- If you’re making a run at the top spot, you’ve got to take on the alpha-and right now that’s Rolex’s DateJust. It’s been a long time coming, but Omega is finally ready to try and take its crown back from the young pretender, and it’s going to try with this, the Aqua Terra. It’s cheaper-but is it better?

I’ve owned both the Datejust and the Aqua Terra . The Aqua Terra was FAR superior by every measure. As everyone already knows, the Aqua Terra has better specifications, movement, materials, and value, but in addition, it looks INCREDIBLE. I’ve never seen a picture or a video that did it justice. It must be seen in person. And it looks great on so many different straps, bands, and bracelets.
I agree. I own both & selling Datejust 41
I saw the aqua Terra in person yesterday for the first time. Pictures and videos do not do this watch justice. It looked and felt increasingly, very high quality watch indeed.
@@scotdoc Why sell the datejust? its a rolex and a must own classic. Keep both
Just bought a brand new Aqua Terra with silver dial. Got 20 percent off retail at an Omega Boutique. Love this watch.
@@scottdimeler3636 Congratulations! A very fine piece indeed. Terrific discount as well.
that omega aqua terra grey blue dial looks so much better in person than in pictures and videos.
Just purchased the Aqua Terra with the blue dial - passed on the Rolex. I guess that answers the question for me!
You and I are one and the same! Love my Aqua Terra. And I know that with my Omega, it’s not just another number like Rolex, yuck.
I bought Omega seamaster Blue. Eyeing on Aqua terra too.
Screw Rolex. My dad has them i know how tough is it to get them.
Smart buy.
About to trade my oyster perpetual in for an aqua terra skyfall
Good choice. I got the Aqua Terra, too.
I have noticed something: Rolex’s fans are always talking in one style like “it’s Rolex” “Rolex is better” “Rolex has higher resale value” but OMEGA’s fans are talking facts and figures like “15,000 Gauss” “silicon hairspring” “METAS” “bidirectional rotor” etc. This shows that Rolex is not OMEGA and we have to appreciate both philosophy. OMEGA has super great history that unfortunately we didn’t live (50’s and 60’s) but it’s coming back. it took the company 20 years to standup after Quartz crisis. Rolex was so lucky to rely on its financial privilege/strength during the Quartz crisis “as Charity” to take the pole position from OMEGA. For me, I’ll be proud to wear a watch that fought for it’s principles throughout challenges, keep educating its customers about watch industry and provides more options to make each watch closer to the customer’s personality and taste. Devaluing any brands means you are still not up to the right level to compare or criticise their products. As I’m a big fan of 8900 movement, OMEGA wins for me. Thank you guys.
Dapdoi Ardon heeeey, Saying Rolex is the king is a Fact for you as well.. so stop buttbleeding of facts 😂 & try it next time prestigiously
Hmmm for me both brands produce great watches, I have watches from Audemars Piguet Royal Oak to Rolex Daytona, GMT BLNR, Omega Seamaster 300m 2018, quite a few Seikos, Invicta, and Casios. I love them all equally, maybe one more than the others but thats based on the reason why I got to purchase it. But in terms of tangible qualities I love them all equally, like I would be as happy to wear my Casio as I would my Rolex (depending on situation of course, I won't wear my Rolex to do handy work like I won't wear my Casio to a formal dinner) if I didn't feel I would be happy wearing it on a normal day walking around the city, it would not be in my watch box.
I think in terms of Rolex and omega both brands deserve respect, but it's almost inevitable that you have a preference for one brand and that's fine, just don't beat down other brands (unless it's a fake, those don't deserve any humane treatment)
The sole reason I love my omega seamaster 300m (2018) is only because it was a birthday present signifying my 21st birthday. The AP and Daytona, although, like the omega, I didn't buy with my own money, has less sentimental meaning attached to those two amazing watches. I only came to possession because I was either allowed to use it (so I don't actually own it) or I was gifted second hand from my dad because he wasn't interested.
Completely agreed on what you're saying...
Amen to that. 🙏
Thanks for your education. Inspirational
I would do questionable things for that Omega.
Same
questionable would be an understatement.
Gay as hell is here
@@joeshaves2020 Im not gay but a Omega is a Omega
I would too. I would continue working as an overworked, frustrated, and sleep-deprived IT admin for about two weeks to earn the money to buy that watch. Oh wait...
When I was getting my first luxury watch I was debating between these exact two watches. In the end I went for the 8900 AT simply because it's a better watch. The fit and finish, features and the overall history of Omega is just more interesting to me.
Hello, I want to ask question? I have a tissot le locle with pvd rose gold, and watch has scratches. How can restore the corpus of watch?
After 2 years and 5 months still enjoying this episode!!
I finally got mine in July for my 60th birthday.
Exactly the one in the video.
Omega of course.
I am a happy bunny!
The Omega in question is a fine piece imo. This was my gut reaction and I am a sucker for an exhibition back...
Thanks for posting this video. Great content.
This Aqua Terra is my favorite variant and I feel to be the best summer watch available. The white dial Aqua Terra with bracelet could be the better all rounder.
Had my eye on the omega for about a month now. Been thinking of one with the Sedna gold pm a rubber strap. Have to see how the New Year goes.
You should do a review of the Seiko Marinemaster 300, an iconic diver's watch. Would love to hear your take on it.
2:13 that synchronized time on both watches is very satisfying.
Perhaps Omega's finish is too rich when you consider it a daily casual watch and compare it to DateJust. However, this Omega is a Seamaster, and despite these two being similar in design at first glance, the "Sea" here is crucial. Then the colors and all finishes make it, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful watches for a passionate sailor and yacht owner. My point is, these are two different kind of watches. If you want to compare Omega to Rolex's DateJust, do it with Globemaster :)
Just went for the Omega today... couldn't resist. So much more for the money ...
What a lume shot ! Just beautiful , Bravo for the Omega!
There are many variations of the AT and some are much less "fussy" than the one shown here. I have the version with the white/silver dial w/orange second hand and brown leather strap. It provides a classic look with a modern spin and I feel the aesthetic will hold up over the years. Through much effort, I also obtained the black rubber strap w/orange stiching and the metal inserts. This provides the option of much more sporty look, when desired.
The Omega is Seamaster is a beautiful watch. I would buy it despite the fact I own a Datejust 41.
Can you compare the accuracy of watches? For example, run simultaneously with the electronic timer for 48 hours..
Omega ON A BRACELET, YES, the rubber strap doesn't do it for me
Put it on an Omega Nato.
@@Mannykeri Natos look cheap af.
@@sp3c0ps Right it has to look expensive? A Nato Strap is there for the practicality. And the colour scheme gives it its standing, not its price tag. And there is a quality difference in Nato Straps: thickness, length, metal parts that are brushed or shiny. And it can get wet, just like a rubber strap. The Omega Seamaster is there to be used in the water. Don't use it as a dress watch. All watches that have an ATM of 100 or more are for in the water. In my philosophy: don't wear these as dress watches. It is ridiculous. And also if you are not a diver, don't get a diver watch with a bezel you'll never use. It is all far from being stylish. The same goes for having a watch with a Tachymeter. If you are not a driver, and aren't going to measure the speed of a car with it, don't have a watch with a Tachymeter. It is like wearing glasses with just plain glass in it to look good. You'll look ridiculous in my book. You don't look better with the most expensive watch or a watch with the most complications. It is about quality, finish, movement and what you will use the watch for, how it'll fit your personal needs when wearing it. Plus you never buy a watch based on its strap. It is about the small clock itself, the strap you can always exchange with other straps, to make it fit your style. The strap is secondary when buying a small clock.
@@AndreUtrecht so in your opinion the seamaster aquaterra is not a dress watch??? You stupid lol
Ofc you buy the watch for the strap you dont put a steel strap from like a rolex or this one on like a globemaster even tho i dont like the globemaster strap thats also the only reason i wont buy a globemaster because i dont like these steel straps.
I like both, but my choice would be Omega, more sporty and casual, and doesn´t have the magnification
I've seen this Aqua Terra in person and I personally would buy this over the Rolex especially with the blue dial
Exactly why I bought one this afternoon, Blue face with Steel Bracelet.
Yep me too returned a brand new Datejust 41 and went AT with blue dial it's bloody stunning
After we discussed that, is mvmt better then Omega?
That Omega is absolutely beautiful. The complexity seems natural and unobtrusive and this is a watch that will get noticed on a wrist. It just stands out. The issue Rolex has today is that there too many Rolex homages and this Rolex is just white noise. Plain, bland and uninspired.
Also, with a lower price point, I can see this Omega giving Rolex a serious headache.
My issue with omega right now is the resale value. Bland Rolexes appreciate 🤷♂️
@@chasem3549 Enthusiasts don't care about resale value.
@@chasem3549 Omegas hold pretty close to their discounted retail value, which is good enough for me in the event I need to liquidate. Watches that double as an investment class feel more like jewelry than a watch. I also feel that paying well over retail for a used Rolex is not a good investment either. Buying used or preowned changes how I connect with the objects. Buying new from an AD on the other hand is another story.
To be fair, the Omega is a “better” watch with its superior movement. And it’s a “better value” with its price point. The issue is that the Aqua Terra as a design does not look like it will age well, where as the Rolex has a timeles quality to it. The Aqua Terra would be a much more intriguing alternative to the DateJust IF the design was a LOT more simpler.
This is my problem with Omega. They can't design cases and dials that won't look silly 10 years from now on, even though their movements are more than impressive enough to rival Rolex.
That's a matter of perspective. Rolex already looks like an old man's watch, but the Omega looks fresh. In a decade the Rollie may well be an antique sought after by cork-sniffers on a pension.
They did a video where they compared the Omega Globemaster to a Rolex. Now that Globemaster - in my opinion - more than holds its own in competition to the Rolex. Classically styled with an outstanding movement.
Not sure if it's a better value than a Rolex. Of course it's quite a bit cheaper but it also will lose a lot of value the second you leave your local jeweler.
@@qadrik Love that piece. Classic style. It will always look relevant. The bezel predates the DJ too. No resale, but who cares? It's a keeper.
I’ve enjoyed these videos very much. I have drooled over some spectacular watches but without any thought of owning. However, this Omega will be mine in the not too distant future! I have an omega diver and this would be a nice complement. Thanks
How come the seconds are running so different on multiple shots? At one time there are even, cut, uneven. @6:00 min. and onwards
That Aqua Terra is absolutely gorgeous , WOW
I'd personally prefer the omega over the Rolex on so many levels. But like every single watch bought from Rolex to Orient, Omega to Casio, it's all about your own personal choice. Great video as always
Exactly. Better is relative.
Right! Even for some of us Tag Heuer fans who always get discriminated against by watch snobs. :-/
Very good review, I was looking to purchase a Rolex today, but I've now consider adding Omega to the research
Omega should give option of metal rear panel. It will make the watch thinner rather than current sapphire back.
I dont have a dog in this fight. I own both Rolex and Omega and love them both. This whole discussion is equivalent to having a blond supermodel in bed on your left, and a brunette supermodel in bed on your right. Which is better? I’ll take ‘em both!
Brian B. HA HA! love your analogy. Reading these posts, i think us guys are just as passionate about our watches as we are about sex!
Finally someone with good reasoning. Both great watches, wich one is better? who cares, at the end of the day some people are happier with a toy watch than some with a Patek.
And for those of us who like redheads, variety is the spice of life.
Nah, I’ll have the blonde.
I love to have more. Lmao
Rolex without brand name look like...well Seiko
Whats going on with the second hand at 1:39 as it sweeps over the minute hand????
What happens to the lume on the second hand @1:38?
No reason to choose for me. I have both brands in my collection and love them equally.
I think Rolex's appeal comes from being timeless. Rolex is like Harley-Davidson, to someone who does not know watches, you could be wearing a model from 1975 or 2018, they wouldn't know the difference, just that it is a Rolex. That appeal carries real value. Porsche 911's are another example, they may evolve over the years but regardless of the model, you know it's a 911. WIth that said, as an owner of both Rolex and Omega (among others), the modern Omega's are superior watches.
Bob Cortez I have both as well. The word “superior” is a bit strong. Excellent build quality yes. Superior to Rolex quality and tank like movement; not so sure.
LOL .." Rolex is like Harley-Davidson " !! I know what your getting at but the analogy is seriously flawed !! Rolex is about quality and performance , I'm afraid HD has neither .
Bob Cortez I just want to point out that Harley Davidson is on the verge of possibly going out of business.
I prefer the Omega but come on now, conparing Rolex to Harley Davidson is just insulting. Rolex make extremely high quality watches in their own right. I would say its more akin to something like mercedes to Bmw
Column Wheel I also own both a Rolex, Submariner/skydweller and omega, seamaster 300m, and agree both are great watches. But I will say the omega movement is a half step better only because I travel a bunch and the Rolex drives me up the wall with not having antimagnetic protection. Before buying the omega I just assumed a regular trip to my AD to get your watch demagnetized was normal, now I find it fatiguing. Otherwise the Rolex is extremely well made like the omega. So my omega has become my travel watch and more of my daily wearer. Which leaves me to possibly trading in my Anniversary Submariner for an aquanaut. But I still love my skydweller it’s a bit more of a dress watch, just strange that only a couple a Rolex watches get magnetic protection.
Great review, Omega are certainly holding rheir own in the current competative landscape. I would be interested to see you review the IWC Portuguese against Breitling latest Navitimer.
3:53
God that was beautiful. Especially with that Lume! That line suited perfectly with that effect.
God like production. You guys are truly remarkable!
Yes, I had never seen the variation of deeper and shallow engraved lines on the dial before.
I prefer Omega to Rolex, I own a few Omega’s but not a Rolex. In this particular comparison I would chose the Rolex, it’s just stunning.
I actually think the oyster perpetual is the perfect rolex dresswatch while the omega is a great travel piece (don’t like the date window of the datejust)
Thank you! Oyster perpetual is my favorite rolex.
The quick hour jumping feature of the Omega would be very handy for travel.
Can you please show some more expensive and rear ones, like MB&F, Bovet etc .
Are the hands on Omega heated blue?
Omega are my preferred watch brand, and although Rolex watches are finely engineered they lack character and innovative design. Omega have made great progress over the last decade and have become as desirable as any Rolex watch, and the Aqua Terra is my personal favourite. I have to agree that Omega went off on a 'creative' tangent and need to stick to a limited number of designs, just like Rolex, this will help them gain new followers and retain their current buyers.
The only channel that doesn't show watches on the wrist and no one complaining in the comments section. Beautiful shots as always!
Interesting history lesson and comparison. Although I own 5 Rolex models, they are not as accurate as the Pierce Brosnan era Omega Seamaster or the 2 Breitlings in my collection of Automatics. I also really dislike the Rolex cyclops. If a crystal ever requires replacement, I'll prefer a replacement sans cyclops. It's unnecessary and if compromises several indexes and degrees of hand sweep. I like a lot about this new Omega but I am personally unwilling to accept a rubber strap on any watch costing over $4k. Thanks for your excellent presentation.
Informative and professionally done video. The Omega with bracelet (though I do like that integrated rubber band look) will be my second Seamaster and it will become my goto everyday watch...it is just a beautiful time piece!
only problem of the omega (and all co-axial movement watches) is the thickness relative to rolex.. rolex is always easier to wear
saltmunc exactly. Same with Grand Seiko
Actually the Aquaterra is pretty thin watch, feels very good on the wrist (maybe too much, I prefer thicker watchers)
And the frightening Co-Axial servicing costs.
Jean Ferret True, but don’t Co-Axial movements have longer service intervals?
@@jeanferret9497 what frightening costs?
Isn't the recent Omega Globemaster more of a contender to the DJ?
I absolutely love this colour palette of the aqua terra, it’s striking and different
By searching around for my first luxury watch under over many months, I finally went for Omega Aqua Terra Good Planet. Love it every minute.

i love the camera work, this is some quality content :)
I’d say the benefit of the Omega, aesthetics aside, is availability and price including huge discounts on the grey market and moderate discounts at dealers.
Rolex, at least presently, has far better value retention and resale value. Even grey market prices for stainless models is still at or above retail and has been for a while.
If this doesn’t matter to you, get the Omega.
exactly, who can't get a rolex is just grudging

Was considering getting a Rolex explorer 1, but after watching this I will definitely get the aqua terra. Gorgeous piece..
Currently looking to buying an aqua terra with a green or grey dial. Such beautiful watches
I've been conditioned to salivate when I see this channel has posted a new video.
The omega is just a superb watch and the aqua terra is so versatile, Rolex bore me.
I can’t decide which color of the AT I want. I’m not a huge fan of that rubber strap so that’d have to go if I get the blue one. The movement in these is gorgeous. Glad it has an exhibition window
Omega has a free sprung balance! Nice. The balance set-up is similar to Rolex.
1:19 the date does not alignment perfectly, sad to see this :(
They align perfectly. If it was 10:10pm then it might have started it's cycle but I have seen several aqua terras in person and they are all perfectly centered. If anyone ever tells you an omega is inferior in quality control/fit and finish then they haven't owned one or looked under macro(speedmasters won't look as good because of how the method and matierals of the dial finish). Omegas out of the factory are superb. They are easily just as good as rolex.
@@patriotsfan1236 yet the date is misaligned. Clearly visible.
I have 2 Omega' as well. So no....They're not starting the date cycle at 10.... they should be instantly clicking from one date to the next at exactly 12.

Please make a review of Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 5. Especially comparing it with Omega AT.
Aqua terra or diver 300 for a first watch ?
Not with that wonky date wheel when shown with the 22. I'm always amazed at just how many flaws these videos show up.
These are both great watches and I would love to be able to afford either one but in reality will never be able to. If I did have that amount to spend on a watch I would probably be tempted to go for the Rolex as this particular watch in the video is a timeless classic and Rolex have always kept their design simple and is therefore more versatile. This Omega also is a stunning looking watch and I like the design but is it better than the Rolex?, I really wouldn't know. Great video on these two watches.
The 8900 Aqua Terra and the 8500 before it are outstanding values. I've compared them directly and found the 8900 to have the edge in comfort while the 8500's longer lugs are more beautiful. When compared to DJ, it is amazing how much you get for your money with the AT.
Can you do Bell & Ross BR V2-92? Had my eyes on one and it's been haunting me since. Thanks in advance!
This past summer, I narrowed my search for a new watch down to a Datejust 41 and the previous generation of the Aqua Terra, which measured at 41.5 - both in a black dial. I chose the Aqua Terra and am still as in love with it as I was the day I brought it home. With that said, though, I'll probably still head back to the AD for that Datejust one of these years. Two fabulous timepieces.
That white datejust is so beautiful! Its so clean and classy.
Just want to say .... your videos are the most well thought out and well stated on the entire web. Bravo
I'd like to see you review the longines master collection moonphase chronometer in blue color with the blue crocodile strap
I loathe the date magnifier on Rolexes. Love the Omega Aqua Terra, with both metal and rubber straps
Magnifying glass on a Rolex is good for older people to see the date
I’ve always hated them... but now... at 50... I see (punt intended) why the put them on. I can’t read the date on my watches anymore. Sucks getting old, but beats the alternative. 😂
I've handled and plan to purchase the AT, grey dial on the bracelet, which would have been a better comparison, IMHO. Not to mention, that grey dial on steel looks awesome! The Omega AT is a better watch with better tech. Period.Whether or not you like it, well that's a different story.. (I do) &
Don't get me wrong I do like many Rokex models. I've just never been able to get over that Mickey Mouse looking hour hand. Rolex are simply the best marketers, hands down. Period.
Just ask 98% of Rolex wearers what movement is in their watch. They will probably say "it's an automatic". SMFH🤔
Sometimes, perception is reality. Great video as always, btw.
I tried on the aquaterra but i didn't like the bracelet :/
Review the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 34mm blue dial
This Omega is a beauty!
even if someone creates a 10000x better automatic movement than what's in the rolex, people will still buy rolex because it says rolex sadly.

I've always been interested in the AT but just cant get passed that I think the arrow should be on the hour hand, or neither, looks odd to me
R1cePudding Agree.
I never get the comparison between these two as I feel the Aquaterra is a much sportier watch. I think the Omega Globemaster is the closest 1-1 comparison with the Rolex Datejust
I like the simplicity of the datejust and in fact it is on my radar. The omega just seems a bit to busy for my taste.
I once had a Rolex and almost everyone who saw it became an instant watch expert and asked me "is it a real one" on a daily basis. Replaced it with a used Speedmaster and the experts left me alone.
Yep that's how it is
Both beautiful watches... I wouldn't mind owning either. The price deficit between the two is alluring, especially since you can have a nice Ball diver for the difference. So on that thought how about a review on some of the newer Ball watches?
The first time I saw an Aqua Terra small seconds I was absolutely blown away by its quality. It’s ridiculous. Such a superbly beautiful watch.
I’ve owned a 300M for a while and that too is just staggering. No watch I‘be tried on (around a similar price point) have even comes close.
Only criticism and by goodness is an extreme criticism and it also applies more to the AT than the 300M, but it’s quite a thick watch. I like chunky watches, but it doesn’t suit. Doesn’t matter though.
Just love the simplicity of Rolex. Omega needs to keep it simple and stop trying so hard!!
Rolex is for posers that know , jack shit about, high horological watches, Patek, Lange, JLC, ....enough said
Of the two Omegas I've owned (Seamaster GMT and Speedmaster Moonwatch), both needed substantial repairs within the first 5 years. I have a Datejust on right now and beat the hell out of it. It just keeps going. I'll pay twice the amount for a watch I know will keep running rather than buy an Omega. Omega won't ever be on my wrist again.
My Omegas are ticking away 29, 25 and 7 years without issues. Just the regular service.
I like the design of the omega as it has more flair, but in the long run, I think the classic design of the datejust will age better. However, the sweep of the rolex seems more smooth than that of the aqua terra. For full disclosure, I own a datejust and an omega (speedmaster, not the aqua terra).
That's a nice lookin Omega!! But I always like to change the straps around on my watches, and this Omega wouldn't give me that opportunity unless I buy really expensive omega straps
The problem is that you guys chose literally THE WORST aqua terra model. One a steel bracelet it's minimalist and is definitely a great purchase. The blue strap just puts people off.
I think one of the biggest issues is no matter how you slice it, the consumers who want a Rolex (specifically a DJ) want that simple look. And the more Omega tries to look "better" the more it strays from the Datejust consumer base. So it is not about which company does it better, it is about which company gives the consumer what they want. Rolex seems to cater to older people and people who want to be perceived as older and established.
and i think i saw this video .. howcome it is uploaded only now ?
Why does the lume not work on the minute hand of the Aqua Terra @ 3:56?
It does! The problem is that the tip of the hand is cut off in this angle. Viewing from further back the tip is visible and lumed 😂
Lume is not applied to the entire hand like on the hour but rather just on the arrowhead tip. Look at non-blacklit shots...
greekatso ...because it isn’t a Rolex!
