And that war lead to the Tudors taking the reins of England. Hence she didn't get married because it could have hurt the realm by making it less stable and potentially leading to more civil war, which the last half of the previous century was consumed by. England was very very divided for almost a 100 years prior to her crowning.

She played every suitor like a fiddle and retained her unmarried status for her entire reign. She was extremely intelligent and could outwit damn near anyone. There are multiple reasons why she did this. She was pushed to get married because a monarch without a heir isn’t a true monarch. You can imagine what pressure she was on and if she stood up for herself she would be in big trouble since she could be easily replaced by Mary Queen of Scots

Her determination to remain independent her whole life impresses me. She was in love with a courtier, Rober Dudley, and it is said she had a weakness for handsome young men in her court. But even still, she forsook any relationship with either Dudley or any other man, and (arguably) never experienced sex. She must have felt very lonely at times, and this wasn't a time when women could have the equivalent of a "mistress" like men did, much less a regent queen. She was truly a determined, firm ruler.
I love her she commanded a royal army and navy, never married, used marriage as a strategic component to form alliances with never actually committing to it, and had lover boys on the side. This woman was incredible!

Look, I like Weird History for trying to tell interesting stories, but what constantly makes me want to turn it off is the amazingly lazy job they do at fact checking and how they CONSTANTLY make it seem like the morals of today mattered back then. As for fact checking, or at least sloppiness, there's the moment where they say that when her dad died she took over the throne, like it was easy. It took a good amount of time and a few close calls with an executioner, for her to make it there. As for applying today's morals to these other time periods, Elizabeth was not a control freak for getting mad at her family or ladies in waiting for marrying without her consent. If they were in her service, then they were required BY LAW to get her consent. And if they were relations, same deal. Since everyone in the kingdom was technically her subject, and this is a feudal system so they owe her homage, her great magnets NEEDED to get her permission for marriage alliances because this included a lot of state policy, not just love. Same with Catherine Grey, she was actually in line for the throne (younger sister of Jane Grey, the 9 days queen), so this was a big deal. Elizabeth had hoped to leave that branch of the family to die, and by marrying and having children that produced contenders for Elizabeth's crown. See, this is actually a lot more complicated then her simply being vain and controlling. And THAT IS what makes a good story, not this dumbed down and version that's only purpose is to make the masses gasp at how insane things were back then. At least in this case, it's the equivalent to anti-trust laws now (no monopolies). People don't do crazy stuff just for the sake of doing crazy stuff, usually there's a cultural reason and if you choose to skip that just for the wow factor, then you do everyone a disservice by SKIPPING THE ACTUALLY WEIRD AND INTERESTING PARTS OF OUR HUMAN HISTORY. And that is just lazy clickbait.

Hm. True, lol. That's also how I kinda felt on some parts of the video since I did some research on Queen Elizabeth I back in high school. Since it's history, we're not meant to comment any personal opinions or at least try our darndest not to lol whenever we had to do essays or projects. This is not totally accurate. After King Henry the Crown passed down to his son Edward and then it went to Jane Grey THEN Queen Mary, then Queen Elizabeth. Jane was Queen for only 9 days.
Look up her makup, she had very bad small pox scars, the white lead makup and murcury lipstick would be worn 6-7 days at a time. By the time she was 40 her skin was so scarred and horrible looking she had to cake 1/4 in of makup on to smooth the scars out but they could still be seen, she only allowed flattering paintings to be done, even in old age looking like a monster she was still painted with perfect porcelain skin

Look, I like Weird History for trying to tell interesting stories, but what constantly makes me want to turn it off is the amazingly lazy job they do at fact checking and how they CONSTANTLY make it seem like the morals of today mattered back then. As for fact checking, or at least sloppiness, there's the moment where they say that when her dad died she took over the throne, like it was easy. It took a good amount of time and a few close calls with an executioner, for her to make it there. As for applying today's morals to these other time periods, Elizabeth was not a control freak for getting mad at her family or ladies in waiting for marrying without her consent. If they were in her service, then they were required BY LAW to get her consent. And if they were relations, same deal. Since everyone in the kingdom was technically her subject, and this is a feudal system so they owe her homage, her great magnets NEEDED to get her permission for marriage alliances because this included a lot of state policy, not just love. Same with Catherine Grey, she was actually in line for the throne (younger sister of Jane Grey, the 9 days queen), so this was a big deal. Elizabeth had hoped to leave that branch of the family to die, and by marrying and having children that produced contenders for Elizabeth's crown. See, this is actually a lot more complicated then her simply being vain and controlling. And THAT IS what makes a good story, not this dumbed down and version that's only purpose is to make the masses gasp at how insane things were back then. At least in this case, it's the equivalent to anti-trust laws now (no monopolies). People don't do crazy stuff just for the sake of doing crazy stuff, usually there's a cultural reason and if you choose to skip that just for the wow factor, then you do everyone a disservice by SKIPPING THE ACTUALLY WEIRD AND INTERESTING PARTS OF OUR HUMAN HISTORY. And that is just lazy clickbait.

I've always admired Eliz. I more than any other English monarch. She was one smart, tough, stubborn and did it her own way.....as monarchs did way back when. She rescued her country from wars, religious, political, and international. Way to go Lizzie!!!!!

This is not totally accurate. After King Henry the Crown passed down to his son Edward and then it went to Jane Grey THEN Queen Mary, then Queen Elizabeth. Jane was Queen for only 9 days.

Look up her makup, she had very bad small pox scars, the white lead makup and murcury lipstick would be worn 6-7 days at a time. By the time she was 40 her skin was so scarred and horrible looking she had to cake 1/4 in of makup on to smooth the scars out but they could still be seen, she only allowed flattering paintings to be done, even in old age looking like a monster she was still painted with perfect porcelain skin
