Don't you hate when reactors are constantly asking "what genre is this"? That's my biggest pet peeve with music reactors. My 2nd is the reactors who want to provide lyrical analysis of songs I've known since they were released decades ago.
Fun Fact: The James Gang is best known for their guitarist, Joe Walsh, whose playing on this track helped establish him as a superstar axeman. Walsh joined the Cleveland-based group in 1969 after making a name for himself as one of the top guitar men in Ohio. He replaced Glenn Schwartz in the band, who Walsh considers a mentor. They were a 5-piece when Walsh joined, but were down to three (like popular acts Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience) when they released their second album James Gang Rides Again. With just three members, it meant Walsh had to play both rhythm and lead guitar parts, and also sing (he got a lot more help when he joined the Eagles in 1975). It was quite a learning experience for Walsh, who left the James Gang in 1971 after recording three studio albums with the group. - This Song Was A Downloadable Content (DLC) For The Video Game Rock Band 2
Joe Walsh baby! My favorite James Gang song has always been "The Ashes, the Rain, and I", a slow, melancholy song, with just a few lines of lyrics and some great orchestration.
Love me some Joe Walsh and The James Gang! My senior year in H.S, everyone was adding James Gang and Grand Funk Railroad to their vinyl collections. When I think of the great bands of my youth, I feel incredibly blessed! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Fun group, fun song, and fun to play too. Plus it was a great time to grow up in. I turned a teenager in 1970, and saw lots of concerts for like $5 to $18 tickets
YES! Some awesome Joe Walsh shredding...that's what I am talking about! Definitely check out The Confessor and Turn to Stone...those two songs will blow your mind for sure.
Joe Walsh is an amazing Guitarist, and has had a long and varied career, with many great bands. Seen the man twice in concert, both times with the Joe Walsh Band, once on his "Confessor" tour and once in a club, coming in drunk off the bus. A freaking riot, and he still rocked out, and he even played "Funk #49" both times.
Long before Joe Walsh played with The Eagles, he started this Band in the early 70s. The James Gang was a combination of Funk, and Hard Rock. Walsh was not only one of the best guitarists in the world, but he was also a gifted song writer as well. One of the greats.
Listened to an interview with Joe and Ozzy. Their bands toured together. They were doing so many drugs neither one could remember a thing about the tour. Saw the James Gang in Detroit in the early seventy's.
There is a "Funk 48" as well. It was on an earlier album. Band was from Cleveland. I grew up in Ohio. So, yes, I have seen them perform live several times (with and without Joe Walsh on lead guitar). Tickets for the first show I saw them play were 50 cents!
My favorite song by my second favorite guitarist (1st being Mark Knopfler). I was lucky enough to see Joe live and this is in his regular lineup and ROCKS!
When Joe was part of the EAGLES he brought the rock to the band while was only a country style of band and he made them into one of the greatest American rock bands ever!!!
crazy story. This is Joe Walsh leading the way and later with the Eagles and also had a great solo career, but……….Adam Jones called Joe Walsh for pointers on how to play the talk box. and then Adam created Jambi. nuts!
...here I was, FNG in Vietnam...was billeted in a barracks-type housing. My first night I heard this, being a kinda rocker from SoCal I was astonished that I'd never heard it. Well, after a couple of nights, this tune rumbling the building, I finally gathered the courage (after all, I was a fuckin' new guy in a Cav troop) and walked down the aisle and introduced myself. My new, and forever, buddy invited me in, offered some vino, and we got into the James Gang. Life changed and my upcoming year of getting shot at got a little easier!
Joe Walsh will never get the recognition he deserves, only because he was and will be forever humbled! A multi-instrumental master, songwriter and producer - Producer of many that would shock you! My favorite Eagle. No Ego Joe.
Seriously, as good as Joe's guitar work is, Dale Peters is right there with him, beat for beat, on the bass. Absolutely phenomenal bass line in this song.
Thank you for the classic rocks! Never gets enough credit and how so much of these decades have influenced almost every genre of music today! Zeppelin the most. These guys were pretty good.
The '70s were a GREAT time to be a teenage male. You bought Reefer by the finger instead of the gram. Acid was still a thing. The "Pill" was getting popular, so the girlies were all about doing the deed. Tight bell-bottom jeans and tube tops were all the rage. We had the best music in the world, and AIDS was still in the future. Good Times!
I’d like to hear your take on a sadly neglected sleeper from that era: “Farewell Song” on the album “Live at Winterland ‘68” by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin. - -
"Walk Away" is another great little James Gang tune.
Probably the best.
and "Woman"
As others have pointed out, the James Gang is fronted by Joe Walsh, whom you guys have already listened to during his solo work and with the Eagles.
When we were kids (60's-70's) we called all of it rock and roll!

That stuff drives me nuts. It's Rock,n,Roll, period. @@robcolditz7000
I file every song I like under the genre "music"
Love me some Funk 49. Fell in love with this song at 16...my high school music in the 70s. Can't go wrong with James Gang and Joe Walsh!

The Eagles joined Joe Walsh.
James Gang Rides Again is one of those albums I listened to start to finish, over and over again without skipping a song.
They did in fact have a Funk #48 that came out in 1969 and this one came out in 1970. The singer/guitarist is Joe Walsh pre-EAGLES.
Joe Walsh Rocks regardless what band he's in
Joe doesn't join bands, Bands join the Joe.
Love the baseline in this song.

The unmistakable sound of Joe Walsh's voice and guitar!!!
There IS a “Funk #48” and it’s awesome as well!

He was once quoted as saying he was picked as lead singer because "my singing sucked the least."
I love his song the Confessor ( but I may be alone)
saw JW on the Confessor tour, opening/co-headlining for Foreigner. absolutely amazing show.
Guitar hero, movies, commercials, very well-known and played.
Love James Gang, every song is fantastic
Holy Cow!! I had this on 8 Track!! Driving around in my 68 Chevy Malibu!! WOW!! Good times!!!🎵🎼🎶🎸🎤🎙🎧🎹🥁🔥🤘🤘
Oh hell yeah!!!! 💯💯💯💯 The James Gang jams!!!! ❤❤❤❤
You will never meet an old school biker that doesn't know this song.

Another nice piece from James Gang is The Bomber: Closet Queen
Joe Walsh also probably the most famous ham radio operator in the world. 😅
They did a Fun 48 and a Funk 50 as well. Main riff is very similar

I'm 68 and grew up in the 70s . And wouldn't have wanted any other way and yes we had the Greatest Music Ever Made.
My favorite song by my second favorite guitarist (1st being Mark Knopfler). I was lucky enough to see Joe live and this is in his regular lineup and ROCKS!
Always down for some Joe Walsh. Try I.L.B.T.'s by Walsh, you'll get a kick out of that song.
I love Joe Walsh solo stuff as well. His song "In the City" from the movie "The Warriors" movie is a damn good tune as well.
The way Smoke was was moving made it look like Jimi was jamming with the band 😆
Thanks for the reaction. I’ve loved this song since it came out in the early 70s. The next song should be Walk Away which is equally good. ✌🏼
Joe Walsh on guitar and lead vocals.
Love this song and I still have the vinyl record 😁🎵
yeah this is an old classic
Good tune! Heard in countless movies and commercials. I wouldn't even know where to start
Glad to see you going back to the classics 👍. Great reaction ❤
James Gang was my first concert in 1974 at George mason University. they were fantastic.
Before the age of streaming, I learned to play guitar so I could hear this whenever I wanted.
Always up for some early Joe Walsh!💘💘💘
a wild song by Joe Walsh & the James Gang - The Bomber
The drum section at 7:06 reminds me of the drum section of Black Sabbath's "Supernaut" (1972).
People may yell at me, but Eye of the Confessor is Walsh's pinnacle. That guitar does something to me.
James Gang Rides Again is a album! Joes guitar work is historic!
That whole album is a banger!!! It's in my top 5 of all time.
You're right, that was indeed Joe Walsh!
How about Walk Away next?
Great review, great song. You definitely need to watch the live version ! 😎🤟
Love watching you guys have fun with this one. It definitely 🔥

Teenybopper is young teenager who follows adolescent trends in culture music and fashion
You may have heard it in The Dukes of Hazzard movie. James Gang is awesome!
Joe is the man! Thank you.
Same Joe Walsh. Eagles. Barnstorm too. ✌🏼
That tell your sister line has unlocked The Allman brothers Stateboro blues.
Have you guys heard Terry Kath play? Try 25 or 6 to 4 live at Tanglewood by Chicago.
When Joe was part of the EAGLES he brought the rock to the band while was only a country style of band and he made them into one of the greatest American rock bands ever!!!

Do THE BOMBER!
From this same album (James Gang Rides Again) you gotta hit THE BOMBER, a seven minute eargasm. Joe Walsh on lead guitar and lead vocals, again.
...here I was, FNG in Vietnam...was billeted in a barracks-type housing. My first night I heard this, being a kinda rocker from SoCal I was astonished that I'd never heard it. Joe Walsh - At the Station
Kick it🤘

All Funk, no Diddy 😂
You probably heard this song in a beer commercial.
The Bomber is the greatest JG tune, even has some Vivaldi? in the song.
Funk yea!
I believe this was featured in a beer commercial years ago.
Joe Walsh... great song pick
Joe Walsh = Rock Icon
Happy new year dudes
Check out James Gang Live at Carnegie Hall…total banger!!
Q: What is the difference between in-laws and outlaws?
A: Outlaws are wanted.😂😂😂
I have seen this band mentioned in your comments a lot!! Every time you do an Eagles song, Joe Walsh is mentioned!!
Seriously, as good as Joe's guitar work is, Dale Peters is right there with him, beat for beat, on the bass. Absolutely phenomenal bass line in this song.
Y’all been doin this long enough to recognize Joe’s guitar sound. 😳🤣🤣
Thank you for the classic rocks! Never gets enough credit and how so much of these decades have influenced almost every genre of music today! Zeppelin the most. These guys were pretty good.

Dude, if you were in your 20s in the 70s, you'd be my age now. I turned 70 this year and yes the 70s DID have the best music. 😎😎😎😎
It hasn't been called Foxbourough Stadium in many, many years...
They did record a Funk #48.
Tom Fox the drummer I think 🤔 totally underrated just kick ass mang!! 😅
Back when i had that 8 track player!!

It's a 3 piece too.
#48 and Walk Away will not disappoint
Joe Walsh, along with everything else, is Ringo Starr's brother-in-law.
Teeney Bopper might be described as an underage music fan.
It’s in Joe Dirt
