    There are so many reasons to go on a vegan whole food plant based nutrition plan. Having a better quality of life as we age is surely a benefit and I appreciate how my body is able to have what feels like limitless energy. But all the focus on longevity feels like a human centered competition. Let’s equally celebrate the impact of a plant based approach for the its decreased impact on the planet as well as the lives of animals.

    Kudos to Klaus for getting a "sit-down" interview with Dr. Greger! I have noticed that Dr. Greger has recently been giving online interviews where he is simultaneously walking on a treadmill. This is very impressive that he can do two things at the same time and is excellent promotion for his books on health and longevity. But... it is somewhat distracting and almost a little rude to the interviewer and the video audience. I guess we must make allowances for the eccentricities of geniuses!

    So here is my fact checking of that Dr
    1. Thats pretty much correct
    2. While direct evidence for meditation slowing the aging process might be limited or mixed, this does not negate the broader health benefits associated with meditation practices. The relationship between meditation and aging is likely indirect, mediated through improved health outcomes and well-being, which can contribute to a healthier, potentially longer life. Future research, especially long-term longitudinal studies, may provide clearer insights into how meditation influences the aging process.
    3.Studies that observe associations between longer sleep durations (e.g., 9+ hours) and increased mortality often cannot prove causality. It's possible that underlying health conditions might cause some individuals to sleep longer. For instance, chronic illnesses, depression, and low physical activity levels can both lead to increased sleep duration and are independently associated with higher mortality risk.
    4. Everything seems to check out here. But I will just add that its not cool to test on animals and then still know nothing bc humans are different anyways. Whats the point?
    5. The consensus among health professionals is that regular physical activity is a key component of a healthy lifestyle and is beneficial for longevity and reducing the risk of many chronic diseases, irrespective of one's genetic background. The decision to exercise and the resulting health benefits are largely determined by behavior and lifestyle choices
    6. While the idea of extending telomeres to slow down aging is intriguing and based on solid scientific principles, it's important to approach it with caution. The potential for unintended consequences, such as increased cancer risk, means that much more research is required to understand the safety and effectiveness of telomere extension treatments
    7. He is right there
    8.The claim that the ketogenic diet can slow down brain aging is supported by some mechanistic insights and preliminary research, especially in animal models and specific neurological conditions. However, conclusive evidence in humans is lacking, and more research is needed to understand the long-term impacts and potential benefits of the diet on brain aging.
    9. True, lets go legumes.
    10. As many of us know, this is also true

    I got gastritis last Fall from what I suspect eating spicy pumpkin seeds on an empty stomach daily, all summer. I have been WFPB for eight years. Because of it I have had to limit much of the healthy foods because they cause gas. Because my lining was damaged, everything was causing gas. Fast forward to March I can finally introduce small amounts of lentils and kale. This all started September 1, 2023.
    Just a warning that all the spices we use being WFPB can be over done and cause issues.
    With my case I have been told because I am very thin. I had and have burning that was going into my back, shoulders, and down my arms. Very unusual I know. If it was just gas pain I could have handled this much better, but I felt the need to ice for five hours every night.
    I am getting better. Still have a slight burn and picky feeling. And this is with plant based foods that don’t tend to cause gas. I look forward to eating my full range of the WFPB diet soon!

Couldn't it be the case the meditation or praying resulted in reduced stress, reduced cortisol levels, which contributed to longevity? Maybe it's not addressed in a study, but it sounds plausible, and something that could be studied.

    But aging is not just about nutrition it is also about stress levels and long term high stress, that relaxation does obviously help with . Whether that relaxation is through meditation( which I’m not personally into) or spending time in nature/wild camping, or even an occasional calming pint of Cider in a peaceful pub. We live in a very stress filled world and stress filled lives, so it is important for those us who are extremely stressed to get some relief or we do age faster! 🌻🌎✊🏽 Dr Gregor obviously is fortunate/privileged enough to not have stress as an aging factor in his life, that good nutrition is all he needs

      @@PlantBasedPrimary I’m not saying lower stress is better for longevity than nutrition, and I’m not arguing against a WFPB diet and wouldn’t especially as I’ve been a mostly WF Vegan for 39 years. What I am saying is stress especially long term severe stress can be very detrimental to health, and if a walk in a forest or a pint of Cider now and then helps to relieve that stress then it’s got to help, it certainly helps me. 🌻🌎✊🏽

    • @Kiyarose3999
      @Kiyarose3999 3 місяці тому +1

      @@bryant475 I didn’t say he did say that, I’m just making a point that an occasional pint of Cider etc relieves stress and if a person is constantly stressed it is detrimental to health/longevity. So I’m just saying it’s not black & white that many people do suffer from extreme stress and for many years in which case there is an argument for occasional use of substances to relieve that stress. Obviously it is better to deal with the root cause of the stress if possible, or to use natural remedies such as Wild Lettuce, Valarian etc Tinctures but not everyone can afford those things, I can’t so once or twice a week I have a pint of Organic Cider in a calm environment and it helps me a lot! 🌻🌎✊🏽

    ChatGpt knows Dr Greger. I can ask it vegan recipes that respect the daily dozen principles, and it can produce that + comfirming what the daily dozen is.
    Overall i find chatgpt quite vegan friendly.

    People who consume alcohol in the blue zones, for example, live longer because of the social benefits. Drinking a glass of wine to relax with friends is more beneficial to longevity then abstaining from alcohol completely, and being alone. So I think the basis behind the question was a bit misleading. Great interview overall though!

    Prayer is a form of meditating. Nothing to do with there being a god or not.

    • @discursion
      @discursion 3 місяці тому

      How do you differentiate it from meditating? To me, a prayer is a form of contemplation that specifically expresses wishes or demands. Meditation is also a form of contemplation, but one that specifically seeks inner quietude and makes no such demand. That being said, I agree that deities don't have to be invoked in praying.

      Well, there's plenty of evidence for God, but as a Christian I also see prayer as a stress relief bc I'm casting out my stresses, fears and worry on Him :) Btw if you're interested in learning about the evidence, check out Frank Turek, Hugh Ross, William Lane Craig, J Warner Wallace, Lee Strobel- They are brilliant, and have lots of vids on here, as well as sites, books. God bless! P.S I'm an ex atheist btw, until I looked into it starting around 2018, finding those I mentioned above, and my mind was blown!

    It would be interesting to get Dr Greger's view on why we can't get _all_ our essential vitamins and minerals, for example vitamin B12, from a plant-based diet alone and without the need for supplements. Surely nature is telling us that we also require animal products from time to time, and that eliminating a whole food groups has adverse health effects. 🤔

    • @Jan-K
      @Jan-K 2 місяці тому +2

      Vitamin b12 is produced by bacteria found in soil. Before large-scale farming and pesticide use, humans and animals alike got their vitamin B12 from food grown in soil. But due to soil desertification and mineral depletion, B12 is no longer found in most of the soil that we grow our food in. livestock are often supplemented with vitamin B12 in their feed.
