Hi Aubrey, thanks for the question. This is a very different type of sweetness. The maple has a sugary sweetness to it where this has a caramel mint sweetness. The maple is more intense though. Being twice barreled this also has some more oak influence as well so it depends on what you like.
That sounds amazing and I don't even like peppermint patties all that much. Also, just as a heads up, your graphic at 3:05 with the whiskey overview listed "MSRP" as "MSPR."
Haha. Yeah Peppermint patties. Good stuff. Yeah I caught that on the graphic after it was posted. Unfortunately can't fix it🙄. Thanks for watching buddy.
@@WhiskeyQuests Well if it helps, Pikesville has a richer flavor profile. 10 pts higher ABV and a superb finish. This Knob Creek is sweeter, very oak forward and drinks more like a bourbon on the first few sips before becoming more of a sweeter rye. For me if it was my last 50 bucks I would go Pikesville, but if you like oak forward and sweeter ryes then the KC is for you my friend.
I agree this was a great review of the Knob Creek Barreled Rye. The baking spices, caramel, and York Peppermint Patty notes sound really delicious. I'll be picking one up. Cheers!
If I can find this in my area, I think I have a Christmas present for bigdog who really likes ryes. It sounds like it might be able to go head to head with High West's Mid-Winter's Nights Dram. Another informative and fun review.
Great review in this new KC Rye. I would not of just picked this up but now I’ll be looking for one. Sounds like a great holiday/winter dram to warm up by the fire!
Hey, Jason, GO BUCKS ( via NJ) from Atlanta, I have been looking for this in GA since it came out - no luck! I was in Columbus, MS - yah - Mississippi - this week-end. And thing of all things: I found it! Right there on the shelf in all its glory - AND NOT AT AN ALLOCATED PRICE!!! I enjoyed the very smoooothe rye tip, palate and finish. I will ask my future son-in law pilot who is stationed at Columbus AFB, MS, to buy me several more (with reimbursement). Cheers! Have you ever been to the Varsity Club? Cliff L. (I don't mind saying what the 'L' stands for: it's Lash. Nice reviews.
Great review as always, crazy how some secondary barreling can really influence a whiskey. This one really sounds fantastic, loved the notes you mentioned. Really seems like it drank more like a bourbon than a rye. Great review as always buddy! Cheers
Just picked this one up yesterday. Very prominent toasted oak, baking spices, licorice and caramel. I like it. Looking forward to trying some more Ryes.
Bought some this week. The VFM (value for money) is high. Beautiful whiskey. I pulled the trigger based partly on this review and it did not disappoint. Btw my wax held up too😃
Glad you enjoyed it. Definitly on the sweeter side but a solid and flavorful rye,. Its pretty good mixed in a cocktail too. LOL.sometimes you need goggles to open a Knob Creek. Cheers!
Great review! As was the case when our local (sizable) liquor venue in south central IN sold the Jim Beam Repeal Batch for $10! New offer for the Knob Creek Twice Barreled....$16.99!!! Crazy!
Me too! Its really delicious. Maybe a great alternative to the hard to find Michter's toasted rye. I was wondering what the flavor on this Knob Creek would be at barrel strength! Cheers and glad you enjoyed this.
Tend to trust your reviews little more than some other channels I watch. Watched this episode and then tried this RYE and thought it was pretty damn good specially that it's 32$ on sale at costco. Some other channels had it as bland or no taste at all. I thought it was very flavorful.
@themashanddrum, Thanks for the review, Jason. Upon your recommendation, I just picked up a bottle of this Twice Barreled rye yesterday. The silkiness is just as you described. It's a delicious and unique sipper, and I look forward to trying it in an Old Fashioned. Cheers! 🥃
Great overview. Will keep an eye out for it. I’ve spent some time with the KC CS Rye recently & gotta say it’s a little disappointing. Great nose, decent taste, but the finish for me is short and falls flat. For $50 I’d be ok with it, but this is marketed as a premium release with a much higher price tag, I won’t be replacing with so many other quality bottles available. I enjoyed the Single Barrel much more. Cheers J!
I would agree Fisky. The Cask Strength is enjoyable but don't think its worth the 70-80 dollar price tag now that Ive sipped on it a good amount. The single barrels are well worth it and only 4 points lower in ABV than the CS. This twice barreled rye is really interesting and has some strong flavors. Hope you get one. Cheers!
Nice! Here in March 2024 I just saw this in a local store for 70.00 bucks! Might go back and get it! Cheers
I've been on a huge charred, twice barreled kick lately. How would you compare this with the Michters Toasted Barrel Rye?
It’s hard for me to go anywhere but Pikesville, but the way you’ve described this, I’ll be grabbing some to try out. Thanks!
Great review!
The sweetness of this twice barreled knob creek rye the same as the Smoked maple?
whats the comparison?
Thanks
Aubrey

Which way might you lean, this or Pikesville?
Pikesville definitely

I’ve been enjoying Rye whiskies more and more. And I definitely enjoy York chocolate. I’ll keep an eye out for this.
Its got great flavor. 100 proof is nice too. hope you find one. Its a really interesting rye. Cheers buddy!
The Mash and Drum if I find this I’ll have a tough decision to make. Knob or Pikesville 🤔

Thanks Keith! Lets do a LIVE soon.

Thanks Birddog. Not as fruity as the MWND but definitely has alot of flavor. Cheers buddy and hope you find one.
Great review as always! I have not seen this on the shelves in California yet. I will definitely pick up a bottle when I find one.
Thanks Jon! Would definitely pick this up. Unique rye. Cheers!

Definitely a great dram for the winter. Hope you enjoy it! Cheers buddy!
great review! knob creek keeps putting some good juice! thanks for keeping me up to date.
Glad to do it. This is great for anyone who likes a sweeter rye. Cheers!

Yes I have been to the varsity club and to a couple bucks games. I love it. Cheers and hope you enjoy the knob Creek. Go BUCKS

It does drink like a bourbon at first. Once you keep sipping on it the rye flavors become more forward. Its great stuff!
Awesome review. Great info, and straight forward. Keep up the great work..... 👍🏻🥃
Thanks Ernie! appreciate you watching!

Looks like my shopping list keeps growing

My wife just picked me up a bottle of this, it's pretty uncommon around here so I had to see what it's about.

Good to see you got the NR Rye Batch #1 and the signed whiskey club BiB. Keep the great reviews coming Jason!
Thanks buddy! I'm looking forward to trying the rye from NR. Thanks for the kind words.
Great review Jason! I almost will pick this one up when I see it. Sounds like one for the holiday season (or any season😁) cheers brother
Yeah pretty much any season lol. Really good flavors in here. Let me know what you think when you try it! Cheers bro
Everything I feel about this you put into words. I hope they keep this around.
