Thank you for all the information sis. I decided to go back to beauty school and Aveda is my top choice so far. I'm glad you gave this detailed video because I really need to go to a school that will over prepare me for state board. New subscriber.

Did you learn the latest beauty trends like hydrodermabrasion, dermaplaning and microneedling?? Thank you so much for your video. I'm trying to decipher where to go to NIMA or Aveda :)
Hi love! No we didn’t, Aveda is very much a traditional school that focuses more or Ayurvedic and holistic treatments. If you are looking to learn more of the the latest treatments and modalities, Aveda may not be the best school for what you’re looking for. I really hoped this helps, and good luck on choosing a school!
I start on the 19th!!!! I’m so happy I can’t wait!!!!!! I colored someone’s hair today!!! Felt like I did a really good job!!!! Thank you so much for making this vid!!!!! Can you give me some advice to making money during school and what advice can you give me about school?
That's definitely exciting! Maintaining a job during school is very difficult, so if you don't have to, I wouldn't recommend to. But, if it's absolutely necessary, try to find a job that's flexible with your school schedule. You will feel overworked at times. I went to school 30hrs per week for school, and worked part time 30 hours, so it was 60hrs per week and I only had one day off, when I didn't have to go to either. My tip would be don't miss school, if you do make up your hours as soon as possible, or even before you miss days, if you have plans to miss a lot of time. Those make up hours add up fast. There were girls in our class who had to stay weeks after graduation to finish their hours, and they had to pay more money to the school. I hope that helps and answers your questions!
I was sooooo nervous as well, because it’s a new experience, and you don’t really know what to expect. I hope me sharing my experience helped ease your nerves a bit. Good luck on your journey!
That’s so exciting! I’m sure they will answer any questions you may have to help you make the right decision! I definitely wish I spent more time looking for scholarships lol, so you’re definitely on the right path!
@@vanessatorresramirez2429 Honestly I liked it. I was on the A side (Monday-Thursday) my instructors were very nice and super helpful. They have a lot of resources. Hi love! Every school is not the same. I encourage you to tour and ask as many questions as possible. Even talk to current students in the program if you have the opportunity.
Aveda sounds like a scam lol but at least their prices are lower than the options here in Chicago. This is so thorough, thank you. Your clients are lucky to have you because just listening to you your voice is so soothing.
Hi love! I was happy with my overall experience, I understood in order to receive my license I would have to invest in myself and I’m so glad that I did! Thank you so much!!
ReAnna Danielle Hi love! Aveda Institute does not provide direct job placement. They do however, hold career fairs, and the specific school I attended, we had a huge board where employers would come and attach flyers for open positions, which was really helpfully. While I was completing my program, I worked part time at Bliss Spa as a Spa concierge, so once I was licensed, they had an opening for an esthetician and I transitioned into that role! It was the best decision ever, because I was already familiar with the company, products, services, pay structures, as well client traffic. Which are all very important! I obtained my license to go into the lash industry so that is what I did full time. With anything in the beauty industry your salary depends on where you work, their pay structure ( i.e. hourly, commissions, bonuses, and tips) I have a video about how to choose the right place to work within the beauty industry, my experiences, and tips, coming soon!
I think I kind of already know my answer.. basically it would make sense that you’d have to buy into the industry that you’re selling, and while I do think makeup nails hair and all the fun of it all including a fun relaxing day at the spa sounds like loads of fun, at the same time, if I’m one to keep it simple and not be one to do more than get a haircut and take good care of my skin by just using natural products I enjoy and doing the basic wash tone moisturize everyday, this may not be the industry for me, even though I think I could enjoy the job itself minus the waxing or extractions 😁 no job is perfect, I think maybe buying into or truly believing in why I’m doing it maybe I just couldn’t sell it if that makes sense. Like I’m pretty practical and don’t like to spend money on makeup and stuff not that it’s not fun and expressive and all that jazz, but I just try to take good care of myself and idk let my natural beauty shine through..not really the backbone of the industry I guess huh? It’s like I’m torn between really thinking it’s all fun and artsy and enjoyable and the enjoyment of giving someone a luxury spa treatment or being seriously skilled with hair styling and all the impressive things you could do with that, and not really buying into it myself and selling it if that makes sense. So it’s like half of me is a perfect fit for it but the other half kind of idk won’t budge does that make sense?
I know hairstylist who get their haircut twice a year and kept it in a bun or ponytail. Makeup artist who barely wear makeup, nail techs that rarely have their nails done, esthetician with less than perfect skin, and I do lashes, and don’t get mine done. The whole buying in to the industry, is not always the case. What you do is not who you are. You can have a passion to provide a service, that you rarely receive. It has nothing to do with what you do for yourself, it’s all about what you would love to do for others.
Did you need to have any experience going into Aveda? That may be a silly question because it is a school but I am looking to go there but have never had experience with esthetics. I am graduating high school this year and will hopefully attend Aveda.
Hi love! I had experience working in the beauty industry as a make up artist. But as far as esthetics, none at all, and you really don’t need any. In my class we had people who had just graduated high school, people who had been working corporate jobs for years and wanted a change in careers, people who owned their own businesses, stay at home moms and everything in between! We all were “green” meaning we knew little to nothing when we began school so don’t worry. Everyone is there to learn the same things, and to begin a journey together!
Ayonnaz Glam You’re welcome love!!! New video this week!! Maybe a new beauty and business series!!! I have soooo much information I want to give you! Definitely stay tuned !
Hey did waxing ever bother you and did you have to practice on each other? Also does aveda require esthiologists to wear makeup and is dress code the same for both the cosmetology and esthiology program? Also between cosmetology and esthiology, would someone who is more natural and tends to do the bare minimum with her own personal style be more apt for esthiology or maybe are neither programs possibly a fit for them in your personal opinion and experience? I love the art and relaxation parts of both cosmetology and esthiology and just treating yourself but not sure if it would be a right fit for me. I did do a few weeks of cosmetology school at a different school a few years back but I felt a bit lost at the time like I didn’t feel like I was being my authentic self I missed my part time job working with kids and wished I was able to do that while going to school and the clothing and idk some of the things felt a bit of a challenge to my nature if that makes sense but I did have a good experience there I was just having doubts and wasn’t ready to fully commit…you mentioned you kind of have to be all in to do it and that obv makes sense : ) thanks if you were able to read through all this
We learned waxing. I don’t mind facial waxing, but I don’t like body waxing. Luckily we didn’t have a lot of clients that came to the institute for body waxing. Nor, was it something we were tested on to graduate or for the State Board exams. They do require the same dress code for the entire school no matter which program you are in. We weren’t required to wear make up. Who you are, is different from what you do. So it depends what you enjoy doing, and can see yourself doing long term that determines which program would be best. I think you care too much about fitting in, and your own stereotypes of what you think a hairstylist or esthetician “should look like”. When you just have to be you and find your own passion. I will say working at both salons and spas in the past, salons do care a lot more about what you look like. How you dress, how you wear your hair, nails, etc. But that varies place to place. I can’t honestly say which program would be best you have to figure out what exactly you could see yourself doing, it could be various things. Use that to determine which would be best! I hope this helps! I wish you the best on your journey!
Hi love! It’s a question to ask during your tour, each institute has different schedules. But their schedules are pretty much set. In my opinion, it’s easier for your job to work around your school schedule, than the opposite. I went to school Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday basically all day. So I had to find a part time job where I could work the days I wasn’t in school. I really hope this helps! Definitely take a tour and they should be able to answer any specific questions you have!
Hi Linzie, loved your video! I am from India I will just graduate in 2 months (commerce). I am thinking of going to a cosmetology school as I think this is my passion but there are no good cosmetology schools here. so is it worth coming all the way from India to join Aveda Institute. Also are there any pre requisite to get admission?
Hi Manushi! I think you should go to school where you want to be licensed. Here in the US each state has different requirements in order to receive your license. Because I attended school in Dallas, Texas, I’m only licensed in the state of Texas. I’m sure it would also vary for different countries. If you want to be licensed in India, you should attend school there. I’m not sure how the process of transferring a license would be, or if it’s possible. I personally don’t think it would be worth it to come here just to attend Aveda. There aren’t any pre-requisites other than a high school diploma or equivalent. I really hope this helps!
Hii Manushi! Have you joined any cosmetology school yet? I am from India too. I am very much interested in the esthetics course but not sure where to pursue and will it be worth it to move to a different country. I am very sure about this course and i don't mind settling in a different country.
Hey honey! Your kit fee is included in your tuition. How much financial aid you receive will vary person to person. Once you finish the admissions process, you will meet with a financial aid advisor and they will let you know what your options are to pay for school, as well as a payment plan with due dates, if necessary.
I’m really not sure…I only toured Aveda and decided to attend. It’s definitely on the more expensive side from what I’ve heard. You can tour schools and they will let you know the tuition cost. But definitely look up reviews if possible before making a decision! I know some people who went to other schools like Ogle and it’s less expensive but they didn’t have a good experience, or felt prepared for state board. Choose wisely!
Thank you love! I line my lips with Medium Brown, and Dark Brown pencil from NYX, and use ELF Lip Plumping Gloss in Pink Cosmo...I do have a video on my channel of my favorite nude combinations!
Hi honey! No I didn’t, when you speak with financial aid they will go over your payment options and if you have to pay out of pocket, they will give you a payment plan. It was all paid by the time I graduated. I hope this helps!
Do you know how it works for people that work full time and go to esthetic school part time? I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to make working and going to school at the same work.
Hi love! Depending on what school you attend, each school has a different schedule. The Aveda Institute in Dallas when I attended didn’t offer a part time program. Its was 30 hours per week, 3 days per week, 10 hours days ...it was 8am-7pm, with an hour lunch...so I worked a part time job working the front desk at a salon 3 days per week. They allowed me to work 10-12 hour days . It was definitely very hard, I was tired, stressed, and broke. But I knew, I only had to make it through six months and I would be able to do so much more. So if you decide to go to school, you really have to know that’s what you want to do. Because you will have to make sacrifices.
Hi! They did teach us make up briefly, we didn’t spend more than a day or so on it. So if you are looking for a school to teach makeup in depth, this may not be the school for you. Especially, since we didn’t get a lot of clients coming in for make up either. I had already been into make up for many years before starting the program and I personally didn’t learn anything new.
Hi love! Each location is different, I attended in 2018 and it was about $11,000. I would highly suggest going to tour the location and meeting with an admissions rep!
Hey love! Honestly each day was different. In the beginning it’s so exciting, so much to do and learn. But towards the end the days go by so slow, you’re literally counting down the hours until graduation lol
So do you recommend it ? And can I also do barber school and cosmetology school like I heard it’s 1000 hours or 1500 and they say after I graduate In May(I’m not in there yet until next year) and I still need 2 more months cuz of the 1500 hours they said I can take the barber course for free so is that true ?
Hi honey! I can’t recommend a school for anyone because, every school is different, and what you are looking for may be different from what I was looking for. I can only share my knowledge and experience. Definitely visit different schools and do as much research as possible. From my knowledge each program requires a different amount of hours...because they are all completely different courses the hours can’t be combined. But, whatever school you’re interested in attending you can ask their admissions coordinator, and they will be able to let know for sure.
Thanks for sharing! Can I ask you a question? Did you have any say in the clients you would take? (Mainly I’m asking because I’m not comfortable being alone in a treatment room with a guy so I’d only want to treat women in those situations and I’m wondering how easy/difficult that would be to arrange) ✨
Thank you for watching! No, we didn’t have a say in which clients we could take, and honestly not just in school but at the spa’s I worked at as well. For example, let’s say you there isn’t anyone else available, a company can’t refuse a client based on their gender for legal reasons.
@@linzielinzie thanks for the insight! How many guy clients would you say you get on average? Did you have any issues come up (with inappropriate or uncomfortable behavior?)? ✨💕
@@kristabradleymusic I had a few in school…but definitely more when I worked at a spa. I’ve never had anyone ever be inappropriate. They were there for they facial and that’s it. I’ve never heard of anything happening with male clients from other estheticians either. I don’t think it’s a something that happens. I think massage therapist have more of a likelihood of something like that possibly happening. But, that’s just my opinion, I hope that helps!

We all were “green” meaning we knew little to nothing when we began school so don’t worry. Everyone is there to learn the same things, and to begin a journey together!
“Or you just nosey and wanna know my business!!” 😂😂💀
I know they’re watching! Lmao 👀🤣
@@linzielinzie lmao always 🥴😂😂

So after getting your esthetician license could you do lashes or did u have to do a separate course since Aveda doesn’t teach that?
In the state of Texas you have to have a cosmetologist or esthetician license and a lash extension certification, or you can get just a lash license.
Love this! Are they flexible with the hours? Because I have to work and attend school🌼🐛
Does financial aid cover your kit fee and your payment on the first day?
Hey honey! Your kit fee is included in your tuition. How much financial aid you receive will vary person to person. Once you finish the admissions process, you will meet with a financial aid advisor and they will let you know what your options are to pay for school, as well as a payment plan with due dates, if necessary.
Linzie Linzie Thank you!!🥰
Girl I live in PA and im sold on Texas now lol
I'm looking into schools now, what's the cheapest school in the DFW area?
I’m really not sure…I only toured Aveda and decided to attend. It’s definitely on the more expensive side from what I’ve heard. You can tour schools and they will let you know the tuition cost. But definitely look up reviews if possible before making a decision! I know some people who went to other schools like Ogle and it’s less expensive but they didn’t have a good experience, or felt prepared for state board. Choose wisely!
Hello - Love your look. What is the brand and name of your lipsticks?
Thank you love! I line my lips with Medium Brown, and Dark Brown pencil from NYX, and use ELF Lip Plumping Gloss in Pink Cosmo...I do have a video on my channel of my favorite nude combinations!
Did you pay everything upfront first before you went to school?
Nice! Very informative!
Thank you love!
Can you have your nails done as an esthetician or is it recommended not to?
Hey love! You can have your nails done but they have to be short.
My Aveda seems sketchy
hey did they have to do brazilian wax?
We had a demo, but I still to this day haven’t done a Brazilian lol…I have an updated Q and A video about my experience coming in the next few weeks!
Hello
Do they teach about makeup?
What song is that in the beginning
Hi love! It’s “Say yeah” by Mnelia
I start 11/7
Good luck on your journey love!!
What Aveda school? Maybe I missed it?
Hi love! I attended Aveda Institute in Dallas!
She as the same name as me no one in my school has the same name as me it's also spelled the same too
How much did the class cost ?
Hi love! Each location is different, I attended in 2018 and it was about $11,000. I would highly suggest going to tour the location and meeting with an admissions rep!
Please, next time lower the music. No need for it any ways :]
I start the 27th! I’m pretty nervous about the long days, how did you feel about the days? Did they seem to go by slow or fast
Thank you for this video.. this was very informative!
Thank you so much for this video!!!
