CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Snape (Alan Rickman) keeps the promise of the Unbreakable Vow and kills Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) when Draco (Tom Felton) can't.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Adolescent wizard-in-training Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts for another year of schooling and learns more about the dark past of the boy who grew up to become Lord Voldemort in this, the sixth installment of the film series that originated from the writings of author J.K. Rowling. There was a time when Hogwarts was thought of as a safe haven, but thanks to Voldemort's tightening grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds, that simply isn't the case anymore. Suspecting that the castle may even harbor an outright threat, Harry finds his investigation into the matter sidelined by Dumbledore's attempts to prepare him for the monumental battle looming ever closer on the horizon. In order to discover the key to Voldemort's defenses, Dumbledore enlists the aid of resourceful yet unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, who may have a clue as to their enemy's Achilles' heel. Meanwhile, teenage hormones cause the students at Hogwarts to lose focus on their true mission. As Harry and Dean Thomas clash for the affections of the lovely Ginny, Romilda Vane attempts to woo Ron away from Lavender Brown with some particularly tasty chocolates. Even Hermione isn't immune from the love bug, though she tries her hardest to suppress her growing jealousy and keep her emotions bottled up. But there is one student who remains completely aloof from the romance blossoming all around, and he intends to leave a dark impression on his classmates. With tragedy looming ever closer, it begins to appear as if peace will prove elusive in Hogwarts for some time to come.

Literally crying watching this
R.I.P Micheal Gambon 😭

Michael and Alan did a masterpiece scene here! They will be missed. 😢
He did a masterpiece on acting he should’ve been killed in the latest like wakanda forever
R.I.P Micheal Gambon/Albus Dumbludore
RIP Richard Harris, Richard Griffiths, Michael Gambon and Alan Rickman. You will all be missed.
"I don't want your help!" cries Draco.
He lied. He wants Dumbledore's help. He's just too afraid to ask for it.
He actually does need help. He needs to find his skis. He appears to have misplaced them.
Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it - Dumbledore.
Dumledore helped him by not letting draco kill him also severus was loyal to Dumbledore otherise he wouldn't die in place of draco for the elder wand.
@Tyleah Morales you are my mirror
Dumbledore did help them just unknowingly he helped him by making sure that he wasn't the one who had to kill him. That Snape killed him in his place.
The fact that Dumbledore saying, "Severus, please." Is not begging for him not to kill him, but for mercy and the greater good. The fact that you have to "mean it" when you do the killing curse, confirming that Snape did it as a mercy kill.. Still gets me years later.
It wasn't a mercy kill... what you mean is, Dumbledore didn't ask for mercy, he wanted to be killed because it was part of the plan, to both save draco's soul and to get tom's trust, since he only had 1 year left anyway.
Even when you look at Dumbledore's eyes as he says Severus Please His eyes aren't filled with fear it's a relief look and he basically giving him the go ahead, it's alright I need you to do this now. And Severus at the end sounded like he was gonna cry, it broke his heart to have to do it
I don’t think it was the curse that killed dumbledore. It was the fall that killed him. That’s my opinion. Snape didn’t want to kill him so his heart wasn’t it in and for the curse to work I think you have to mean it.
also notice how the color of the spell is blueish instead of green. that's because of the intent. Snape never fully meant to kill him.
@@dazzamcg2369 This is backed up in the book. In the book Dumbledore had cast a Body Bind Curse on Harry (because he knew Harry would try and defend him) and that spell didn't end when Dumbledore was hit by the Avada Kedavra, but when Dumbledore hit the ground.
His voice was shaking when he did the killing curse...
EDIT: and YES, I know he didn't want to do it, I just wanted to point out Alan Rickmans phenomenal acting skills.
Yeah such great acting from the late alan rickman may he rest in peace
That's cause he didn't want to kill him
@@ummjoe But didn't Bellatrix tell harry that you have to truly want to do the unforgivable course in order for it to work? If he wasn't determined to kill Dumbledor, It wouldn't have worked.

The others: Great success now let's get out of here before Bellatrix's cheering gets us caught!
Me: I don't know when she's happy she goes crazy with her
Kourosh Rm7 only for the crucio curse.
I now realized that when Dumbledore said "Severus...please" was not about please do not kill me, or do not do this, but begged him to kill him because otherwise, their plan to destroy the Dark Lord would not have happened. Severus was the victim here, he was not a bad man, he was brave to take the most difficult decision ever..to go over to the dark side and to kill a friend
He left the dark side when he was 20. This was not murder, it was mercy killing. Dumbledore was dying already.
Actually I think that it wasn't about Dumbledore at all. I think what the headmaster actually meant was "Please, take good care of Harry in my stead and explain to him what actually happened." They both looked down, and both knew Harry was there and was watching.
No he was begging to kill him it was explained in the books, they had it all planned out. Dumbledore knew that Draco was not able to kill him and besides he didn’t want him to be a murderer, so Snape should do it. In this way he proves himself loyal to Voldemort and the Elder Wand loses its power.
Duh
Snape may have not been evil but he was not a good man eather

1:23 The last look Dumbledore gave Harry...
Always gives me goosebumps
He looks troubled, but it's not because he's afraid of death, everything is proceeding as he planned and he knows Voldemort thinks everything is proceeding according to his own plan, but as he dies, everything becomes a bit of a gamble, as even tho he can give advice as a "picture" on the wall, he can not step in to protect anyone anymore. He was the leash that hold Voldemort back, with his death, the beast is free to roam as he wishes.

The pain in Severus's eyes when he had to kill the only man who trusted him. Albus Dumbledore, the man who just gave in his whole life and never took anything in return. He is truly the greatest wizard ever.
Are you kidding me? He took everything from Snape with interest. He made him do things he didn’t want to things he couldn’t bare yet he did. He even says sometimes you ask too much of me. He forfeit his life the moment he did as Dumbledore asked of him.
never took anything in return?
what lol
did you not see snape's memories correctly?
@Waryck that's what I said-
He took Snape's almost blind loyalty, knowing the enormous risk Snape would be taking. However, Snape offered his loyalty to Dumbledore of his own free will the moment he learned that Voldemort planned to kill Lily. Nothing true there was an exchange of interests. There were no victims of manipulation. At that point, Snape was already a smart enough guy to not let himself be manipulated.
That’s a great way to put it because not only will he mourn for dumbledore but Albus was the last one to know the real him. Luckily Harry got his memories or he would’ve been remembered as a villain forever.
Only Severus knew what dumbledore truly meant when he said “please.”

I hate how everyone got mad at Snape, he was following orders. He also made possible for Harry to defeat Vodimort. Then ultimately sacrificing himself, my favorite character in the series.
Yes, most of us know all this, but still, in my opinion (and also in J. K. Rowlings) Snape just wasn't a nice person. I mean, think of all the things he did to Harry and Neville just because Harry's father stole his girl and because Neville could have been the other Chosen One, which would have meant that Lily would have survived. He just straight up abused them, just to make himself feel better. I know that Snape was very brave and died kind of a hero's death, but he really was not a nice person at all, which is why he is not really one of my favourite characters. I hope you can understand my thoughts ^^'
Everyday Girl he did so to toughen them up because he knew what was going to be asked of them. He made them tough because Snape knew Voldimort was coming back and it was the only way for them to fight him.

Dumbledore could have been referring to himself, Grindelwald, or Voldemort with that sentence.

You're both wrong. Dumbledore was 116 when he died.
*”Severus…please…”* - In the books, the reason he says this isn’t just to save Draco’s soul, it’s revealed he had a conversation with Snape about how the death eaters will likely torture him and kill him slowly if given the chance, he tells Snape that he’s scared and would like to die with some dignity, so when he says “Severus…please…” he’s asking Snape to please kill him quickly and get it over with…just makes this whole scene much sadder with that knowledge in mind.
Can’t he fight the death eaters? Dumbledoor was the most powerful wizard of that time right?
@@cammy399 Yeah he definitely could if he wanted to but he was planning to die that night anyways, he was sacrificing himself either way, so of course he was afraid of a slow and painful death he knew they would give him if given the chance, he says something along the lines of *”It won’t harm your soul to help an old man avoid pain and humiliation”* when talking to Snape months prior to this, so when he says “Severus…please…” in this scene that’s the context behind that in the books along with saving Draco from having to do anything that will tear his soul apart.
Under normal circumstances Dumbledore wouldn’t be afraid of anyone, but in this situation he knows death is imminent and that this needs to happen, he knows he’ll let himself be disarmed and be completely at their will…
@@cammy399 Yes he cud have but he was already dying from the curse and the longer he lived the more painful it wud get. He realised it was Harry's fight not his, the longer he stayed, the longer it wud take for voldemort to die putting a lot of muggle lives to stake. so did i :( r.i.p. michael aka dumbledore :(
I just love how well written this story is. Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him because he was already dying and he wanted to stop draco from being pushed to the other side completely. Draco killing Dumbledore would have made that happen. Even with Malfoy family's affiliation with the dark side, Dumbledore knew draco was just a kid and a student. He needed to be given a chance to remain the same despite his father's choices. Draco was a product of his family's wealth, history and culture. Dumbledore understood this. That's why in a way he spared Draco. We know Dumbledore as wise character, but this much wise? J k Rowling did an amazing job.
it was a plan to achieve an ultimate goal , a mercy to a boy who clearly couldn't handle killing someone let alone someone he secretly respected, and lastly...draco was a damn child, the adult should pave the way for the future generation. All around it was just touching to watch as much as it was tragic.
Even more, Voldemort would get the ancient wand easily if Draco killed him, since to get a wand which answers to you completely you need to disarm/kill its owner. Draco was going to get the wand and Voldemort was going to kill him since he wasn't match for him, so he would get a full power wand for himself.
He also knew that if Draco killed him, Voldemort would have to kill Draco to get the elder wand. But if Snape kills Dumbledore bc Dumbledore wants him too, it’s a suicide and not a murder, so the elder wand chain is broken and it stays allied to a dead man
I understand your point, but something important to mention is that Rowling meant for Draco to be evil
@@thescriptingshow1950 not really she doesn’t like the fact that people like Draco despite her writing him to be redeemable and understood by the audience… she also has said other things that just don’t make sense at all and contradicts her own writing, kinda making me think a lot of it was simply an accident on her part and it just happened to be good.

@@ahmadsherbeny5609 it had nothing to do with keeping Draco from going to the dark side. It had everything to do with making Snape the true master of the Elder Wand to give Harry a fighting chance to defeat Voldemort. Dumbledore knew that once Voldemort had the wand that it would not work to its full strength if he was not the rightful owner. If Severus didn't kill Dumbledore, then Draco would've been killed, since SNAPE got the elder wand and Draco would've gotten killed by Voldemort.
AndreaTejada stupid voldy didn't know that allegiance doesn't change with killing
Yeah, it does. It can change with disarming or killing. The Deathly Hallows taught us that it can change with killing.
Actually Draco was the owner once he disarmed dumbledore...
It's funny actually that scenario you commented. If Draco owned the elder wand I wonder if Voldemort would have actually even been able to kill him after this. Maybe something similar would happen as did when he tried to killl Harry when Harry was the owner (except in this instance voldy wouldn't be using the elder wand against its true owner so the spell might not actually backfire since it would still have been in ddores tomb). If that makes sense.
@@1st_b He could still kill him as long as Voldemort wasn't trying to use the Elder Wand.
@@1st_b I could be wrong (haven't read the books) but I recall reading/hearing about how Dumbledore also wanted Snape to do it for obvious reasons AND because it would 'sully' Draco. The boy clearly wasn't "bad to the bone" and was caught in between all this with his father's influence and legacy. While he was a death eater by Lucius' affiliation, Dumbledore knew he was just very lost and didn't wish him to kill another being which would solidify that status (of which Draco was internally reluctant about) or obviously traumatize him further.
We cant blame Snape for the death of Dumbledore. He only did it to protect Draco from getting killed by Voldemort and also Dumbledore said Snape should be the one to kill Dumbledore.
OR Snape and Dumbledore could have sided and fought Voldemort and his followers since he vanished. You can't tell me that Potter was able to find the Horcruxes with Hermione and Ron in a few months or so but Dumbledore and Snape couldn't do it in the past 14 years where Voldemort was gone. I mean I know that Harry himself is a Horcrux and so was this snake, but they could have destroyed the rest. Snape could have acted as a spy for Dumbledore, giving him information about what's going on amongst death eaters. But no, they just waited for everything to develop (more or less).
Plus there was a lot of plot bending to make the story go the way it did.
1.) Voldemorts rebirth could have never happened if they wouldn't have decided to go against all the rules of the TRIwizard tournament, where Harry was a FOURTH contestant. It should have never been possible anyway but plot thought otherwise.
2.) A little more "Avada Kedavra" from the good guys would have helped A LOT. They could have killed so many figures that played an important role in the comeback of Voldemort, but nooo, we're the good guys, we don't use this speel even when it means to let people live who will bring back one of the greatest threats the wizarding and muggle world has ever seen. Harry or Cedric could have killed Peter Pettigrew back on the graveyard and then they could have quickly run away with this crippled Voldemort, locking him away for all eternity and everything would be fine. But then there wouldn't have been a great finale.
Levi Ackerman the Avada Kedavra spell isn't easy to cast you will need a lot of effort and skill to cast it and also its illegal any uses of the three unforgivable curses earns 1 way ticket to azkban

RobertDarcy that doesn't matter if you picture a puppy in your head getting tortured etc you might cry as well even though it's not real
just because it's in your head doesn't make it any less real
Forever in our hearts. Rip prof. Dumbledore. Thank you for making our childhood amazing 🕊
The movie was preparing us for this. With just the movie's tone of color pallet, I knew dark times were coming.
Dumbledore, with his presence, always transmitted us a sense of security and hope. With him gone, the remaining of this movie and Deathly Hallows felt like all hope was lost.
BTW, I watched the movies before the books, so I was shocked the first time.
@Clodagh straum why not? Lol
Even if you had read the books first, you would've been shocked. There is no mention of Dumbledore's and Snape's plan in the Half-Blood Prince, although in the order of the Phoenix there was a great activity of Snape as a servant to the Order.
@@ralphmalasakit9543 because the movies ruined the books that's why. Lol
@@ananyabhagat7052 nobody cares about the book.
@@ngmmngw9027 actually most real potterheads do but ok
I feel his pain when he said Avada Kedavra . Alan Rickman such an great actor of all times
*Rest in Peace Sir Michael Gambon (1940-2023)*
the brilliance of this series , it started with colours and gets darker and darker and darker , you can litterally feel the sadness , the fear as the chapters go forward , what a brilliant storyline and the writer J.K Rowling has a cathedral of imagination and adventure
miss harry potter alot
It really gets dark at this point... so much that it's almost painful to watch the 6th film. 150 minutes of pure darkness, shadows and sorrow. A nearly uncomfortable experience but it carries the mood of the characters and their universe.
I haven't read the books, when I saw this scene after such a dark film (as well as the previous one) my thought was: damn, things were already dark and now Dumbledore died... how much darker will this get???
I wish they didn't cut Dumbledore's funeral from the movie. Kinda sad tbh
yeah but the thing that replaced it was rather fitting with the students coming out in their pajamas and finding Dumbledore's body lying in the courtyard
U have to remember this is not a marvel franchize where they have long funeral scene lol
@@nickpenaranda725 I didn't even mention Marvel like hello? It could have been a 1-minute scene
@@arturs_ when did i say that u mention it?
That would have been horribly long and full of unnecessary cast.
Just watched this iconic scene and it just felt like yesterday. Paying tribute to the two finest actors (Snape & Dumbledore). So much shown with so little words. Including the interplay of villains, anti-hero, hero, half-villain and half-hero. A phenomenol performance, indeed.
Half villain, half hero and the Half blood Prince
What's great is you know what dumbledore meant when he said Severus please
Dumbledore asked Severus to kill him by saying “please”. He thought Severus wouldn’t able to do that. Such a wonderful character. 😭
no dumbledoor was asking Severus to take care of harry
Dumbledore is dead either way. Remember the ring he wore, the ring contained a curse that was slowly killing him. So to both fool the Dark Lord and to end the curse coursing his veins Dumbledore tells Snape to end his life.
@@lexusdriver1963 thank you for telling everyone my plan
Sad that he had to die though : (
What started with tears of sadness turns to tears of rage when they completely left out Dumbledore's Funeral!!! I still haven't forgiven David Yates for this...
Good thing David Yates doesn't give a fuck.
killer92173 J.K Rowling is the one to blame
Film Fan how come?
killer92173 Because she's the one who originally wrote it
Green Filter exactly! that's why I'm mad that they didn't include it!
Raise your wands for Dame Maggie Smith, rest in peace.
this is the saddest part of all of the movies
Yeah....in the books is even more sad...dumby was the best
I cried when sirius died, not dumbledore though
@@OrigoZ yea everyone has different taste
Saddest.
Tell me about it! Me and my grandma cried our eyes out in the theater when we first saw it.
The actors did such an amazing job with their voices and facial expressions. Especially Snape, where you can see that his voice was shaking when he said: "Avada Kedavra" and the painful look on his face. Draco, too. His voice was shaking and it really shows that's he's just a kid who's scared.
1:42 R.I.P. Alan Rickman
I will always remember wheb I first read this scene in the book.
Because I screamed and threw said book out of my window.
woooouuuu I hope you got that book back after.
Damien Loxely he was joking
Or was he? Some say the book is still falling to this day.
Who hit the ground first Dumbledore or The book?
SAME IM NOT KIDDING
I just realized; when Dumbeldore said, "Severus, please..." he meant that he wanted Severus to kill him, he was asking for it. And it wasn't because Dumbeldore was begging Severus NOT to kill him, he was begging for him to KILL him.
No shit
Wow, we have a sherlock holmes here, bring him an oscar
Yes
Wow i didnt know that LOL
Better late than never hahah
1:10 Alan Rickman's performance is amazing. It's just a silent "shhh," but his facial expression says everything. It's this very haunting look of caring but also complete fear. He knows this is the moment. This is the moment he has to kill Dumbledore, this is the moment he has to completely go undercover and act as if he is completely loyal to Voldemort. He knows what hes about to do is going to cause Harry to hate him. I love that they have this moment in the movie. I love that they didn't go the way the book was where Harry was stunned. Here Harry completely puts his trust in Snape. Snape knows this and even though he "has come to care for the boy," he now has to betray him. It's so good and has so many layers.
Snape’s complicated backstory makes him more interesting 🤔
I can hear the pain in Snapes voice when he kills Dumbledore
I CRIED SO MUCH MORE while reading the book about his death then watching the movie.
Wow way to take a shit on everyone who doesn't read books 😒
not his fault it is better in the books. The scene itself is much better. They also left out dumbledores funeral.
+Kratos2591 dumbledores funeral was when Harry decided he was going to track down the Horcruxes & Ron & Hermione would go with him
In movie harry could have stoped and disobey and could saved Dumbledore, but in book he was freezed by Dumbledore when he was in invisibility cloak
RIP Maggie
This was a very intense scene. Malfoy and Snape being the victims. None of them wanted this. But, this was essential for the greater good.
I agree
These two arguably are the most powerful wizards they could have easily token down all the death eaters but it was for a greater cause :( 🥺
1:42 RIP Michael Gambon. 😢😢😢😢
Omigod Rickman’s acting! You can hear the hurt in his voice when he says Avada Kedavra. Poor Snape
1:28 Snapes face tells it all.
What's brilliant about the staging of the scene is that it can be read several different ways: Is he looking down because he's riddled (no pun intended) with guilt at what he's about to do, or is it because he's making a final check on Harry? And if he is, is he doing it because he wants to make sure that Harry stayed put, or is he doing it because he's thinking about Harry, James, Dumbledore, and Lily? Weighing everything HAS happened, and is GOING to happen? Brilliant.

Severus Snape is the most well-written character ever.
A lot of people make that argument in a hyperbolic way (not saying you, just a lot of people in general). But no, it actually really is a legitimate claim. He's up there with the all-time greats.

I’m glad Snape helped Dumbledore out and carried out the task set upon him and saved Draco’s life by doing it for him 💚
“DON’T-” screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the burning house behind them, “CALL ME COWARD!”
Now we know why he was in such state poor guy
Came here after I just found out the passing of Sir Michael Gambon (Dumbledore). Rest In Peace, Legend. Tonight, I’m pointing my wand replica skyward. Thank you for everything, Legend. May you rest peacefully forever along with everyone who was a member in the cast of this amazing franchise. You all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

The fact that harry lowered his wand after snape told him too just goes to show that he had trust in snape
I still hate that they didn't put the battle in the movie. It was important and they left it out, just like Dumbledore's funeral.
Aleksander Järvinen the battle was left because they wanted to save all the action for The Battle of Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows Part 2. They didn't put Dumbledore's funeral in because they thought the scene was too sad and depressing
Too sad and depressing?! WTF is that bullshit
There was already enough drama as it was.
+SuperJackster01
That's such a stupid argument. It's like cutting the Battle of Helm's Deep from The Two Towers, or the Battle of Geonosis from Attack of the Clones. Movies should stand out on their own, and not need another to provide their climax.
Thanks for everything Sir Michael Gambon.
We will never forget you.
Rest in Peace.

This 2023 the actor who played Albus Dumbledore passed away, so now this scene is more real than what we saw. Both the character and his actor died, without forgetting that others such as Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid) and Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) also died before him, and many others.
Really good acting there for both Draco and Dumbledore.
