I think AsurorusA is playing off the line "never heard a man speak like this man before" from the song. Which actually works perfectly since TMV is such a distinct sound.
They've ripped quite heavily from Acid Mother's Temple who were doing basically the same thing back in the mid 90s, only with less latin music influences.
Apocalyptic vocals, genuine psychosis, madness, best music skills on Earth and recording that holds that acid 70s spirit. This is the ultimate music paradise.
Sometimes The Mars Volta sound to me like Santana and band are still trapped on that Woodstock stage decades later, locked in some infernal jam session curse.
@Ádám Kanizsai do you have a link to that? Was it in an interview? Also yeah, this song really sounds like parts of the album moonflower by Santana. Awesome music.
Cedric is such a good vocalist. He is constantly adjusting the volume of his voice to the distance between him and the mic so his voice seem to always be on the same volume.
This is a shot to the head, Once you hear that voice combined with that song you are never coming back. If i compare something to the mars volta, becomes so little.... And i mean sooooooo little

They broke up when you were in your teens (they will revisit the project). Don't feel bad, I didn't really get into my favorite band faith no more until well after their breakup. Prog music is a is a developed taste. Check out Omar Rodriguez's "solo" albums. He has a few that feature Cedric on vocals and he uses alot of the revolving door musicians that the mars volta did. He has a huge discography on his own, something like 50 of 60 albums, puts out something like 3 a year. So while the mars volta might be retired, it still lives on

I started to work in a company in 2001 (the year TMV began) and every day I used to listen to the mars volta at the office. On february 2013, the company closed and the mars volta had broken up. Now I'm working in another company, but it's not the same without The Mars Volta around and waiting for new music. Thank God I watched them live once here in Mty.
Great song, great band, awesome live show. Can't wait for them to get out on tour again I'll be keeping my eye on it and will be sure to catch them again.
