Thanks to this 9 year old video managed to revive our Hotpoint FFUL 1820 fridge freezer. My model had a polystyrene cover behind the plastic screw board which cane loose after the ice thawed to reveal a huge block of ice blocking the vent that takes the air upstairs. Melted the ice with a hairdryer. Cheers OP!
Mine does too and I was scared to open it , mine is on top not at the back
Thank you! You saved me from buying a new fridge freezer, I actually feel quite chuffed now. Thanks again!!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this 6 years ago! Thanks to you we now actually have somewhere to put our Xmas food shop, as our fridge stopped working this morning! So so grateful!
Woo hoo.
My lad left the freezer open overnight and the fridge packed up the next day. Thanks for taking the time to post this and help others.
Thank you !
You are welcome.
UA-cam was my last resort and this is exactly what I was hoping for. Thank You mate 👍🏻
Checked out your vid and another uk guy. Spot on, my Hotpoint problem was exactly the same as yours. To help others, don't remove the 'surface' screw, only the recessed ones, that way, the second plate stays attached to the one facing the front door. Remove them together (I didn't, then fitted it back on before install). Vidios like yours help so many people, thanks !
Just a note, my fridge freezer has been running for 11 years without this happening before. Guess it must be a slow build up of ice 🧊
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. just had the panel off and removed the iceberg! Fridge now working great on my Hotpoint FF 200 m
I was eager get a solution, you sounded tired but with a great smile still😁. I almost switched to another video when you laughed, but suddenly, the laughter began to lighten me up.
u have saved many people some cash and I hope that I will be one of these lucky ones. Defrosting has helped in the past. I have booked for a £89.99 labour only repair and I hope to fix the problem before the repair man comes to milk my pocket 😁 Thank you.
Thank you, your comment made me smile.
Thanks so much for this, sorted our fridge out 9 years later!
Tried indesit website and was a load of tripe. 10 minutes after watching your video and all is cool in our fridge freezer again. Thank you very much. You saved me a call out charge and labour on top of that as well. Top job
Thankyou so.much ....You explained so easily, I was able to understand.
I defrosted the fan.screwed the back panel back in place.
Switched on....it took a couple of hours for the freezer to be freezing again.
So relieved...saved me money..
So happy.
Thank you for this, been having this issue for a while, ice cream seemed to be mushy and well....not ice cream. Definitely felt it could be something I could do before calling someone. Thanks for your help.
Thank you so much, my fridge is now fully fixed! I was ready to buy a new one but this has saved me loads of cash! Thanks again
James Block no worries mate, it is a quick fix for what could be an expensive replacement.
Many thanks for your tip I had the same fridge freezer so it was great to watch this enabling me to do the job. As you said it was easy to do and the best part it worked. We were about to order a new fridge so I am one happy buddy. Well done again. ******
Just fixed my fridge freezer, your video was a seriously big help thank you so much. AAA+++
thank you. i love you. our fridge is fixed and we now know how to look after it.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! 😍 It seems like my fridge is back to normal! 😀 You are a lifesaver! And foodsaver 😄
I believe the ice-problem is caused by me stuffing the freezer WAY to full! A good excuse to be eating icecream this weekend 😋🍦
Thank you. You just have saved me £400 to get a new fridge.
Hi Just wanted to say a huge thank you, was all set to spend £500 on a new fridge freezer, saw your video describing the same problem I had. I now have a working machine again! cheers
Ian Butler you are welcome mate!
My fridge has been off for 2 days now, storing our food at the neighbours. I thought I would give this a go, what could go wrong 😂 and my fridge is back on. Saved my ass, absolute legend, you!
Nice one mate.I had the same problem as you stripped it down used a hair drier to defrost it. 1 hour later cold fridge again. Top man thanks.
Malcolm Hawley you are welcome glad it helped.
Many thanks - you've just saved me god knows how many gallons of soured milk and possibly the cost of an unnecessary new fridge. I'd switched it off for 2 days, no joy, not nearly enough time to thaw out the ice with the insulation in place. Great stuff
You are welcome.
Had the same issue with my Hotpoint this week. today I emptied it out and used a heat gun at a distance to warm the inside to it. no visible ice given it is frost-free, left if empty and off for a few hours and it amazingly works again. Not sure if the ice I could not see did melt, no water on the floor though?. all I know is something fixed itself.
Thank you so much for helping me make my fridge fridgey again. Like many, I'm not exactly rolling in money to say the least and your video (which, incidentally is very video-ey) has saved me years of (financey) finance especially as this is MOT week for the car too. Thank you once again.
I have MOT(ey) week too! Glad it helped.
Yey! You saved me the best part of £400, was just about to give up on my fridge freezer. The frozen section wasn't freezing, although ironically the fridge was still ok. Applied this same method and now it's ice cold. Thanks so much for sharing!
Brilliant , I was going to buy a new one tonight but thought I would look at you tube first , I will be trying this tonight .
U safe my day god bless u...after three days of warm fridge now my fridge is working like a brand new...
You are welcome. It may only be a short term fix as every few months I had to defrost it again. Have a great day.
Hi i have a hotpoint. And both the fridge n freezer no longer are cooler. Wev always had it on high setting for cooling. The freezer blows normal air but its not freezing. Any advice would be greatley appreciated.
Not all heroes wear capes! Thank you!
Thanks a ton. Worked perfectly for me! So pleased I saved £150/- call out charges for someone else to defrost my freezer? You saved the day!!
Excellent idea! I have found we had the same problem, so the fridge freezer needs defrosting.
Fridge, [Hotpoint FF 200 LP] wouldn't chill so expected to have to buy new one, {though hadn't defrosted freezer since bought it so no real surprise is it !}. Trying to avoid new purchase so searching for solutions. Found your vid' and seemed that the interior of my F/F looked similar to yours - was actually another beige cover under the white one with several push clips. Carefully removed both covers and spent several hours carefully taking ice off heat exchanger [?] and mopping up water. Spent a frustrated hour or so pressing buttons and twiddling switches waiting for it to recover but it eventually did !! Result as they say ... Takes a while for the fridge to chill as cold air on this model comes from the freezer section which is below the fridge but all working and more quietly than before. I expect that all the cracking noises that used to occur was the appliance trying to work encumbered by the ice build-up so I shall endeavour to defrost much more frequently. It makes environmental sense to look after appliances !!
- SO BIG THANKS Mr Smash :-)
Thankyou so much this is the best explanation of this problem I have found. My problems are solved without having to fork out lots of hard earned cash. Once again thanks!
David Stewart you are welcome!
I have the fridge problem. It’s the hole in the bottom of thr fridge. At one point I could stick a straw in it to get rid of the gunk. Now it’s constantly getting frozen every day. Where to I need to get at? Is it from the freezer compartment or do I take the panel off the back. I heard there might be a pipe blocked.
This video made me laugh so much, and now it's helping us fix our fridge! Thank you! :)
Sally Bridgewater glad to hear it's helping and that it also made you laugh, i'm guessing its because i have a larger than average nose.
On the contrary, it was because you have a better than average style of instructing people. :)
Sally Bridgewater and thank you again for your slightly above average user comment. ;)
Cheers mate. After watched your video I could fix my fridge!
Legend cheers for the help!
No idea if you still read these but quick question... I’ve taken the back panel off and there seems to be polystyrene as well as behind it. Is that supposed to be there?!
I have the same issue, but it keeps frosting once I defrost that area. Within 3 weeks, it becomes a block of ice with no air flow to the fridge. My model is Hotpoint H7T 911A KS H AQUA. Any help would be much appreciated.
Helpful. We had to defrost a bit to get the back cover out but we sorted it. Thanks!
Daniel Pereira da Silva glad it helped mate.
Sure did! Thanks again!
Hi, recently I bought a Hotpoint fridge freezer FFU3D W, could you tell me, please, what is that cable from left fridge door for? I couldn't take off the door because of it.
And is it normal that the outer top edge of the freezer and the inside top freezer door to heat up while the fridge is on? Thank you!
Cheers mate!!
Instead of keep defrosting a freezer that is labelled as frost free the main culprit is the heater wrapped around the freezer unit. The heater goes faulty. It’s purpose is to run once everyday and this gets rid of any ice build up ensuring it’s smooth running
Top man, thanks a million 👍
Hi I have a Hotpoint ff187e, the fridge is not producing any air and everything is warm and the freezer is still freezing, I've taken the panels off and had a look everything is clean, and the motor fan is still spinning when I left the panel off the freezer. I don't know what the problem could be?
Thanks mate it did work happy day
cheers helped me fix mine thanks a bunch
cheers mate, worked a treat :)
You are welcome.
I did this before checking you video. Mine was completely iced up. It's happened again to mine. Apparently if this happens again you need to replace the thermistor part.... can somebody clarify for me please?
Wow, Really helpful video. ♥ x
Thanks for the good video, shame after doing this mine sadly never recovered and kept the compressor on 24 hours a day,
Trying that now. I did notice more than normal ice build up in freezer and the following day fridge isn't keeping cool.
Mate! I thank you, saved me ££££! Well done
Hi I have just done this and removed the ice on my hotpoint fridge freezer but the fridge still isn't getting cold? can anyone offer any advice? Before I have to waste another £400 on a new one - I did ask hotpoint but there were not helpful as it's out of warranty
Thank you
Thank u it works
OMG! is that all I had to do last year I end up buying a brand new refrigerator freezer because the freezer would get cold but the bottom would not so my milk and eggs and everything would go bad, wish I would have known this a year ago lol.
It worked👍🏽👍🏽. Vgood. Thank you
You are welcome.
Very helpful thanks 😎
Orb8Ter no worries, enjoy your cold fridge again.
I did this this morning... Does this also have anything to do with why my lights are flashing? At the top the orange lights (or probably what technical people would call 'amber' (even though they're not yellow or amber /: )) are flashing. They've been bugging me for weeks!
I think you can reset the flashing lights by holding down the button for 5 seconds, something like that.
what screw do i need for top of my fridge door for bracket hotpoint
Jackie Cairns no idea I'm afraid. I don't have this make of fridge anymore.
I’ve defrosted it as you have and didn’t have much ice anyway but still no cool air getting up to the fridge ! Any ideas what to do next?
Mine is the same did you find a solution?
Is the fan working
I gave up in the end and sold it for parts and bought a new one!😂
@@yerwotshangingoff Lol me too...bought one off facebook bargain for £60
Thank you.
Alan Mills you are welcome.
We're is the ŕeset button on the hotpoint fridge frezzer
Exact problem I'm having, I'll try all that and see how it goes (y)
Jacquie Leel hope this helped.
After removing the bottom front grill (2 screws inside the freezer door) I found many years of fluf covering the condenser. A thorough clean and hopefully it will be back working again!
thanks for your vid it worked for my I was going to buy a new one before I watched it so thanks mate
I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes thanks again
thanks mate
Amazing video. Helped us out loads. Thanks man
Thanks buddy 2021 need a fix ask UA-cam
This is exactly the problem I've got. I think my fridge (- FF 200 L -) is a slight variant to your model, but guessing that the solution is as you've described(!). I bought it in 2010. I couldn't fathom why I could hear the right noise(!) at the back of my fridge section, yet could feel no cold air coming from the air ducts. But the freezer section was working normally. I thought that turning both fridge & freezer temp dials to their minimum settings & then pressing & holding the super cool & super freeze buttons simultaneously for a few seconds - resetting the fridge freezer - might help, but it didn't. I wondered why my milk kept smelling & tasting revolting after just 2 days in my fridge..............
My milk has being going off! Think I might have a go at the thing....my next fridge freezer will NOT be a Hotpoint
How long would you say it takes to defrost
Please how can I buy hot point fridge control board
Please u can reply on my email account johnboateng 1983@gmail.com
It looks to me that your defroster has failed.
We have the same problem. Given up now as every couple of weeks we are having to faf like this so getting a new Samsung fridge Freezer. This Hotpoint is a piece of junk... expensive junk!
Same, my hotpoint failed just after one year no defrosting, i bought a Samsung that came with 5 year warranty.
Hi.
I would like to add to your video the most important part prior to starting fiddling with your fridge.
Health and safety, diagnostics must investigate why is your fridge forming a block of ice on the evaporator.
Did you test the defrost heater.
Is the air flap mechanism working.
Not knowing the task of all components isn’t fixing the problem.
This is good for your personal learning but I wouldn’t recommend sharing with other that might get seriously heart.
Take care and remember safer above all.
Lolz I have the same problem I fix every 3 weeks nice video mate
Dadirow Mahamud cheers, had not had to do it in a while, touch wood.
I hope it will work for me
Will keep my fingers crossed for you.
We discovered that our problem with a warm fridge (the freezer section was ok) resulted from the rotating part of the motor for the evaporator fan getting a bit gunked up (after 22 years spinning within an electric field) such that sometimes the fan/motor did not start to spin (to push cooled air down into the fridge), but the fan/motor would spin if given a slight push to get it started. Sometimes it started okay on its own when the compressor started but sometimes it didn't. When the power was off, the fan/motor could be manually spun a bit, but did not spin freely. I removed the evaporator fan/motor (as per a video at ua-cam.com/video/YYVEaTJnOxA/v-deo.html) and cleaned the rotating motor component with special electrical-contact-cleaner spray to remove a black residue coating where the motor spins, until the fan/motor would manually spin freely, then reassembled. One caution is when I was putting back in one of the screws holding the motor assembly in place, I pressed a bit too hard and cracked the plastic housing, but repaired that with crazy glue.
You may need to reset your fridge from the flashing lights alarm state. Push both Fridge and Freezer buttons down and hold for 5 secs. Both lights will light up and you will hear a beep. ua-cam.com/video/vSUEMF-tAt0/v-deo.html Your fridge should be chilling again!
brill thanks. done mine. nice dog to. love boxers lol.
Stewart Bumstead no worries mate, Boxer's are the best dogs ever!
couldnt understand him
Thanks posting for this video. Doing this for the second time on my Hotpoint this evening. The first time I called out an engineer who told me exactly what you say in the video, but charged me £50 for 10 minutes of his time. It is 15 years old so not too bad, but I probably won't get a Hotpoint when it finally gives up.
Hey cutie can you come to help me fix my refrigerator?
Fair idea on what to do. Think u will be better at sign language instead 😂😂
IMG_0758.JPG
load of rubbish, doesn't tell you why there is a frost build up or how to fix the problem when it happens every couple of weeks
Thank you for your constructive feedback. Not sure what a long term solution would be as i no longer have this model of fridge.
cheers helped me fix mine thanks a bunch
