CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) battles Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) for his life and sees the spirits of his parents.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Directed by Mike Newell, the fourth installment to the Harry Potter series finds Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) wondering why his legendary scar -- the famous result of a death curse gone wrong -- is aching in pain, and perhaps even causing mysterious visions. Before he can think too much about it, however, Harry boards the train to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he will attend his fourth year of magical education. Shortly after his reunion with his best friends, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), Harry is introduced to yet another Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher: the grizzled Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson), a former dark wizard catcher who agreed to take on the infamous "DADA" professorship as a personal favor to Headmaster Dumbledore (Michael Gambon). Of course, Harry's wishes for an uneventful school year are almost immediately shattered when he is unexpectedly chosen, along with fellow student Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson), as Hogwarts' representative in the Tri-Wizard Tournament, which awards whoever completes three magical tasks the most skillfully with a thousand-galleon purse and the admiration of the international wizard community. As difficult as it is to deal with his schoolwork, friendships, and the tournament at the same time (not to mention his feelings toward the ever unfathomable Professor Snape (Alan Rickman), Harry doesn't realize that the most feared wizard in the world, Lord Voldemort, is anticipating the tournament, as well.

0:07 This is such a powerful scene that was perfectly adapted from book to movie.
“He knew one thing only, and it was beyond fear or reason: He was not going to die crouching here like child playing hide-and-seek, he was not going to die kneeling at Voldemort”s feet. He was going to die upright like his father, and he was going to die trying to defend himself, even if no defense was possible.” Daniel acted that paragraph perfectly, you can see those thoughts going through his head before he faces Voldemort.

The most powerful cause for bravery: "I'm dead anyway. Nothing to be afraid of, end is the same."
It's a shame that the filmmakers cut out Voldemort's line from the book where he says that Harry's mum isn't there to save him this time when she actually does just that in this scene.
They added it in the video game.
Would have been cool if that was the line Voldemort used to provoke harry to come out of cover to fight
My favourite line from Voldemort in that scene is: "You won't suffer... I don't know actually, I never died" ot something like that.
Didn't he say it in the movie? It was love... by dear Lilly Potter?
He said it in the movie right before the scene started.
Did anyone notice that Harry was losing until he gripped his wand with both hands? Then it was getting difficult for Voldemort, which was why Lucius tried to step in.

Yup and his arm was in pain from when wormtail took Harry's blood to give voldemort his new body
Harry was just 14yrs old inexperienced kid and he didn't even know the concept of their wands, spells fully then. Yet he was powerful. It was shown as in books that even though it was getting difficult for Harry to grasp the wand. He continued grasping it tightly. I just wish in this scene they had shown the scene of books where Harry throws off Voldemort's Imperio curse.

No one can disagree that Harry suffered the pure terror of Voldemort's reign in this scene,a person without a strong spirit would easily panic/despair and become an easy victim. And the fact that they are in a cemetery helps more in this feeling, I consider this the real battle of Harry against Voldemort. Just imagine yourself without your friends around... no Dumbledore or your parentes to protect you... no one to help... Just the creepy cemetery with the Dark Lord, his followers and your lifeless friend's body on the ground... A pure terror experience.

What’s crazy is that Harry is literally only 14 years old at this point in the story. 14 years old! My youngest brother is now 14 years old! It blows me away with how much I realize the character, Harry alone has endured during his teen years at Hogwarts. Anyone else in his shoes would have lost their mind, not mentally stable, but Harry didn’t let it affect him because of the people in his life kept him going. That is good writing to me. In this scene, Harry is 14, had just witnessed his fellow student and friend get murdered mercilessly before he even had a chance to react, watched the dark lord, the man who killed his parents and countless others come back to life, surrounded by his supporters, cold blooded murderers, in a graveyard
Nobody was there to save him, and on top of that had a broken leg from the perilous maze he had just gotten through

Has anyone ever noticed that this is Voldemort's greatest flaw and the one that led to his downfall? He is super arrogant. I am sure that if any other person killed Harry, he would have died completely just like the horcrux inside him.
Given that killing curses just bounced off of Nagini I think either Harry was temporarily immortal and no one realised, or if he died his corpse would not decompose, at least not fully. The horcrux would have preserved him in some way. That doesn't happen if Voldemort harms him since a horcrux doesn't try to protect itself from its master.
@@wafflingmean4477 I disagree to be honest. There is actually a theory that Nagini was going to be immortal whether Voldemort was going to make her a horcrux or not. The theory suggests that when a maledictus turns into her animal form permanently, in that animal form she will never die and can never be killed. And I believe a horcrux would do everything to protect itself from anyone actually-- including its own master--, which is why I believe Harry escaped death so many times. The reason was that while the piece of Voldemort's soul inside him was Voldemort's, it was still a part of Harry. Therefore, when he did not intend to die, that piece of Voldemort's soul did not either, but when he did intend to die (in Deathly Hallows), the piece of Voldemort's soul gave way to death as well. Let us not forget that Harry was not meant to be a horcrux; he was accidental. Voldemort might have been highly stubborn and arrogant, but he was not stupid; he knew that if he wanted to be immortal, he should not conceal a piece of his soul in something mortal. Harry was always mortal throughout the entire series. The reason he was able to come back to life after Voldemort killed him in Deathly Hallows was once more due to Voldemort's own arrogance: Just a little before the above scene, Voldemort uses Harry's blood, which included Lily's sacrificial protection inside it, to resurrect himself, that then tethered Harry back to life when Voldemort tried to kill him. I stand to believe that if any other person had killed him, he would have been permanently killed and the horcrux inside him destroyed.
That being said, I can see where you're coming from. This is just my personal opinion/interpretation.
@@noorykorky5056 It's an interesting theory but what makes me doubt it is that Dumbledore insisted Voldemort had to kill Harry personally. If all that was necessary was for Harry to want to die, it would have been easier to convince Harry to commit suicide rather than risk him dying by other means, such as a random deatheater or defending himself from Voldemort.
@@wafflingmean4477 Well, I believe he especially wanted Harry to die at the hands of Voldemort because he ultimately wanted Harry to survive and suspected that the fact that Voldemort used Harry's blood to resurrect himself would tether Harry back to life but destroy the horcrux inside him at the same time, if and only if Voldemort killed Harry. The reason Dumbledore wanted Harry to survive was because Sybill Trelawney had particularly predicted that, "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord [will be] born as the seventh month dies and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal..." This suggests that Harry (and Harry alone) was ultimately the one who could destroy Voldemort and Dumbledore definitely wanted him to be alive in order to make sure that Voldemort was defeated. There is the argument that Neville would have still beheaded Nagini, and then anyone else could have killed Voldemort, but because of the prophecy and because Voldemort had chosen Harry, Dumbledore may have thought that absolutely no one else could defeat Voldemort...
I'm not so sure, though. Again, that is just how I interpreted the whole thing...
And that flaw is one of the few times plot armor is done right.
Voldemort built a reputation for being one of the most powerful wizards of all time and yet he lost to a baby(in the public's eyes). Voldemort wanted to prove it was only a fluke and wanted to be the only one to kill harry.
Seeing James and Lily talking to Harry in this scene makes me really want to see what if they didn't die and raised him.
⏲ 1:43 ~ Every time I see this scene, Lily Potter's loving/poignant words instantly make me emotional. 😢
👪 "Let go ... Sweetheart, you're ready ... Let go! Let GO!" ✊🏼...🖐🏼
This is the moment when Harry, an unqualified fourteen year old wizard, dueled Lord Voldemort and won. This single duel completely shifted everything, because Voldemort, for all his power and skill, lost. Suddenly, he became just a little frightened. He sought another wand not to avoid Priori Incantantem, but because he knew that if he and Harry dueled in that manner again, Harry would beat him. The entire quest for the Elder Wand and Voldemort's doom began right here.
its Harry's greatest scene, his greatest triumph to walk right up to that group of evil, with "Tom" at its head, and simply refuse to die.
He didn’t win here. He literally ran away when he was presented the opportunity. He knew he couldn’t defeat Voldemort there, and he knew he would most likely die. Then the ghosts of Cedric, James and Lily showed up and gave him the chance to escape.
@@L1z43vrit's more accurate to say that Harry and Voldemort's wands refused to kill each other. The books explain this better. Their shared cores refuse to harm each other, hence why the spells combined and started forming that dome. It's like trying to force the same ends of two magnets together - they repel.
There's the addition of ghostly Phoenix song issuing from the dome as they duelled in the book, from their cores.
And Harry's wand proved to be way more powerful than Lucius's wand when it acted of its own accord in Deathly Hallows and shattered it, so Voldemort tracked down the most powerful wand in existence so that he may finally be able to overpower Harry's wand

At the end Dumbledore tells Harry there is no spell that could summon the dead referring to Harry telling him his parents helped him. That’s how strong Harry’s connection was to his mom. Love, something Voldemort knew nothing about. Emotions are so instrumental in being a great wizard and love is a very powerful emotion.
Something Dumbledore knows nothing about it by the looks of it.😅
Can we talk about the emotion on Harry’s face at seeing his parents and wanting more than anything to just talk to them, to just be with them but knowing that the moment he breaks the connection they vanish. Dan sold that moment for me. Say what you will about how bad goblet of fire is as an adaptation it has some pretty great moments.
And some REALLY bad ones I mean The director didn’t want to read more then 16 pages of goblet of fire!
Harry displayed such courage despite being grievously in both mind and body. It was the appearance of the Phoenix (singing its haunting melody) that tipped the scales to harry’s favor. The phoenix reminded harry of Dumbldore and gave harry clarity and strength. On the other hand, the Phoenix terrified Voldrmort and weakened him. Thats why Voldrmort’s wand ended up being reverse-spelled, not harry’s...
In the books Dumbledore explains at that point Harry accepted death, so he didn't fear it when he got up to face Voldemort. Something Voldemort could never do, he feared death more than anything. Harry's courage overcame Voldemort.

@@oolooo I personally don't see your point unless you are talking about just the movies in which case I can agree with you, afterall a lot of what was good in Hp was written in the books but was cut in the movie adaptations
No
One of the most iconic scenes from the franchise
I think this was the most vulnerable place and time where Harry had been in. No one physically to protect him, to assist him, to guide him, to save him.
And had absolutely no idea what to do afterwards even if he'd win the duel.
its why its the characters most triumphant heroic scene in the entire series, and no one was around to witness it but Harry's enemies.. and his own parents.
My favorite scene is when Harry’s parent come out
When Harry’s father starts to talk the soundtrack starts to shine with the peak during Cedric’s speech.
I like how Voldemort gives Harry a year at school before he tries to kill him again
That cus Dumbledore was still there
0:50 literally anime
I love how he immediately obeys what his father says but also doesn’t break concentration on voldemort
The first time I seen this scene it made me cry it is my favorite scene from the whole series.
Have you read the books?
The amount of therapy someone would need after this
I just noticed something. Voldy says "I want to see the lights leave your eyes", but when Harry went to the forest to die he closes his eyes. HE REMEMBERED!
The best scene in all Harry Potter movies.
My favorite scene is the clip following this one. People trash the Goblet of Fire movie for not being very good but always forget the last fifteen minutes
1:25 - 1:51 is my aboslute favorite score moment from all 8 films. goblet of fire has the best score out of them all. it's the one that brings me the most nostalgia (ironically it's one of my lesser favorite movies). but patrick doyle is one of my all time favorite composers
I never got tired of watching this scene. It gives me chills each time. Unpopular, I know, but Mike Newell and Patrick Doyle did something oustanding in my opinion and I wish they remained after Chris Columbus and John Williams (who were also fantastic) left the franchise. This movie is on my TOP 4.
Damn expleiarmus (sry if I spelled it wrong) is probably the most powerful spell, it can disarm people, send them flying across the room, and hold back a killing curse, wow😬
It is explained later by Dumbledore that Harry's wand and Tom's wand have the same core -> They can hurt eachother BUT NOT fatally harm ( which is death )
Tom casted Avada Kevadra , which cause that fatal harm ( death ) , so Harry's wand rebounce it ( any cast from Harry will do ) and create a special event call Priori Incantatem .
@ I know that but in the last 2 movies and books harry uses dracos wand due to the fact that his broke once he encounterd nagini in godrics hollow, so no they dont have the same core the whole entire time.
Well 2 wands , if cast in the same time and aim at eachother then it will fight eachother , whoever strongers or more skills wins , but on some occasion that the wand might act itself .
@ I know about that but my statement on the disatming charm was that they made the spell seem more powerful than any other spell.
It's just a disarm spell , it is already power since if you disarm someone then they cannot cast it powerfully ( unless you are a powerful wizard ) .
Poor cedric,he still looks good in an angel form and FINALLY harry gets to see his own parents DEAD
wonder why people work for a noseless guy
Waikohu
Its because he doesn't senior at night in bed
I just realized he’s fourteen holding his own against one of the most powerful wizards
movies and books are two different stories, while movies makes the stories come to life, all the true wonders, explanations, emotions and all powerful elements that make Harry Potter a truely wonderful story are all in the books.
0:01- Don't you turn your back on me Harry Potter! I want you to look at me when I kill you! I want to see the light leave your eyes!
I can’t be the only one I finds that line incredibly terrifying and also really telling about who Voldemort is a person as the part towards the end when “I want to see the light leave your eyes!!” really points out how cold and murderous he is as most people wouldn’t be willing to look someone in the eyes as they perish, old Voldy is just that much of a terrifying psychopath
