Unpopular opinion: Sparta's first album is amazing and better than any Mars Volta's. I never got into Volta but always felt Wiretap Scars is an amazing album.

Perfect reunion timing wise. It was only roughly 10 years after RoC so they still had some youthful punk energy to give as did their core fans. We were still in our 30s. After TMV and Sparta split, we all but lost hope that there could ever be a reunion. Between the 2012 and 2016 shows, I must have gone to like 5 of them because you knew that it was a special time and almost one last celebration of our rapidly fleeting youth. And here we are 10 years later. Viva ATDI, my youth.
It was also when the new album hadn’t come out yet so anybody who saw them live during that stretch got to experience the setlists full of all the bangers. Front row center at the Palladium in LA was one of the best experiences of my life at a show.
Biggest show frustration ever felt. Seen them in 2000. Never heard the voice of Cedric because he was playing with his mic like a lasso. They have so amazing songs.
Compared to his early years, yeah. But at the time his mom passed away, you can grab other ATDI/TMV reunion performances on yt and watch him do a bit more of that wonderful stage presence

at the drive in used to play my town when they first started out as a band (sioux city). my dad used to be an avid party thrower/concert goer. when ever they played a venue here he was always there and was actually able to form a friendship with 2 of the members. they ended up playing one of my dads party’s and he can recall l (i’m assuming the lead singer?) trying to do a backflip off his coffee table and getting into a playful argument that he wasn’t going to do a back flip, he didn’t end up doing a back flip lol.
This was the time Omar's mother passed away and he just wasn't into performing at the time. But Cedric is fucking hilarious in between songs, que chingon! \m/

This band are freakin out there! They make music no one understands but it all sounds killer. I once tried reading the lyrics and it confused the hell outta me. I now understand the technique. It's the sound of the words not the meaning. That's genius level songwriting. Not many people can write lyrics that make no sense on paper but when they're put to music it all explodes. Meat Puppets are one of the only other bands that have been doing it for decades.
I was sitting patiently in Detroit, waiting for my first show 11 year's after finding them in the record store. They canceled the rest of the North America tour while in NY City and flew to Europe. My heart was crushed with no make up dates. I got a call about 6 months later saying their gonna make up the 5 dates. It was a very rewarding experience. Well worth the wait. Thanks for posting!

I equate ATDI as a Steven King novel or some obscure painting that’s yet to be discovered and get huge praise for. Reminds me of a painting that ya you see the painting but Omar’s guitar is like all the colors in the background holding it all together. Simply beautiful
