Today I’m doing a different type of reaction.
I’ll be reacting to a collection of different performances by artists as they tackle some CRAZY high notes.
Your vocal type really is the determining factor of whether or not a particular note is high for your range.
My singing course walks you through how to be able to develop and expand your vocal range and safely hit these high notes.
I’m gonna join along for some of these high note performances and see if I can hang with them.

Shannon B Of course. Two different vocal registers. Ken can’t hit the notes the same way Ariana hits them. He’s a baritone. He has to mix to go up there. But a clean note is a clean note. Dude can sing.

I think Mariah, in her prime, could out sing anyone. She had/has a large range. Beautiful singer.

There are too many singers out there straddling a wide range of abilities to say she could outsing ANYONE. But she was and is a powerhouse for sure.
Her range is still wide, she's just lost some control over it.
Minnie Rippleton got a spin for her riffs, Mariah Carey made it ruff.

Mariah has had nodules for a great portion of her life, I wish she didn’t drink so much because I’m sure it’s making her voice worsen. Still an amazing vocalist in her prime
Janik B it’s seems like she does less then she did in 2015-2016 when Stella was her manager her voice doesn’t sound as dry and her tone has brightened up significantly
She doesn't drink as much anymore shes gotten better.

My son is a pro dancer and he had a chance to work with Celine prior to her latest tour - which ultimately was partially curtailed by COVID. He said he would do some dance combinations with her and she was so happy and excited, she stopped and started singing right there in the studio, one on one with him. He said her voice was re-dic-u-lously spectacular!
If Ken qualified to sing those high notes at this age i can't imagine what Ken able to achieve in his prime age. Truly Rock Star 🤘🤘🤘

Maria was definitely the hardest to duplicate out of those. But if you REALLY want to be blown away, check out Daniel Heiman (Lost Horizon, Heed, etc). Dude is legit 6 octaves with power!! One of the most impressive metal singers ever, IMO. There's a vid on here that showcases his range. It's nuts...

@@kentamplin what I mean is that although she had an amazing technique she didn't rest and that technique kind off faded. If you watch her range 2017 till now she has still the same notes as before BUT a rasp tired sound in the whole range sometimes. That's nodules. I'm a huge fan and I pay attention to her. It's not any medication or drugs. It's sleep deprivation and alcohol. GREAT video again👌💖

Oversinging, especially the spectrum of her range is quite harsh on vocal cords I mean like switching to second octave to seventh seems like a lot of stress on vocal cords when you overdo it, singing those breathy whistles dries out the vocal cords, the alcohol add to it, lack of sleep, and nodules make it even worst!

Lately she’s sounding much much better, probably because she has been resting enough, but definitely she was never in drugs only she was drinking too much alcohol. Now she looks healthier and beautiful

You're so fun to watch Ken 😊 I love your little anecdotes and references. Last night just before my show I discovered throat singing, it's such a weird larynx placement. I though it would be much lower and more of a fry but it's actually quite frontal. Your student Anthony Vincent does this really well and a guy in our cast has a great throat singing vocal tone. Last night I did it by accident while commenting on something the cast was talking about and then I had it but lost it. Was very exciting but didn't want to spend my voice before the show. Do you have any tips on Mongolian throat singing? it's just such a unique sound. Can you do it?

If you think about it Mariah was born with nodules, she had it her entire life. Most people realise it’s vocal suicide to even speak when dealing with nodules. Imagine the impact of having them since birth and being in great demand as a legendary singer.

Howie D of the Backstreet Boys has an awesome whistle register. Until I saw the music video I thought they had snuck a female into the recording, but it is Howie...and he can still do it. They do that song on their current tour and he hits it perfectly. The song I am talking about is All I Have to Give

Question for you Ken:
When I was younger, I was a second soprano. But as I've gotten older, my vocals have deepened into more of the alto range, even a high tenor.
Can a soprano vocalist get that higher range back once they're older, or is that deeper tone for good?
I feel with proper training with a good vocal coach anything is possible. U can have a very low singing voice even being old and with traing can sing higher. Thats just my opinion from experience my voice changed through puberty then I sounded low and couldn't sing high at all now i have a much larger range.

Arianna is such an amazing vocalist. She may use tracks for back up vocals but she always delivers the goods (to use a Priest power metal metaphor). You’ve got to hear her do Wicked. Her theatrical are arguably even better than her pop vocals!
