    i really like that idea of using the tie straps to hold the insulation. I've seen ppl use hot glue guns and melt the insulation and others that tried using that contact glue and that didn't really have a good hold on it. Tie straps it is. I am in the process of modifying my excursion 5. Thanks for the GREAT TIPS!

      MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THE INSULATION HOSES FOR COVER THE BORDERS OF THE FLOOR ,,,,IS JUST TAKE A SAND PAPER THEN MAKE THE BORDERS ANGLES MUCH ROUDED AND SOFT AS POSIBLE ,,,,,WORKS VERY GOOD,,,,,,,DO NOT USE CARPET USE A COAT OF FIBER GLASS AND YOU JUST ADD THE TINT COLOR YOU LIKE THIS COLOR NEVER NEVER CAMES OUT AND BEAUTIFUL COLORS AVAILABLE AN THE STRENGHT YOU ARE ADDING,,,,, VERY EASY

    Great video but calm it a little with the bass on the music at the end. The only bass in this video should be coming from the water ;) Maybe just tone the bass down and lower the volume 'slightly' and that music perhaps fits the video... Great little boat, with some nice mods. I am looking at this boat for the summer or possibly next summer. How is the material for durability? Any worries with getting hooks accidently popping holes or should that not be a problem if I am careful? I have never fished from a boat, only from land at the harbour or beach.

    • @Ejaramillo77
      @Ejaramillo77 5 років тому

      Looking at some still frames from the video, it looks like the pool noodles serve 2 potential purposes. 1. It lifts the fabric canopy slightly higher to give more head clearance (vinyl boat and bungees allow for flex and therefore some drooping/sagging from either movement or wind). 2. It lifts the fabric further away from the bolt heads and bungee clips to help minimize potential snags and rips. Just my observation.

      Craig were you able to do this? Any tips?

    • @Sh1nrin_Yoku
      @Sh1nrin_Yoku 4 роки тому +1

      @@juliezavala53 I did! I haven't actually done the maiden voyage with it yet. Mind you, I only did the canopy part. It doesn't look as nice as the one in this video, but it's good enough. As far as tips, I'd recommend getting an actual pvc tube cutter. They're cheap on Amazon. I tried with other tools and it's harder and sloppier. Purchase extra squeeze clamps as they can be used for both holding the cloth to the PVC as well as the PVC to the boat, where the oar holes are. Play with the sizing before you make cuts. Maybe you want your arch higher, or lower than what's in the video.

    • @juliezavala53
      @juliezavala53 4 роки тому

      Craig S. Lombardo Thanks for the tips Craig. So you clipped the pvc elbow to the oar hole using a spring clamp? That’s where it shows to place the elbow in the video, but the newer model has a different oar holder than the older model. Is it sturdy? I had the big idea to use a canvas drop cloth for the cover, but maybe it’s too heavy. It looked pretty crappy with the elbows stuck into the fishing pole holders.

    • @Sh1nrin_Yoku
      @Sh1nrin_Yoku 4 роки тому +1

      @@juliezavala53 yeah so I had the same problem, the elbows didn't fit into the smaller oar holes, and obviously not in the big ones, so I put the elbows in the big holes and applied a clamp on the PVC tube, above the oar holes, preventing the pole from moving. Yes it was sturdy enough, but I suppose that answer can vary depending on the type of clamps you use. Mine are pretty strong. If you go to a fabric store, you can ask for a rectangle cut of sunbrella fabric to the size you prefer. The salesman actually sold me a different brand that is still water resistant/marine grade. Saved me money not paying for the sunbrella brand. I think it cost me $60

    Is PVC just as effective as CPVC in this use?
    Do you need to cut the CPVC at the "T"s
    Why the floating pool noodles under the roof when on the pond?
    What is the length of the CPVC in your arcs?

    • @1billyknorr
      @1billyknorr  9 років тому +1

      If I was to make another canopy it would probably be made with pvc as it is a little stronger.when the winds hit 15+ the canopy needs a little help from bending over. I believe with pvc instead of cpvc one could tighten the bungees a lot more. Although the pvc might not bend as well to creat the arc. As far as the noodles, it was a good spot to put them so they weren't in they way. To get the T's in the location you prefer you have to cut the pipe to that length. What I did was find the arc I liked the got some help to position everything how I liked. Then marked it with a marker and cut the pipe to length. Everything was glued except for the 2 pipes that run the length of the raft, they are held by a wing nut and bolt.

    Mark

    • @1billyknorr
      @1billyknorr  8 років тому +2

      yes any thing that supplies 10 to 16 or even 17 volts will run your motor. you could use a motor the size of one that was in let's say an old Sony walkman. if it was a 12 volt motor. it would not burn up by using your car battery. it would just run for days on end. now if your used a 20 volt battery from a Dewalt drill you would run the chance of hurting the motor. the physical size only has to do with how long the bettery will last. it's measured in amp hours. voltage I what u want to match up. although a car/engine start battery isn't recommended for running motors. you would need a deep cycle battery. it will last far longer under those types of condidtions. the car type is designed to give as much power as possible for short bursts. the deep cycle is ment for long, deep discharges and recharges. I now have a 200 amp hour deep cycle Trojan battery for the raft. I can now go all day with no worries.

    Two years later this motor is going strong ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

Anybody figure this out yet (with the newer model)?

      Julie, it might be too late for a suggestion but I solved that problem by getting a 3/4 inch 90 degree elbow with a threaded extension which fit thru the oar hole, and then a 3/4 inch female socket piece whose base was larger so that it didn't fall thru the oar hole. I love your idea. I'm working on mine. It's more a comedy of errors. One miss calculation I made was the overall weight of the boat as well as the floor. No real surprise there except that most of these videos are done by men half my age. I am a woman in my sixties with a bigger dream than body. By the time I get this thing in the water I may be too tired to fish! Lol! Another problem I've in countered is that the PVC 1/2 inch is too big to fit in holes on the orr mounts! Watched this video many times and even took notes. Where I go wrong? Help!

      Well we took our boat out on one of our local lakes. Spent several days fishing. Had a lot of laughs and my daughter caught the only fish on our last day. My foam floor was an improvement but still a bit wobbly. I never felt comfortable standing on it in the middle of the lake but I must confess that I have poor sense of balance. My bimini though not exactly like yours provided good shade but turned into a sail when the wind picked up. I will be working on some revisions but all in all your vidio was a good inspration. Thanks a bunch and many hours of happy fishing all of you guys out there.

    You know all you need is another (2) canopies of measurable size to fit the left and right sides and you literally have a camp/off grid boat. Put a portable solar panel, portable fridge, portable light, portable good sized fan, an inflatable bed and mosquito netting in the front and back and you literally are off grid/camp ready.

    hi, what are the length of the cpvc?

    • @1billyknorr
      @1billyknorr  8 років тому

      they started off originally as 10 Footers. I started off with four of them. 2 for the bow and two for the support spars. the two that are bowed are approximately 8 foot long. I bent one until it felt right and cut it at that length. I then cut the other to match. it wasn't an easy task to do by myself. Some clamps will help lots if you don't have any help. if I was to do it again I would use 3/4 schedule 40 pvc. I would not bend it. 90's would be used. in winds over 15mph the canopy would push down from the wind. the pvc is a lot more ridged.

      +BackRoom Labs Thank you for all the info... I am planning to use 90 degree angle instead.. but if I use 3/4 pvc do I just use the fishing rod holder as the support instead of the orb holder

      Just cpvc from home Depot. Worked great on a calm day. Windy days not so much. The pipe is to flexible. So I eventually made it out of just 3/4 schedule 40 PVC.

    Fake. He put the motor in the barrel but the barrel isn’t moving at all. Either fake or it’s a crappy motor.
