I have had a Knob Creek rye that I picked up once in Washington State, and I liked it... I never heard of the expression that you have, but I think I'd like it going by your description.
Awesome review Jon....I typically really enjoy Knob Creek and think that they are underrated but I have yet to try any of their ryes. I typically like more bourbon forward ryes so I think I would enjoy this. Thanks for the great review.
Thanks, always enjoy sharing a few thoughts! As a Rye fan, this isn't high on my "true rye" list. Not clean and grassy enough. However, those are the traits many do not enjoy, so this would appeal to more Bourbon fans. I think anyway. Not as loud as their single barrels though. Love those bottles!!
Very close to their bourbon, that's what I detected. Same water, same wood for their barrels, same grains. Just a slight variation in grain percentages from their bourbon.
Excellent review Jon. Early on I think I judged wild turkey 81 rye a bit to harsh because it was too sweet and not spicy enough. But since then I’ve learned to embrace it and see how each bottle can be different. So I would love to try this one. Sounds delicious cheers 🥃
Jon, not had this yet. Nice review. May have a whirl at it. Rye's are hit and miss for me...not really fond of the grassy note. Sagamore, Sazerac, Old Forrester are more my type of rye. Any other suggestions here would be appreciated.
Neighbor Jon - I really enjoyed the review, and would love to try the Twice Barreled Rye. It's priced locally at $61.99 - Waiting for lower prices, or an opportunity at a pour. The two 26 degree lows did in fact happen on Wednesday and Thursday! Back to 70 today 😅 Hope it's a great weekend for you!!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Okra was inside, but out enjoying the sunshine this afternoon. Just a hassle to juggle....but will be worth it. 2nd year going w/ variety "Jing Orange". Seems to enjoy the dry heat.
i felt the same about their regular straight rye. to me, it tasted more like a high rye bourbon. i haven't tried this one yet because in my area it runs just below $50 and for $5 more i just can't resist laphroaig 10. another great review, thank you
Another impeccable review💯
Too kind! I liked this one though

It becomes less Rye and a bit more Bourbon, but nice oak.

Nice review Jon! I'll have to check that one out. I've tried the Bulleit Rye in the past and enjoyed that very much.
This is much sweeter! Not near as much pepper as Bulleit.

Agree, a little more oak here then the standard KC, but not a ton of pepper or grassy Rye notes. I liked it though.
I'm generally a Knob Creek fan, but I've never had any of their rye. I'd imagine I'd probably enjoy it though. Cheers Jon.
I believe you would recognize it immediately. Very KC IMO. This one is less "rye" more oak and sweet

It's good, but certainly not a typical black pepper Rye! Cheers 🥃🥃

Woodford Reserve Rye is deeper, less grassy then most Ryes. Less spice than Saz though. Might be worth a try!
@@WhiskyNeighbour thanks for the recommendation. 👍
Jon, is this something you’d buy again today if you saw it sitting on a shelf collecting dust for $50?
@chargerguy74 hmm. Yes, I think so. It's been a while, but it was good and offers a lot for that price.
@ thanks for the reply. I think I will give it a try.

Oooooh, that is cold for you. Wow. Were your okra seeds outside, or started in the house?

Laphroaig 10 is certainly better IMO! That said, this is not bad. Lots of oak, if a little sweet.
Ha ha fun times
Definitely. A good Saturday adventure
