Awesome! I just upgraded to the Mariner 4, had a 3. Have a newport vessels 55 lb trolling motor and 55 amp mighty max battery and another battery even more powerful, solar panels, two 8inch speakers, the awning. I like the floor idea and now I'm getting a fish finder. Once I get my floors in with carpet I'm going to install two swivel seats and a table in the middle to play cards or watch TV, cook, whatever. Awesome modifications and thank you for the ideas!
Great Rig Neil! Your ideas allowed me to modify my new Mariner 4 using a lot of your specs but I added a Bimini Cover, transducer mount attached to my sliding tray, and Solar panel that flips out on the other side of the tray that charges my deep cycle, and then I attached lighting to the Bimini cover for night fishing! Thank you for a well explained video and time to provide details.

Very cool! I appreciate the video. The only thing you could do better is 1) paint the untreated plywood unless you never plan to get it wet (it'll rot eventually and just get nasty with all the fish guts, spills, etc. 2) Post links to the products you bought (always a nice touch) 3) Definitely need to toss the motor mounts and get something that'll lock it in place better I love the fishing rod holders! They are very cool.
Your build has really got me wanting one of these over a Kayak. Solo I would probably prefer a Yak but this allows for a fishin buddy. I wonder if my cooler would fit under the slider. That pvc frame/bungie cord setup is solid
Would love to see some lamination (preferably a carbon fiber finish) around the plywoods and you would heave the best inflatable MOD in the whole world!
I was just given one of these boats from a friend and I LOVE this set up!!! Thanks for sharing! Question, where’s the best place to get the whole seat set-up? (Base plate, pole, seat mount and seat)
I pieced mine together, looking for best prices. The seats I got at my local Academy Sports store. The Attwood swivels and adjustable pedestals can be found at Walmart or Amazon; my local Walmart had them. The side-mounted caddy/cupholder is available at Amazon.
Neil, awesome setup! I have a question on the sliding of the table. Did you cut off a part of the PVC to make it slide? It is really hard to see how it is attached in the video. Thanks!
That's correct. I cut 4 pieces of PVC pipe, approximately 2-3 inches long, then sliced a section out of each, lengthwise. These are screwed into the bottom of the tray. They "clip" onto the side rails with downward pressure.
Awesome video and modifications! You said you already had the gray connection part (that thing your bungee strap is attached to) but did you buy or it did it come with your other boat? I'm trying to find some to purchase to accessorize my Mariner with but can't seem to find those just by themselves. Do you know what the actual part name is? Also, having your transducer installed on the side of the boat like that, have you noticed any misreadings?
That gray connection part was harvested from my first (defective) boat, and glued on with HH-66. So my boat has extra glued-on parts like rod holders, motor mounts, and these tie-downs.
Neil, I want to say that's really awesome! How durable is the boat used for this build? Have you had any problems with wholes from, rocks, stumps, or hooks? Do you have an email that I might be able to contact you at? I have a few other questions if you would mind helping me out I would greatly appreciate it.
Hi Mark, it's been in storage since last used in the fall of 2018; I lost my ability to transport it, so it doesn't get used any more. It saw the water 3 times, with no issues on a private 65 acre lake, so I can't vouch for any long-term durability, but the Mariner line from Intex is known for being tougher than say their Excursion products, which are more like a pool toy's vinyl. Feel free to ask additional questions by just replying in these comments.
Thanks. Not sure I'll take it out again this year, but will record if I do. I transport it, inflated, on the top of my minivan. Then on the boat ramp, we place it parallel to the shoreline, load it up, and my passenger and I simultaneously put one foot in, and push away with the other. The front passenger inflates the keel once we're away.
I love what u did with ur set up, may I ask where you bought the chair and the name of it, I kind of got a similar boat but it has aluminum floor so you think I can install something like that on it
I bought the chairs at Academy Sports + Outdoors. If you go to their website Academy.com, search for "Marine Raider Padded Fold Down Boat Seat." I also bought an adjustable pedestal for each.
Always see these videos with the boat out the water.. mine that dont have all this doesnt do good in water because of all the motion.. you can even stand up. Would be nice to see something like this in use.
Thanks, but my van was totaled this winter, and I now have no way to transport it, unless I cut the one-piece plywood floor into two pieces, which I really don't want to do. :(
@@ndettwiler you could put a hinge on them once you cut them and add the same mechanism on the top of the floor as thats on the old time wooden block locks the ones that are like battering ram proof, and it would support the pivot of the hinge and creating the same feel as solid one peice
Very nice..where did you get the extra hooking points to glue on boat..I only saw Scotty but wondering if there is another way to stick extra mounting points? I see in another post u mentioned what kind of glue u use. But what do you use for the hooks?
My first Mariner 4 came with a defect - a small hole that was in a bad spot and could not be patched. I filed a warranty claim with Intex, and they had me cut a valve out of the defective boat (rendering it unusable) and mail it in. They sent me a new boat (just the boat - no oars, valves, accessories, floor, slats, etc.). So I had an extra boat body that I harvested parts from.

I had to cut mine too. See my other video on my Mariner 4 - during the assembly process, I show how I used a strip of H channel to join the boards together to add some rigidity.
I bought the Mariner 4 for ~$180 shipped. It normally drops to this price a few times per year from various sources, although there is currently a shortage and the prices have skyrocketed. The seats were ~$25 each from Academy Sports. The swivels for each seat were ~$7 each. The seat posts were probably around $20 each (can't remember exactly). I think my plywood for the floor (and the sliding shelf) was ~$35. All of that PVC was probably ~$40. The Intex motor mount was around $20. The Scotty glue-on pad which holds the tranducer was ~$10. There's probably another $20 in hardware for the seat posts and the transducer mount. Hope that helps!
Mine is mostly inflated, with the plywood floor installed, hanging from the ceiling in the garage. I use a hoist meant for a kayak, and I hook it up to the seat post bases, which remain attached to the plywood floor.
Do you know the dimensions of the floor? I plan on getting some wood to make floors and use marine carpet. Wondering if you just use the plastic floor as a template, or if you had to take a little more off for when you apply the marine carpet? I've had a mariner 3 raft and now a 4 but had issues with the one I had sending it back because the seam was leaking.
I used the full 8' length of a sheet of plywood. I did use the plastic floor as an initial template. I then did several rounds of test fitting and trimming until I got comfortable with the fit. I paid close attention to how much pressure the corners were putting on the boat. Width ended up being 33.75".
I never carpeted my floor. I didn't think it was a good idea, since it's going to get wet. I would consider laying a trimmed piece of carpet on top of the wood floor, for comfort, but I wouldn't attach it to the wood. The boat is too heavy already, so I also take weight into consideration, so probably won't do carpet at all.
@@ndettwiler great idea, I didn't even think about it getting wett. I am receiving my new mariner 4 tomorrow and I'm going to start working on it after work. Hello I’m trying to figure out how to mount my transducer to my boat. I have a very similar set up except with the mariner 3. I was wondering where you purchased the glueable mounting piece that you attach the pvc pipe too. Thanks!
The Mariner 4 has an inflatable keel in the floor, but not an inflatable floor. The wood floor has to be installed in the boat before the 4 wall chambers are inflated. Then the inflatable keel can be inflated. I like to launch the boat before inflating the keel, but I then inflate the keel immediately, as it helps provide structure to the floor.

Hi Ned. I started with an 8'x4' sheet of 1/2" plywood, and kept the full length of 8', which is almost long enough to cover the floor, but does leave a few inches exposed at either end. I placed this sheet under the vinyl floor insert (without the stiffeners) to trace the outline. I cut along the tracing marks, then sanded down all sharp corners. A test fit helped me see where I needed to take off more material, which I did with a power sander. I repeated this process of test fitting and shaving off material until I felt like I had a good fit.

I have a 55 lb trolling motor newport vessels, 55 amp mighty max battery and another battery even more powerful like 600 amp or something, a ice chest, two 8inch speakers with lights, marine chair, I posted a few videos. Fish finder, lol, I camp overnight on mine, I have a canopy and just use a sleeping bag. Last time I was way out anchored, taking on water all night, one chamber leaking air and it started raining. Kinda a rough night sleeping 😂😂😂😂😂☔😴
how do you store the flooring and doesn't the floor pretty much negate the easy storage that people buy them in the first place?
I store the boat ~75% inflated, with the wood floor installed, suspended from the ceiling of my garage using a kayak hoist.
Are you only using the wood floor you built? You don't put your wood floor on top of the floor that came with the raft?
I only use the plywood floor. I do not use the floor that came with the boat.
Nice
Boat is great, can you confirm the seat post size? I see you academy.com not but the on only post I see appears to only be 13”. Is that the one?

Super easy to install, just two sturdy supplied screws.
This guy doesn't install his in the traditional way, but at one point in the video he shows how its attachment points mate up with the side lip of the chair: ua-cam.com/video/5P4-wm3RNZE/v-deo.html
Hello Nice work. Please is there an explanatory video for the assembly of the rod holders? How they are secured so as not to let go THANKS

@@ndettwiler Hello, thank you for your feedback. But I'm looking for the manufacturing method for rod holders. THANKS

If I make same this boat with same yr engin how much cost totaly? Pls give me idea.
Thank you.

Can you please give me the name and the link to buy the chair?
Hello I’m trying to figure out how to mount my transducer to my boat. I have a very similar set up except with the mariner 3. I was wondering where you purchased the glueable mounting piece that you attach the pvc pipe too. Thanks!

Do you inflate the bottom before you put the floor on top?
The Mariner 4 has an inflatable keel in the floor, but not an inflatable floor. The wood floor has to be installed in the boat before the 4 wall chambers are inflated. Then the inflatable keel can be inflated. I like to launch the boat before inflating the keel, but I then inflate the keel immediately, as it helps provide structure to the floor.
What type of glue you use to ad more things on your index boat

Hey, can you remember the thickness of your plywood floor please in mm?
Looks like you didn't use the slatted floor is that right?
Thanks.
Correct, I did not use the slatted floor. I used 1/2" plywood.
How much was your setup when finished, excluding transducer?

Where did you get the transducer mount patch thing
That's a Scotty glue-on mount pad: www.basspro.com/shop/en/scotty-glue-on-mount-pad
Thanks Neil. Awesome set up. Could you give the plywood dimensions?
