The Tissot Gentleman dial is so good, I bought a powermatic 80 with blue dial, the only problem is that there is no room for any other blue dial in my small collection, so instead because there are plenty of good blue dials available just get the green one…..good green dials are hard to find
That green dial variant of the Tissot Gentleman looks really nice but you can only have so many green watches. The other ones being the Seiko Alpinist and Orient Kamasu. They're all nice watches for the price.
Coincidentally and prior to this video I had recommended several of these to a friend who was after Rolex OP. In particular the omega, ball and tissot. "But they don't have Rolex on the dial" came the reply. Says it all. You can't help some people.
I’m thinking of a Longines Conquest for a travel / work watch simply for its relatively indestructible build quality and it’s solid, classic good looks. I’ve always found that no matter how long between showers and visits to the barber, walking up to the desk of a good hotel, wearing a watch that at least looks the part, gets you a decent room for the night.
I saw the oyster perpetual silver dial and fell in love That shade of silver and the way it shines is so beautiful these watches are nice but they don’t got that same glisten to it
I have to say I have been waiting for a video exactly like this but, what makes me a fan of the OP is it's simple, no date design. These are all very nice watches but was hoping to see that simple, elegant, three hander, with no complications, and higher level finishing. That is why I'm a fan of the OP.
Was looking at the Gentlemen for a long time but instead I landed on a Tissot Ballade, the rose gold spoke to me somehow. And I just want to say thank you for all your work, Teddy. For some reason youtube wanted me to watch your videos and that awakened the interest in watches in me. And now I have my first mechanical watch ever, hoping to grow the collection during the years to come.
I think you nailed it with the Tudor. More colors would be nice, but multiple case sizes, an excellent bracelet (with NO RIVETS) and clasp make it a fantastic choice. Great video, Teddy. Thanks!
I have the Seiko SUR373 and it is great value for the money!! A titanium everyday styled watch makes it standout. Glad to see it was showcased!! More people should know about it
I'm willing to get one soon too! That's a shame that Citizen automatic line is often omitted and underappreciated. They offer much more at this price point than Seiko.
I really like the Carrera 39mm - it may be a bit generic, but it's also classy, relatively affordable, has a cheap to maintain movement and at least it's not blatantly copying Rolex like the Tissot and the Seikos (and I do love these two brands) and even the Omegas to a certain extent.
Teddy I recently acquired a Burgundy Code 11.59 from my AD and man oh man you should review it. Very misunderstood watch. People say its a $32K fashion watch but its far from it. The case construction is intricate and all the details make it more interesting than a Royal Oak.
Had a Rolex submariner with the Cyclops that couldn't keep time, it's gone. Now, Ball is my favorite, 6 of them. To round out the week, I have the Tag Heuer carrera calibre 5 in 41mm.
I think my concern with the OP going up so much on the secondary market is that it feels like an 'anything with a Rolex logo' purchase. It's a great watch but it's being dragged up by how ridiculous the Daytona, GMT and Submariner all are now. Teddy does a great job here of highlighting some alternatives but it's really up to everyone buying to find something that really works for them. I am a big fan of the Aqua Terra but also think Omega did a great job with the new Railmaster as an OP alternative and with the Seamaster 1948. Pleased that the GS Elegance gets a mention here as I think the build quality is unbeatable at the price. If it's Rolex or nothing then fair play - it's a big world out there for those that think differently.
That’s wrong IMO. You can’t judge the watch on its GM prices. The OP is surprisingly a very good watch which has the same movement, power reserve, bracelet than the Submariner, Air King, Explorer I. The only way it’s trumped by the submariner is the depth 100vs300m, clasp and the bezel (not a big thing for me as I don’t swim/dive). Because it’s a time only watch people make the mistake of thinking it’s just a cheap Rolex with worse materials, but the reality is, it’s probably the most Rolex watch there is and is the reference Oyster Perpetual vs the Sub, DD, DJ, etc. I love mine, but lack of date is my only downer. With it was still 39mm too
@@mimikatz Certainly not dismissing the OP as containing cheap materials or being a botch job by Rolex at the bottom of their range. The point is that their appreciation has followed that of some of the models higher up the range and that hasn't been the result of buyers just realising that the OP exists, it is because the likes of the Daytona and GMT are now out of reach for so many more people that might have bought one at retail.

I like this alternatives to the Rolex OP and Omega AQ: Citizen Tsuyosa, Erebus Ascent, CW Sealander, CW Twelve... and some of the latest San Martin watches... ☺
I ordered an SBGH295 3 months ago and it just arrived this week. The dial is mesmerizing. The level of detail in the watch and quality of finish is unparallel at this price point. If you could call a dial dynamic this is it.
Ted, are you wearing a Breitling Superocean in this video? It would be nice if you did a wrist check at the beginning of your videos. Love to see what you are wearing. Thanks for the video. Great lineup.
What do you think of the Seiko SUR307 and SUR311s? You can get them at a really low price. If you can’t afford the SARB then the SUR is the quartz version of SARB
Monta is best value watch on this list by far, I would argue possibly better finishing quality and better movement than BB36 for half the price. Also these new Aqua Terra’s look much better than the OP.
The BB36 is from a much more established brand with a lot more history and probably a higher regulated movement. It’s also a good amount smaller so I wouldn’t say they are completely interchangeable, you’d have to try them on first before deciding. Also I’m not sure what the Monta goes for lightly used but you can find the Tudor for around $2,000 lightly used.
@@brett2396 true, Tudor is way more established no doubt. Movement wise, i believe BB36/41 uses top grade ETA2824 chronometer certified, while Monta uses 2892 regulated to -5/+5. I have seen pre owned Monta for $1200-1400
I've been attracted to the Tissot Gentleman and the Longine Conquest for quite a while now. IU have to admit when I see the Rolex Datejust, I think of the Tissot Gentleman
Had both (still have the Longines), and i liked the gentleman alot.. it really is a good/nice watch. But I will tell you the Longines is in a different class. Happy hunting!
I have various Japanese affordable watches but I’ve already spent some years with them and I believe I’m ready to make my first affordable SWISS purchase. I work as a technician and sometimes bang my watches around things. Any recommendations ? I don’t want another dive watch , at the moment I’m in love with the khaki king and some Tissot models.
The Citizen nb1050-59a (a JDM @ USD$300) is very similar to both the Rolex Perpetual and the IWC Ingenieur for a great price and includes a sapphire crystal and higher level 9011 Citizen movement.
Great topic! I think I like & agree with every one of your selections. I was lucky enough to purchase a SARB035 before they were discontinued. I’ve considered selling it, but especially now, it’s a great value!
I've owned 3 of those Seikos, the Tissot, both of the Ball watches, the Monta, the Sinn, and the TAG Heuer. I also own the Oceanus S100, which heavily resembles the OP. I think I have a "type" when it comes to watches 😅
I really dig the Longines conquest except that crown guard. For the life of me, I never understood the point. Where the crown sits when you wear a watch doesn’t necessitate a guard around it
I have a Seiko SUR 377. Titanium. Quartz. Green and gold. Perfect everyday watch. $200. Excellent finishing. The idea of paying $6000 for an omega that does the same thing just seems lunatic.
I'd add the Breitling Chronomat 36. Dress and sporty, 10atm, super 80s bullet bracelet, loads of character. They stupidly marketed this as a women's watch, but the stainless ones without jewels are definitely unisex.
I just love the 35-38mm range in these watches. They look upscale and distinguished compared to larger case styles (which have been so diluted by quartz knockoffs, copycats, etc). Smaller case sizes say 'discrete, upscale' to my eyes. (Rolex and Omega get this, btw.)
I really do not understand, i saw many times this longines conquest automatic close to 1000 euros but never find it to buy on the web... the one close to this price is quartz... the automatic look a bit different without numbers and cost more than 2000. Is it not sold in France, or anything else ??
A little late to the party but, as best alternative to the OP I would add the Nomos Club, in specific the 748 one. I owned a OP 39 in white but it was too big for me (why I didn’t take the 36…) then I came across the 748 and… didn’t left my wrist since; can be dressed up or down according to the strap you choose and works well in a business environment as well as in a pool
Great content Teddy. Recently I got hold of my datejust 41 from the AD after almost 12 months of being on The List and honestly after holding the watch, I was like for the money there are simply several more alternatives that offer much more. For about $500 more that the cost of datejust I got myself a JLC master calendar last year. That JLC is at a different level. Not sure how far this notion of Rolex being the benchmark can stretch.
As much as I've not been crazy about Rolex lately, I wouldn't second guess myself. Your DJ41 will be a durable, good looking trusty companion for the rest of your life. Wear and enjoy your new watch in good health🙂👍
@@buzzards_watches3186 I paid exactly $11,379 for what is considered to be amongst the entry level Rolex, not sure if am ready to test it durability anytime soon 😂 . Thank you for covering such an inclusive range of watches; multiple great options! I'm especially fond of the Longines Conquest; an achievable watch by an old, established Swiss brand.
Great video, but for ball why is the base marvelight always brought up? The engineer 3 legend 2 is much closer with its thinner profile and RR1101-c (2892a2c) movement, it really makes a difference in the wrist profile
I was thinking along the lines of using Tudor as Rolex alternative as well, but I have my eyes on the Style line. This line of product is arguably a lesser-mentioned one of Tudor products, but they match the Oyster Perpetual appearance perfectly for $2,500-$3,500. One thing that edges them a bit higher than Black Bay 36/41 is that they do offer 38mm dial option which matches the 39mm Oyster Perpetual closer and is a good option for those who find BB 36 too small and BB 41 too big.
@teddybaldassarre Please explain to me why you didn’t pick the Tudor Style 38/41 mm? Available with silver, black, blue and Burgundy dial. Also available with a fluted steel bezel.
Teddy, have you noticed that many manufacturers seem to pride themselves on launching new models and making sure only a handful of people can buy them? Seems that this trend is growing and is becoming very abrasive to collectors IMHO. You highlighted Sinn 556 with the color dials being unavailable as soon as they were launched. Rolex with its Oyster Perpetual line. Tudor with its chronograph models. Omega with its MoonSwatch and Aqua Terra colored dials. Eric Wind designed and Seiko collaborated with Rowing Blazer were quickly hard to buy. I could go on, but these are supposed to entice new buyers to the brand. This trend is starting to turn me off and look for brands that want to sell to customers. Conspicuous consumption and snobbery does not apply to entry level watches yet the trend continues. I wish you could corner their CEO's and grill them Mike Wallace (of 60 Minutes fame) to share how this turns customers off.
Well, couldn't it also be defended that they serve the customers who are in fact the best customers? Maybe, at least in some cases, it's just that some are 'better collectors' and therefore snag the new pieces deservedly? And an 'elite' is served the best, it's been like that for ages, even some luxury cars at one point were not sold at all to 'mere mortals'. Sure, many will immediately say that it's not really their best customers they're giving these watches to, but it's easy to make that accusation and less easy to prove it, especially in all cases. It seems that Europeans are more used to there being a true elite that has long worked their way into the graces of exclusive product suppliers, actually really being the reason for the market to exist, and further than that many special/new pieces are even developed only due to their commissioning of them. And the 'upstart new-money' Americans are confused by this, don't understand that not everything is mass-produced 'Chevrolet Corvettes' that anyone with a bit more money can buy at their local dealer's lot.
@@pistonburner6448 I understand your point, but I feel differently. If it is an expensive piece like a Rainbow Daytona or Patek Nautilus when it was in production, then I fully agree with you. My perspective is on the entry level watches like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual or the Sinn 556. The brands are free to do what they want, but I would think that entry level watches would be more readily available to the masses. Just imagine if you could order a Rolex OP and take delivery within 12 months how that would make you a huge Rolex customer if you never had a Rolex. Again, this is my opinion only.
Wao of all the watches presented in this video I was blown away by how beautiful these new Omega watches are. Definitely in my wish list great video as usual by Teddy Baldassarre thank you for sharing. :)
I tend to use my SNXS79 . I think it's just right for me for any formal occasion. It's not that I have formal occasion frequently but I didn't want to spend a lot on a watch which I will get to wear only about maybe 4 or 5 times for formal occasions in a year. All I did was changed it to a black leather strap and it looked the part for these evening occasions.
Rather than buying the Seiko with mineral glass and only 100 meter water resistance I would recommend the German brand Regent, model F654 with sapphire glass and 200 meter water resistance.
If only the dials are compared, the closet would be Seiko SNXS and citizen NJ0150-81. I know the price range is way below than in the video. But solid watches is you just want the feel of an OP.
Anyone esle tired of the eta/sw movements? I remember when I first started all my watches had nh35, now everything I have has a 2824 or a sw200/sw300. Glad Oris and Tudor are putting their in house movements in more watches.
Those Omegas, how they didn’t frame that date window for 6k is beyond me. Looks like a brilliant watch overall, but then someone said, “oh, yeah let’s throw a date on there”. Total afterthought.
I would agree that the window needs something more. The minimalist approach didn't translate because the hour markers are prominent. It seems like they did put some thought into the window shape as the angles seem congruent to the hour markers' angular design.
I agree about the date window; it looks unfinished and unbalances the dial. I'd add the following nitpicks: 1) AR coating on the outside - is a scratchable coating on a non-scratch material is a good idea? 2) Wide arrow pointer on the minute hand - doesn't make sense without a rotating bezel. 3) No on-the-fly adjustment for the bracelet - not really acceptable at this price. 4) It is about the same price as a Seamaster 300, which has much better specs. At least Rolex's price structure (if you can get one) makes some sense.
How about the Bulova 96C125, or 96C128. I believe they’re called the ‘Surveyor’ and they look to me to be about the perfect watch for the price. What do you think? There is a nice gold coloured one with a dark brown strap as well. Would love to see a review. Great job, I really like your channel.
Let's be honest to ourselves. As watch enthusiast we don't just look at what other's buy or what's hyped. We study and learn the heritage of the watchmaker, sometimes we get attached to the brands.
I currently have an order in for the OP in coral red. (should be here... someday) ... that being said I just watch the resale market go up and up.. its my first Rolex and IS to commemorate a very special milestone in my life. I know the answer but... at what point is it worth it to just sell the OP move into another watch and have 10k+ to put under the mattress

Respect to all the Ball Engineers out there.
I also recommend the Tag Heuer Carrera Caliber 5 as alternative. Good wearabilty and reasonable prices on the second hand market.
Those dials on Omega really pop in video. Thanks for sharing. They don't look too great on Omega's website. I look forward to seeing them in person.
Hi Teddy,
What do you think of Christopher Ward watches, especially in 36mm with color dials?
I’m thinking of a Longines Conquest for a travel / work watch simply for its relatively indestructible build quality and it’s solid, classic good looks. I’ve always found that no matter how long between showers and visits to the barber, walking up to the desk of a good hotel, wearing a watch that at least looks the part, gets you a decent room for the night.
I have the Conquest vhp quartz - 5spy accuracy and I think slightly better looking than the Conquest auto.
I saw the oyster perpetual silver dial and fell in love
That shade of silver and the way it shines is so beautiful these watches are nice but they don’t got that same glisten to it
I have to say I have been waiting for a video exactly like this but, what makes me a fan of the OP is it's simple, no date design. These are all very nice watches but was hoping to see that simple, elegant, three hander, with no complications, and higher level finishing. That is why I'm a fan of the OP.
I feel the same way about the OP. The lack of a date window is a big reason why I want one.
Thanks!
I wish Tudor put their MT5400 movement in the steel BB36. All I want is a BB36 with a 70h power reserve
The Seikos are amazing, it is sad they discontinued the 033 otherwise would be my choice, but nevertheless I am getting an Omega.
I have the Seiko SUR373 and it is great value for the money!! A titanium everyday styled watch makes it standout. Glad to see it was showcased!! More people should know about it
+1 here on the SUR373 - sapphire crystal & titanium case & bracelet too.
I'd add the Citizen Nb1050. Great watch, around 500$. It's got Sarx quality, and it's just an all around perfect watch to me.
The green dial Omega Aqua Terra is *chef's kiss 🤌
Glad you included Ball. I love my Fireman Enterprise, and always love seeing it on the screen.
Those Omega ATs are gorgeous, and also direct competitors much more to the Datejust than the OP.
Just a quick note, the Tudor BB36 uses a top grade Sellita now instead of the ETA. Cheers!
I have seen pre owned Monta for $1200-1400
Omega Aqua terra and Globe Master
Grand Seiko (your choice of sports steel watches)
Citizen series 8, chronomaster and caliber 0200
How do you compare Rolex and omega to Tissot, citizen, seiko, Sinn as same category as an alternatives.
Teddy I think you missed the Citizen nj0150. I think it's the best affordable option under $500, they even have the cool colors like Rolex OP.
my favorite is the carrera! I'm glad you mentioned it
Formex Essence is a great option as well. Have mine on wrist!
GS and Omega all the way!
Where the crown sits when you wear a watch doesn’t necessitate a guard around it
Omega at 16:53. I would say the terra cotta and then the saffron dials are my favorites.
I was told the accuracy on those watches is about 5 seconds per day, is that correct?
I have a Seiko SUR 377. Titanium. Quartz. Green and gold. Perfect everyday watch. $200. Excellent finishing.
The idea of paying $6000 for an omega that does the same thing just seems lunatic.
I would include that old Seiko 5 that cost +- 100 USD, as I saw many videos comparing them to rolex (both datejust and oyster perpetual)
Great list, but I'm amazed there was no mention of the Traska Commuter. As close a watch to the OP as you can get without being an outright copy!
Just looked these up. Incredible. But literally sold out everywhere, shame
I like the AT, just wish Omega would lume the whole minute hand.
I'd add the Breitling Chronomat 36. Dress and sporty, 10atm, super 80s bullet bracelet, loads of character. They stupidly marketed this as a women's watch, but the stainless ones without jewels are definitely unisex.
The new Omegas are brilliant. Your video with Kevin is great.
It all depends on your wrist size at the end of the day.
Longines Conquest is a weird collection - no lume. Black dial version has only painted markers. Looks good though
As long as people believe Rolex in the pinnacle of watchmaking and quality, nothing will change. Some Rolex fans argue Rolex is even above JLC.
Funny part is when I asked the AD about the new gold Yatch Master, he said to be in the list I should have a portfolio of at least $28k with them! I had it but just feel like they are distancing themselves from the market
@@diavalus the majority of the so called fans tend to be the keyboard warriors who would never spend on these watches but will gladly defend the prices
Thank you for covering such an inclusive range of watches; multiple great options! I'm especially fond of the Longines Conquest; an achievable watch by an old, established Swiss brand.
Longines is an awesome brand I actually have my hydroconquest on right now. I’m going to film a few videos about longines in the near future
Great watch, and great brand. Can sit in any room and be respected
I have the Sinn 556 Anniversary model with no date and absolutely love it!
Luv the new Omega’s and don’t know how one could not choose those over the others other than costs.
Great video, but for ball why is the base marvelight always brought up? The engineer 3 legend 2 is much closer with its thinner profile and RR1101-c (2892a2c) movement, it really makes a difference in the wrist profile
16:58 omega ❤
Where to buy it online?
The SARB is still the GOAT at it it’s current price however my boss wears the tissot powermatic and it is truly stunning on the wrist.
The world has lost its mind and watches are just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks for the great content as always.
Thanks for watching my friend!
If you can't get OP at retail price, definitely go for Aqua Terra or Black Bay.
Great list of watches. Most of these are actually more desirabel than the Rolex op imo.
The new Citizen Statesman series is also a great alternative considering it is the most affordable at around 400 USD
how do you mean tissot gentleman is better casual and dress balance than prx? Is PRX more dress or more casual than gentleman?
I was thinking along the lines of using Tudor as Rolex alternative as well, but I have my eyes on the Style line. This line of product is arguably a lesser-mentioned one of Tudor products, but they match the Oyster Perpetual appearance perfectly for $2,500-$3,500. One thing that edges them a bit higher than Black Bay 36/41 is that they do offer 38mm dial option which matches the 39mm Oyster Perpetual closer and is a good option for those who find BB 36 too small and BB 41 too big.
Purchase the 116000 OP, particularly the 3-6-9 blue is amazing
Mike Wallace was The Man. Miss that guy.
Does anyone know the case thickness of the Aquaterras? The video mentions 13mm while a prior video of Teddy’s had the thickness at 12.3mm. Many thanks
If only the dials are compared, the closet would be Seiko SNXS and citizen NJ0150-81.
I know the price range is way below than in the video. But solid watches is you just want the feel of an OP.
Happy to not need an alternative because I was able to snag one at retail
Great watch. Is Omega incapable of making slimmer watches? 13.2 is too thick
The regular BB36 use Sellita movements nowadays, not ETA.
Proud owner of Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Green dial with crosshair.
@@999NINE99 agreed
Just sloppy. Ruined the look.
I agree about the date window; it looks unfinished and unbalances the dial. I'd add the following nitpicks:
1) AR coating on the outside - is a scratchable coating on a non-scratch material is a good idea?
2) Wide arrow pointer on the minute hand - doesn't make sense without a rotating bezel.
3) No on-the-fly adjustment for the bracelet - not really acceptable at this price.
4) It is about the same price as a Seamaster 300, which has much better specs. At least Rolex's price structure (if you can get one) makes some sense.
Never noticed it and now I can't un see it.
Rolex explorer 39mm was always on my list, I picked up a Seiko SARY057 and I love it.
I really like the Omeg AquaTerra in Terra Cotta and Saffron(both); The Ball watch in green is good looking also.
Finally a channel for 30 somethings wanting to buy a nice watch. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
