Wow. A lot of people sore here in the comments over the use of the term entry-level. You know right off the bat it's not going to be cheap when the three brands are Rolex, Omega, and Grand Seiko. I agree though that the title could have been more accurate along the lines of "entry-level Rolex, Omega, and Grand Seiko watches". In the grand scheme of things in the watch world these are probably lower end of the mid-tier.
If I had limited budget and can only afford 1 of these, GS is definitely last cause I can find a seiko that looks like the GS, but if I had a good amount of money, I'd definitely have a GS in my collection. My rank would be AT, rolex, then GS out of these 3
Depends on how much you want to spend, a watch can be your daily beater as a time piece, a work tool, or a perfect jewelry for men. For a elegant, manly jewelry, Omega get the score.
I've collected Rolex before, so I get the allure and while their strong resale values effect the overall ownership cost, the idea of shelling out $5400 for a watch with sloppy dial work and poor movement finish irks me. It seems like just ten years ago they were still making their bracelets with stamped clasps, but people still bought them anyways because of the name.
@Christopher Wood -MDH- And yet Rolex happily ship watches with misaligned bezel inserts and misaligned rehaut as was the case with my Hulk. Stop talking shit.
It’s called entry level merely because of its pricing. But if you really look at the Grand Seiko, in your hands, it’s actually better quality compared to some JLC, GP, Blancpain and many others.
The Omega is the best looking, the Grand Seiko is the best bang for the buck, and the Rolex is the most recognizable and desirable. All that being said, just like my choice in women, I always go for the best looking first. The Omega would be my choice.

The AT 150 looks fantastic on the steel bracelet, but the navy blue croc strap transforms it into an after 6 dress watch that looks amazing. I have the previous generation 38.5mm and use it with both bands.
@@vivekv27990 That is the major thing this product is currently missing. I'd buy if it did. Because it does look so great on both the bracelet and weave pattern rubber options. A quick change system would put it over the top. As it is, I too have a previous version, the original Skyfall AT, and that serves quite well enough.
I feel like they should have chosen a Spring Drive GS-which is what they'known for, with a more interesting dial. But I agree that these are pricey to be considered entry level
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” - Leonardo Da Vinci “Less is more.” - Mies van der Rohe The Rolex O.P. 36 is it. I would go with a silver dial, though. I’ve seen one in the metal at my local Geary’s. It’s drop-dead gorgeous. The white dial is a close second. Grand Seikos are wonderful, but their Website is mysterious about service - not so with Rolex. And we know that Omega services their own watches well. And ... well ... from what I’ve read ... with a co-axial escapement ... you’d better send the Omega to Omega ... and nobody else. Those things are supposedly temperamental and difficult to service. The Rolex? Wear it with a T-shirt or a suit, and hand it down to your son when your done with it. It’s a classic. And you could easily keep it running well for decades to come.

@Xandros Townsend I own the white dial Oyster Perpetual, and one can adjust the clasp. Inside the clasp it is possible to adjust. Just like you can do that with Explorer I clasp for instance
GS best looking of the 3 my opinion
That Omega with the white variant & leather strap all day for me
I've collected Rolex before, so I get the allure and while their strong resale values effect the overall ownership cost, the idea of shelling out $5400 for a watch with sloppy dial work and poor movement finish irks me. It seems like just ten years ago they were still making their bracelets with stamped clasps, but people still bought them anyways because of the name.
@Christopher Wood -MDH- hahahahaha!
@Christopher Wood -MDH- if you have owned other brands of luxury watches you will know that's far from the case my friend
@Christopher Wood -MDH- And yet Rolex happily ship watches with misaligned bezel inserts and misaligned rehaut as was the case with my Hulk. Stop talking shit.
Why do I get the feeling that if the other watches were in precious metal with complications, they would have still chosen the Rolex?
In case you don’t know, Hodinkee can be based sometimes
They chose the most boring and basic grand seiko for a reason i think...
Grand Seiko all day long.
Grand Seiko’s entry level is their quartz model
It’s called entry level merely because of its pricing.
But if you really look at the Grand Seiko, in your hands, it’s actually better quality compared to some JLC, GP, Blancpain and many others.
Except for the shitty bracelet and boring styling. Nice dial and spring drive cool tho
The Omega is the best looking, the Grand Seiko is the best bang for the buck, and the Rolex is the most recognizable and desirable. All that being said, just like my choice in women, I always go for the best looking first. The Omega would be my choice.
Awesome format. How about 3 pilot watches (around 5k). Or 3 pilots in 3 price segments (2-3, 5-10, 10+). Also like the table in the article. Like car comparisons. Hope this trend will continue. Thanks
Got a vincero ad after this lol, what a scam.
got the op36 in black. very unpretentious, reliable yet elegant everyday watch. it never leaves my wrist.
Could you upload a video of it, would love to see some wrist shots , thanks
I got the blue 369 dial in 36mm. Love it
What's up with these comments?
Am I the only one who understood "Entry-Level" as in, entry-level into the lineup of these three watch brands?
What's wrong with that?
People are taking it as if "Entry-Level" means "Your first watch ever"....
You're not alone, my friend. There are 3 certainties in life: Death, Taxes, and stupid people commenting on UA-cam videos.
Love this segment. Would love to see more of these.
Comparing between Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz
Lexus for me. Which explains why I lean toward Grand Seiko in this price bracket 😂
Aqua Terra all the way
The AT 150 looks fantastic on the steel bracelet, but the navy blue croc strap transforms it into an after 6 dress watch that looks amazing. I have the previous generation 38.5mm and use it with both bands.
Are they coming with easy fast deployment spring bars?
@@vivekv27990 The previous generation 38.5mm does not.
Have all three… the GS is the winner for me…
I feel like they should have chosen a Spring Drive GS-which is what they'known for, with a more interesting dial. But I agree that these are pricey to be considered entry level
Three great choices. I don't particularly like that rubber band on the Omega though.
You can get it on a bracelet as well.

The Rolex O.P. 36 is it. I would go with a silver dial, though.
I’ve seen one in the metal at my local Geary’s.
It’s drop-dead gorgeous. The white dial is a close second.
Grand Seikos are wonderful, but their Website is mysterious about service
- not so with Rolex. And we know that Omega services their own watches well.
And ... well ... from what I’ve read ... with a co-axial escapement ...
you’d better send the Omega to Omega ... and nobody else.
Those things are supposedly temperamental and difficult to service.
The Rolex? Wear it with a T-shirt or a suit,
and hand it down to your son when your done with it.
It’s a classic. And you could easily keep it running well for decades to come.
@Archer Nice excuse for borring design. Simplicity is good but not like you think it is. Majority will never understand because they are doing everything opposite.
Nature doesn't have minimalistic design. What about that ? Actually it's full of details.
That Grand Seiko is sharp! Debating that and the Explorer 1
