I've never had the Wild Turkey 101 rye as it's not available over here, I may have to seek out a bottle now though cuz it's one I've been wanting to try for a long time! The Knob Creek Rye is always just solid. Great review Jason!
I just bought a bottle of the Knob Creek Rye based on it's Bourbon Nights Rye flight fight and the Knob Creek won. So i've just tried it and must say loved it. So it's cool to see your Double Bass review where you picked the Knob Creek as well. Enjoyed the review. Keep the Double Bass reviews going so much better when you're not biased in any way.
Excellent match up Jason. Love both of those ryes!! Sip them both and use them in cocktails as well. Just did the K.C. in a Black Manhattan with Amaro instead of vermouth and black walnut bitters. It was amazing. I'm doing an experiment right now and have the WT101 Rye finishing in a 3 liter cask that held rum previously. I've been tasting every week and it is taking on a whole new character. Batch should be ready in about a month or so. Can't wait to do my own blind when it's done. Cheers!!
Loving this series and going blind made it that much better! I like my ryes the same way as you. I like to see those citrus notes pop with an ample amount of spice throughout. Great review, Jason! Cheers 🥃
Jason, This format continues to be a favorite = kindalike a "twofer" review with all those details. A scotch Double Bass next sounds very interesting. Keep them coming!!
Thanks man, I really enjoyed that video. I just picked up a bottle of KC and had the same experience you did. I don't have the 2nd bottle to compare it to but I will be enjoying this bottle I just bought for as long as it lasts. I buy stuff to drink it, not to keep it, if you know what I mean. Cheers
That was awesome! Even tho i am not drinking at the moment, your descriptions so matched my experiences with both whiskies that i was able to pick which one was which just from your descriptions.
Knob Creek Small Batch 100 proof is my current favorite at $35. BevMo has a Knob Creek Barrel Select at 115 proof for close to the same price at $50. I think I might try that. Pretty much my ceiling. I’m not into hundred dollar plus bottles of snob booze. Lotsa nice sippin whiskey out there for a reasonable price IMHO. Love the one you’re with...sez I.
Jason, You let me down 🤣. Just kidding. I am a wild Turkey Fan for sure. However Nothing beats a Good Honest Review. Well done. Can we maybe get a match up of all Angel envy? Blessings from Gettysburg.
A great addition to the point system would be to add a decimal. 2 vs 3 or 2.2 vs 3.7 seems to help define the interval better rather than a whole number jump
I have had some really great KC store pick single barrel ryes as well as bourbons. The store pick KCs have quickly became some of my favorite bang for your buck sippers.
@@TheMashandDrum same here. 14-15 year old fantastic bourbons for less than $50. I really hope the rumors that the KC barrel select programs are going away are completely false.
The Mash and Drum makes perfect sense, I appreciate the way you kind of paint a picture of flavors. Black licorice jelly beans, 🤮, but I might be able to enjoy the flavor of a black licorice twizzler.
Ha! I guessed correctly. Wild Turkey 81 was my first Rye and i didn’t like it but only because it wasn’t delivering a good amount of spicy flavors. I’ll definitely give NK a try. Cheers man
Only because the finish was the only thing inconsistent. The front and mid palate stayed sweet and oaky. The finish is the only thing that went away. Sometimes the whole experience doesn't stay the same. With the 101 it was just the finish. Surprised me alot.
Thank you, I enjoyed the review - the format and the two bottles being compared. One thought about the format: IMHO it was a bit confusing to have the bottles on either side, all the while it was meant for us not to know which glass is which. Perhaps have them somewhere in a corner of the table, to the side of you? Or even completely off the table and just edit them in as "picture in picture" (sorry I don't know video editing terms). On the other hand, as a viewer I would prefer to see on the score board which glass is which, without waiting for the end (I would still be compelled to watch to find out the total scores). And ideally the test should be double-blind where you don't even have to shuffle the glasses and someone else pouring and labeling the stickers :) Other than that I really appreciated the info. I just bought the WT101Rye (haven't opened it yet) and was already considering getting the KC before your video :) Thumbs-up.
Thanks Alex. I already thought about taking the bottles off or moving them during editing. As far as the scoreboard I want to keep everyone in suspense like I am. Lol. Glad you picked up a bottle. Definitely do a side by side and see if you get anything similar. Cheers and thanks for the feedback.
@@TheMashandDrum it's your channel, I don't mean to pressure. But I am not looking for suspense, looking for information. It's hard to keep track and pay attention with just "A" and "B". Suspense is in the results - ratings, it's still there. Just thinking out loud here, not criticizing :)
Knob Creek Rye is usually more than 50% higher priced than the Wild Turkey Rye, which means if you want to sample the Rye taste, budget wise you might as well buy the Wild Turkey version and/or get the 375ml bottle of Knob Creek Rye. I think people will try either bottle, but the majority will go back to their standard bourbon that they like if they are not into the Rye flavor.
I tested both ryes last night and felt knob Creek out gunned wild turkey. Didn't do my test blind but it was fairly obv that I enjoyed kc over the turkey. That said, old Forester rye dunks on them both.
Price in OR Apr 20 KC Rye $35 fifth, WT 101 Rye 1Liter $28, 1 pt in a subjective blind is really a tie, on price and cocktail quality WT101 id the winner. End stop
I have no horse in this race, not even a frequent rye drinker but you seemed to ding one for consistency and finish for the same reason? Not even sure what consistency means. Aroma and flavor should be weighted higher than consistency in my opinion. Enjoyed the blind comparison no matter how you scored it, I would just never make a purchase decision based on consistency.
I agree with everything but I don’t get the oak on the wild Turkey 101.. Haven’t had the knob creek but that wild Turkey 101 rye really goes down super smooth..And doesn’t taste it’s proof
Can't sleep. So you're it. If the WT finish "just went away," as you describe it, it probably should have gotten a 2 in that category for a 2 point difference in the whiskies. 0 should equal bad, 1 = flawed, 2 = neutral or unremarkable, 3 = OK or average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent. See! You post to insomniacs and you're gonna take some guff. Cheers.
While I like your videos and appreciate your detailed impressions, I find it hard to believe that you don’t know which whiskey is in each glass. Any person with an eye for detail would be able to tell by watching you move those glasses around which whiskey was where. It would be more believe able if you were blindfolded and back turned and had someone else pour and mix the glasses. 😊
I only keep one bottle of Rye on hand at any time and it is usually Wild Turkey 101 Rye. It cant be beat for the flavor and price point.
Love the Double Bass vids, Jason! This was a great one! Cheers brother

Outstanding sir! I like Wild Turkey but have not yet tried the Knob Creek...but thanks to your show I will!
Great review, love the series! I have a suggestion. Wheater Challenge
Larceny vs Weller Special Reserve
Cheers 🥃
Throw Maker's in there too

Rum finished ryes are pretty delicious. Send me a sample of that!
These double bass vids are great. Looking forward to the scotches.
Thanks Jason. Have not ventured into Rye territory yet but both sound interesting. Cheers

Jason great head to head, I plan on starting my journey into rye with Knob Creek! From what you have said don't think I will be disappointed.
Good deal Guy
I don't understand why you docked the WT101 on consistency as it appears to have not changed from beginning to end with the short finish.
Love Knob Creek Rye I have a store pick that's just wonderful.
Never had the KC Rye but the WT 101Rye is my go to, its excellent but am a WT fan so might be a bit biased !
Great review. I tried the Knob Creek Rye last weekend and liked it quite a bit. UA-cam obviously stalking me and then recommended your video.
Jason, This format continues to be a favorite = kindalike a "twofer" review with all those details. A scotch Double Bass next sounds very interesting. Keep them coming!!
Great video! How about WT Rye vs Green River Rye? I'd be interested.
Nice review Jason. I really like the Knob Creek Rye.
Terrific head to head! I'd buy both of them if I could find them... I can get Beam rye and WT 81 rye, but not the KC or the 101.
Thanks man, I really enjoyed that video. I just picked up a bottle of KC and had the same experience you did. Glad you decided to do this blind. Nice work!
Thanks Donut!
Just found your channel. Very informative. Thanks for the Knob Creek/Wild Turkey Rye comparison.
in terms of price, wild turkey beats hands down i guess
It's the people you share it with... So true. Keep up the good work.
Jason, loved this review but I'm one who would prefer to know which bottle you are tasting up front. Otherwise fantastic!

I'd like to thank Rebecca Paige for the suggestion and Jason for making it happen.
Thanks again!
Just got 2 new riff single barrel ryes that were there club exclusive need to try it them soon.
Those are very good. I was able to have a sip of one at the distillery. Intense rye flavor and sweetness.
Just bought knob creek rye since I didn't have a rye on hand. Watched your video to see what I was in for.
Great review!!

Aye love knob creek rye yum yummy.
Just picked up a bottle of Knob Creek Rye over Wild Turkey 101 Rye because it was $15 cheaper. I feel better about my purchase now lol
Great video!
One can't go wrong with either rye and fairly affordable
I have had some really great KC store pick single barrel ryes as well as bourbons. The store pick KCs have quickly became some of my favorite bang for your buck sippers.
Couldn't agree more. I just picked up a 14 year old pick for 40 bucks. Nothing much better than that for the money.
@@TheMashandDrum same here. 14-15 year old fantastic bourbons for less than $50. I really hope the rumors that the KC barrel select programs are going away are completely false.
When you say you get some licorice notes, are you talking black licorice or another flavor?
Black licorice. Black licorice twizzlers if that makes sense. Lol
The Mash and Drum makes perfect sense, I appreciate the way you kind of paint a picture of flavors. Black licorice jelly beans, 🤮, but I might be able to enjoy the flavor of a black licorice twizzler.

I've got a new excuse for drinking too much... I'm just evaluating the "consistency!"
You dinged glass B on the finish, and then dinged the finish again on its consistency. I would argue that it stayed very consistent.
Only because the finish was the only thing inconsistent. The front and mid palate stayed sweet and oaky. The finish is the only thing that went away. Sometimes the whole experience doesn't stay the same. With the 101 it was just the finish. Surprised me alot.
Sounds like it would be a good experiment to blend them to get try and get the best of both. Probably doesn't work that way 😜
sometimes it does. Lol

it would be heaven if you had a separate channel for cigars, its not a saturated topic like whiskey is.
