I am amazed at the level of creativity in these mods on this little $200 boat, I have one coming and can't wait to see what I come up with , Great Job dezertgrunt
+A.S.A Thanks, glad you like it. I plan on making more vids showing what I keep in the compartments and how I have everything hooked up so it gives Mariner goers out there some ideas.
I have decided to get a Mariner this spring and electric trolling motor. Now I need some tools because now that i see what can be done, i gotta try...lol great set up, i love it.
Another great video from you. I love the solar panel setup. Very smart! Your two 12v batteries, I hope you installed a 60amp breaker fuse. If not, there cheap and are good to prevent an electronic mishap that will fry your trolling motor if it should happen. Otherwise, if your wife won't go in the boat, bring your dogs. They would love it!
Same for me here in Michigan, if this light winter pattern continues, I should be back fishing Mid March. Saving up for my Mariner 4 or Excursion 5 with trolling motor now!😃🎣 #tightlines
5IV 3REE O FORZA Thanks, it was hell putting together in hot clear sky weather (90 degrees), humid with gnats, so I will definitely be getting a trailer so I can just drive it in.
+C.E. Ramos not sure man, for u and having plywood floors u would have to be careful with the seams of the floor, for the plywood to be up against the seams may be too much. I was sceptic about having two batteries and me all together in the back end, not to mention the trolling motor. hope the mariner seams are glued enuf.
+C.E. Ramos how bout when you do the plywood, keep it one board unlike mine, I have two halfs, also the ply from my experience is better 3/4. I only have 1/2. try to do the pipe insulators like in others vids. those I don't have, they wouldn't fit as my board were too big. if you have that. I think you will be fine. the boat for me was pretty stable, even with my wife on it and both could stand. just don't make it too high profile which im sure you already know.
great boat and video hoping i get mines for Christmas mariner 4 or fish hunter 360 i don't know which one my wife got, cant wait with a 3.5 2 stroke engine.
+dwight little, thanks, ask Ms Santa for both. I got me a fish finder as well but have not yet hooked it up. This crazy schedule of mine is keeping me out of the water for the past month. Be sure to share the vids.
JFS Outdoor Adventures just some advice. Take measurements for the custom boxes with the boat fully inflated to spec. First boxes I made were too big on the sides. Had to trim an inch. Have fun.
Excellent video, love your mods. I just got my Mariner 4 and I'm basically copying some of what you did because I like it so much. If you don't mind could you tell me a little more about the solar panels, where to get them and the connections needed. I'd love to pull some solar power to my battery if you feel like it's worth it... Thanks, Matt
Eggyvine 99 do not go with the panels I got. Gotta get something with MORE POWA! At least that’s what some say. Harbor freight may have some that may be small enough to take with.
I plan on buying this. I want to use a wood floor but just keep it simple and use a cooler as a seat should i just use the slat floor with maybe thinner plywood
The thinner the plywood the more you will feel the bending. Slate floor is nice by itself if ur gonna do that. The wood if not done right can in time tear through the vynal if not prepped right. Mine had garden hose and carpet surrounding it.
Nice job. Currently building my own Mariner 4 with the hardwood floor swivel seats and solar. I don't know if you're around still to answer these questions but I notice on your multimeter you were outputting 25 volts from your solar setup Are you running a 24 volt deep cycle set up to power the trolling motor or is that 12 volt?
tribete80 yes it was an 80lb trolling motor which required two 12 volt batteries in series. But the solar thing may have needed a more powerful output from some insight I gotten from some commenters. They were probably right.
@@dezertgrunt Nice with the 80 lb trolling motor I'm going with the 55 lb due to my budget but it'll just be me on the boat and I don't think I'll be adding as much platforming and weight as you did. My motor is only 12 volt but I am running two batteries in parallel to double my capacity, As well as adding a 50-watt solar panel and a 35-watt wind powered generator for charging the batteries I plan on taking some multi-day river trips with overnight camping and I'll need a way to get some of my amp hours back
Had for a couple years with no tears or issues, just ensure edges of floor board are not jagged. Sold it due to moving into full-time RVing. Didn't have the room after.
Do you trailer this rig to the water's edge? Or do you load and haul all the parts, unload them at the water's edge and reassemble the thing? How much time passes between arriving at the ramp/launch area and pushing away from shore in the boat?
Andrew Costen, on this particular day I did have to put it together piece by piece. On my others video you see what I had built for the next outing in the water. Trailer is most definitely worth the time and money spent for my type of set up. Lemme know if u have any other questions.
I went the same route (trailering) after two years of assembling and disassembling my own raft at the water's edge. Three years later I bit the bullet and bought an Xpress X-19 aluminum bassboat - a real boat. The raft has been collecting dust ever since. It was just too labor intensive to use with all the parts that had to be assembled/connected/installed. Over-engineering at it's finest! LOL
Awesome build man. But is t just me or the seat is just too high? Might make the boat a bit unstable if its that high. Be sure not bring a clumsy friend wth you. LOL
thoidi thea u will have to check with ur natural resources Web page for a registration requirement if that's what u meant. Usually if U have a trolley motor u will have to register it. If no motor, then u just need ur fishing license.
What you've done with the Mariner 4 is absolutely awesome! I know its asking a lot but is there any way I can get the dimensions for the seats and storage box off of you? I'd love to build the same setup that you have.
Dalon Harnden these panels will not charge your batteries as you would like. I would say get the actual solar panels with more wattage. Just my honest opinion.
Damn that trolling motor goes alot faster then I thought it would. I am glad you finally were able to take it out, how long did the battery last with those solar panels?
U know, when I came back from the lake after another 2 hour of trolling here n trolling there. There was still 12 volts on both batteries. I didnt really need to do speed 5. Speed 2 n 3 was enough to get where I needed to go. The solar panels themselves were ina spot directly In the sun. Im not sure how to measure amp being put in but im hoping it maintained it little by little when not in one spot.
they provide about 0.15 amps per hour.. your not going to gain anything by having them, you would need a 100 watt panel to really gain something. Keep in mind that Watts divided by volts = amps
dezertgrunt That’s what I thought, but I saw some other videos where they put the wood over the stock floor. Seemed unnecessary to me, too. Thanks for your reply.
can you please point to the solar panels you are using? I'm thinking of doing the same thing only with minn kota c2 30lb, and would like to put solar panels to increase trolling time. I would go with 12V setup instead of 24V. Btw, beautiful setup, that's a lot of effort in that work :)
Chris Figu I had two 12v batteries in series for the 24v. Fishing for hours never really had an issue also didn’t run the motor all that much except spot to spot. All day if ur smart with it.
I received my Mariner 4 five days ago. Watching mod videos for the Mariner 4, I never see if the wood floor installs on top of the slatted floor, or if it replaces it. When you installed the floor, which did you do? With, or without? Great video, thanks for sharing.
I did it without the slatted flooring only because it would only add more weight to the boat. Those slates are not light and the plywood floor held out pretty good. The keel inflated also helps the board not bend in the middle if you use thinner than half inch wood. If you have facebook, join a group Excursion 5. Lots of ideas and active poeple that will chime in their experience and ideas fast. Pics are posted as well as videos.

@@williamcollejo4418 the material of the mariner is pretty strong. As u can see in the video, all those mods are not light not including my own weight. Going through small rivers I hit plenty of branches and still had zero puncture.
No I dont. It was measure as I built. If that is what u meant. I just followed the pattern of it when inflated. Got angles for the curves and put it to the board.
86 lb thrust motor? wow that seems so overkill. A 40 lb thrust would probably go the same speed. The higher thrust motors are rated for higher weight capacity, meaning bigger boats. 30 lb thrust motor would be fine for that boat.
