Classic Rock at it's finest. This may be my favorite of all Classic Rock songs. I dare you to ride down the road with this one blasting. You might wind up with a speeding ticket.
I was a freshman in HS in 1980 and was fortunate enough to go see them for this album tour. GREAT live show! I swear at the end of the concert when they played this song -- they must have had 5 guitars and a bass all lined up in sync playing it was fantastic. FALL OF THE PEACEMAKERS is amazing.
Excellent choice, I can't count the number of times we listened to this riding around dinking and smoking. Keep on going down the Southern rabbit hole. Wet Willie, Stillwater, Blackfoot, The Outlaws, 38 Special, Government Mule, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, The Drive By Truckers, The Tedeschi-Trucks Band, Blackberry Smoke and The Georgia Satellites.

Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, and Allman Brothers Band are all southern rock bands from Jacksonville, Florida. Must be something in the water there!
I only remember hearing this tune on the radio, but my friend had the album (which I promptly borrowed in order to rip a tape!), and it seems like all the songs were bangers.
Danny Joe Brown (original singer) died in 2005. I saw them in the 80s at drive in theater in Spartanburg SC. They had 2 lead guitar players then that alternated solos and also did some dual solos. “Whiskey Man” and “Bounty Hunter” are classics too.

I'm from Edmonton in western Canada and had the great pleasure of seeing Molly Hatchet twice early on in their career. The first time was for the Flirtin' With Disaster Tour. I think we frost-bitten Canadians surprised the hell out of the band because we wouldn't let them go after their show. We called them for encores three times. The last time they came out in shorts and t-shirts to play. An awesome night for the band and the fans. It doesn't really matter where you come from. Great music will always unite the masses.
I was born in '64, so late the '70's & early 80's were my teenage years. I grew up in rural South Florida (east coast) where Southern Rock was standard issue music. Our favorites were Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Allman Brothers and many other fantastic groups. What a wonderful era it was to live in! We had the best times of our lives.
Molly Hatchet received high praise from Ronnie Van Zant back when they were still on the club scene, before they had a recording contract. They had a heavier sound that Ronnie said he'd like to see Skynyrd get that heavy one day. BTW, check out their cover of Allman Brothers Dreams I'll Never See. My personal favorite by Molly Hatchet. The guitar solos are spread between the 3 guitarists. Each playong different parts, hence the different sounds.
This impressed me so much as a kid hearing it on a huge record player from the 40s that shook the room. This was in like 2008, but still a legendary sound. Twisted Sisters song "Captain Howdy" is about the demon from The Exorcist thats named that. Only says it in a short part of the movie when the girl says "I was playing with Captain Howdy."
Great band! I kind of think of them as the heavy metal of southern rock! They began in the seventies but had their most success in the early to mid eighties. I saw them, in of all places, Six Flags Magic Mountain….it was a great show!
I saw Molly Hatchet twice within a year 80/81, but not with this singer, Danny Joe Brown. I did see the Danny Joe Brown band later in 81. 😂 I actually sang a song on stage with one of the bassists (many lineup changes thru the years) for the band when he used to sit in with the house band at a club on base in Orlando, FL I used to frequent when I was stationed down there. The song was Molly Hatchet's version of The Allman Bros.' "Dreams I'll Never See." The house band used to let me get up and sing with them frequently, and Riff (RIP) was going out with the singer and would come in on occasion and sit in with them for a song or two. One night my stars aligned. 😊 Southern rock to the core! Florida boys. Gator country. And the album artwork by Frank Frazetta...yeah, they kicked ass!

The 16th note high hat was a backing track dub. I never saw them live, but there is no way the intro could have been played live without a percussionist. Even Rush when live used backing tracks. It's where music, at the highest level has gone. For a drummer, it might be a shuffle that is added in. For a guitarist, it may be a brief, slipped in, secondary riff. The late 70s through the mid 90s produced some amazing music
Being a huge southern rock fan, this song has always been one of my very favorites. It just rocks from start to finish. I've always love the 3 guitar bands like them, Skynyrd and others.
I saw them on this tour. They warmed up Black Sabbath/Blue Oyster Cult (The Black and Blue Tour). All 3 bands were great! But what an eclectic pairing of southern rock and heavy metal. Kind of ironic that Molly had the most metal album artwork of the three. The music and production were on par with Skynyrd'd best songs.
Loved Molly Hatchet. All their music rocked and their album covers featured artwork from my favorite artist Frank Frazetta who was considered the godfather of fantasy art.
@@setonhillstudios forgot to mention that Frank also did album covers for many other musicians, Roy Orbison, Nazareth, Yngwie Malmsteen and Wolfmother just to name a few.

My father was asked by these guys to go on tour with them and play keys in the early 80’s. He turned them down because I was a little toddler at the time and he didn’t want to leave the family. If I knew the time, I would have told him to go. Lol. Not because I wouldn’t have wanted him around but because that would have been cool! lol. Now he is a local legend and that is just as cool.
If I remember correctly the singer, Danny Joe Brown had to leave the band for awhile due to health issues. He did some solo work. One song I remember was The Edge of Sundown. Also worth listening to .
Awesome song! My buddies and I used to jam to Molly Hatchet and KISS on LP's back in the day. Hatchet was another of those Southern guitar armies. You should do Bounty Hunter by them next!
I remember listening to this album the first time in 79 on an hour long school bus trip. My buddy had a battery-operated 8 track player and had the volume cranked to the max. Every one of us jammed the whole trip. When we got back, I immediately went out and got a copy for myself.
As Southern Rock became more acceptable around the country the major labels were taking notice what Phil Walden had done with Capricorn Records. Epic Records signed Molly Hatchet, Nantucket, Mothers Finest and more.
