You make food into art. That is more a gift than it is a skill. The albacore tuna truly showcased your exquisite artistry (considering how exhausted you were). The terakihi…who knows how to elevate and transform steamed fish into delicate, richly spiced and beautifully presented fare?
Only in the hands of an Artist can food become such masterpieces.

Albies. Long fins. Burros(as in donkeys) Shiro maguro(white tuna). Albacore, baby. Best tasting sashimi, u can find. Better than blue fin by far. We used to catch em 18 to 45 pounders back in da 80's, out of Ensenada, Baja California, Mex. Lousy road conditions, banditos, policia, federales all made for quite a road trip from L.A. Nothing like freshly caught albacore. Had many all u can eat sushi parties. MIL used to make the best sushi rice. Everybody made their own sushi cones. What fun! Sapporo beers. Hai.

Man the fat content on the NZ alb is pretty low. I recently saw one from Japan that was even lower in fat. And of course the Hawaiian/south pacific albacore is terribly lean.
CA albacore may as well be a different species. This fish gets such a bad rap because it's rare to find a full fat fish like we get in California. Japan occasionally gets them -- they're called bin-toro and are pretty prized. But most albacore around the world is low fat and not great. California albacore, rich with fat, ranks among the best fish on Earth.

Taku, here's my trick I do for letting line out quickly and more accurately.
Every 50 ft I put a bobber stopper knot so I can just let out instead of counting the pulls. So you get to the 3rd knot you know your exactly 150 ft back without having to count pulls, and not everyone pulls the same or do the same consistent pull length.
I got tired of counting 50+ pulls. It also helps when landing the fish because once you get to the 50 ft knot you know, don't have to guess how far the fish is out still. You could use line counter reels but I hate how bulky they are.

Love me some Albacore. Rather eat them than Bluefin, tbh. Though I might be biased because I can catch them here and not BFT. lol
That is a really small one, even by Oregon standards. I think Japan gets them at the largest scale, up to around 50lbs. They make a big ass loop and at the end they spawn and are at their largest size.
Edit: Current all-tackle world record is 88lbs in the Canary Islands in 1977. That's a big Alby!

When you bleed it brother you put the knife Behind the pectoral fin, for best results. Then put it into a salt ice slurry. Respect The fish you lost wasn't a kingfish, but was a kahawai. Named by our Maori people. Kaha= strong, Wai = water, so Strong in the water, is kahawai. I still have no idea why Japanese chefs, take off the head, then gut and wash the fish, then take a fillet off each side. What a waste of time
