The band’s first 2 albums defined them. Frontman Danny Joe Brown had to quit the band after the 2nd album due to diabetes which eventually killed him. The rest of the original band have all passed, a few of them in their 50s due to “hard living”. MH was the last southern rock band to achieve success as the genre faded. I saw them twice & they were incredibly exciting. They even did their version of Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” as an encore, which was enormously ballsy, but they pulled it off. RIP all those guys.
So back in the day... this was everyday music. drivin around with the windows down and the music playin loud. Areosmith, Zeppelin, the Who, Foghat, it was common every day stuff. We didnt realize then, how it would go downhill as the end of the era faded. 🎸
Sad it's gone, and I'm 66 years old and took all that fabulous music for granted. It was just like breathing hearing this music. It was everywhere, and Lord Knows I never thought it would disappear.
Remember the concert in 1981 on the Flirting with Disaster tour. The song actually released on 1979. My husband at the time, actuality got to help their roadies load the truck after the concert. Not sure how he did that but he did lol. Love this song still today 43 years later.
The artist on the album was Frank Frazetta who also did cover art for re-releases of Robert E Howard;s Conan novels. I had a Molly Hatched concert jersey that had that Frazetta art on it. Coolest shirt i ever owned.
Molly Hatchet is an AWESOME band. You really need to go down that rabbit hole. My fav is Dreams I'll Never See. Guarantee you'll love it, has a great guitar solo as well. Great cover art on all their albums.
That is a deep rabbit hole lol. I have been a Hatchet fan since e 1983. Up to that point I was all country. This isn't even their best song lol. The Rambler, Fall of the Peacemakers, Dreams I'll Never See, the whole first album. Molly Hatchet was famous for pinning you to the wall from the first note. Just Nota fan of anything after 89
Last year NY resolution was to see one concert Every month! Did it too! Saw Molly Hatchet October 23, still rocking hard with new lead singer who is about 25!! Rest are around 65-70. They are recording new album in UK at Abbey Road!! Be out in April ish. Amazing sound these guys still have!
I remember when my dad told me this was his favorite song when he was a teenager in high school driving around in his ‘69 Chevelle. He passed away when I was 18 y/o just a couple months before graduation and everytime I hear this song I can’t help but to crank it up to the max and think of him. ❤️❤️
Funny he reminds you of Ronnie Van Zant because this vocal inflection is definitely a Ronnie Van Zantism >>> 10:15 >>> *_". . . and you are TOO baby!"_*
Both they and Skynyrd were from Jacksonville. After Skynyrd died, the "Who's gonna take their place" was raised. Molly Hatched and 38 Special both stood up, said "hold my beer." And let her rip.
All I can say is that I treasure all of the music from back in the day. The 70's was such an amazing time for rock bands period. Doobie Brothers, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Foghat, ZZ Top, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Queen and of course Molly Hatchet. You had the best singer songwriters with James Taylor, Seals and Croft, John Denver, Loggins and Messina. No better R&B than in the 70's too. The blue eyed soul of Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald and we had some of the best music of all time from Earth, Wind and Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and you can't leave out MJ. His Off The Wall album and Jackson's Triumph are definitely two of my favorites. I notice you have reacted to a number of MJ and Paul McCartney songs... if you want to hear something fun - react to Mick Jagger and the Jackson's song "State of Shock". It is so much fun just because you don't ever expect this pairing. I loved disco too. I started dancing with a partner and we worked with some local dance instructors to choreograph some routines. Of course initially it included the Bee Gees and normal disco tunes but my favorites were the routines we came up with for Toto's Georgy Porgy and Boz Scaggs Jojo. I thought it was so amusing to be dancing to a song that sounded as sophisticated as Jojo when the lyrics are talking about a drug dealing pimp. No one ever seemed to catch on. I love the 80's too. My favorite artist of all time is George Michael - You need to do something live from him. He was just spectacular. George has so many wonderful duets. He has one with Paul McCartney called Heal the Pain and I honestly have a hard time being able to tell which one of them is singing at any one time. They sound so familiar but beautiful together. After Paul's wife Linda passed away, they held a memorial concert for her. George sang Paul's song The Long and Winding Road and I well up everytime I hear it. Paul said George did a better job with the song than he did. Anyway, the 70's was when I really started listening to music and what an amazing time it was. I am so glad you guys are giving yourselves the gift of hearing these songs and letting us watch. So fun!
One of the best live bands I ever saw. Saw then at a place called Shiley Acres near Inwood WV. Probably around 1986 or so. It was a stage set up in a pasture surrounded by a chain link fence. Shows were always on Sunday and I think they started at noon. You couldn't buy beer on Sundays in WV until 1pm on Sundays and there was a 7/11 about a mile from the venue. The parking lot was packed with people waiting to but beer and you generally missed the opening act waiting in line for beer. They came out on stage firing off shot guns and for a small band sounded really good. And they were genuinely having fun which made it all the better.
Like most, I know exactly where the whistle is and saw the “Dukes of Hazzard” movie was coming on. My girl didn’t want to watch, I told her “The sound track’s worth it” I named the song from the first note (easy, nothing like it), but when I whistled on time, it blew her mind.
Wife Speaking...WOW..brings back memories.., I was a night club owner and we ( my partner and I ) hired them to do a concert at my club in 1997..You talk about the Alpha Males coming out...They sure did..!! !And there's nothing wrong with that!!!!! We completely sold out that night..Wow..What a memory!!!
Yeah, these boy's can play! 😁Now you need to hear their version of Greg Allman's "Dreams," it's a rarity when a cover is better than the original. The guitar work is both, melancholic and sublime...
One of the best rock songs ever! And shoutout to the bassist who doesn't get the same coverage as the drummer and guitar. I understand it, they are standouts but listen to the awesome bass too!
There was something special in the water (or whiskey) up in Jacksonville Florida, back in the 70s! They produced, Skynyrd, Hatchet and Blackfoot! The Allman Brothers also had strong ties to the area. I've heard that, Whipping post, was written there.
Molly Hatchet was one of those bands that were always opening up a concert back in the late 70's and early 80's along with bands like Legs Diamond, Axe, Point Blank, and UFO. Y'all should check other songs from them like Gator Country, Fall of the Peacemakers, and Bloody Reunion (different singer). Unfortunately all the original members off this record have all passed away....R.I.P.
WHAT MEMORIES YOU-GUYS brought back, TODAY!! :) GREAT REACTION!!! Great Southern Sound!! LOVE the WHISTLES!!! Such a MOVIN' TUNE!!! Great summer song!! Love their album art, too - if I'm not mistaken: Frank Frazetta.... HUGS TO YOU-GUYS!!! :) ❤❤❤❤❤
You hear whistles in many Southern Rock songs. Saw Molly Hatchet twice in the early 80"s, awesome shows. 3 guitars and the bass all moving in sync. Danny Joe never stands still unless he's singing, he's dancing, clapping and moving on that stage. 🤘
I saw them once. Incredible show. Flirtin With Disaster tour.. I won't get into details. LOL! The artworks for their album covers was done by Frank Frazetta... Also known for Conan the Barbarian novels artwork.
Molly Hatchet, love southern Rock Little Feat, 38 special, Rossington Collins. Brings back memories! Good reaction guys❤️. More Atlanta Rhythm Section Imaginary Lover, or more Allman Brothers. Pure Prairie League "Amiee, Angel, Early morning riser. Kenny Loggins and Messina"Angry eyes, Danny's Song, Pooh corner" Steely Dan: Peg, Gaucho, Babylon Sisters, FM, Home at Last, Hey 19, Bad Sneakers, Time out of Mind; Fleetwood Mac "The Chain", Heart "Even it up" Candy Dulfer "Sax a gogo" Fourplay "Eastbound & between the sheets"
A lot of well-deserved 'heys' from Nick on this one. Kick-ass Southern rock. I LOVE this song. Probably my favorite Southern rock song. The music is incredible, but the lyrics are awesome, too. Next time you get around to them, Dreams I'll Never See would be a great choice. It's totally different from this one but equally as good. Great Southern rock guitar solo along with a dreamy tempo in the rest of the song. I don't listen to Molly Hatchet often but when I do, so do my neighbors.
…The part with the tasty , jazzy drum part with the airy guitar overlay , and Danny Joe chimes in “…It ain’t for everybody “. No I guess it ain’t, but it sure ‘nuff works for me!
Roy Clarke and Glenn Campbell could go from banjo to guitar in a heartbeat and both could play them like heavy metal. Southern guitar solos are like a barbeque.
Reminds me of the days playing NASCAR video game with my son over 20 years ago. This song would play on a loop with a couple of other tunes during the race. Great song
When I was a kid back in the late 70s and early 80s, this song always induced a few extra power slides around the corners in our beat up trucks and cars when we were out two trackin and six packin after school. Great reaction guys. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some wonderful memories.
Frank Frazetta, The guy who painted those famous Molly Hatchet album covers lived in the Pocono Mountains in Pa. We visited his little shop in the mid 80's . Very cool dude and seeing those famous paintings without the Molly Hatched name on them was quite the experience. Molly Hatchet is my all time favorite Southern Rock Band mainly because they were a bit heavier than Lynryd Skynryd or their ilk. Fun reaction.
Today, there's Yacht Rock. In the 1970's is was Highway Rock. So many bands to play while going 50 miles an hour over the speed limit late at night. Bachman Turner Overdrive might have been the masters. Try "Roll on Down the Highway". Try "Let It Ride" Other songs like "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar... Try staying under the speed limit driving to these beats... .
song was inspired by Dave Hlubek and a near fatal motorcycle accident. his name is pronounced (loo-beck) the h is silent. one of the few bands to feature 3 guitar players who can alsonplay lead.
I played in a southern country rock back in the 80s . We played : Let The Good Times Roll . A good song for you 3 guys to check out. I remember flying alway's down a two lane county road in the in the Texas hill country between Boerne and New Braunfels in a 76' Firebird Formula with Flirting with Disaster and other southern rock blasting through my speakers on the way to the gig...the best of times 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎶
Southern rock is it's own genre/thing. Can you say the Allman Brothers, the Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc... Also, check out the Tedeschi/Trucks band for the same vibe currently. They just kill it.
Danny Joe Brown was the singer. Sadly, he has passed away as well as the bassist Riff West. They were good fronds of mine and I always had back stage passes. You have never seen such fast finger works on the guitars. Dreams I'll never see is one of their songs that showcases their true style too.
Couldn't beat that triple threat of Guitars from Dave Hlubek, Duane Roland and Steve Holland the awesome Bass of Banner Thomas and the pounding of the Bruce Crump Drums and we cannot forget the Voice Danny joe Brown, the original lineup all have passed away so no original members are with us, the Molly Hachet around now is nothing more than a tribute band IMO.
I didn't get the whistling at first....till I saw them live on TV...like Ronnie Van Zant, Danny Joe Brown would whistle and point to one of the guitarists...as if to say 'okay....now YOU solo!'
A little surprised you guys haven't delved into some Molly Hatchet yet. Admittedly it was 1981 when I moved to E-Town from the Chicago area, but you couldn't have gotten through a week without hearing them back then. Your elders failed you! 😏
imagine driving to high school with this playing in the country 5 miles out and you get to the parking lot and have to shut it down and got to school........
What a time to be young. We all experimented with car stereo's, FM radio was new and great music was everywhere. I miss the 70's and 80's. Todays music can't hold a candle to that time and the musicians didn't have "autotune'.
Thanks guys. So glad you reacted to this song. It has always been one of my favorites. I love the drums and the guitar solo, but my favorite parts are when the guitar in the second chorus comes in. He never plays the exact same thing. It is always slightly different which I always thought was a cool effect. When Ryan said he could dance to it, I had to laugh. I used to go in my basement and crank up the sound and dance to it all the time.
This, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” by The Allman Brothers and “Green Grass and High Tides” by The Outlaws are my favorite Southern Rock songs. Great reaction guys!
Of course this song is absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Unfortunately, every single original member of this band is now dead. Not only that but the original replacements for 5 out of the 6 original members are also dead. This band has experienced tragedy like no other band except for Lynyrd Skynyrd. R.I.P. to all. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
When we were in middle school back in the early 80s when this came out we used to think that last line was “Been out and buttfuck yeah!” 😂 Listen to Gator Country, boys.
This song rocks! I flashback to the mid'90s when I saw them in a club in a small resort town in upstate NY (Lake George). Before the band took the stage, they came over to where I was at the Foosball table and they allowed me to kick their butts for a couple beverages (little did they know they were 'flirtin' with disaster') 😁 Then they got up there rocked the place!
The band’s first 2 albums defined them. Frontman Danny Joe Brown had to quit the band after the 2nd album due to diabetes which eventually killed him. It was everywhere, and Lord Knows I never thought it would disappear.
A-MEN to that!!!!
Truth!
At 63.......I fell in love with them all over again 💕
@@williamwarlick3497they erased the recordings?
Danny Joe Brown is such a vastly underrated singer!! One of the best singers ever. R.I.P DANNY JOE BROWN!!!
Molly Hatchet is Southern Rock with teeth!
This entire album is FIRE from start to finish. We wore it out back in the day. Whiskey Man, Gunsmoke, Boogie No More.....
They actually had 3 guitar players who could all deliver blistering solo's each. They worked well together too.
Growing up in Jacksonville, Molly were huge. We loved them. Had the honor of meeting most of them before they passed away
Their drummer, Bruce Crump, was the Neal Peart of Southern Rock. RIP Bruce.....band.
Yep. I think he could have easily switched to Rush if they had ever called on him. He was very gifted, for sure.
Bruce was the "Doctuh" 😉
That's true...very well said. Amazing drummer
3 guitars, bass and a drummer. No fancy keyboards, just pure southern guitar.
Remember the concert in 1981 on the Flirting with Disaster tour. The song actually released on 1979. My husband at the time, actuality got to help their roadies load the truck after the concert. Not sure how he did that but he did lol. Love this song still today 43 years later.
I wasn't the only teen who got a speeding ticket back in 1979 with this song blasting though the speakers!!!!
Yep, them and George T-good.
The artist on the album was Frank Frazetta who also did cover art for re-releases of Robert E Howard;s Conan novels. I had a Molly Hatched concert jersey that had that Frazetta art on it. Coolest shirt i ever owned.
Molly Hatchet still gets me going!

I saw Molly Hatchet in concert in Wilmington, N.C. in 1978. Great concert. Musicians had a lot of talent back them.
I remember the radio ads when they were coming to town; "The Triple Guitar Attack of Molly Hatchet."
I have seen Molly Hatchet Multiple times, always GREAT Show!
Me too. I saw them 7 times. There will never be another Danny Joe Brown
I don't know why I've not heard Molly Hatchet until now. I was certainly around during their heyday. Great tune, thanks!
I remember when my dad told me this was his favorite song when he was a teenager in high school driving around in his ‘69 Chevelle. Ronnie Van Zant, Fozzy Bear, and Charles Barkley… best description ever!😂 That’s why I love watching you guys!

Boogie no more or Dreams I’ll never see are my all time faves! saw them 2 times in concert and I tell ya there was loads and loads of danincin !
The album artwork was done by legendary fantasy artist, Frank Frazetta. Search his work along with Boris Vallejo.
Omgosh… 38 Special… Caught Up In You! You guys would love that song!
This, and "The Breeze" by Skynyrd, are the ultimate Southern rock!!!
Full-Tilt BOOGIE!

You got to watch the live version of these guys on stage
I saw Molly Hatchet open for Reo Speedwagon in 1979. A great live band.
Adding this to my Speeding Ticket playlist, right alongside Kickstart My Heart
Instant bobbleheads lol love it !
The whistle was the signal to trade off solos between Dave Hlubek and Duane Roland. A Segway.
Indeed, the famous horse whistle from Danny Joe!
Like most, I know exactly where the whistle is and saw the “Dukes of Hazzard” movie was coming on. My girl didn’t want to watch, I told her “The sound track’s worth it” I named the song from the first note (easy, nothing like it), but when I whistled on time, it blew her mind.

11:30 sounds like the Allman brothers!

One of the best live acts out there. Guess you found that out that night. Good stuff.
I saw them on tour same year in 97. brainerd minnesota.
Phoenix in 77-78. They opened for The Outlaws & stole the show! Sad for the Outlaws but they were boring after their energy!!
@@pammcnary Opened for bob seger richfield coliseum, may9th 1979 - blew bob out, kids today have no clue.
I saw them live twice. First time was at a club in Panama City Beach. Spinnakers was the place. They put on a great show.
Gator Country is a killer tune. If you want to know the names of all the southern rock bands listen to this song because he names them ALL !!!!!
Yeah, these boy's can play! 😁Now you need to hear their version of Greg Allman's "Dreams," it's a rarity when a cover is better than the original. The guitar work is both, melancholic and sublime...
They did a great job there, 100 percent
Saw them open for Foreigner in January 1979 in Portland OR. One of the great concerts I saw ever.
The lead singer is Danny Joe Brown, and he is fire!
Nice catch with the connection to Detroit Rock City!! Nice.
One of the best rock songs ever! And shoutout to the bassist who doesn't get the same coverage as the drummer and guitar. I understand it, they are standouts but listen to the awesome bass too!
Now it is time to hit " Green Grass and High Tides " by The Outlaws, a Southern Rock classic. Guitar heaven!
Such a unique voice. I wish I could have seen them live with the original line-up. The three-headed guitar assault. LOVE IT!

My sweet little Mother used to whistle for us to come in at night. Thank you for the wonderful memories ♥️
Yeah, this one was a rockin' staple in southern bars & clubs. Great song! Thanks for your reaction.
After the Skynyrd disaster , these boys came along and carried the torch. Sweet guitar driven Southern Rock. May the all Rest In Peace.

I remember my ex playing Nascar '98 and I think this was the song they played for Poconos Speedway. My favorite Molly Hatchet song is Gator Country.
Great band to see live. I saw them with Rush in '79.
imagine driving to high school with this playing in the country 5 miles out and you get to the parking lot and have to shut it down and got to school........
Hopefully THIS TIME it won’t get taken down
checkin in... great song ,solo, drums ,its got every damn thing in it !!! great now i wanna flirt with a disaster
6:07 that’s a good impression 😂
That is three of the best guitarests. Check live version
What a time to be young. We all experimented with car stereo's, FM radio was new and great music was everywhere. I miss the 70's and 80's. Todays music can't hold a candle to that time and the musicians didn't have "autotune'.
Love to love by UFO is a great classic rock song . Great banger and guitar

Drank beer smoked weed cruising listening to this in high school.
It is impossible to drive the speed limit with this song
This, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” by The Allman Brothers and “Green Grass and High Tides” by The Outlaws are my favorite Southern Rock songs. Great reaction guys!
Of course this song is absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Unfortunately, every single original member of this band is now dead. Not only that but the original replacements for 5 out of the 6 original members are also dead. This band has experienced tragedy like no other band except for Lynyrd Skynyrd. R.I.P. to all.

Dare you to blast this and stay under the speed limit.
"Fall of the Peacemakers"
Saw these guys as part of a New Years Eve festival show back in 2000 and they were great...
Dreams I'll Never See and Gator Country are fire!
When we were in middle school back in the early 80s when this came out we used to think that last line was “Been out and buttfuck yeah!” 😂
Listen to Gator Country, boys.
Flirtin with a speeding ticket 😂
My best fried in High School got into Molly Hatchet in large part because of the Frank Frazetta cover art.
My Mount Rushmore of Southern Rock
This song rocks! I flashback to the mid'90s when I saw them in a club in a small resort town in upstate NY (Lake George). Before the band took the stage, they came over to where I was at the Foosball table and they allowed me to kick their butts for a couple beverages (little did they know they were 'flirtin' with disaster') 😁 Then they got up there rocked the place!
In this genre of music, it doesn’t get any better!
To have the cassette playing and driving the Ford Ltd the foot turned into lead. Damn lucky I never got a speeding ticket from it )
