Hey guys, I drove to Kentucky yesterday mainly to stop by Wilderness Trail and pick up the 8 year wheat which was released yesterday. (Outstanding by the way). I was only 50 minutes from Glenn's Creek so I headed over. You guys were not lying, very friendly and the bourbon was fantastic. Ended up picking up and OCD and Swheat and their Rye was also fantastic. The nice lady in the tasting room/gift shop/phone booth told me they had received over 20 visitors thanks to this video and almost everyone ended up buying. Nice job turning us on to a hidden gem and supporting a small very cool distillery.
With the exception of Trenton's blasphemous statement on Reese's PB cups, this was a great video. Love learning about craft places I might never have otherwise heard about.
Hi guys, thanks for the great review. We enjoyed your visit as well. Clarification on a few things- The Cuervito Vivo is 70% corn, 20% rye and 10% barley and the upside down ! is the way the Spanish speakers do. When you end a statement with ! then there is an upside down one at the beginning. Maybe it prepares you to be amazed by the statement. OCD is about 85, 10, 5. I say about because it is rounded to the nearest 50 lb bag. On the A-maize-ing C.O.B- it is a bourbon, not a corn whiskey. Corn whiskey can't touch charred wood, and the other whiskeys MUST touch charred wood. The COB was aged in a charred and toasted barrel thus it is bourbon. There is no max amount of corn for bourbon, only a minimum. Regarding comments from viewers (and others) about letting things get older- well we keep increasing production so we CAN let barrels age more, but people keep buying it all! We are just getting into product from a big volume increase so hopefully some can age longer. Bottom line though- we won't put it in a bottle if we don't think it is ready. We are not doing it because we need the sales. We do it because if it tastes good why not bottle it? We use 53 gallon barrels. We tried some smaller ones and there was not much difference in time, but the cost was way more. You guys did a great job remembering the many things we covered when you were here. Thanks again.
Wish they would of also mentioned how veteren friendly you are. You all are amazing there.
David, we visited this past weekend and were astounded by your process and care for craftsmanship. You are truly revolutionizing distilling and aging in my opinion. Truly a wealth of knowledge your facility is, and I still have questions I could ask you all day long about your processes. Cheers man keep it up, you’ve definitely earned a repeat, local customer here!
@@eliwilson8242 Hi Eli, I am glad you enjoyed your visit with us. We love telling people who are interested about our process and products. You are welcome back any time!
I live 5 miles from this distillery. Agree it is a great hidden gem. David a wonderful host and source of expert level knowledge of distilling. Alternate OCD definition (From David): Obsessive Compulsive Distiller.
Just got back from 5 days in Louisville and stopped in to Glenn’s Creek on the way back home to Virginia. I would have never known what I was missing without you guys spreading the good word on this hidden gem of a distillery!
David was on vacation so we didn’t get the full experience but I did a little tasting with 3 of my really good friends who joined me on this trip… and it was incredible. I can’t tell you about all we got to taste but I will say … it was our LUCKY day. One of the highlights of the trip!
I want to thank you for this review. I've been fascinated with this distillery for quite a while. I've shunned away from it due to having no reference and my perceived age/price disparity. No, it's not cheap. After this review, I purchased a bottle of OCD #5. It is scrumptious. So rich and sweet, a bit of custard, a hint of leather, RICH caramel, but dark. Reminds me of some Double Oaks I've had. I need to move this to the back of my cabinet so I'm not draining $70 bottles.
Glenns Creek is one of the best distillery experiences you can have. At first glance, you might be tempted to turn around. The Old Crow Distillery is so dilapidated, it looks like something out of "The Walking Dead." There are no plush leather chairs, no fancy glasses, no chocolates. Heck, they don't even have indoor bathrooms (no joke). What they do have are Dave and John, who are a joy to meet and spend time with, and some truly unique, hand-crafted spirits. Warning - their bourbons DO NOT taste like those at the big distilleries. They know this, and when folks walk in and ask to buy a bottle, they always offer to tell them about their products first and encourage them to try a few. Tip - if you buy a bottle there, pay the extra money and get something hand-filtered! That barrel char floating around in the bottle DOES make it taste richer!
You guys have some great bottles there. I have Cuervito at home and my friends have Cafe Ole. You should take a water dropper and drop a few drops into Cafe and it will totally blow you away. The flavors will change from sip to sip. My favorite distillery.
In Spanish the exclamation mark and question mark go at the beginning and end of the sentence. The ones at the the beginning are upside down which is why the exclamation mark was upside down on the Cuervito Vivo bottle
Great video! I visited Glenn's Creek last year as a side thought when I toured Castle & Key and it was an outstanding experience. Being a history nut, I picked up a bottle of the Cuervito Vivo which they said was their attempt to recreate the original Old Crow from the 19th century. This was supposed to be the favorite bourbon of General Grant, so I had to have some. I really enjoyed it. The OCD #5 was great also. It is hard to believe they get such great flavors out of whiskey this young. I would really love to try some in the 6 to 8 year range if they ever age any that long.
Just tried Glenn's Creek Stave & Barrel single barrel - barrel strength. Absolutely phenomenal! Thanks for the review and recommendation. I may not have given this distillery a look otherwise.
Great price point also. $39
I was able to visit Glenns Creek and they were really nice folks. I tasted three of these and chose the Cafe Ole to purchase. I have tried the Hard Truth Rye that Trent mentions and I like the Cafe Ole a bit more. Even if you are a bourbon fan, the distillery is worth the visit to check out their other spirits. (BTW as if 7/27 they had 4 employees!)
Buckie here - Great video as always, gentlemen! I am so glad you enjoyed the experience. I knew without a doubt you all would and had to make it happen. Their was no puffery in this video, unfortunately 😂
Omg I cannot believe you all mentioned the hot dog water cocktail I recommended! IT HAS TO HAPPEN NOW!! 😅😂
Glad you chimed in, GC is a great story and distillery.
Great show as always! When Trent has his first taste of corn and crab bisque, he will definitely change his opinion of cream corn!
OCD#5. I love that stuff. Can get it in WI. Been to the distillery. Met the owner. Great story teller. He even signed all the bottles I bought…which was just cool.
Toured these guys early last year and it was a wonderful and intimate experience.
I'd searched for the most non-corporate distillery tour and EVERYONE was mentioning them.
I agree with Kurt 100%. Stop here. The guys are old school and straight shooters and you'll have a great time.
Kurt/Trent - Did they have you guys try the Hamilton Smoke?
It's a smoked bourbon and I brought that bottle home because it was so interesting.
So glad we visited Glen's Creek after our tour at Castle and key when we were there late June. I immediately purchased one of their honey finished bottles after tasting it was something I was looking for in Kentucky and it was by far the best one I've tried. Can't wait to set up a tour the next time we're in the area.
I had to go back and revisit this video and wish I could give it a second thumbs. I was able to get to WI yesterday and lo and behold, found the OCD #5. It is certainly one intriguing and interesting bourbon! I get different notes with each sniff or sip. I look forward to enjoying this bottle in the weeks/months to come, provided I can nurse it that long!
"Hand tasted" got me picturing Robin Williams on Mork & Mindy drinking by sticking his finger in the glass.
Typically with Trent’s silliness I just laugh and think “silly Trent…” the Reece’s comment crossed the line that you can’t come back from
I love both chocolate and peanut butter, but Reese’s peanut butter cups are ghastly: lousy chocolate and crappy peanut butter. Sorry!
I don’t like chocolate, love peanut butter, and will devour Reece’s
Just make your own with your favorite PB and some high quality chocolate. Blows that mass produced crap out of the water.
@@kevinconnolly8784I've had "gourmet" peanut butter cups many times. Reeses blows them out of the water every time.
@@mdiggleragree! Reese’s didn’t become the best candy bar ever because they suck
To answer your question Trent, in spanish when a sentence (or in this case word) has an exclamation mark, you initiate your sentence with that upside down exclamation mark. Doesn't mean it's double excitement just sentence structure. Cuervo vivo means "The crow lives!"
Trenton trying to do math is very entertaining… one might say meme worthy!
it took that dude way too long to realize 45 mos is almost 4 years..
One of the coolest parts of the story at Glenn's Creek was that he climbed into one of the old vats and was able to recover one of the yeast strains that was probably used with old crow.
Ha ha I didn't have to climb in. I lowered a bucket of mash into the fermenter #5. Heck that thing is 20 ft deep!
@@davidmeier1811 Loved my visit with you earlier this year and the whiskey just as much. Thanks for your efforts!!!
Fish sticks and cream corn used to be a staple diner for us in the winter.
You guys are amazing, thank you again for bringing distilleries no one has heard of to life
You guys are awesome. Love watching your channel. We were in the Makers Mark/Castle and Key area last week and we took your recommendation and stopped at Glenn's Creek for a tasting. Holy smokes they are all so good. We came home with a bottle of OCD#5.
Just picked my first bottle of OCD #5 for $64. Extremely unique to say the least. Unreal nose and taste. Aged 55mo and 106 proof. Bottle 13 Barrel 12. Big chocolate nose. Ton of full flavor.
My son and I stopped in back in May of 2019. Same day we did the historical tour at Castle & Key. I still have a cask strength 375ml Cafe Ole bottle #15 from Barrel #2 unopened. I keep it as a memory of a great trip.
What a great insight into a distillery I didn’t know about. Thanks guys!
You guys are the best! Thank you for these informative and entertaining videos!
Great video! I live in Lexington, and had never heard of this distillery. Definitely making a stop next time I'm near Frankfort.
We were there yesterday. Picked up the ODC 5, A-Maising COB and Hamilton Dark. All good stuff!
I totally agree in the Reece’s. Chocolate and peanut butter is great. Put them together they’re great. But when is the last time you opened a peanut butter jar that looked like the inside of a Reese’s! You’d throw it away! So thank you
I was in Kentucky a few years ago, asked our hotel bartender what his favorite spot was and he said Glenn Creek! Told us it’s castle & key on a budget. Same story…rebuilding an old distillery only his budget is way smaller. Couldn’t stop taking about how nice David is and how he will just stop working and take you on a tour. Wanted to stop by but ran out of time. Now I’m really regretting it
This is a new distillery to me, too, but it sounds great. I'm putting on my list of must-trys. Thanks guys. Trenton, I have a story similar to your creamed corn experience. My mom sat me in front of a plate of picked beets and told me I couldn't get up until I finished them. I sat there for a while without eating, so she came in and mashed them with a fork, which, trust me, didn't help. After what seemed like hours, she gave up and let me go. I still won't touch a beet to this day. 😄
If you liked that 100% corn whiskey, you need to get your hands on the ASW Syncopation!! Very limited but amazing. 100% malted corn unlike anything I’ve ever tried!
I just got home from a day trip up to Kentucky. It's nice to live close enough to do that. By your recommendation I stopped in at Glenn's Creek. I mentioned I learned of the place from "a couple guys I watch on UA-cam". I guess they don't get a lot of UA-camrs because the lady there replied they still had bottles from the same barrels you guys tasted. I tried Cuervito Vivo, OCD, and Cafe Ole. I liked the Cuervito Vivo best and brought that home with me. Stopped in at Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, Castle & Key and Wild Turkey as well.
I love these kinds of craft spirits. Glenn's Creek sounds awesome.
I will definitely try to get my hands on some of those bottles. I do have a suggestion for you to try on maybe a future video. Dettling Bottled in Bond (orange label) has quickly become one of my go to bottles. I love the videos and appreciate the father/son bond!
We just stopped at this place while in the area also. Very cool place and spirits! Really liked the Cafe Ole
Awesome Show. Love the content. Thanks!
The only multi-barrel blend that Glenn's Creek does is only available occasionally. From what I remember, he takes the last 5% or so (dregs) of the OCD barrels and collects it/blends it over time until he has enough to bottle a few so he only has it every so often. I have one such bottle. It's one of the most complex bourbons I've ever tasted. It's deeper/darker than OCD with more notes from the char (dark chocolate, molasses). This is what a small distiller is all about and why I focus on them whenever I've touring. Great job SLB is highlighting a small guy doing it right. However, I can't believe you didn't comment on the "puffery". I found the whole story they tell on labeling standards (or lack there of) to be really informative for newbies.
Happy birthday Rebecca🎉. Glens Creek makes me appreciate small distilleries. I picked up the rye and it is delicious
So excited to see you guys discover Glenns Creek! Easily my favorite distillery to visit. Cranky Dave is the absolute best!
A little different, a lot better!
And the much less pretentious atmosphere is very refreshing when hopping from distillery to distillery that look like high end horse farms...
Went here last year. LOVED the juice and the spooky buildings.
We just picked up a bottle of the OCD 5 at the distillery today. Sipping on it now. It is great and an awesome product from a small distillery.
Glad you guys went out there. Very cool place and cool guys
Gotta be on the lookout for this in Wisconsin.
Kurt and Trenton go American Gothic! LMAO!!!
OMG, Reeses Peanut Butter cups is ambrosia, nectar of the gods.
Stopped by this distillery last year after castle and key and was pretty impressed. Picked up sunglasses, a t shirt, and a bottle of the ocd#5 and the mellow corn one.
Greatness. Love Glenn’s Creek. Picked up a bottle of OCD last year. Can’t wait to go back.
Always great to stumble onto these kinds of finds. Nice !
Best 100% corn whiskey - Balcones Baby Blue...Trust me !!
Trenton if you go to any old school steakhouse - creamed corn is a staple..
"One barrel a day', that answers my question about why I don't see it 🙂
One of the employees roasts coffee and uses the barrels for aging the beans. Amazing and is available online.
Really enjoy your shows.
You guys should try either the True Blue or Baby Blue from Balcones. They're great 100%corn bottles. Also, their Texas Pot Still Bourbon and their 100% Rye are very unique bottles and would be a good taste test with their amazing American Single Malt to round it out. Cheers!
This distillery was featured on an episode of moonshiners tv show. Good one to check out. Could also maybe combine the pepper and corn together and recreate the Mexican sweet corn cocktail
I am way out here in Arizona, but checked out their website and found they had bourbon barrel roasted coffee. They roast fresh and free shipping so I got me a bag to try. Local roasters charge more than they do for whiskey barrel roasted coffee so I hope it is good. May not get to try their bourbon, but at least I can try coffee with a hint of they flavor.
Sometimes I mute the audio and see if I can pick up Kurt's tasting notes just by watching his hand movements.
Hot dog water cocktail options - perhaps like a "dirty" martini, garnish with cocktail wiener &/or cocktail onion...or a crispy piece of bacon; the only other thing I could think of Trenton sorta mentioned....like kitchen sink Bloody Mary. I can't think of many things that would go with the salty porky flavored water. Good luck!
The creamed corn discussion reminds me of this coffee drink by Jeffrey Morgenthaler called "sweet corn milk iced coffee". He uses "sweet corn cream style" blended with condensed milk to make a syrup with a distinct corn flavor. The drink is just that mixed with cold brew and optionally some rum. So you can definitely make drinks with creamed corn!
Visited Glenns Creek last year and they have some interesting spirits. Was a little put off by the general customer experience (we got stuck in traffic and arrived for our tour and tasting just as the door closed behind the last member in what would have been our group) and they wouldn't let us join and made our group of 6 do a tasting standing in the entry hallway. It was about 95* degrees, no place to sit, standing elbow to elbow, and the person at the counter didn't have much info beyond the quick scripted description and was just trying to rush us through it because we were taking up the whole entry area. The price for every bottle was a little on the high side as well (I get the higher proof and being craft), but interesting history and some bottles worth tasting at least. If we'd gotten there 2 minutes sooner that day I suspect I'd have a different view. I'm interested to see where things go for them in a few years as they settle in more!
The cuervito vivo would go great added or replacing mellow corn in you street corn cocktail
I have not been there but I have tried all but the tall bottle. Cafè Ole and Ryesky are my favorites.
planning a trip to Lexington next week and adding a visit to my list
I’m a huge Glenn’s Creek fanboy, thanks for doing this vid!!
Read about the resurrection of the Old Crow distillery and the back story, but not really much about their current status so...thanks for the informative update! Sounds like an interesting place worth the time. Pot stills do offer some opportunities to produce some very unique products. produce
I'll be at both WR and Castle and Key this week and will add Glenn's Creek to our visits. Thanks!
Absolutely do. It is seconds away from Castle and Key. Such a fantastic place
Funny, just went there over Memorial Day Weekend and loved the tasting with the Owner. Really loved the history and the taste of the OCD#5.
Was just there 3 weeks ago. Did a tasting and bought a couple bottles. Cafe Ole is excellent. OCD #5 was little disappointing based on the hype but still good. Cuervito Vivo was excellent. Very small tasting area if you just stop by without doing tour. They are right next to Castle & Key one of the nicest distilleries.
I'm on holidays, and right on time!
Cheers from the Prairies of Canada! 🥃🇨🇦
Glenn creek is probably my top 3 whiskey! When I saw SLB went there I was pumped for this video!
Evan what you recently bought will BE your TOP 1 bourbon!
Been drinking Glenn's Creek for years definitely unknown, it's always a stop for me when going to Castle and Key. Btw next time you guys are down there stop by The Stave restaurant right down the road, great bourbon selection and food.
Trent mentioning how it was odd that Kurt liked the coffee note but doesn't like coffee caught my attention.
I absolutely hate black licorice but have a store pic of Wilderness Trail family reserve that has a distinct black licorice note to it.
It is currently the most coveted bottle in my cabinet and one that I'm very sad is almost empty.
I now actively seek out other Bourbons that have that licorice note.
I should mention that I also hate other liquors that tastes like black licorice.
The Wilderness Trail store pick has a very subtle note at the end or I'd probably hate it instead of loving the way it blends with the other notes.
You might like Drambuie (quite sweet).
OCD #5 is insanely good. I haven’t had the others yet. Dusty old crow is the best. I opened a Chessman at my wedding reception
I'm starting to wonder about Trentons palate! No burgers, Reeves, hot cocoa or Hard Truths Chocolate malt?!!😂
Great video guys.
Spanish uses an inverted exclamation point (or question mark) at the beginning and a regular mark at the end of a word or phrase.
Happy birthday, Rebecca! 🎉🎂
I have the Old 55 100% sweet corn and really like will have to try and find this one
Just went to Glen’s Creek yesterday. We got to try the same barrel of OCD you had and the next barrel was even better.
I have started some research on Amburana wood. It's amazing how fast they can modify a spirit.
Love Glenn’s Creek! We are going to Kentucky at the end of September and plan a stop there to pick up some OCD #5!!
Great show. The upside down exclamation mark is used in written Spanish at the front of a sentence with the right-side up exclamation mark at the end of the sentence. Maybe a road trip to Frankfort eould be nice.
OCD #5 purchased today! 105.4 proof. Looking forward to it
Nice place I was there many many years ago when it was old crow with my grandmother and again when they reopened I have a few bottles of batch two and batch one little young on the age statement? But they are heading in a good direction
OCD is supposed to be using the Old Crow yeast, which is harvested from the OG Distillery.
I knew I'd heard of Glen's Creek, but I couldn't think where. And then it hit me - on *Moonshiners* , one of my favorite shows, Tim Smith visited the distillery when he was researching the origin of sour mash distilling. 🙂
13:28 In Spanish, there's an initial punctuation to indicate at the beginning of the sentence whether it's an exclamation or a question: *¡Viva Zapata! ¿Pero dónde está Zapata?*
16:57 Kurt, have you ever tried Baby Blue or True Blue from Balcones Distilling? They're the same juice, but at different ages, and the mash bill is 100% roasted Texas blue corn. Even the Baby Blue, which is only like two years old, drinks like a bourbon - it's *delicious* . Balcones also toasts their barrels before charring them.
20:10 Creamed corn is good. 🌽
I have been going there for years, glad you found it but was hoping to keep it a secret.

Interesting video buddies! I have never even heard of this distillery!
Many years ago I was fortunate enough to find my favorite bourbon of all time, Door Knocker Barrel VIII, thanks to the knowledgeable guidance of Jerry at Louisville’s #TasteFineWinesandBourbon. Unfortunately I foolishly only bought one and, since it has since gone out of stock, I’ve been searching for a new ‘find’. Your review of Glenn’s Creek peaked my interest, and I was lucky enough to have a friend visiting Louisville who found both the Stave and Barrel and OCD#5 at the Lexington KY Liquor Barn. Both are outstanding sips, but OCD#5 is absolutely unique, rich and caramel-forward. Thank you for the timely recommendation.
I will be Frankfort next week...I now have a new destination on my to do list!!!
The next time you guys visit Woodford County KY. swing by and let’s do some bourbon tasting at my bourbon bar. 5 minutes from Woodford Reserve, Castle & Key, & Glenns Creek, and 10 minutes to Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey.
Also, you guys didn’t mention that Glenn's Creek was able to revive the original Old Crow yeast that was left in the abandoned fermenter before they took over the distillery. Really cool distillery too many miss when doing the Bourbon Trail here in Kentucky. Plus how many distilleries do you visit that the master distiller is the guy who greats you, shows you around, and sells you fantastic bourbon all in one stop? Great review.
Every passing day, I am thinking more and more: I need to get my butt to Kentucky.
Happy Birthday Rebecca for Friday 🎉🎉🎉
I'm just here for Trent's tasting notes...If Willa Wonka had made sharpie ink.😁 Never heard of this distillery. Thanks for the info fellas.
Visited Glenns Creek when I was in Kentucky. I break out with the OCD or Sweat when I want to have a nice cigar.
