  • How Not To Age is the single biggest research project Dr. Michael Greger has ever undertaken.
Go inside the chapters of this massive book and discover the secretes to aging with grace, beauty, and health in this interview on The Exam Room Podcast.
Dr. Greger shares fruits of his labor, which included more than 13 thousand references in the original work before publishers declared the book too big to publish and slashed it half.
You will reap the anti-aging benefits of the unrivaled volumes of research as he sits down with "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll.
From learning how to tap into the full age-defying potential of nutrients to the foods that speed up the aging process, Dr. Greger shares his findings for How Not To Age.
    Topics Discussed
    - How he'll release the research that was edited out of the book
    - Why polyphenols are more potent when consumed with fiber
    - Why red grapes are a better anti-aging option than green grapes
    - Why seeded grapes are a better option than seedless grapes
    - Dr. Greger's love of Asian grocery stores and their produce section
    - How salt accelerates the aging process
    - Alcohol and aging
    - An obscure study showing cola drinks are healthy and why the science is skewed
    - And more!

I will be 76 years old Dec. 29th...and i just had my yearly physical. Ive been vegan since 2015. All my blood markers were normal.....and im on no medications except B12 and vegan dha epa. I study Dr. Gregers' information daily.

We have the same birthday!!! 🎂 It’s coming up yet again. I have been dipping in and out of veganism since 2016. I’m in my late 40s now and have had a hard time and had to research a lot bc I’m allergic to soy, wheat, potatoes, peanuts and sesame. This makes it very difficult to be vegan full time BUT a great company in Colorado is now making protein crumbles made with mushrooms and peas-two ingredients Dr Greger touts in his book. So, my goal is now to go full vegan in 2024!! Happy early bday btw! 🎉

Bet you feel great too! How the energy levels, anything of complaint? Markers tells one story, feelings tells the truth. Dr. Greger looks remarkably old for his 51 years. I will take anything he says with a grain of salt. Also, I would follow those who look absolutely fantasic, do you think Dr. Saladino is 4 years younger than Dr. Greger? I would than there should be 20 years between them, and only one of them eat meat.

@Becky_Cal it really isn't difficult at all to be vegan with your restrictions. Buckwheat, (which isn't wheat) sweet potatoes which aren't potatoes, millet, brown rice, many other carbohydrates you can eat. No excuses.

@@eugenechen8240guess what? The things that you refer to with regard to the way Dr greger looks are genetic. His ancestors ate meat. His grandma is the reason he went vegan. She was sent home to die at age 65 and by going plant based she lived to be 96.

Now, as I am late to the party watching this video, I am excited to read the book (waiting for my Amazon delivery). I am 65 yrs and am dedicated to making this my year to get healthy. I always thought I was ok health wise and then I got Covid. I had all my vaccinations and boosters, but still became very sick for over 3 weeks. If I didn’t have those vaccines I would have been one in a hospital attached to a respirator. After that I kept catching everything. Was sick for over 3 months. I realized I needed to do better.

My How Not to Age books (Xmas gifts and one for us) just arrived. Thumbed through and getting ready for the deep dive.
On behalf of humanity, Michael, a heartfelt thank you. As an academic and textbook writer, I do know what is involved.
I applaud not only your meticulous research but also your exceptional capacity to translate it. You are a knowledge translator ‘par excellence’. There needs to be a Nobel prize for knowledge translation, given the heap of decades-old exceptional studies supporting vegan nutrition that fall by the wayside (yet would do more to support human health than all the drug studies put together - a travesty). They are the only organization that I know of who are diligently trying to prevent the meat & dairy industries from continuing to poison us. Poison is NOT too strong of a word. @@eugenechen8240It is NOT about 'How not to LOOK older' 🙄 It's about how not to age INTERNALLY ! Of course YOUR age (nor PHOTO ) was included in your comment 🤨 & I presume you're NOT a Physician . Since Dr.Greger went through Medical School , Internship, etc; Has a Practice; has Written many Books ( the one being discussed took him 3 YEARS ! ) Therefore, Considering ALL those impressive accomplishments, his fun, positive personality (and no doubt his massive "Net Worth") He definitely IS Extremely Good-Looking ! 👀 also, Along with his extensive knowledge of the human body, he most-likely has incredible Endurance + delightful-creativity , in the bedroom ! 😊 Aren't you glad you criticized his "Looks" ?? 🙄

@@wordgirl6267 I suspect you might want to be in that bedroom of his. Jokes aside, I watched a video when he met his number one fan and it was rare short when he actually has a substantial belly. If you watch some of the interviews you might notice his hands have huge bulging veins - a sign of aging. Regardless of his net worth or suspected internal health, his advice comes from his genuine belief. The only problems is he is mistaken and he has influenced many people, myself included. I was ex vegan of 8 years and let me tell you it won’t end well. But it seems many people are too invested in this ideology so I have advised my son to chose pharmaceutical in his university selection. He will have plenty of plant based customers and he won’t go hungry. As to myself, since you have asked, am not a doctor even though I do possess a Ph D in chemical engineering. I am doing ok and I am 55 and eating meat and animal fat only. I have a BMI of 23 and a body fat index of 15%, not the best but most people take me for early 40s. So good luck to you and thank you for your comment.

So long as you are not harming someone else (non human animals) I think it's at least not ethically wrong to cheat every so often 😊 I eat mostly whole food plant based but every so often do eat French fries and yummy beyond meat burgers and vegan ice cream 🍦☺️ on special days

35:15 that sounds like something I would say. Did chuck hear it from me? The cheapest meal is just frozen vegetables, tomato paste, some water, and italian herbs (I'm talking the green leaves - like oregano, etc.) and you got yourself a vegetable soup. I guess you can get the frozen pasta for that extra satiety - but that's a few dollars more. It's much easier to add some nutritional yeast and call it a day.

44:13 people never talk about this - but calcium is an internal sunscreen - it forms antioxidants on the skin. I would imagine blue/purple foods probably do the best to repel as well - since they reflect blue light and purple - so they might reflect the UV rays. I would imagine salt being bad for the skin. Another one that's super powerful's coq10.

His thoughts about Asian markets are interesting, but unless I missed something, he doesn’t talk about how these exotic vegetables, etc., are grown…meaning possible use of pesticides, etc. I have a Concord grape vine (with seeds) in my yard and I juice, freeze for smoothies, etc. It is such an amazing producer that I have as much as I can handle and also share with neighbors. I know those grapes are organic, and I know that grapes purchased from supermarkets are generally on the dirty dozen, so how are those lucious grapes (and veggies) in the Asian market grown? just so you know dr greger - there's tomatoes in jars that are no salt - just tomatoes - and it's practically pasta sauce. Hello from texas 👋
I have a question, what's the best way to eat for no gallbladder? And am I at a higher risk for fat deficiency? What foods do I avoid and what foods should I eat ?

    • @mattzilla331
      @mattzilla331 5 місяців тому +3

You will still be able to digest fat. Bile is made by your liver but gets stored in the gallbladder. So the bile will just drip into your intestines. Unfortunately bile is irritating and there's a lot of evidence that this increases your rate for colon cancer and probably other diseases. So to get your liver to produce less bile you need to eat low fat. And eat lots of fiber to soak up the bile dripping into your intestines. And it's impossible to not get enough fat on a plant based diet. If you're eating enough to maintain a healthy weight you will be fine. Even if you ate literally just potatoes and broccoli. Dr mcdougall had a lecture on UA-cam called the skinny on fat where he talks about this. But if you're still worried about it then add a tablespoon of flax or chia seed or 1 ounce of nuts.

    • @mattzilla331

44:13 I went to sunbaking hawaii and was in the sun all day. I wore sunscreen on all of my body except my face. I put Rachel Perry's Elastin and Collagen Firming Treatment on there - and the thing is - sometimes I forgot to wear sunscreen on my body. It didn't matter - whether or not I wore sunscreen - my body burned and the skin peeled even. Only my face that I didn't put sunscreen on didn't! I see it has marshmallow in it - so maybe that's what does the trick? There's studies that say it protects against the worst - UVA radiation. It also has "French Coneflower, Horsetail, Comfrey Root (Allantoin), Belgian Chamomile, Korean Ginseng, Bladderwrack, Linden, Ivy, Yarrow and Witch Hazel" plus algae and avocado. So there's something to it where there's edible plants that're better than sunscreen!

11:18 I really don't like Thompson green grapes. Where I get grapes with seeds is right off the plant. They grow concord grapes where I live - they taste like mangos. Wine grapes are extremely rich in color - the color goes all the way through the inside of the grape! If you can get a hold of wine grapes to eat - that's awesome! The less acidic, the better as well.

why? Just ditch the salt - it honestly doesn't need it. Salt isn't even vegan from what I heard anyway. You're likely killing all the microbes with the salt anyway - salt's antimicrobial. How are you honestly getting any fermenting going anyway? Sounds more like pickling to me.

36:18 but pasta made from green peas is similar to wheat pasta. I guess if you want 'whole wheat' the closest is buckwheat - but maybe that has little nutritional value compared to legumes. I love banza more than wheat pasta (then again I can't eat gluten much, but still).
