Molly Hatchet are from Jacksonville, Fl. They are definitely singing about Florida. There was actually a movement to have this become the official state song of Florida back around 1980.. We all learned 'Suwanee River' as children growing up in Florida elementary school. This song came out when I was in high school, and the petition actually gained a lot of traction. Imagine how it would look today with the 'Florida Man' mythos.
My second favorite Southern Rock band, behind Lynyrd Skynyrd! This sounds like a diss track , because they mention a lot of other Southern Rock bands, but it's really just about giving Florida the love it deserves! Skynyrd was also from Jacksonville Florida, but Sweet Home Alabama, was a big hit for them. Hatchet was all about Florida!
All of the guys on this song and this debut album have passed away over the years. I did a shoeless drum cover of this on my channel, as well as Flirtin' with Disaster and Dreams.
I remember when the album came out. On the back where they had the band members and the instruments they played. All three guitarist were listed as lead guitarist.
A song about all the great Southern Rock bands. Gentle ribbing about Florida being better than the best. In the South, family insults each other but somebody else does it you insult us all.
I consider Molly Hatchet the illegitimate child of the Allman brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd southern rock all the way 🤘✌♥️ try " Fall of The Peace Makers "
This is grade -A prime most definitely Florida Brand party music . 3 guitar players talkin' to us with their individual tones and twang & to each other in wicked layered ,textured harmonies ,Bass , drums & Danny Joe tellin us why it's just hotter in FL. Not as much elbow room now but it's still out there in the swamp. We got gators too. Lots .
Ahh , the sweet sound of guitar driven Southern Rock. These boys carried the torch well after such a gut punch losin' Skynyrd. He said Elvin Bishop btw. Try-The Price You Pay or The Creeper by them.
Yep! As good as any Southern Rock band from that period. I only saw them twice in the early 80's, and one of those times was on a strange bill opening for KISS, on their "Creatures of the Night" tour. Loved the first 3 albums and then they fell off the map...
During their original lineup, they had one of the strongest three guitar players ever. Never have been disappointed with Molly Hatchet's lead guitarists they flow from one into the other. For me, breaking down which guy is doing what part is fun and helps me finding out what pedals they were using at the time.
Not Elvis Presley, that's Elvin Bishop, who did Fooled Around And Fell In Love. Before that song, he had a number called Struttin My Stuff, give it a listen.
this is a trip down memory lane of old southern rock songs ...he mentions skynrd, marshall tucker, charlie daniels, the outlaws, elvin bishop ..marshall tuckers song "green grass and high tides" references skynrds "sweet home alabama" and probably some other references i cant recall ..
Gator Country is Florida. Band is definitely Southern rock. They list almost all of the Southern rock bands in this song, that were their contemporaries. He said "Elvin Bishop," not Elvis Presley. Elvin is another Southern rock artist.
I live / raised in Jax and fell in love with Hatchet as a teenager. Still my favorite Southern Rock band. Will be seeing them in May twice. Once at the Palatka blue crab festival then again In Ponte Vedra.
@@TheSoloAsylum It's as close as southern rock ever got. "Skynyrd says it's a real sweet home but it ain't nothing to me" isn't exactly a compliment, LOL.
Welcome to Southern Rock guys. He mentions other Southern Rock bands in this song. Elvin Bishop, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd too. He just wants to go back to FLORIDA!!! Everglades = Green Grass, Gulf Coast = High Tides. Check out their other song, "BOUNTY HUNTER"...
Southern rock is probably my fav. Have you done Marshall Tucker song “Can’t You see” ? Can’t find it. If you do you have to do the only live version out there. Blues, country, rock, and the best soulful heartbreak song ever.
Is it me or do I hear Gary Rossington influenced playing? I love Skynyrd, play it pretty in heaven Gary and to all the past members and all the rest of the greats from The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jimi H. to everyone is now rockin' out.
such a good song, whisky man is another but don't get fooled by the intro that sounds a lot like flirtn with disaster also I might add some of the best album art around.
southern rock. come on man. Molly Hatchett, Blackfoot, 38. special, Marshall tucker band, Charlie Daniels, Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, all southern rock. of course the list goes on and on. those are just a few
@Asia&BJ "Elvin Bishop" is who they refernced in the song. Hey, you folks going to do a reaction to Orianthi's "How Does It Feel"? She's a female version of Eddie VanHalen!
Southern Rock is the best...You need to do Rossington Collins band "Don't misunderstand me"....The band is the members who survived the Lynyrd Skynyd band
All of these guys were the most underrated guitar players.....evah. Molly Hatchet IS Southern Rock.
Molly Hatchet are definitely southern rock. At one time back in rhe day they were considered one of the best 3 guitar attack bands. rock on y'all
Molly Hatchet was 100% southern rock.
3 guitars and a bass, all moving in unison on stage. Danny Joe Brown with those amazing vocals. Good times, good jams. 🔥
Excellent comment.
Danny Joe's voice stands alone!
They managed to mention 90% of every Southern Rock Band
There from Florida Jacksonville to be exact
Great follow up to this. Outlaws "green grass and high tides". Outlaws is another great southern rock band out of Tampa FL.
When I lived in Florida I drove an airboat, and I loved listening to this tune while riding free in the Everglades.🐊
Yes, this is a tribute to Molly Hatchet's home state of Florida. And they mention Elvin Bishop, not Elvis. And the genre is definitely Southern Rock.
I love the mention to all the greats of rock/southern rock. Skynyrd, Charlie D., Allman Bros., etc.. And of course I like me some Hatchet!
This is why southern rock is my favorite genre. Guitar Rock is great! Southern Rock is Guitar Rock multiplied!
Bounty Hunter was the first song from Molly Hatchet i heard.....straight to the record store and bought this album.
I have the cassette in my truck and it’ll have to break before I take it out.
One of Southern Rocks Finest. They have a slew of hits. " Satisfied Man" " Boogie No More " Cheatin Woman " to name a few.
You need to see them live! (YT) I saw them four times and they were awesome everytime. 1979 to 83 was their heyday.
Molly Hatchet
Bounty Hunter
Boogie No More
Fall Of The Peacemakers
OMG I love Molly Hatchet!! So glad y’all reacted to this band.
Glad y’all getting turned on to some of the greatest music the late 70’s had!!
All of the guys on this song and this debut album have passed away over the years. I did a shoeless drum cover of this on my channel, as well as Flirtin' with Disaster and Dreams.
Jacksonville Fla gave us Molly Hatchet and Lynyrd Skynyrd
Then called it a day😂
@@davidsmejkal9423 Not hardly
and 38 Special,Blackfoot,Derek Trucks and The Allman Brothers got their start there too
@@ktwebbdevilhought Allmans we’re from Georgia?
38 Special and the Allman Brothers
This whole album is great! 😎👍🍻
I remember when the album came out. On the back where they had the band members and the instruments they played. All three guitarist were listed as lead guitarist.
Oh they're southern, from my hometown of Jacksonvill3 Florida. Grew up listening to these good folks
Like the Skynyrd boys and girls, they’re a Jacksonville, FL band. 🥰🎶
Saw them in Fayetteville, NC in '79. They blew the roof off.
A song about all the great Southern Rock bands. Gentle ribbing about Florida being better than the best. In the South, family insults each other but somebody else does it you insult us all.
Another bad ass southern rock band. My personal fave. They were a hit with the first 2 albums...definitely good vibe!
This is what happens when you dip your rock n roll in gravy!
Deep fried southern rock!!
I consider Molly Hatchet the illegitimate child of the Allman brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd southern rock all the way 🤘✌♥️ try " Fall of The Peace Makers "
Saw hatchet several times in the 70’s, the DJB band also
Gator country is Florida. He says Tampa in the song. Molly Hatchet is southern rock. Probably the best southern rock band from that time.
One of the bands mentioned was the Outlaws. Give them a listen Green Grass High times
Tides
An anthem for all of those born and raised in the free state of Florida!
This is grade -A prime most definitely Florida Brand party music . 3 guitar players talkin' to us with their individual tones and twang & to each other in wicked layered ,textured harmonies ,Bass , drums & Danny Joe tellin us why it's just hotter in FL. Great Southern rock band. All of the original members have passed on. Check out Boogie No More by them. Great song. First two albums are phenomenal.
Molly Hatchett. When two lead guitars just aren't enough. RIP boys.
Molly Hatchet is my favorite southern rock band next to 38 Special! Very underrated band!
Good old tune . Thanks for playing
Ahh , the sweet sound of guitar driven Southern Rock. These boys carried the torch well after such a gut punch losin' Skynyrd. He said Elvin Bishop btw. Try-The Price You Pay or The Creeper by them.
Great band that never really received the props they deserved IMO.
Yep! As good as any Southern Rock band from that period. I only saw them twice in the early 80's, and one of those times was on a strange bill opening for KISS, on their "Creatures of the Night" tour. Loved the first 3 albums and then they fell off the map...
@@keithkoenig5320they were also on the Black and Blue tour with Blue Oyster Cult Black Sabbath and Riot ..
@@keithkoenig5320 totally agree🍻🎶
Ditto for THE OUTLAWS who are named in the lyrics.
They were the best when Danny Joe Brown sang

That is a signature guitar sound made famous by The Outlaws Floridas guitar Army.
Absolutely southern rock....
FINALLY, one of my favorite channels did this song! I call it "the only diss track in southern rock history."
Sweet Home Alabama?
@@karowak1 Well... the only one poking at other southern bands and states, anyway. Point taken. LOL
it's not a "diss" track
@@TheSoloAsylum It's as close as southern rock ever got. "Skynyrd says it's a real sweet home but it ain't nothing to me" isn't exactly a compliment, LOL.
@@joeday4293 Skynyrd is also from Florida, as well as the Outlaws. and friends of MH.
Oh hell yes, they were southern rock!!!
you get the whole Southern Rock roster mentioned in this song..kickarse
You guys are right southern rock 👍👍👍👍🤟
Southern rock... their 3rd(if I remember right) had an awesome rocking song by the title song." Beating the Odds"
You should do “Green grass and high tides” by the Outlaws. Like they mentioned in the song.
My brother’s godfather was the Outlaws bass player in the 90’s and Molly Hatchet’s old drummer berry boyd or B.B. was in the band @ that same time…
Wish I could whistle like this dude!
They’re Southern Rock! Great genre
Welcome to Southern Rock guys.
He mentions other Southern Rock bands in this song.
Elvin Bishop, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd too.
He just wants to go back to FLORIDA!!!
Everglades = Green Grass,
Gulf Coast = High Tides.
Check out their other song, "BOUNTY HUNTER"...
And Dicky Betts Allman bros😊
Those were all great Southern Bands they mentioned.
They’re great in concert !!
you guys should do rosington collins band "dont misunderstand me" !!
Asia & BJ, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins were members of Lynyrd Skynryd.
Seen them open for someone, they did a 30 minute segway of their hits, it was amazing, never forgot it.
Its Elvin Bishop, check out their song, Travelin shoes
Dave Hlubek is on my top 10 guitarists list. I just like his style.
Definitely!
Asia, it’s southern rock!
Such an underated band
Just love the band and especially this song. A southern rock song just isn’t a southern song without that whistle.
BJ, yes, they are completely Southern Rock.....damn good, too.
That's it, Southern Rock!
Florida FOR SURE ! React to there studio version "Boogie No More".......... U 2 WILL NOT be disappointed !
Stone in your heart, satisfied man, flirting with disaster, dreams I'll never see

Whoop whoop. Southern boogie rock at its finest🤘❤️. They had 25 guitars too😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 but serious. They had it going on with great stage presence
Went to see them twice.Wow.they were great and had the best album covers.
With so many seniors in Florida I wonder if the slow ones disappeared because they weren't able to outrun a gator 😆
Watched the news lately?
Gators like tourist but their favorite meal is democrats.
