In nature, seeds do not germinate as well in light as in the dark. This is due to light decomposing the carbonic acid gas, expelling the oxygen, and fixing the carbon; as a result hardening all the parts of the seed, and preventing vegetation. However, once the seed sprouts, light is required, so the sprouts can undergo photosynthesis.

"Merry and Happy Sprouting" was the name of my Gift Box.. I have been sprouting for many years. It's very easy and nice to see your seeds opening and growing. The most important about sprouting is to water enough, but not too much. Also, to keep your sprouts out of direct sunlight. It is better to keep them in a fresh area. I add them to my salads, sandwiches, smoothies, soups, and cooked grains as a decoration. It is a very smart way to take the maximum nutrition from greens and legumes without eating too much salads. Hey TJ! As far as germination, the rate will be the same, however don't forget that the seeds are soaking in the water, and tap water in some states contains pollutants. Thus, we generally recommend using filtered water. Hope this helps :)
thank you for a great video, I'm a little confused b/c I watched several videos that recommend 2 full days in the dark and days 3-5 in a well lighted room. I did this with the previous sprouts and it worked great. I have noticed that this brand doesn't sprout as much with the same days in the dark, I will try 3 full days. I also did not soak that long at all. Guess we'll try.
Hi Marly, thanks for sharing. A couple of factors can effect the sprouting process. The temperature, the humidity, as well as air circulation in the area where the jars with seeds are placed. Many methods call for a short soaking time (4-6 hrs), however I found an overnight soak to produce a better germination rate. Yes, you do keep the seeds in the dark (inside a kitchen cabinet in our case) for 3 full days. Hope this helps.
@@Foodtolive thank you so much for the feedback..🙏🏼 I did the overnight soak this time and 3 days in the dark..I’m on the 5th day now and waiting to see the results. So far I don’t see that much of a difference. I used the same exact spot for the dark pantry phase with the first seeds I had mentioned before and they sprouted quicker and more full.. They are non-gmo but not organic..😞 which is why I ordered these.. I’ll wait and see.. thank you
@@Foodtolive thank you, they are not, think it was a bad batch. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m following all of the recommendations and always use filtered water. May try another one.
I’m using a different sprout seed than you are and only about half of my jar has sprouts by the end of 6 days. I rinse and drain well and follow all your instructions. Thinking I’m going to have to switch brands of seeds. Thanks
Thank you for your question. You can use this method for wheatgrass, however wheatgrass grows better in an open sprouter, as the grass has much more room to grow straighter and taller. Hope this helps :)
I've been looking into this, and will start sprouting soon. However, I'm concerned about water wastage. Is there a safe way to store and reuse the rinsing water? Thanks in advance, congrats for the great video.
Hello. Thank you for your comment. Of course, you can store rinse water in pitchers or large bottles and use it for indoor and outdoor plants. Hope this helps.
Hello Leah, and thank you! Yes, you can use bottled water if you don't have a filter, however do save the rinse water and use for your garden or indoor plans so it isn't wasted away :)
Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video! Regarding your question, while ozonated water can be used for sprouting, it's essential to be cautious as ozone can affect the sprouting process and may not be suitable for all seeds. Using filtered water ensures a consistent and safe environment for sprouting without introducing additional variables. However, if you choose to use ozonated water, it's advisable to research its effects on the specific seeds you're sprouting and proceed with caution. Hope this helps!
What are good sprouting jars with lids that don't rust? I have looked up many different ones but they all seem to have at least some reviews with regard to rust (and or mold)... Any suggestions ? 🤔
Hello. These are the exact lids that I am using in this video, I've had them for 3 years and they look brand new, no rust. I never put them in the dishwasher, and I keep them inside a cabinet that I use all the time, so there is constant air circulation happening. I hope this helps. Here is the link www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NM9TNXP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hi! Welcome to sprouting! 🌱 Using bottled alkaline water like Essentia or Trader Joe’s is generally fine for soaking your sprouts. Just make sure the water is clean and free from any additives.
Yes, absolutely. In fact, in this video we sprout broccoli seeds separately and a seed mix (broccoli, alfalfa, and clover). However, please pay attention to your proportions. You are adding 1 tablespoon of seeds in total, so use half of tbsp of broccoli and half alfalfa. If you put more than directed, the seeds can rot, due to lack of space. Hope this helps :)
The jar lids are made of two parts, the frame and the strain, so once you dip it into the water, it will disconnect and will make the whole process even more frustrating lol nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to try :)

Yes, sprouting times can vary depending on the seed type and growing conditions. It’s normal for some seeds to take longer to grow, so give them a few more days and ensure they have enough moisture and airflow.
Thanks for the video. Why are they kept in dark space?
In nature, seeds do not germinate as well in light as in the dark. This is due to light decomposing the carbonic acid gas, expelling the oxygen, and fixing the carbon; as a result hardening all the parts of the seed, and preventing vegetation. However, once the seed sprouts, light is required, so the sprouts can undergo photosynthesis.

You're so welcome! Absolutely you can and you should!!! :)
Thank you seems easy I been wanting to try this
It's definitely and fun and simple process :)

I was convinced to sprout as soon as I saw the good boy eating the sprouts.
Our method of motivation worked, yess!!! hehe
thank you VERY much for this easy direction
You're very welcome, let us know how your sprouts turn out :)
Well done! What happens if I use tap water instead of filtered water?
Hey TJ! As far as germination, the rate will be the same, however don't forget that the seeds are soaking in the water, and tap water in some states contains pollutants. Thus, we generally recommend using filtered water. Hope this helps :)
A great sandwich = Wheat bread, cream cheese, shrimp and sprouts. Mmmmm!❤
Yum 😋
Good job!!!👏👏👏 I love your dog😍
Thank you so much, he's definitely the star of this video :)
I love sprouts in Tuna Sandwiches!
Agreed!!!! Sprouts' peppery notes make it that much more fresher :)
thank you for a great video, I'm a little confused b/c I watched several videos that recommend 2 full days in the dark and days 3-5 in a well lighted room.
@@Foodtolive thank you so much for the feedback..🙏🏼
I did the overnight soak this time and 3 days in the dark..I’m on the 5th day now and waiting to see the results. So far I don’t see that much of a difference. I used the same exact spot for the dark pantry phase with the first seeds I had mentioned before and they sprouted quicker and more full..
They are non-gmo but not organic..😞 which is why I ordered these.. I’ll wait and see.. thank you
@@marly1869 Both organic and conventional seeds should sprout great. Make sure the seeds are not expired.
Thanks
So sorry to hear that. Perhaps the seeds are expired?
Thanks for this video!
You're very welcome :)
My cat loves broccoli sprout too. Gladly dont need soil, can't wait to start this and can i use this method for wheatgrass ?
Thank you for your question. You can use this method for wheatgrass, however wheatgrass grows better in an open sprouter, as the grass has much more room to grow straighter and taller. Hope this helps :)
I've been looking into this, and will start sprouting soon. However, I'm concerned about water wastage. Is there a safe way to store and reuse the rinsing water? Thanks in advance, congrats for the great video.
Hello. Thank you for your comment. Of course, you can store rinse water in pitchers or large bottles and use it for indoor and outdoor plants. Hope this helps.
@@Foodtolive thank you, it does indeed help. Cheers.
Wonderful video. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Great job thank you very much 👍
Thank you for watching :)
Great Video!, I have well water.. So, is it okay to use bottled water for rinsing? Thank you
Hello Leah, and thank you! Yes, you can use bottled water if you don't have a filter, however do save the rinse water and use for your garden or indoor plans so it isn't wasted away :)
@@Foodtolive Thank you so much! I definitely won't let the rinse water go to waste! I have some indoor plants that will get it! :)
@@theleah007 Perfect! Let us know how your sprouting journey goes :)
@@Foodtolive I certainly will! The kit I ordered should be here soon! :)
Thank You, Well explained
You're very welcome. Glad it was helpful! :)
Hi ...enjoyed the video ...Question => can i use ozoned water instead of filter ? is there any difference ? Thanks
@@Foodtolive i will make some research or get a filter.
Thank you very much for so much details. 🙏
When do you add the dirt?
You don't, unless you want to grow microgreens as opposed to sprouts
What are good sprouting jars with lids that don't rust?
I have looked up many different ones but they all seem to have at least some reviews with regard to rust (and or mold)...
Any suggestions ? 🤔
Hello. These are the exact lids that I am using in this video, I've had them for 3 years and they look brand new, no rust. I never put them in the dishwasher, and I keep them inside a cabinet that I use all the time, so there is constant air circulation happening. I hope this helps. @@Foodtolive , Thanks for your reply. 🌸
@@Butterfly-1028 Of course :)
@@Foodtolive , Would you be so kind to give a link to the jars that fit these lids, because when trying to search for jars on Amazon, I see there are different ones, sometimes too small, sometimes they don't fit the lids well, etc....
A link would be great. Thanks in advance...🌷
@@Butterfly-1028 I purchased my mason jars at Marshalls years ago, however I found them on amazon (I believe they are the same, 32 oz jars), I think the lids should fit these. You're so welcome, glad we could be of help :)
Today is my 1st time sprouting. Is it okay to use bottled alkaline water to soak my sprouts? Like Essentia or Trader Joe's has an alkaline water too.
Hi! Welcome to sprouting! 🌱 Using bottled alkaline water like Essentia or Trader Joe’s is generally fine for soaking your sprouts. Just make sure the water is clean and free from any additives.
best video ever!
Thank you for your wonderful feedback!!! :)
Great video!
Thank you very much for watching :)
Is it okay to mix the alfalfa and the in the broccoli seed? I only have one jar and I'm making these for my birds
Might be easier to use the jar lids to skim the seeds off the top of the water? Great vid btw!
The jar lids are made of two parts, the frame and the strain, so once you dip it into the water, it will disconnect and will make the whole process even more frustrating lol nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to try :)
Yes just the flat screen maybe
Great video. Thanks. But did you know that the water filter you are using does not remove fluoride.
Good to know!!! Thank you for your comment.

- Organic Cacao Nibs
- Organic Canadian Hemp Seeds
- Organic Hazelnuts
AND a little recipe note (to make with the item) to show extra love❣️👉👉👉
Recipe on the Card: 'Chocolate Covered Healthy Food Lovers Pretzel'
You need ALL what's in the box, cane sugar (or organic coconut sugar from Food To Live!) and some pretzels of your choice! (We like mini GF or spelt pretzel here!)
1. Pre-heat oven to 325F, and place a baking pan lined with parchment paper in the freezer or refrigerator.
2. Roast hazelnuts for about 7-10 mins, take out, crush and cool them down on the kitchen counter.
2. Place a heat proof bowl over the simmering water. In the bowl, put 1 cup cacao butter, 1/2 cup cacao powder, 1/4 cup sugar, and mix to combine as the butter started to melt
3. Dip each pretzel in the melted chocolate bath, shake off excess chocolate, and place on the chilled & lined baking pan.
4. Top with cacao nibs, hemp seeds and crushed hazelnut while the chocolate coating is still soft, press the toppings gently.
5. Place the pretzels on the baking pan in the refrigerator till the chocolate sets. (Store well at room temperature as cacao butter is pretty stable!)
*customize by choosing different toppings of your liking, or make a white chocolate version (you can also use food coloring for white chocolate) by replacing 1/2 cup cashew or macadamia butter for the cacao powder :)
Ayaka, what a wonderful recipe! As always, delish! Thank you for sharing! :)
@@Foodtolive Thank you! I always love your offerings and happy to share easy everyday recipe with your items 🥰

Nice performance. Look up Ken Wheeler’s using magnetic field on seeds prior.
How long are the seeds good, if kept in the fridge?
In the fridge maximum 8 days, however if they're moist even less than that. In the freezer, a couple of months!
cool stuff

I’m at day four and my seeds have sprouted but they haven’t grown as much as yours. Can it take more than just four days to see some proper growth?
Yes, sprouting times can vary depending on the seed type and growing conditions. It’s normal for some seeds to take longer to grow, so give them a few more days and ensure they have enough moisture and airflow.
