For about 10 months now I’m on a 20-4 (sometimes 19-5) intermittent fasting schedule and it did wonders for my energy levels. Counter intuitively it gave me *more* energy, evenly balanced throughout the day and I’m never hungry.
So you know for autophagy 19 or 20 hour fasting intervals are not enough. You need 48. At least every other day fasting, but anyway doesn't take away other benefits you get. Best of luck.
@superalexandre8450 actually one never knows when autophagy has started actually taking place. Long fasts most likely supports autophagy but also the longer one is in ketosis even without a long fast, as well as maintaining an intermittent regime or other structure such as the needed diets and, or excecise that supports what the body needs or doesnt need to induce autophagy, it will happen as and when the conditions in the body supports it
I do intermittent fasting and it has improved my TBI symptoms. I still have a long way to go, but I do notice an improvement. Fasting is very easy for me since I lost my sense of taste, smell and hunger due to the TBI. Eating is a chore when you have none of these senses and I forget to eat, so I have alarms to remind me to eat.
I've loved all your videos on intermittent fasting. So many websites just talk about "you can lose weight!" but I want to know exactly what it does to the body and mind and why. These videos give me enough information to know how to look deeper at scientific journals and studies.

you will loose weight without exercise if u are consistent with your fast. give yourself six months with 20/4 strategy , u will drop like 10kg. trust me , i am a living proof
The weight loss will be slower on IF if you haven't adjusted your diet (you're still ingesting sugar, unhealthy foods etc) but it will defo come. However if you adjust your diet (cut raw sugar out and unhealthy foods) the rate of weight loss is phenomenal! Speaking from experience and i'm losing weight on IF without exercise either. (Planning on exercising though for overall health but i've not been so far)
Great video and it’s easier fto get behind and commit to health when there’s a good understanding of the ‘why & how’. I believe this type of education brought into schools to various populations could start to help people fend off disease much better; we all need this especially future generations….but I hate the way other channels or individuals sensationalise these topics or try to profit from them eg programs and supplements etc as then it gives the whole area a bad name - thanks for these videos Dr Sung! 🙂

Very good presentation, however you did not mention how long after commencing the fast, does AUTOPHAGY gets activated. I may be different for everyone, but please provide the average time to activation
So far ive reaserched that doing alternative day fasting 18/6 for 3 days a week for 1 month , 3 times a year is the best way for me as im already ripped and i do not want too loose any weight so Im doing it only for health benefits . I read that there should be 1 non fasting day between your fasting days , this will then keep the muscle mass and keep your size . There is so many different methods . i just dont know which one would be best for someone like me who has a high metabolism and finds it hard to gain weight
Does (can) Autophagy clean out misfolded protein/amyloid in areas besides the brain? All the videos I see are specific to dementia and the brain but it seems to me, why wouldn’t Autophagy also work against misfolded proteins on other body organs? As someone with AL-Amyloidosis I am very interested in alternatives to harsh medications/treatments.
I’m down to a 7 hour eating window every day, but having troubles getting all my calories in that window. I don’t necessarily want to lose weight, but would love to one day get down to one meal a day. Would my body eventually adjust to one meal a day if I say, keep reducing my eating window by 30 minutes every month or so?

So many Functional Medicine Doctors are talking about Intermittant Fasting. And among them, Dr. Sung's vidoes are very relevant and informative.

what’s the ideal ratio for fasting? 16/8, 20/4, etc. i try to do it on weekdays and then take a break on weekends
Everyone is different. Try out different schedules and see what fits you best.
