Lims , so I got refund for that pg348q and now I am looking which one to get. I have narrow the choice into four monitors: Asus pg348q (again) :) Acer predator x34a Acer predator z35p HP Omen X 35 X3W57AA Omen and z35p have biggest curve radius and I kinda like omen stan and looks. Is omen native 100hz? And it is most expensive one of the four. Oh did they fixed that when monitor is sliding down when is on set on highest height?
Hey, yes the Omen has native 100Hz. You also can wait a bit for new releases (like the Dell Alienware for example) limscave.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=113&p=273#p273 with IPS and 120 Hz. But for now, we cannot say how good the Dell will be. I really like the omen, even it has some issues, but viewing angles are very poor compared to other VA panels, you should keep this in mind. My monitor doesn't slide down, I think this can vary which means: some stands are better fixed than others. The image is very different to the Asus/Acer IPS. t because of the VA glow a more "gleaming" screen. In Dark souls III, for example, I liked this. Personally, I would go for the Asus (if you can deal with Asus vertical scanlines), but you will have the yellowish VA glow on all PG348Q and Acer X34A units with the LG panel. I really love ultrawide for gaming (when they support it), but currently, I'm not satisfied with existing models, so I personally will wail until I get one for Games like Witcher 3 etc. But maybe you are not that sensitive to the VA glow as I am and the Omen or z35p is the perfect monitor for you
I like how minimalistic HP stand is, dont take so much desk space. Asus has terrible yellow in corners. How is overall quality of omen and is there any difference between 100hz and 120hz? I dont know about z35p, heard that it have some overdrive mode and most people are complaining that create ghosting. HP omen dont have those issues and vertical scanlines problem?
UA-cam notifications still broken :( between 100 and 120 hz probably no difference at a VA panel, but I cannot say for sure. I dont saw vertical scanlines on the omen and no ghosting - mostly smearing because of the va technology

From the data which I know its overclocked as same as the asus or acer. The samsung has native 100 From which I also read. On the hp site you also can read / see that hps native refresh rate is 60hz

No, I don't had any ghosting issues, "only" the VA typical smearing Problem in GtB (Grey to Black). But I have to say it's hard to hit 100 Hz with a GTX 970 :P I had 100 FPS In Borderlands and no Issues. I'll give you a feedback in 20 Minutes after testing 100 Hz with G-Sync in CS GO.

Yeah I will test, but this aspect ratio isnt really for me :P Even game support should be pretty difficult I think? With the "full hd" ppi I dont have a problem. But maybe I will change my mind... we will see. I have to check if there already the price is released

Great review man. I considered the premium ultrawide market and settled on the hp omen and i love it. The feature that i was attracted to that set itself apart from the other ones you mentioned in the beginning of the video was its non-aggressive, sleek design. I feel like this is the first very well done review of this monitor on youtube. I am shocked the video only has a few thousand views and, as of this comment, only you have only 322 subscribers! Excellent content, keep at it man and hopedully you can corner the monitor review market.

DeCapitan I have to check closer tech specs, especially in the bit depht caus somewhere I read that the acer does not have a true 8 bit panel? I will research soon and order :) From design, I like the acer more and really dont like asus' design ..^^ but it's just personal taste :)
The X34 and Asus PG348Q have EXACTLY the same panel model made by LG, and it is a true 8bit panel but like the Asus is sometimes called a 10 bit panel with dithering.
Thanks for a very in-depth review. I also have an OMEN X 35. It's connected via the supplied Displayport cable to an old-ish Nvidia GTX760. G-Sync is enabled on the monitor and the Nvidia graphics. On the OMEN X 35 the Color Control / Viewing Modes is set for Gaming - FPS. All other monitor settings are at Default values. My sample has noticeable backlight bleed in several areas. With images on screen, however, the bleed isn't noticeable.
Hey, this is typically a "lottery" within all monitors and tv's on the market (blb, clouding, ips glow etc.) If the blb bothers you to much I would send back and change the monitor if your in general happy with the omen

Sure Thunder, I got mine on Monday. So I've had a good couple days to put it through the paces. I gotta say. It's a beast of a monitor... It's going to take a good calibration ( I used an i1 Display Pro) , but after that, it's off to the races. It's got excellent color, contrast, and response times. Runs a smooth 100hz and Gsync, on mine at least, works just fine. Something I was very worried about initially. I've played videos, movies, Fallout 4, and Mass Effect Andromeda so far with no problems at all. I'm coming from a Acer Predator XB271HU, no slouch of a monitor, and I'm telling you I'm never going back lol. If your interested, give it some serious consideration. It's got differences from an IPS for sure. They're excellent panels. But if you're like me and tired of BLB, IPS glow, and weak contrast you can't beat it. I think there really needs to be more awareness for this display. It's a sleeping dragon among ultrawides.

Very good and in depth review of this monitor, just what i was looking for. I am currently gaming on a 32" old 60Hz 16:9 IPS TV and it's absolutely horrible. I was hoping something like the LG 38UC99 (3840x1600 @ 75 Hz) would come with G-sync this year, but right now i am actually thinking about getting this monitor, somewhere in June. Hab ihn mir eben bestellt und bin selber, was das Einstellen von Werten angeht, mega unsicher und würde wahrscheinlich selber nicht wissen, was mir besser gefällt. Sowas wie 2,2 Gamma oder Level 3 Dings z.B. :D

Ich habe mir den Monitor vor ca. 1 Jahr gekauft, bin echt zufrieden. Nun ist mir bei Battlefield 1 in dunklen/graulastigen Szenen ein Effekt aufgefallen und zwar bildet sich bei Bewegung ein leichtes Gitter über den ganzen Bildschirm und es flackert leicht. Ist das normal? Bei statischen Bilder hab ich keine Probleme.
@@LimsCave Mit der 1080ti habe ich nahezu konstant 100 fps bei 100 Hz. Overdrive bei 3, also Standard. Bei abgeschalteten Gsync sehe ich das Gitter auch. Komischerweise ist mir das Gitter anfangs nicht aufgefallen, kann das mit der Zeit kommen? Kann man ein Defekt ausschließen?

@@calebdrake3544 Yup! Had it for 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it. I had to initially adjust from using an IPS monitor for years prior, but with a few tweaks, it has been pretty freaking amazing especially for the price considering even good spec freesync monitors are around this price as well.

I didn't have tested yet the Agon, both are using the same panel, so the difference shouldn't be really huge tbh
Lims Cave the aoc have 2000:1 contrast ratio and hp omega have 2500:1. The difference is perceptible? Both have 100hz natives? Thank you!
The Omens contrast ratio is also more about 2000-2100 (at least on my unit, and it, of course, will differ in each individual unit) I wouldn't say that the difference is visible between 2000 and 2200 especially because of the VA Glow

As the HP Omen is way cheaper than the Alienware AW3418DW: Which one would you suggest? This HP Omen or do you still recommend the Dell Alienware? I am currently stuck between the two and the price is a big plus for the HP Omen, however I like the design of the Alienware more and you get 3 years of warranty ( vs. 1 year for the HP)...

I got the X35 this week as a gift from my Employee. Started this thing today but noticed a "darker" band around the edges. No clue if this is normal but was looking at your video, it looks like you have it also... Can you or anyone explane this darker/lighter issue? Is it to do with backlighting? Thanks for the answer

I had this Omen and just wasn't blown away like I thought I would be. I returned it and purchased the Samsung CJ791. I was expecting to be blown away with this one too but I was not. I guessed qdot tech would be so awesome, but alas I guess I am a tad bit underwhelmed by all of theses really high priced monitors. I kept the Samsung and am putting it through its paces. I may feel different after a month with this major monitor purchase. We will see :(

But i am really dissapointed about you haven't showed anything about the biggest issue, the 48ms BTG response time. You could have shown us something about that and talked about it a bit more. 48ms is a pretty big value to just say you just can notice it on Steam and such.

Thanks :) I tried, but It's super hard to see on game content. I also recorded Steam while moving and scrolling in the shop etc and It's much less noticeable on camera, even on 60fps. I also tryed to record this in a special scene in alan wake (in a prison) where I just walked around right and left, but even here the overdrive lag was like no visible. I could make a black box in photoshop behind a grey background, but thats of course the worst case and I think if people would see this, they would think that all dark games would look like this, and this is not the case.... So it's not that easy >.>
Yeah you are right it must be pretty difficult to pick on camera. To me, on an ultrawide monitor it is mandatory to get this go as low as possible.
I had the the CF791 last week and returned it. The curvature was a nice touch but the 1500R provoked the colour shift of the VA panels to be visible in the sides on 2 cm. it was very annoying as well as 14ms panel and lack of G-sync, that's why I moved to the Omen.
In anycase your review was really great and looked at everything I look at :)
Kudos for the fact that you looked at "matte" coating of the panel. Personally I prefer the semi matte of the Omen, but 100% matte is a no go !
Like I mentioned, on the hp, as well you can see on video, he also suffers from color shifting. I couldn't compare to the CF791 right now (not that much budged :P - but hopefully in future I can order some more models to get also a direct comparison within a video) Strange is, that even my old sony 40w4000 full hd tv has one of the best viewing angles that I have seen in VA panels (no LED).
I also don't like these aggressive matt panels.

My best guess is that the coating of those monitors are amplifying the effect, on the CF791, it looked like there was a more important than usual gap between the coating and pixels. I have the feeling that this played a role in that. when I tried to clean the coating as some foam residue was on it, I could see some things going on with the soft pressure.
whatever, I know now that 1500R curvature is not compatible with VA planels, the shift even in the middle is there in the angles. since it was only on 1/2 cm min, I think the 1800R curvature will avoid that.
But you are right of course, it is a VA issue.

I could be really more worse with the 1800r curvature, hopefully I also will have the chance to compare :) Nevertheless, the silver shine glossy thing in the omen hopefully will not bothers you that much as me. Its just strange that va tvs dont suffer under this hard viewing angles of monitors, even when go directly in front of the tv.
We will see, it would interest me what you will think about thr omen when you get ur exemplar, esecially in viewing angles and color shifting, cause you already hat the samsung so its even more interesting :)

I think the Asus might be a little bit better but the differences wont be huge. Personally I definitely would prefer the acer x34p or the alienware aw3418dw just because the overall image quality is better

@@davidcohas7951 they are good alternatives if you necessarily want an ultrawide Panel. Im not a real VA fan within monitors (I Love VA at tvs) so I personally would also prefer a 16:9 IPS or even a ultrawide full hd IPS ... I cant stand the VA Glow but there are also many people who dont really see the VA Glow as a problem. In bright image content everything is perfect (as well as in a brighter environent) otherwise you always will See the glow and color shift:)

I used calibration hardware. The one and only thing you can do without hardware calibration is to lower the gamma in your graphics card setting with some test screens like or tools like this (sorry coudln't find in English): www.eizo.de/monitortest/ -> Choose only gamma and click on "test starten"
Explanation: Change the grayscale of the logo using the slider until the logo fuses with the background as much as possible. The displayed value corresponds to the gamma value of your monitor. So you set that Gamma value in the tool which you aim for and change gamma settings in the monitor OSD. If they don't "hit" your desired gamma value then you have to change within your graphics card settings. I hope this will help
An real optimum for color temperature does not really exist, while some ppl prefer a warmer some a cooler temperature. You dont neet to calibrate colors for games since games does not read ICC profiles

Hey man, it was a great review really, today i bought for myself from Otto with a discount with 599 Euro. So after I got the monitor first thing i will do is to set the gamma to 2.2, and then ? Should I do another setting for colors ? And do you know any fix that HP launched for the overdrive lag you mentioned under Response Time at 24:00 of the video ?
You should check the hp page for a patch maybe ( But Ive heaed that they have fixed this issue) you should set your prefered brightness settings and then the whitepoint/color temperature (rgb settings) After that tweak the brightness again a bit while while the more rgb settings you reduce, the dimmer the Monitor and the weaker the Contrast will be.
@@LimsCave Hello again, from nvidia panel, I decreased the brightness to 35 but i havent increased the gamma to 2.2, for me gamma is 1.2 , otherwise all details are lost. How you manage to keep gamma at 2.2 ? Is it needed ? Even if I make the brightness 0, Gamma with 2.2 it looks worse.

All panel tech's have it's own problems (pros and cons) So it's up to you which "issue" or "disatvantage" bothers you the least

But I would not recommend using others ppl ICC profile because each panel differs in terms of the color temperature, gamma as well as brightness settings and color accuracy (deltaE deviations).

wobble not noticeable? lol when i type that thing wobbles, when i move my mouse, it wobbles, is crappy. i have to lean it to my second monitor so it wont move.
Eduardo De Leon We also figured out that some units even does not stay in position when adjusting in height. But I couldnt notice any wobble while typing or even noving the mouse o_O

You can wait your whole life for new tech :) I don't think that oled gaming monitors will come this or even next year. The next big thing is direct led, which we have since some years @ televisions. Blacks and colors like I mentioned in the video, great. Colors suffer on this model a bit in viewing angles. At games, you will see this mostly only on darker image content, combined with the "glossy silver shine" effect. Consider, that some people who rated the monitor for example on amazon, even don't mentioned problems @ viewing angles. So it depends on you, how strong you will see them.
mms medo Dell Is the only company making OLED monitors and they are fucking expensive lol so we will have to wait for a while
+ 60 Hz without Freesync / G-Sync. I mean with 100+ Hz without that feature is ok but 60 Hz in a game without any sync also is pretty bad. Otherwise a hdr oled tv would do the same job for a cheaper price with a larger screen, but the input lag actually on the oleds is pretty bad. Maybe sony does it better? I don't know, im not that up to date in detailed informations in actual tv

Yeah :) I had an oled tv, for games it was pretty good ( only the 60 hz bothers me ). For movies I don't liked it that much. In future I will make a OLED video guide and tell you why OLED is not perfect for "NOT" hdr movies... :)

morgen kommt schon der dritte. hatte bisher den benq xl2730 und zz den mg279q - leider P/L beides nicht zu friedenstellend (war zunächst happy das der asus keine toten pixel hatte, dafür blb starken glow und was mich am meisten gestört hat, das fette clouding fast in der mitte des monitors, was beim surfen einfach scheiße ist)
Ohje :/ Ja, vor allem bei den 16:9 IPS Modellen hat man ziemliche Probleme mit dem Glow. Für mich ist das unerträglich, aber hatte wie gesagt noch nicht das Vergnügen einen mit "wenig" Glow zu haben, falls es sowas überhaupt gibt :) Welches Modell ist denn jetzt dein dritter Anlauf? Ja die Fostex sind super :) Hatte versucht auch Brainwavz Pads drauf zu packen aber dann haste nen komplett anderen Sound.
PS: Kopfhörer und Monitore bzw Bildschirme sind so die meisten Themen mit denen ich mich beschäftige, danach Lautsprecher :)

Habe wegen deinem Review den Omen geholt und nebenbei jetzt noch Predator X34A und weiß nun nicht welchen ich behalten soll... das IPS Panel ist wirklich toll aber das Display ist kleiner und das curved nicht so stark was einen nicht so sehr eintauchen lässt wie das Omen Display mit der stärkeren Krümmung.
Gib mir einen Rat Bzw Tipp bitte :).

Was ist denn mit dem Alienware AW3418DW? Curved is mehr vorhanden, IPS Glow ist weniger, 120Hz.... Der Acer war ja nen richtiger schnapper. Okay ob sich die Preiserhöhung zum Alienware von 350€ lohnt sei mal dahingestellt. Kommst du denn mit dem IPS Glow vom Acer klar? Wenn ja, würde ICH den Acer behalten, sonst den Omen (wobei der VA Glow auch hier ziemlich sichtbar ist, also farbveränderung je nach blickwinkel, genau so wie gamma shift)
Lims Cave Ja, der Alienware ist super! Hat der eine größere Krümmung als der Acer? Naja habe ihn wie gesagt für 650 als top b Ware bekommen und den Alienware findet man nirgends gebraucht oder ähnliches, nur neu für 999 Euro und das ist schon ein großer Aufpreis.
Den Omen habe ich zurück gesendet weil die bessere Blickwinkelstabilität gepaart mit dem deutlich weniger auftretende schmieren mir dann doch wichtiger war als die 1 Zoll mehr und das mehr an curved. Ebenso ist die Farbwiedergabe vom Acer deutlich besser als vom Omen wie ich finde.
Also ich habe jedoch recht starke blacklight bleed beim Acer links oben.. wenn ich aufs Panel drücke am Rand, dann verstärkt sich das extrem aber man muss ja nicht drauf drücken :). Dieser Silver shine Effekt war auch recht stark zu sehen beim Omen.. leider. Für 1000 Euro Neupreis finde ich den nicht wirklich akzeptabel.

aldeen1982 Der Acer sollte auch wie der Asus pg348q noch scanlines haben, aber wenn sie dir nicht auffallen umso besser. Es kommt auch immer drauf an ob du in dunkler Umgebung spielst und eben wie stark dich der IPS Gloe und BLB beim Acer stört. Wenn dir der Aufpreis es nicht wert ist dann behalt den x34a. Die krümmung beim Alienware sollte so sein wie beim Omen (1800R ) habe ich zumindest im Kopf :)

And maybe more problems with pixel inversion, we don't know

Patrick Kühn naja ist schon ein guter unterschied würde ich sagen. Genau wie zum pg348q beispielsweise. Ich mag die blickwinkel vom omen leider gar nicht aber es gibt eben auch viele die keinerlei probleme damit haben

You handle the topics very well and I'm very happy that you covered the viewing angles in such detail. I'm currently using an EIZO Foris FS2331 with a VA panel, but it's time for an upgrade, and I'm looking for an ultra wide. Your review made me check the viewing angles on dark content on my EIZO and I noticed the same artifacts you mention on the OMEN, although with it's small screen size, it's not manifesting when sitting right in front of the EIZO. The only thing that bothers me more currently is the "ghosting" of darker contrast content in games, creating trails of black. I didn't clearly notice those in your video review, are they also annoying on the OMEN?
The Omen does not have Ghosting, maybe you mean smearing (grey to black response time). Cause all VA panels suffer under a bad gtb response time. Do you use the 240 stobe on the Eizo? If yes, this could also be a reason why producing ghosting. Smearing actually is good noticeable at test images, in game I don't had issues with it. You have to notice that 100 Hz also causes more blure than your eizo with 120 Hz, probably (I don't know if the Eizo has some overdrive settings, I wanted to buy one 1-2 years ago, but was sold out ^^)
I would not use the Omen for e-sports. For Singleplayer with ultrawide support its awesome, especially 3rd person games

Yes, the difference between the terms "ghosting" and "smearing" were not clear to me. It was very clear on my VA panel when playing Fallout 4 and Pillars Of Eternity when blacks transitioned to red brown colors.
I think you might be referring to the EIZO FG2421: gaming.eizo.com/products/foris_fg2421_de/, with the 240Hz strobe, but mine is an older VA model, the FS233: www.eizoglobal.com/support/db/products/model/FS2331
A pretty outdated model... ;-) The overdrive settings on mine now are set to standard.
My main use is single player games, or MMO's, nothing competitive.
You also peeked my interest in the upcoming Z35P, ... although the OMEN looks way more pleasing for me. I'm not into screaming gaming designs but I would put that aside if the Z35P tackled some of the OMEN issues...

Hmm, actually we cannot say how superior the 200hz will be in comparison to the omen :/ Im also not a fan of these gaming designs aka acer and asus (pg348q) In the end it's your decision. You also can wait for HDR but we dont know how long :) while 4k and 144hz is not the perfect combo especially in 27" in m opinion, I wished they would release a wqhd one with hdr and direct led or even an ultrawide :P but most people just wanted this combination.
Well my hunt for a new monitor started around 9 months ago ... I kept searching because new, more interesting ones got announced. I'll have to decide at some point or I'll grow old with my current monitor... ;-)

tsampaola Hey, well I wouldnt use the omen for fps (maybe for sigleplayer fps but not online shooters) I mean, you have an ultrawide so you will have probably the same experience without tearing. If you prefer image quality over your s2716dg 144 hz smoothness then its maybe ok, so you already have the experience and you can imagine how it could be with g sync. I personally wouldnt cause I prefer really 144hz or rather ulmb / backlight strobing for fast games. Maybe the omen also has a bit more input lag compared to your dell. Switching from ips to va I think also is not that easy cause of the viewing angles, its hard to say if you can deal with it :) yeah i should try make 15 min videos but its really hard. The problem atm it for example I have to make some videos for viewig angles for example, so i dont have to repeat everything in my reviews :) I will try my best to make them more comoact, thanks dude :)

tsampaola Thanks man :) Yeah I know what you mean and I know most will not watch the whole video, for this i made "capitles" so there can switch to the topics what they want to know.I hope really I can make them a bit shorter really but it's really not that easy^^ I can make viewing angles shorter, greyscale, cut the downscaling part and make a seperate video, cut the monitor specifications into the "intro" etc. I will try :p but as next km reviewing the eizi foris fs2735 and hell this monitor has so much options in thr ost + the smartphone option which adds again some few minutes :D I have to find a new structure to make this more compact, maybe talk faster haha
Well, In your case I also would wait probably for other releases. Maybe hdr ultrawide options or 144 hz ips options infutre, but I think this wouldnt be a big upgrade for you, the tearing on the dell probably is the biggest issue you have atm. Even the image quality of the omen really is superior but the viewing angles makes the general image quality a bit worse. notice, some people who bought the omen tells me they dont feel disturbed by the va glow / viewing angles :) it really depends in you even there are people who says this or this one is better, its absolutely bullshit in my opinion, we all have other priorities

Omen and z35p have biggest curve radius and I kinda like omen stan and looks. Is omen native 100hz? And it is most expensive one of the four. Oh did they fixed that when monitor is sliding down when is on set on highest height?
Hey, yes the Omen has native 100Hz. You also can wait a bit for new releases (like the Dell Alienware for example) limscave.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=113&p=273#p273 with IPS and 120 Hz. But for now, we cannot say how good the Dell will be. I really like the omen, even it has some issues, but viewing angles are very poor compared to other VA panels, you should keep this in mind. My monitor doesn't slide down, I think this can vary which means: some stands are better fixed than others. The image is very different to the Asus/Acer IPS. t because of the VA glow a more "gleaming" screen. In Dark souls III, for example, I liked this. Personally, I would go for the Asus (if you can deal with Asus vertical scanlines), but you will have the yellowish VA glow on all PG348Q and Acer X34A units with the LG panel. I really love ultrawide for gaming (when they support it), but currently, I'm not satisfied with existing models, so I personally will wail until I get one for Games like Witcher 3 etc.
But maybe you are not that sensitive to the VA glow as I am and the Omen or z35p is the perfect monitor for you
I like how minimalistic HP stand is, dont take so much desk space. Asus has terrible yellow in corners. How is overall quality of omen and is there any difference between 100hz and 120hz? I dont know about z35p, heard that it have some overdrive mode and most people are complaining that create ghosting. HP omen dont have those issues and vertical scanlines problem?
UA-cam notifications still broken :( between 100 and 120 hz probably no difference at a VA panel, but I cannot say for sure. I dont saw vertical scanlines on the omen and no ghosting - mostly smearing because of the va technology
Is the cable management clip removable? Can you add video/pictures about included VESA-mount? What's the depth of the monitor with VESA-mount?

so this is overclocked to 100hz out of the box? I thought 100hz is the native refresh rate of this panel?
From the data which I know its overclocked as same as the asus or acer. The samsung has native 100 From which I also read. On the hp site you also can read / see that hps native refresh rate is 60hz
Actually, I recall HP twitting it was 100hz native and a mistake on their site.

Did you experience the ghosting issues many people have been reporting when running G-Sync at 100Hz?
No, I don't had any ghosting issues, "only" the VA typical smearing Problem in GtB (Grey to Black). But I have to say it's hard to hit 100 Hz with a GTX 970 :P I had 100 FPS In Borderlands and no Issues. I'll give you a feedback in 20 Minutes after testing 100 Hz with G-Sync in CS GO.

No Ghosting issues here. But consider the improved input Lag of G-Sync in general. It's not an E-Sports monitor at all
