@lonesomecrow And he was the ONLY impersonator Elvis said that about. No one did it like Andy, with the funny stuff, and then becoming Elvis. It was hilarious, and he was good. There weren't many back in the day, but from all I have read, I don't think Elvis cared for them and wished for them to do their own thing. This from a letter he wrote, very, very sweetly to a young person asking him what he thought of him doing an impersonation. Elvis could not have been kinder in telling him what he thought. He was very delicate not to hurt his feelings.

A great bit. The variety shows, talk shows and holiday specials of the past were great platforms for up and coming artists to get exposure. His sense of humor for the 70s and early 80s was ground breaking for that time, at least in the mainstream media. As teens we knew that he was probably going to offend someone, but we felt this refreshing to a certain degree.
He made me want to do Elvis impersonation around the house when I was 12/13 on up and watch Taxi..also made me an Elvis fan starting then,my parents was country fans only.
Audience butt of the joke? Never heard this. There was no butt of the joke. It was pure funny entertainment, unlike anything out there.
October 4th Friday 2024 Andy Kaufman made me smile this whole time I was just about to squall because of something I read about a person singing Blue eyes crying in the rain to his dying son and then I turned here and my smile just automatically came on when I saw Andy I was too young to remember you Andy but you did a great job and I sure do enjoy watching you
No one watching this in 1976 would have imagined that Elvis would be gone in less than a year and Andy would die at a younger age than Elvis.
The day Elvis died I found a National Lampoon magazine from '76 with the Elvis parody cover in a stack of magazines in my living room. It's been lost to time. Sorry I misplaced it.
And in the year 2021, society has turned to shit. Mostly due to technology and social media.
I was born a year later but wish I was around to appreciate this when it aired.
@Ron Listhaeghe Incorrect... See my comment!👍👍💜🙏
@@Andrew-se6ee You're around to witness EAP (Elvis) is now Pastor Bob Joyce - see my main comment for details... Fyi Mel T is wearing a Morpheus mask - the entire world is going to be ASTONISHED as to her true identity! And... They're not the only ones who are still alive & who've been helping to ensure the survival of children/humanity from behind the scenes! 😊👍👍💯💜❤🇺🇸🙏
These are my favorite clips. Thank you
He didn't just imitate Elvis it was like he transformed into him.
I agree!!! His voice, his movements, his expressions he is Elvis!!!
Absolutely!!!
Lol. So true!
@lonesomecrow what?
There will never be another Andy Kauffman! That kind of originality is sorely lacking these days. What an incredible talent. Such a shame that he left us so soon!
It's crazy to think this was 45 years ago. Man.
But Joe Orton was writing 60 years ago
When I first saw his impression of Elvis, I couldn’t believe how good it was.
Watch him sing Rose Marie
I couldnt believe it either first I saw it as Latka on tv show taxi
I could not believe it either( still can’t! Ha!)! He is a phenomenal Elvis & his singing this song, even talking like Elvis just totally blows me away! Hard to believe he is the same actor from “TAXI!” Wowwww!
@@karenstrycharz1499
He's not singing this. LOL
Yes he is.
Andy's not dead, he just returned to his home planet.
Couldn't tell a single joke yet was one of the greatest comedians ever. Go figure.
Andy never considered himself a comedian, but he sure was funnier than most of them
Where have they gone? Such talent.
Andy Kaufman with no doubt will go down in history as one of the greatest comedians in the world.
Still wonderful and this is November 2024.
Genius! Even though I missed it half the time. Shout out to Van Dyke for understanding and being undervalued comedy guru!
I wish Dick would stop interrupting Andy's show.
"Could you go away and take everything with you?"
@@robertboyce6043 HILARIOUS
Andy was the best Elvis copy to this day.
I LOVED Andy and remember him on able and he was a genius. Simply brilliant
Hello Susan, how are you doing?
I discovered this by accident and now I can’t stop watching it. Brilliant! His Elvis impersonation kills. I love the way he exaggerates the moves & vocals. Hilarious!!😂
@michaelsharpe4415 watch his HBO special. It's on my Andy Kaufman Playlist. He intentionally bombs a lot to set up jokes. It's a really good window into his comedy. (The people he is mean to is in on the act & it's very unknown to the audience) it's one of my favorite specials
Elvis Presley himself said that Andy Kaufman was the greatest Elvis impersonator. This. This, folks, is why.
Just on problem with that statement. Elvis died in 1977. Way before Andy Kaufman was ever on tv.
@@jackhammer3878 he first started doing Elvis on t.v in 1975. And Elvis did say he loved it.
@@jeffreyholmes7216 Really 75 ? I remember him on taxi now and SNL BUT I thought the Elvis thing came much later. My bad.
@@jackhammer3878Well according to the title of this video, this is from 1976, so...
@@modoc97405 Guess the Elvis impersonates going around the time were too many to remember. But ANDY KAUFMAN stood out.
A dry comical guines.
Omg.. utterly brilliant Dick Van Dyke‘s face is a picture of joy at the end.
I think the Andy Kaufman passing just might be the biggest loss to the comedy world ever.
Can you imagine how funny this guy would’ve been in the present era through his eyes and comedy brain.
This show was so good. Really smart writing. Alas, it didn't last long. Thanks for posting.
I didnt get andy as a kid. But have loved ever sincevi grew up. 63.
He was one of the best skilled . Very sad how his life came to a end. I loved jim
Absolute perfection.
Elvis says a great impression of him. You got it.
Great stuff. And as I write this mid September '24, Dick is three months away from his 99th b-day. Keep on keepin' on, Dick !!
Must have been a blast to see Andy at the time, but still is.🤣🤣
A great bit. The variety shows, talk shows and holiday specials of the past were great platforms for up and coming artists to get exposure. Since we had limited channels and choices, these kinds of shows generally had big viewing audiences which could result in a big break for talent. Programming is so fragmented today.
Hadn't noticed it seeing it before but he literally becomes Elvis.
He absolutely does & it just blows me away! He is the best Elvis ever!
@@karenstrycharz1499 There's nothing else to compare it to. It's singularly extraordinary.
Thank you Andy Kaufman. That was wonderful 😍
In retrospect it's easy to say that he was way, way ahead of his time.
Especially with the women's wrestling. That was some unique gifted comedy that not many people got.
48 years later,, I jjust discovered this video...Wow!
