I had an eye test recently and I find it strangely hilarious that whenever they do those checks with the different lenses, every optician says "better... or worse?" *in exactly the same way* (up-pitch on the "better", down-pitch on the "worse"). It's like when people read football scores :).
I started imaging Summer from rick and morty in the space ship that was trying to "keep Summer safe" when you were talking about AI and win conditions.
In regards to the no vaping, i believe its because Vapes are treated the same as smoking, only allowed in designated safe areas 👉👉 since the rule is in place for cigarettes it carrys through to vapes? Could be wrong tbf
This is entirely correct. I view it as avoiding any potential threats from vaping towards places where kids may interact with them as we still don't know that it is 100 percent safe. Either way, as long as you are respectful and use common sense I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I vape a fair bit myself and follow these rules and don't generally get trouble. It's dumb the level of hate vaping gets when cigarettes will literally give you and others around you cancer and it doesn't recieve as much hate, it's relatively accepted albeit looked at as unhealthy. You don't harass people who are smoking so why are they doing it to people that vape?
Every pflax in the morning makes me wish pflax was a regular vlogger. But if it wasn't an annual treat it might not be so good. Whatever, just good to see Ted in a bathrobe vaping in a hotelroom and ranting.
I think a concept we are missing with AI taking jobs is that current society imposed the ideal that you have to work to provide a living. If certain jobs or field are no longer viable financially due to cheaper alternatives (AI) that money that isn’t spent doesn’t disappear, you will probably just find that governments impose more tax and therefore are able to provide something like a citizen wage where perhaps you don’t have to work to survive but can do if you want to. I think the bigger shift isn’t AI potentially taking jobs but rather the change to the mentality that if you aren’t working you are a burden on society (which technically is kind of true now, but might not be in the future).
Sure, until things such as manufacturing move out of the country for cheaper tax alternatives and erase the entire sector of the economy like what happened in the UK.
What do we need jobs for? Most people don't wanna work, they want the results of work. If the machines do that, it's win win. Of course the problem is that the money might be very unevenly distributed.
Some people in the Midwest get embarrassed when you call it cornhole, preferring the name "bags." Sorry, flyover friends, it's cornhole. Don't be cowards, embrace it.
One of the truly great disappointments in my life is the fact that I never got a picture of the house in Indiana with a giant sign on it that read "CORNHOLE CORNER." I assume they sold cornhole boards from their home, but it was just a regular house with people in it. Watching TV on the couch. With a giant sign over them saying CORNHOLE CORNER.
It will cost jobs, true general AI, but ideally it takes all the jobs at once ( not really all but any large %) then the political solution would be overwhelmingly clear. If it's a slow loss though, we might be fucked, good job trying to get political pressure for redistribution of wealth if only a small number of people are losing jobs over a long time.
The reason being concerned about human-like AI is more justified than being concerned about computers is because a computer is a tool for humans to use, and it just replaced the old tools. A human-like AI would replace the human, not the tool, so it's a completely different issue. As for the tea-making robot, you're right that if you programmed it specifically to end a person's need for tea, it would at the very least consider killing him. Another problem which is a bit more plausible is that if you tried to stop it from making tea, it would kill you and continue making the tea. And if you put a big red button on it to stop it in case it's doing something unethical, it would kill anyone who tries to press it. And if you make letting people press the button more important than making the tea, every time you asked it to make a cup of tea, it would try to kill you because forcing you to press the button is now the optimal strategy. So yeah. Looking forward to welcoming my robot overlords.
Oh, and if you gave it the ability to replicate, it might subjugate humanity and colonize the the galaxy in the hopes of turning the entire universe into a giant tea making machine so they can serve it to their pet humans.
There was a tetris ai that was made, eventually it figured out that if it pauses the game it could never lose. Win/lose conditions are definitely tricky when it comes to ai.
The terrifying part to AI is who creates it , to me at least .. Whilst people will create some with absolute great intent .. Some others mad geniuses might make AIs intentionally harmful .. Like people who create viruses and hackers .. Could be very scary shit ..!
Sorry pflax but hearing you come up with a list of reasons why being told not to vape in the park was stupid was a bit annoying to listen to. Honestly just do what you're told by the man who works there. Even if you disagree and it's something so trivial just have the respect to say "OK fair enough"
You're looking at automated "everything" future the wrong way. The main argument for it is that, there will be "No More Useless Job", because everything will be handled by AI. Human then can pursue more rewarding or creative endeavors, with/without AI help. Things like humanitarian effort, creative endeavors to enrich our cultures, etc, etc. These are then the "Jobs" people need to search for, it's much more rewarding and fulfilling, while every mundane tasks/job is automated. The main concern is then only the AI revolt and robots taking over, but eh.. whatever. I welcome our robots overlords Also Flax, if you saw this personally, ask Draskyl to unban me from his twitch. I got on the skin of a mod coz I flamed his dota play in chat, and then the chat just turned on me, when I defended myself, another mod just permabanned me lol. Have a nice TI, Pyrion, and everyone watching.
ROBE ACQUIRED! Now we can really start TI.
Pflax in a bathrobe is what I envision when I think of TI
I'm not even kidding, I really enjoy these morning talks alot. Plus, the gown does make all the difference... :)
🅱️ritish man talks about Dota 2 (GONE SEXUAL)
I'm down for that gown.
Sure, Will Brown.
This is genuinely my favorite part of TI. I wish you did a morning show all year round.
The robe hath returned
I had an eye test recently and I find it strangely hilarious that whenever they do those checks with the different lenses, every optician says "better... or worse?" *in exactly the same way* (up-pitch on the "better", down-pitch on the "worse"). It's like when people read football scores :).

R O B E B O Y S
An entire buss of people singing Queen? Welcome to Canada Pflax ;) Also, i can definitely tell your in Canada from that crosswalk chirping sound.
Really enjoying these Ted, have fun at TI!
I'm glad you got your robe Pflax!

This is interesting actually as in the UK in the past few days they've been discussing almost encouraging vaping to reduce smoking

Cornhole is great, though sometimes it's just called beanbag toss. Though throwing an axe is a much more unique opportunity.
Morning Pyrion = Best Pyrion
I don't like dota i don't like esports that much tbh but these videos, just every time love em keep it up

OD Pixel doing Queen songs karaoke! Everyone loving it but Synd! Beautiful stuff Flax, many thanks.
Are we gonna get a Triforce 'The International' special.
There's a surprising lack of rice talk on this show.
Name is correct Stanley park. Should check out the brewery there if you ever have time
You haven't shown us the view out the window
Maybe vaping attracts smokers? And i don't feel like being out there all day saying no smoking etc.
ah, best time of the year. PFlax in his robe, vaping and talking bs
This video contained fairly good anecdotes.
Robe acquired. Now we can get down to business boys!
Honestly these are some of my favorite bits of content from ti. Really puts me in the ti mood.
pflax is the man
It will cost jobs, true general AI, but ideally it takes all the jobs at once ( not really all but any large %) then the political solution would be overwhelmingly clear.

More ramblin in bathrobes pls. Gettin ready for that hourlong pyrion podcast where you chat shit and nonsense for my own enjoyment. Thanks xoxo
It's simple have SirActionSlacks throw axes at the robot overlords when they start to take over.
hey pflax could you positiom your camera angle next to the window
Sounds like PFlax literally went to Specsavers
You still haven't shown us the view from your window, whatever it is.
What do you think of Universal Basic Income (UBI) to combat the job losses from AI?
That one dislike triggers me
Dw i disliked it again
Can't wait to see you "mouth click* sharp for TI.
But did you get a cup of tea tho? That's the important thing!

These vids are a sacred pre TI ritual for me at this point
SYND LUL
I saw a student car burn, and two cars beside it burn, from a mod. Vape. rig... I've seen a car burn to the ground due to vaping
Do you drink many pints at TI pflax ?
This reminded me of a similar discussion about automation and capitalism that you and Lewis had on a Pillocks of Eternity episode.
holy shit at the start I thought Welcome to the Machine had just started playing somewhere in the background 'cause of the wind/car noise.
If you could weaponize this rambling you'd be halfway to a stand-up comedy tour.
There was a tetris ai that was made, eventually it figured out that if it pauses the game it could never lose. Win/lose conditions are definitely tricky when it comes to ai.
U look older without glasses
It's like solo triforce , love it
