    Hi Eva. I thought I had failed on my first two batches of Broccoli sprouts, when I noticed the small white hair like roots forming, which I thought was mold. Having followed several videos on sprouting you are the only person who has explained what this is. Thank you very much.

    • @splashofgoodness
      @splashofgoodness  Рік тому +56

      I'm so glad you found my video. So many people think it's mold, but they are actually thirsty little seeds asking for water. This is why it's important to rinse them twice a day. Also, broccoli tends to smell because it's broccoli, lol, so many people throw it out. But if you rinse broccoli twice a day and some people rinse 3 times a day, then it's all good..

    ❤ Great video! I am a psychologist and have recently been doing a bit of research on the benefits of sprouts and mircogreens. Organic broccoli sprouts, in particular, are full of sulphoraphane which is great for the gut microbiome which is responsible for 90-95% production of overall total neurotransmitter production in the body. Sprouts and microgreens are also so densely packed with micronutrients x20 all the way up to 40x more nutrient dense per gram than their fully grown, broccoli floret head (adult) counterparts, that support the beneficial bacteria in the gut which are then responsible for strengthening your immune system, eliminating free radicals & oxidative stress and have highly anti- cancerous properties. Sprouts and microgreens are the no.1 most densely packed natural source of many essential vitamins, minerals and proteins (/natural amino acids are always better than taking synthetic pills). Eating freshly sprouted microgreens daily is the best way for maintaining your general health. Many urban families lack micronutrients in their diets,due to modern day agricultural practices which cause soil depletion and eating G.M.O ( non- organic), pesticide laden, commonly consumed supermarket fruits and vegetables lack all these essential vitamins and minerals. The links in the description below and your explanation was absolutely great, so thankyou very much, I cant wait to start sprouting and putting all the theory into practice.This was a very helpful video, thanks again! 💯👍🙏💎

      I also heard that we have to watch out with alfalfa since this is the only (or one of the few) seeds where sprouting enhances the lectins in the seeds. While normally (all other seeds) lectins will get less or disappear in the sprouting process. Lectins are poisonous to us, therefor it’s always better to sprout then to eat the seeds. But with alfalfa apparently it’s a different story. Just search in UA-cam or google for alfalfa and lectins.

    6:13 The seed coats do not need to be rinsed out at the end as shown. You are only using a grid that is too small when growing sprouts. Larger meshes cause the seed pods to be removed during rinsing. To begin with, simply insert a piece of nylon stocking so that the ungerminated seeds cannot get through. as soon as the sprouts have grown a little, the nylon stocking is no longer necessary.

      I decided to not be too precious about sanitising and just place bottles in a large container and add boiling water, and let it sit for a while. Been doing sauerkraut successfully that way since early last year without problems. It gets really daunting when one tries to follow all the technicalities.

      Aww, thank you very much! ❤️ there are a couple of things that can be wrong with seeds when they don't sprout. 1 they can be old even from the store and 2 sometimes we over soak them especially broccoli seeds. This company, Mumm's seeds, suggests only 2 to 4 hours, but other companies might suggest different timing. Check the seeds you are using on their website for instructions. It's best to by from the source so you know you are getting fresh seeds.
