Chef Taku, hey, my name is Pitch and I’m from Fleming Island Florida. I believe that those fish that you were calling Kingfish in New Zealand and you stated that they are the same as a yellowtail. They look like amberjack, but I believe they are the same as a yellow jack in the Atlantic. I love your channel! Keep the content coming!!! V/r Pitch
Taku…. I have been a loyal viewer since the beginning. I remember when you were trying to balance your full time job as a sushi chef and trying to teach your viewers on how to poke pole for Monkey Fish Eels and when to harvest mussels. I have watched your channel grow 10 fold!! Now you are almost a million subscribers!! I love your mix of fishing and cooking. Happy Holidays Taku and Jocelyn!
Love how the captain showed you how its done. Him and his first mate seemed very knowledgable and helpful. Jocelyn did great, glad she didnt hand it over to you.
I have met this dude and Jocelyn a few times now being from the bay (San Mateo) . Dude knows so many people and each time I see him he calls me by name and says hello. Hella respect brotha really enjoy seeing your content and me being a chef as well use a lot of his products and I must say are better than most out there. Merry Christmas 🎄
You know what i've been watching your videos since your channel only had less than 10 videos, back then i was still a international student here in NZ and had nothing fun to do so just started fishing as a hobby,. And now, i've been working full time for 5 years, watching your videos that you are actually here in New Zealand really makes me feel wow time flies. All the best and keep producing good content mate !!!
Kia ora guys. Your close to where i go for kingi's. I always go just off White Island or off the north side of Whale Island. Good yellowfin tuna fishing there normally from end of January through to end of Febuary when they're around. Jocelyn, you got to feel what a 30+kg kingi's power feels like. Dont worry, its like that for most people when they first feel that awesome freight train power they have. They tow your line down into the rocks and next thing you know, snap!!!!! Taku always love your ideas and prep for the catch. Wonderful looking dishes. Well done guys. Great content as always.
I smiled the entire video. Absolutely love the community support. Taku you make a difference in so many ways and please do more of these amazing projects. Just beautiful to watch and witness.
Love it. Awesome stuff Taku. Not sure your skipper knows how experienced your are but great job humbling 👍🏼. Bloody good skipper though so credit to him knowing his stuff. Your chief skills are what I love in how you prep and display such the blessing of seafood. Great work team ❤
Happy New Year Taku and Jocelyn 🎉. Beautiful sea scapes today! Awesome atch out there. Sorry you lost your fosh Jocelyn, youll get one next time👍. Yummy food coming your way when Taku is cooking😊. I love the collars, you don't find them here in VT😢. I guess its ti.e to start traveling again🤭. No snow for Christmas boo Mother Nature 😡. You guys are in the right place for Christmas 🎄. JO JO IN VT 💞
My favorite part of your videos is the cooking portion. Love listening to the music you pick while you cook. No tunes on this one, but still all good. Keep the content coming. Ever thought about fishing off the coast of South Africa?
as you learned with the humble kahawai, dont underestimate how tasty the bait it! i hope you got a chance to eat one of those Koheru live baits, they are amazing sashimi... i believe they are in the tuna family.
they are a type of Jack/Horse Mackerel/Scad, they aren't actually Mackerel though they are more closely related to Trevally/Jacks (in the same family Carangidae) so the closest thing they would be related to in NZ would be Silver Trevally and i guess Kingfish are also a relative of theirs
Beautiful fish and awesome preparation, you really honored that catch to the fullest! We don’t have yellowtail here, but we will get it one day! Aloha from Hawaii 🤙🏻
Taku, I've been here since 40k subs, I don't eat sea food but you're the reason why I salivate to sea food so I know i would love i, but only if prepped by YOU! Spot me my ticket and I'll be the best guest! don't have the 8K on hand gotta save everything for my soon to be son!
Big fan!! Best catch and cook out there. Are you planning any hunt and cook in the future? Would love to see your cuisine skills on some venison or wild boars. Would be amazing to see a collab of “outdoor chef life”and “deer meat for dinner.”
The red snapper or soldierfish is called mempachi (the Japanese word) in Hawaiʻi. I remember as a kid we used to be able to go at night when there was a run of the fish and catch them from the shore or a pier, and then the adults would fry them up on a campfire or the next day at home. Love the crispy skin! In this video, I also enjoyed watching your fileting skills as usual and your creative sashimi plating. Looks so ʻono (oishisō)!
although they look similar they aren't the same fish or even related for that matter, the fish they get in Hawaii are in the family Holocentridae, the fish they got in this vid that they refer to as golden snapper are from the family Berycidae, this one in perticular is what we refer in Australia as a Nannygai or more specifically an Eastern Nannygai, they are endemic to Southern/eastern Australia and New Zealand, we also get their cousin Bight Redfish that are native to South Australia and just like the golden snapper they have razor sharp gills, they also have sharp scales as well
Your fine lady was trying to winch in the big King. That of course is very difficult/impossible to do. The guy intermittently lifting and lowering the rod should have explained that all she needed to do was stop reeling while he lifted, then reel to pick up slack while the rod is lowering.
good morning chef, I have been following your videos for a long time and they have taught me a lot, but I would have a request regarding fish, if there is any mention of it in any tutorial, how long do you keep fish in professional fridges and at what temperature to serve sushi to people .can you do a tutorial thank you very much
Justa suggestion for next fish & salad video. Instead of sesame, EVOO or vegetable oil, try searching out macadamia oil? Haven't had the chance to " taste test" my dishes but have heard it's healthier/tastier addition than EVOO. Bigger, more abundant blessings in 2024....A-L-O-H-A Kalikimaka/Hau'oli Makahiki Hou, OCL/TTW
Those Kingfishe look like what we down in south Florida call amber jack aka reef donkeys ours tend to have worms not a terrible fish to eat but we usually smoke them biy do they fight
So you made your own Ponzu with the soy and orange juice??? Thought you might have more seaweed there for salads!? Great looking dishes! Sashimi makes my mouth water! Keep up these great vids!!
So are use actually back here in Nz or is this old. Getting confused. Love the fact that use are here though and enjoying every single bit of my beautiful country. Nga Mihi.
I think it was a shark. They tightened the drag too much out too much heat on the fish and the line broke. Loan the drag of he wants to run let him run until he gets tired then bring him in
Sorry, didn’t get to finish. Hamachi collars, salad, all with a spicy citrus twist! All while realizing it’s summer down under. Just shocked he didn’t do rice.
Been a long time fan for sure! Love what you put out there and the positivity. But really feeling this lately, so much trash posting on stories. OCL, Taklyn, have seen it on Dwights page too. It feels alienating to the followers who trust you for good content. Why do the 95% of good followers have to suffer for the actions of the bad 5%? I sympathize completely, people can suck sometimes but I'm positive no one wants to get regular updates on it at all. Just my feedback. Hope for good things in 2024.
love Taku and his content but have an honest question because I don't want to research it. Does the length of ads have to do with youtube or content creator. There are now several 1 minute long ads. Would rather pay the content creator directly vs listen to the incessant long ads, sick of youtube. If it is the content creator as much as I love Taku might have to reconsider. His channel and simple living alaska are and udonsoba are the only 3 channels I watch.

Looks amazing! Crazy that there’s summer produce but makes sense.
Why because it’s summer.😂

How do you travel with your equipment?
Did I hear a cuckoo clock?? When he was cleaning the grill?? 😂😂
Hey Taku, is Laoganma Spicy Chili Crisp the only Chili crisp at Walmart?
Taku do you have any recommendations for transporting fish internationally to keep it fresh / not have issues in customs?
Bro where can I get a filet knife like that one you filet that king fish out with???
There’s 2 things you don’t take on a boat , bananas , and your wife 😂
That shirt at the end. What shirt is that and where can I buy? The crab and fish on that shirt is Dope AF!
hey bro dont u have a code for fishing clash ?
i was wincing each time that rod looked like it was going to break
Taku ,question do you not have a home in cali bro ?

That was a disappointment promise to taku, they couldn’t keep their promise. Taku deserves to take on that last fish.
#firstdrink Love it!!!

What happen to you guys eating the sashimi ????? Hmmm
Torpedoes are designed from tuna shape
Dude on the far right only ate like 2 bites of that dish. Looks like he didn't like it.
He said he doesn't eat Fish,so he did okay.
Yep. Agreed. Would like to hear what others think of takus cooking, not taku himself
