Love your video. Just found it. I am a single woman of 73 and now own a home with not man around to fix things. Your video is very encouraging. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks.
Lol thanks for giving this 60 yr old courage to give mine a try. Not my freezer freezing under cheese tray ... Pretty sure mines water line to ice maker. But not giving up going to try and figure it out❤
Just fixed mine! Took off back panel and made sure drain tubes were clear and they were. Also drain pan was dry so no water was draining from fridge. Went thru freezer took off inside panel and all frozen. Drain line was frozen too. Got a hair dryer and put on high heat or some hot water to melt ice. Well as we were doing this the drain line opened and you can hear the water draining into the bottom pan under fridge. Sounds like a brand new refrigerator! Thanks for the video! Feels good to fix yourself!
Thanks for the video. My freezer had the same problem. The drain tube was clogged. Cleaned the tube and now no ice. You saved me a service call and money. Thanks again.
Outstanding video. My problem was indeed the drain tube all mucked up. Very helpful showing the small sheet metal screw securing the tube to the underside of the refrigerator. Thanks again.
Best video I've seen so far! Very honest and upfront and showing that not everyone has a duck bill valve to deal with made it so easy to find the problem. I was able to fix the leak in my freezer in literally 15 minutes. Thank you SO much!!!
This video is spot on. What usually leads to this is your freezer being over filled. There are vents at the top and bottom of the back for air flow. When the freezer is too full, that air doesn’t flow properly and increases the moisture build up that leads to freezing.
I love that you are not afraid to explore and find the cause and fix it. Most people are too scared to even try. If you don't try then you have already failed...Great job..:)
This was the best video I found on a leaking freezer (better than the so-called professional versions). I followed your recommendations and 5 days later no water in the freezer, or on the floor. I had a clog in the drain tube just like your described. I have subscribed to ChickFix USA and will use your site routinely for the headaches that occur as a homeowner! Thank you for your videos! They are fantastic!
Looks identical to mine. Coils would freeze up, water would freeze in drainage hole. One more thing that I found on UA-cam is to hang a 12 gauge bare copper wire from black heater tube and let it extend down into the hole. Keeps water from freezing in the hole. That’s been several years ago and no problems since. You did an awesome video. Sure saves money on those 100 dollar service calls! UA-cam is my go to place before calling service people. Replaced my ice maker that way also. Only 3 screws and unplug a connector.
thanks for the information I recently just got a 13 years I believed Kenmore side by side refrigerator working again not to much trouble but anyway had the same problem ice building on the bottom of the freezer so I took everything out and apart and yes notice the drain plug was frozen over so what I did I got the ice out of the shelf but I poured hot water in the drain pan into the drain plug plus used a very small screw driver and got all of the ice out of it plus ran several cups of hot water into the drain and the water went straight through and have monitor it since then and no frozen water I believed this problem came from when the refrigerator would not go into defrost mode or cycle and that problem has been fix also but anyway thanks for the information
This problem has been driving us nuts for years. Thanks a ton for your advice! Extremely helpful! Also, if you’re not a Texan, at least you have the right ice cream!
You have a new fan. I was having the same issue where ice would accumulate at the bottom of the freezer. Not anymore 😀 Thanks to you I went to the back of the fridge and removed the drain pipe. Sure enough it was full of crud and it was not allowing the water to flow through. I flushed it out, replaced, & no more ice build up. 👏 thanks again for saving hundreds on a service call.
Thank you So Much!!! The drain tube was clogged. I used the vacuum, and it's all good now! Saved a chunk of money w/out having to call a service tech. YAY! ~Johnny
This is great video with easy to follow steps and resolved my Kenmore refrigerator forming ice at the bottom due to water 6:15 drain pipe clog. Thank you so much for recording and sharing it 🙏
I appreciate that you were upfront about how your first attempt was unsuccessful. It seems as though every DIY video I've ever seen (whatever the issue is) was fixed correctly the first time, every time, which is intimidating for a viewer like me. You are keeping it real, thanks! You've earned a new subscriber!
Totally agree! I always try to fix things first before calling someone in, and it is usually a bunch of trial and error and eventually finding some weird bit of plastic in the basement that just happens to do the trick on an old appliance. I have friends and neighbours who marvel at my "handiness" and I have to laugh. It's all youtube and not wanting to spend money if I don't have to.
This... this is so doable. I've been dealing with this on our Whirlpool for about 2 years. I know,, should have looked into the DIY for this sooner. Thank you so much for the thorough tutorial and troubleshooting! :)
Thank you for this video. We followed your directions and fixed the same problem in our Whirlpool fridge. Save us not having to call in a professional!
From a dude ... Had to repair my GE side by side refrigerator; replaced defrost heater, thermostat, temperature probe, all of which failed or were about to. Works great now EXCEPT for the drainage issue you dealt with. Gotta attend to this one final fix. Thanks for shedding some light on this particular problem and solution. Cheers!❤
You rock! My drain line was plugged with a frozen blueberry, and then I used your other video for resetting the icemaker by pulling down the clutch lever to fix my crushed-ice-only problem. Thank you!
Girl you rock! Common sense solves most issues … I have never been afraid to ponder and try to fix things as a mother of five and single ive learned MUCH… thank you for sharing this valuable info OBVIOUSLY THE OTHERS LIVING HERE ARENT CONCERNED 😩
So glad I saw this, fixed the problem in 10 minutes. Tube had about 2” of blackish gunk which cleaned out at the sink. A little scotch tape around the 1/4” driver to hold the hex screw helped me one hand that back in without dropping it. A magnetic driver would have done the same but mine was not. Thanks again!
How did you become so handy it’s very rare to see a lady do something you would think a man should do. Girl power at its best 😊thank you for sharing this video with us here on UA-cam
I subscribed. Thank you! I have this issue for an embarrassingly long time. I never learned to fix anything. I am a single homeowner and money is tight. Sometimes I think I had no business buying a house. Lol. I have to call someone to do EVERYTHING which you know is expensive. Watching your videos is inspiring to me! Even when you don’t know exactly how to fix it when you start, you are smart enough to figure it out without messing it up. Lol. A lot of people I watch either make me think it’s more complicated than I can handle or they don’t know what they’re doing and it turns into a funny video because they just make it worse. 😂 Anyway, I’m now going to be able to fix my fridge and probably a lot of other issues around here. You literally made a huge difference in my life with this channel. Thank you so much!
I'm so glad you find my channel helpful! Most basic repairs around the house are not complicated as they seem. My rule of thumb is that if they sell it at Home Depot or Lowe's, you can do it yourself. Sometimes, you will need to hire a pro, or course, but many things are strait forward if you just have a little bit of guidance.
BEST VIDEO EVER!!!!! I really liked how you went from one option on to another until you pin pointed the problem in that curved drain pipe. I really enjoyed this video, and yes, my freezer is doing the same thing!!!!! I just laid a towel out flat under the entire front of my fridge!!!! I have so many projects going, but will look to see if I can find that drain pipe!!!!!
All the refrigerator warnings were cracking my mom up. Lol. Thanks for the video! I’m totally new to home fixes/improvements and it gave me confidence to just try some things until I get it right.
This worked well for me. It was a blocked hose which takes water down from the freezer. I removed the blockage, defroze the water outlet and it worked well. Thanks so much
You've earned another subscriber with this video. 90% of search results were about frost buildup. I'm definitely pulling my fridge out TODAY to take care of this problem we've had for months. Thank you!
I honestly will try this, already cleaned behind the refrigerator and vacuumed all the dust from the back. Now this seems more logical to solve my problem, thank God I don't have to purchase the Amazon item, thanks for your confidence and making repairs.
Love your comment about southern women , duct tape & zip ties. My freezer had been doing the same for months and will try fixing it today. I’m a 69 y/o southern woman who has no problem trying to fix things herself. Thanks for the video.
I am so glad you posted this fix! my fridge is having the exact problem. Taking the weekend to get it repaired and back in good shape while all my guys are off hunting! 😁💪
You can do anything when you are alone and the dictatorship is out and about. When there's no fear you can do anything. I fixed my stove by watching a video to replace the oven ignitor. Piece of cake.
Wonderful video! I think this is my freezer's problem too. I love your presentation where you go through the thinking process/troubleshooting. Your shot angles are also great. Thank you so much for this video!
Great video! I had difficulty finding a video or information that addressed this problem- kept running into information regarding outside air getting in. At first, I thought it was the gaskets. When I finally found your video it was easy to address the problem. Thank you for sharing, appreciate you!
Been having this issue in my freezer for while. Even replaced the door Gasket thinking it was a seal issue for like $200 🤦🏼♂️ going to be attempting this fix this week. Thanks for the info, great video.
It looks like you live my life and I'm so glad because I'm tired of having a towel in front of my freezer... Am going to give this a go in the next couple of days - thanks!
We've been having this problem as well. Serviceman came out showed me there was ice on the bottom and once a week I would remove the ice. But sometimes the water would run out onto the floor anyway. I was afraid my husband or I wouldn't see the water on the floor and slip and fall. So happy to see a video on this and have a solution to the problem. Thank you so much.
Thanks for posting, I think I saved about $200? I had a Kenmore, looked exactly like the unit in your video. Cleaned the black stuff out of the pipe, just need to let it run a couple of days to check for puddles!
From England, that has helped heaps! Thanks for those tips. I'll now attack my freezer with more confidence of a satisfying outcome. Thanks again, and give your wonderful retriever a hug from this old limey dog lover.
THANK YOU! mine was a fridgadare. same ice cube in bottom though. i ended up taking the hose off in the back of freezer, using blow dryer for 20 seconds inside in the drain hole, then a shop vac to suck melted water, then do it again for 5 to 6 times. afterwards i put shopvac hose in back where hose hooks, turn it on and have wife pour very hot water. worked good.
Okay, you just earned me forever on youtube. I have had a fridge filled with icy freezer and was peeing on the floor. I just did this from your video (mind you I’m fully dumb when it comes to fixing anything) I did this and mine was disgusting. Just cleaned it off and am defrosting everything! I hope this fixed the problem but regardless it was sooooo icky it has to be the problem!💓 thanks so much!!!
I'm so glad this helped! It does sound like that was the problem. Just FYI, this can also be a problem with air conditioners as well: the condensation line gets clogged, causing water to puddle all over the place.
Thank you! I really appreciate the information, pouring a little hot water before the bit of bleach definitely cleared the line without taking apart the back. I used a dryer vent cleaning hose on a shop vac. Fit the drain well enough.
Love it!Good detective work! I am on my second thawing ,3 years apart, The up and down kills my old knees and wrists! The first thaw took days and was 'hell like' to thaw and remove, Sad to say. Any way just wanted to say "You go" Never stop! Good Job! I love it.
Wow, I have been dealing with that ICE build up for years, I recently had to order a EF motor, once that comes in I am going to spin the fridge around and clean that hose, I am sure that most be my problem too, great video....
Wow im going to have to try this! Great video. At least once a week we get the dreaded puddle in front of freezer due to sheet of ice freezing at the bottom.
Thank you, accessed the pipe from the rear panel on ours. I yanked it out and it was clogged with crud. Just blew it out and replaced, hope it works. Thank you so much!
I know this was posted about a year ago. However I just wanted to let you know that I looked at your video after a few others and actually coming from a woman I found it more helpful. I had the same exact issue today and boy did your video came in handy, work like a charm. Same problem with mine as yours. Thank you so much appreciate your video. I'm going to subscribe so I hope you make more. 😀 Stay Blessed😌🙏
Thank so much! I rent and I have this same problem. We don't call the landlord for things like this we just fix it. Or I should say I the wife fixes it... I love it too. So satisfying 😌
Thanks for your video. I couldn't figure out where my drain hole was and it wasn't until I saw your video that I realised it was clearly visible inside the rear panel of the freezer. But after I took the inside rear panel off I saw the drain hole was covered in two inches of ice. You have to remove everything from the freezer and take off a few screws but this should be your first port of call before messing around behind the refrigerator.
Great video. I could not get anything to snake through the drain because it made a tight loop seal and blowing did not work. I ended up stuffing a tygon tube up the end where the drip pan is and it made a pretty tight seal. I then vacuumed out a big slug/plug of something and that was it. This worked great because the mess ended up in my shopvac and with the clear tubing I could see the plug as it went through to the vacuum. Very satisfying! Thanks for the video.
Once I viewed your ENTIRE video (...twice!) - it was Easy-Peezy! Thank you for such a complete and easy to follow "quick-fix." (New Subscriber... XOXOXO)
Thank you thank you thank you😊 I had exactly the same problem and was so worry that I have to buy a new refrigerator 😢but by watching your video I was able to Fix the problem 😊so again thank you so very much it was a great big help😊
Thanks for educating the community and appreciate your volunteering and thanks to your team Please keep posting all small repairs that one can do at home All tips u learned in life Tha❤❤❤❤❤nks ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Not the same problem, I just like watching you’re videos. You’re ingenuity is very inspiring. I tore my freezer apart when I had a similar issue, what a mess, at least it was in my garage.😊
Thank you for your help. I have been dealing with this problem for years. It just started with the big ice slick on the bottom. I will clean all of the areas and hopefully it will fix it.
My fridge looks nearly identical and had the same drain clogged. I just fixed it today, I hope it does the trick. But it felt great to just take care of it myself and not keep waiting for Mr “I’ll get to it”
I love that you showed your failure as well as your success. Love your golden retriever too.
Love your video. Just found it. I am a single woman of 73 and now own a home with not man around to fix things. Your video is very encouraging. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks.

I'm so glad it helped! Yes it definitely feels good to be able to do something like that yourself. I'm glad you tried (and succeeded)!
I was having the same problem, followed your lead, thank you so much my dear, IT WORKED! 66 yr old woman 💪, feeling accomplished thank God
My wife would be so proud to know I learned how to fix our fridge from a smart capable woman on UA-cam. Should I tell her though…. 😊
Yes, you should 😍
Nah....
Wouldn't be proud of you simping

My freezer started having this issue! Gonna crack 'er open and clear out the drain! Great video!
Thanks for watching and commenting! Best of luck on this project.

Glad it helped!
Awesome! I googled up this video when my fridge had the same issue and cleaning out the drain worked like a charm. Thanks a billion for the vid.
So glad it helped!
Fantastic video. Really helpful and to the point. You saved our family some money my friend. Thanks so much from the Pacific Northwest!
Thought it was my ice maker dripping down the back wall until I watched this video. Cleared the drain and works great now. Thanks Thanks
This is great video with easy to follow steps and resolved my Kenmore refrigerator forming ice at the bottom due to water 6:15 drain pipe clog. Thank you so much for recording and sharing it 🙏
I just resolved our ice-at-the-bottom of our freezer. You were spot on! Thank you.
Saw several other videos but they didn’t help. Found yours and this is exactly what my problem was. Thank you so much!

No frozen puddle after 1 day!

ChickFix, after watching your video I too was able to clean out my clogged freezer.. very simple. Thank you!
This worked well for me. It was a blocked hose which takes water down from the freezer. I removed the blockage, defroze the water outlet and it worked well. Thanks so much
Respect to this cute, smart and handy Southern woman! Thanks for the amazing and illustrative video!!
Thank you so much! Saved me the trouble of removing the back panel in the freezer. My drain line was plugged like yours.

Thank you so much for this video!
great video. better than my solution to simply put a kitchen towel on the bottom to freeze with the water and make ice removal easier
Unclogging the drain pipe actually fixed the problem with my freezer. Thank you so much!!!😊😊😊
Great video !! Just cleaned the ice out of the bottom of mine again tonight. I will be pulling that panel off this week. Thanks !!!😊
Great video! I had difficulty finding a video or information that addressed this problem- kept running into information regarding outside air getting in. At first, I thought it was the gaskets. Mine is doing the same thing. Thanks to your video I'm going home tonight to attempt to get the drain line off and cleaned! Very useful video!!
Best of luck!
Another satisfied viewer! I was able to resolve our problem. It was driving us crazy!
Thank you!!!! We just took our drain out and it was clogged! Fingers crossed our days of randomly stepping in water are over!!!
Hi from England! admire anyone going to the trouble you have and not giving up. love your personality too. You have some skills there girl!
Your the Best!!! So very Helpful!!! and also added a lot of Cheer and Inspiration!!! Thanks a Million!!!!!
Thank you! Your video was great. I was able to follow along and fixed my freezer. It was a job I kept putting off until I stumbled upon your video.
I'm so glad it helped!
Thanks for posting, I think I saved about $200? I had a Kenmore, looked exactly like the unit in your video. Cleaned the black stuff out of the pipe, just need to let it run a couple of days to check for puddles!
Hope that fixed the problem!
From England, that has helped heaps! Thanks for those tips. I'll now attack my freezer with more confidence of a satisfying outcome. Thanks again, and give your wonderful retriever a hug from this old limey dog lover.

This helped us so much. Thank you!!!!! Our drain tube was hard to get out but we did it....and it was plugged up! Yuck!
I did this and it worked. Lady, you rock.
Thank you for this video this will help me with our issue!

I had the same exact issue today and boy did your video came in handy, work like a charm.

Thank you for your help. I have been dealing with this problem for years. It just started with the big ice slick on the bottom. I will clean all of the areas and hopefully it will fix it.
Fixed the issue within minutes. Thanks!-
My fridge looks nearly identical and had the same drain clogged. I just fixed it today, I hope it does the trick. But it felt great to just take care of it myself and not keep waiting for Mr “I’ll get to it”
It's definitely a feeling of accomplishment!
