I can confirm he was hilarious even if you weren't high. He really was brilliant and influential. Humor is often about context and timing. And as we used to say "I guess you had to be there." I was just a kid, but he was like no one else, in the best possible ways. And even now, he's funnier on the spot than most people are with a month of prep.
Today I learned that seatbelt buzzers and hand dryers were new inventions 50 years ago. Also, ONLY $15 for a Vegas show? I'm guessing Ticketmaster wasn't around yet.
I think Martin was still finding his stand up "voice" at this point. This performance was 4 years before his "Wild and Crzay Guy" album. He's mostly doing observational humor in this clip as opposed opposed to the goofy surreal, glib, ironic comedy he eventually became famous for.
@@markstevenson6635 That's because it was new, and they had never seen that kind of performance before. You say the same about old comedies in general. They were new, and therefore they were successful. Once that "comedy barrier" had been broken, that kind of comedy became banal, old hat, passé.....stale.
This is so bad and unfunny it makes you cringe :-) So not funny and the audience is even worse acting like OMG this is the funniest thing I've ever seen LOL
And...OMG ..BOWFINGER, W EDDIE MURPHY HAD ME ROLLING ON THE FLOOR 😂😂😂😂🎉❤

a cop pulls me over. And he goes, 'Hey, are you small?' I said, 'No, I'm tall, I'm tall.' He said, 'Well, I'm gonna have to measure you.' 🤣

Not until 1976
Concerts were 4.00
The internet is a hard audience.
This was great, seeing his routine before his silver-haired "Well excuuuuse ME!" superstardom.
Watch Steve Martin predict the future. Great clip!
Googlephonics
I think Steve expanded the “buying cardboard” joke later (and made it funnier) by adding he needed to keep the three tons of it in his apartment.
Yes, my gosh we know these jokes by heart. Treasured memories!
Too bad he didn't do much with his careeer😮😂❤
He’d be great in a king tut movie.
Back in the days when people laughed at anything and there wasn't profanity every other word.
Comedians were actually funny back then, not just profane.
Did you guys take off for New Year's week ? I was hoping we would get the next full episode -- hosted by Redd Foxx !
My favorite is his king tut
Wow! Usually Steve is hysterical. I don't know what happened here.

The crowd enjoyed it

Open collars and chest hair were all the rage in the 70s.
Spiked hair, tattoos, Pee Wee Herman suits with red tennis shoes, balloon lips all the rage now.
Haha My Car Said too Me While Leaving the Vehicle Can I Help You Yea
Not his best stuff.
I don’t find it funny
NOT FUNNY
Not very funny here. The act improved later.

and you think dane cook is funnier?
It's ridiculous more than obvious. That was Steve's thing. Funny in an unfunny way. See Andy Kaufman too.
He’s fortunate this isn’t the Gong Show 😂
