"How are people living?" I know things have gotten bad but it's really sobering to hear someone from the UK being able to say I've been to America before and I can look around and tell it's gotten worse.
PFlax in the morning is the lighthouse on the shore in these dark times. It is the safe harbour that I know will always be waiting for me after a year on the rough seas. It is my white whale, expect I don't resent the whale and I can always catch it without any trouble and sell it for lots of money and feed my family and buy some replacement Airpods.
As an American, I had the opposite experience when I recently went to Portugal. I was amazed at how cheap things were and how easy it was to just walk or rent a scooter to get somewhere.
As a portuguese, this is not true for locals at all. Theres so many tourists that the big cities are basically built for foreigners at this point, minimum wage there cannot even pay rents let alone live. And most people earn around min. wage. Love the bikes in Lisbon tho and glad you enjoyed it!
Can we also agree, that even though Pflax, from everything I've seen is a lovely person, and has the self deprecation of any good Englishman worth his salt. That you do have talent/a talent, your ability to communication with people, to speak to camera, to speak fluently about a subject, in a dynamically changing set of circumstances, and many more things besides (and never forgetting the PTI, Poker Tournament Internationalé). That Mr Flax, you are worth being brought out to the States for, and even though Talent maybe a bit gaudy, is perfectly legitimate. And I trust your friends dont really mean it with the put downs.... you are grand sir! I continually enjoy your streams and points of view, and I hope it goes on for a very long time to come :)
Yeah, homeless population exploded while cost of living skyrocketed it's an awful combo. Seattle area is really bad, its sorta better as you radiate out.
You are talented at what you do, which is why you got the job. Simple. If you had no talent, you wouldn't have been invited to TI for the last 80 years.
I live outside Seattle (bellevue) and have been doing a ton of traveling lately and I can say without a doubt, Seattle has the most expensive food in the country. Even outside Seattle you can't really get an order of takeout for under $18 for one dish.
I'm living up in Seattle, Uber and beer sound about right, but that Uber eats order fleeced you, damn! Some places charge like crazy on delivery apps around here.
The cost of living in big cities in California is vastly higher than most of the U.S., which is why you pay so much for everything there. You just happen to be visiting a little bubble where the cost of living skyrocketed, which is why there's so much homelessness there. Fortunately, it's not like that in most of the country. Some people like to blame it on the liberal (for the U.S.) state government there, but I think the most probable explanation is that the concentration of tech companies competing to offer the highest salaries reached a critical mass that started a chain reaction of the businesses serving the residents raising their prices to match the higher salaries, and the salaries getting higher to counter the cost of living that raised to match the salaries.
To give a comparison, I'm in a small city at the moment, and entrees and sides for four people from a good hotel restaurant on DoorDash was $60, and I felt bad for spending that much on food. You could not possibly spend $80 on 10 wings and 3 sides here if you tried
Uber eats/similar are a scam. Often your order will be 2x as much as if you got it yourself. You're still right about the prices generally being high. Inflation sucks and the PNW cost of living is really high.
I used to do snus for years, but eventually I just noticed, the stuff takes my sleep away and makes me more anxious. But I guess I used it like over 15 years almost or something. The thing with it is tho, it was rather easy to give up for me, I just quit one day and never did it again. But yea I would say if you do nicotine, snus is one of the better options, because it's not annoying for other people.
Those are nicotine pouches, not snus. The difference is it's not tobacco while snus is. Also it's the Swedes that do snus mainly, but I dunno how much its done in Norway and Denmark. What i do know is Finland is not part of Scandinavia, doesn't have snus legally sold, but does have nicotine pouches since recently, but neither is common. Anyway that "You don't snus you lose" is a hell of a slogan and i'm sure it would get everyone on it if it was broadcast in America at least!
As a finn, I'm painfully familiar with snus. I don't use it and I hate sounding condescending when I say i absolutely detest it. Atleast the snus these days doesn't drill into your nasal cavity, but you can definitely tell when someone uses the stuff. Glad it doesn't' go to your lungs, but you do still get the fantastic yellow teeth and bad breath. People traffic that stuff illegally from sweden cause it's way cheaper that way. My mates that use the stuff describe getting a "buzz" from how much nicotine is in the stuff. It's nuts.
Since the pandemic my company has gone fully work from home and a lot of the people who worked in the Seattle offices moved to Thailand and Vietnam. They were only lived there for work so they had no reason to stay in Seattle anymore.
Please don’t judge America by Seattle, we don’t pay that for a meal in the south, it is more expensive than when you came last time but it’s not that bad here
i was in Seattle for work in 2018 and found the cost insane even back then. Company gave us 50 USD per deim, but breakfast alone would cost like $25. Pretty sure I blew through my expenses every day. I've never felt so poor before and be fully employed. Also noticed the extremes of very visible poverty and weath (and i live in London!). Sad to hear that its got worse. Seattle seemed like a great city in many ways at the time. Amazing food esp sea food.
Any tips for jetlag when flying east? Whenever I fly from the US back to Europe, I am wrecked for several days, if not more than a week. Would love to hear some PFlax wisdom on that one!
America's homelessness problem is also a reflection of the fact that they apparently dont have any state-run asylums, so all the people that dont have families to support them often really have no choice, they end up living on the street, and drugs are the easiest way to cope with situations like that, and for many- the only choice
Weird thing to get mad about. Disliking a term is fine, at a theological level, but getting mad at a person for using a word how it's used colloquially is such a strange thing.
Changing my newborn to this. Thanks for the entertainment PFlax

Haha watching from Lagos and can confirm! Feel sorry for the resident Portuguese though. Airbnb is slowly killing the heart of the main cities.

The Zynns really do help get through these long hauls.
Love ya Flax

I was living in Seattle during the summer of 2018 and was stunned by the amount of homeless people in the city. Crazy to hear it's only gotten worse
I love it so much when you tell things and situation about the location of the international. That could also be part of the main event somehow.
The more I watch these the more I think I’m in a cult. Worship the robed egg man.
Once again promising to keep doing them and we'll all have a good laugh when inevitably at like day 4 it ends xD
who the hell gets mad at the word talent?

Flax, you are talent and so is anybody else with that badge. We're here for a reason brother.
You are talented.
$80 is a rip off. You could go to a KBBQ buffet for 2 people here in Atlanta for that much.
I'm living up in Seattle, Uber and beer sound about right, but that Uber eats order fleeced you, damn! Some places charge like crazy on delivery apps around here.

Shame home owners don’t want mixed zoning or apartments nor mass transit near them there.
You are a man with talent you are talent dont sell yourself short talent man
You are the talent though.
Over $80, sweet Jesus. What has happened to fast food prices
80 dollars is bloody absurd
Uber eats/similar are a scam. Often your order will be 2x as much as if you got it yourself. You're still right about the prices generally being high. Inflation sucks and the PNW cost of living is really high.
Just checked my local Korean chicken shop, the cost of what you listed is eqv. $8.50 ... it's nuts that it cost 80 odd there!
"How are people living?" We aren't, we're struggling.
dont worry about everything being so expensive, we've got lots of billionaires, great trade off there
We need these bathroom robed appearances to stay sane, in these difficult times.

I thought your takeaway order would be £15, maybe £20. It was £65+. Mental.
DAY 2! Keep up the good work flax.
i was in Seattle last week, at a hotel $20 for 1 cocktail with a tip.
Talent = person being filmed
Crew = people behind camera 😅
We were all spoiled by cheap food delivery and cheap ride shares in the past. Unfortunately, that is a thing of the past.
dota? TI? not a clue but listening to PFlax? yes please.
You make me want to buy a dressing gown.
Thank you Dad
thanks for the talent pflax. we met several times over the last TI'S in seattle sorry to hear about the city going to shite
Dont do snus kids, it will destory your gums.... plz dont. Flax I love you man but dont pimp smoking..... your a rolemodel ;)

Snus completely ruins your gums and teeth, there's a reason the EU banned it everywhere outside scandinavia. It's pretty bad for you :/
It isn't TI without PFlax in the morning ❤❤❤
Flax is speaking true wisdom in this episode

Your friends sound insecure if they're pissy about the word talent
25 bucks without tip .. holy shit 80dollars tf
Ah yes, snus, for if you absolutely, positively, want to give yourself the best chance of mouth cancer.
banned in a lot of countries for a reason
The only place I like to see pflax more is in faerun with Lewis and sips in the middle of a BG3 campaign.
wow you're so talented
Mornin'
I LOVE YOU PFLAX

Best part of the year. :)
Fckn love these
here we go
"Talent" is short for on-screen talent. It just means you're in front of the camera. It doesn't imply that offscreen talent doesn't have talent
I just got onto that snus stuff. The 2dot velo too. That stuff is sick, helping me cut down on smokes
Yes Pyrion! Snus is the way my friend.
A camera that is also a man?! Poppycock!
nice chain
i am watching this in the evening
man I really love this time of year

The rest of the world finding out about snus when Scandinavia have been using this stuff for ages.
Weird thing to get mad about. Disliking a term is fine, at a theological level, but getting mad at a person for using a word how it's used colloquially is such a strange thing.
Hey dave how do i get board game?
