  • My frost free upright freezer was struggling to get before -5C. Here is a fix, now easily goes down to -24C. I nearly bought a new one instead. I was thinking that frost free freezers couldn’t ice up and hence never need defrosting. I was wrong. Defrosting was the fix but it needed some dismantling and a couple of days. If it’s more than that like it needs regassing then see other videos for that, there are already a few.

    I like your old school attitude and understanding to make things work again , it's far better than another tip run and £700 or more to replace .

      You could try the nearest parts dealer for that brand of freezer, or an online one

    Hello I hope someone can help, I have a Whirlpool fridge freezer, freezer section is good (cold as it should be) fridge section temp control is set to 2c but it doesn’t get to that, temp hovers around 5-6c, no ice on coils, damper vent works it opens and closes, no dirt on condenser coils, something is telling the camper door to close early. Would anyone know what I can check, Fridge is cold but not cold enough.
    Thanks

      Sorry not sure but 5C is ok for a fridge, that is the default setting for my samsung fridge freezer. If it gets too close to 0C you risk bursting liquid bottles that freeze.

    Can it ice or just cold

    • @comeinhandynow
      @comeinhandynow  Рік тому

      A freezer should be at about -18C so yes it makes ice. This freezer worked at that temperature after fixing.

    Hi i hope u answer my question fastt
    Yesterday i scraped ice and frost off my freezer with a dull butter knife and now it is not cooling properly... Do you think i did something wrong or like it had something to do with it..?

    • @comeinhandynow
      @comeinhandynow  2 місяці тому

      Do you think you punctured anything? Is the compressor running (making a noise)? Do the cooling pipes inside the freezer feel cold when it is running? In general you should just open the door with it turned off to defrost it rather than scrapping and potentially damaging it.

      @@comeinhandynow thank you for the quick reply but no I didn't interfere with it much I just gently tried to scrape the ice that has been accumulating inside but couldn't turn the whole fridge off because my mom is a homebaker and some of her things were in the lower section of the fridge ...

      Modern fridge or freezer systems are sealed for life ,they should never need re gassing. It's bound to be a leak of they do .
      A frost free model will never need a manual defrost .there is a heater to defrost the evaporator ..
      Most likely the auto defrost circuit has failed .
      A manual defrost will work for a week or two and ice up again.

    • @comeinhandynow
      @comeinhandynow  Рік тому

      @Dash Cam If you look at the video the heated pipe had shifted a bit, allowing ice to build up and then accumulate, eventually blocking it up and stopping all air flow.
      Fixed as in the video. Also there is no “auto defrost circuit” on this model, the defrost pipe is part of the normal system pipe plumbing, just hotter. The source of the problem was a shifted pipe, it was put back so problem should not recur.
