I am begging people to understand that the reason negative feelings cause long term health problems is because they are avoiding feeling and processing those feelings
I'm not a religious person, but one of the things I like about the bible is that the first step to casting out demons is to name the demon, and make it show it's face. Traumas, and negative feelings, and pain and all these things we could call "demons" lose 90% of their power once they are brought out into the open in some form or another. Avoidance and denial are what give these things power over you.
The predominant cause of mental health challenges affecting a significant portion of the population is the reliance on a hierarchical system of subordination. This structure has diverted individuals from their evolutionary path of survival, relegating them to a state of dependency. Consequently, this compels individuals to embrace a distorted view of reality, one that emphasizes the quest for emotional gratification or happiness at the expense of survival. Such a mindset significantly obstructs their capacity for both mental and physical development, contributing to the precarious state of humanity, which is now facing the threat of extinction.
My first time therapist told me that the reason people chose to bully me was because of law of attraction , devastated me and I shut down , never been to one since , I’m so glad you are speaking up on this new age nonsense
Thought I was the only one, my therapist said the reason some guys threw a jaw breaker at my head was because they may liked me and why can't I get used to the idea of someone liking me, like huhhhhhhh???????
Indeed, I'd argue that anger, sadness, fear, and the emotional states they create can be destructive to us but ultimately are inevitable and even necessary for us to function, let alone grow as people.
@Canoby Trooo. A lot of the positive and productive choices I've made in life is because I was depressed, dissatisfied or generally unhappy with how my life was going. The difference is in whether you accept what your feeling as valid emotions and motivation, or if you think they're bad.
Some emotions (like anger for example) are often perceived negatively, but what people often forget is that every emotion has a purpose. But, the act of suppressing them is precisely what causes many people to be unhappy or to feel unwell (mentally). When I finally stopped repressing my anger and sadness and just let it happen, I started feeling better psychologically. Now, my emotions come and go normally with little to no issue. It's not always pleasant but it's a necessary step towards growing as a person and improving.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO FINALLYYY SOMEONE SAID IT! I used to be really into this “high vibe and low vibe” stuff in early high school and then realized “all emotions are normal and should not be villainized.” It was so validating to realize that lol.
New age is giant black downward spiral in my experience. I left it and never looked back, since then I have gotten off therapy and medication in which I had to go through because of the damage caused by "shadow work" "vibrational" teachings. It was too much to handle trying to always stay positive amidst believing that you are creating what you are experiencing so its all your fault.
Omg thisss, I just realized a couple days ago that I, along with anyone else, can acknowledge and accept their unpleasant emotions and know that it's okay to feel them because constantly being positive is yet another way of running away from your uncomfortable emotions. I still am spiritual but also a lot of these toxic beliefs I used to believe in 4 years ago when I was 16 and using tik tok way too much.
You got off therapy? Ive been thinking about getting off it myself… im not sure I want to be therapized for the rest of my life over every little problem.
@@kristhomas8295 the idea is that you leave therapy when you're capable of handling problems on your own (and possibly come back in case it turns out not to be the case, for example if something major happened and you got depressed again etc.).

Excellent video Dr. Ana :) Our emotions are not inherently good or bad, but we should be mindful if they are in excess or deficiency -- we should neither dwell on them nor should we suppress them. This reminds me of Aristotle's teaching of the golden mean-- we must strive for balance and moderation in our actions and emotions to lead a healthy life. I also recall Irene Lyon explaining how nervous system regulation isn't some enlightened state we achieve where we never feel anything other than ease and calm, but instead it means we are more aware, more capable of feeling what's in our bodies and able to have better flow from dysregulation to regulation. Each of our survival mechanisms (fight, flight, freeze) serve a meaningful function to protect us and communicate something to us.
They're only "toxic" when one refuses to contend with what they know they have to do to work through them and/or tries to blame other people for "causing" them... which if impossible.
Another phrase that's common is one by Vicktor Frankel, "Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom". Love to here your thoughts on this as it pertains to a controlled behavior.
So many people on subreddits and Facebook pages around some form of self-improvement or, say, a support forum are constantly saying that negative emotions are bad and that if you're experiencing negative emotions, that's a sign you haven't "healed". And don't get me started on the avoidantly attached people///
I appreciate this perspective. I’ve personally been on both sides of the spectrum and have come to realize no one is 100% right. I agree, we should do things in moderation. Also thinking that we’re better than someone because we are “high vibrational” sounds wrong. We should be uplifting everyone and realize that not everyone has the ability to do things the “right way”. We should just let people be.
Great! Everybody says bad emotion is not good for manifestation and etc,...depress maybe come from fear or try to keep toxic positive emotion. Thank you.❤
can you please do a video on stress, insecurity and fears of the future? somehow soooo many of my university friends and I struggle a lot with future uncertainty (good jobs, high wage, etc), get super stressed because of this, we lose hair due to stress stemming from this uncertainty and therefore become more insecure because we don't feel as good looking as before (due to hair fall, pimples, and other things showing due to stress). What can we do to treat it at home by ourselves? what mindset should we learn to stop this? Apparently it's very common in university students
Haha, at 3:21, I can relate with Dr Ana here. Had a bit of a spiritual phase myself and I read a self help book that said the same thing essentially and my anxiety thinking about how anxiety is bad for the body was overwhelming and at a point I had to reel back. I like to take things from spirituality with a grain of salt nowadays.
I would like to add that many of us in the esoteric community have noticed this, particularly those of us who follow the so-called left-hand path and believe in self-mastery through confrontation with, and eventual integration of, the inner darkness. A lot of the New Agers are basically just toxic religious people with a different aesthetic. They may have distanced themselves from traditional religions like Christianity, but they're still immersed in the values of "purity culture". They can really do a lot of damage to people seeking new forms of spirituality after fleeing religious abuse.
The left hand path can only lead to catastrophe, I advise you to steer away from that. We have to be pure and virtuous, with the end goal being to merge with the absolute, not to deify the lower temporary aspects of ourselves. The higher aspects should remain in control and tame the animal side of us if we are to progress spiritually.
I agree all emotions serve a purpose. They are like pain receptors that protect us from danger. No doubt that people misrepresent religion. I do not believe that physical punishment corrects children's behaviour. This was proved during the 16th century Protestant Reformation period. Pain should not be intentionally triggered onto another person. Yes moderation is the key to success in all areas of life..
Somehow some people today in modern society still advocate hitting children to discipline them. The only reason that works in a sense is because a lot of children will live in fear of being punished so they stop acting out. The parent in that case simple doesn't know how to handle their own negative emotions and they don't know how to handle the stress of rowdy children.
@@zonefreakman seems like a lack of education on the parents part living in a primal state of a more barbaric past in human history. The damage done to children is hidden within them and effects them later in life. No wonder we have so much crime and mental disorders these days. The parents themselves are more than likely to have been victims of punishment in childhood and repeating these behaviours.
@murtazaarif6507 My parents were physically abused as children, I won't call it discipline because that diminishes the abuse that happened. Their parenting style I think reflected that because they were really hands off to the point of almost extreme neglect.
Thank you so much for calling out the hierarchy of enlightenment in a reasonable way. I can’t stomach these terms and they trigger a strong sense of injustice, but pushing against them can feel like making myself a target for being labeled too cynical, reactionary, or contrarian (even if just from my own inner critic.)
IDEA FOR A VIDEO: How to approach close friends and relatives who are going down that spiritual route in obsessive way, and are not ready to hear your arguments :)
The still, small voice can be heard if one is quiet enough, so we shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to receiving guidance, but I do agree with you - there is a hell of a lot of bathwater in so-called New Age spirituality.
When I was bullied in school, my mom said that I should try understanding why the other kids didn’t like me and that there was probably something wrong with me
I will point out some important mentions you have made: (1) "There are no positive or negative emotions." Yes, basically they are but information of your current energetic field and how it's interacting with whatever's triggering the emotion. (2) "Feeling painful emotions does mean you're going to induce illness." This is a BIG one. In fact, only by truly FEELing* within that pain that you are currently experiencing, will you be able to not carry it with you, which would indeed make you ill. __________________ * now there is a distinction to be made between OPENing up consciously to your current pain vs just feeling pain as it is unavoidably overflowing from having repressed too much. Most people just do the latter, as they have no choice, yet it misses the transformative power it has.
Nobody else is going to say this so I'm going to tell you all the most important realization you can ever have in regards to your emotions. You must not identify with them. Instead of thinking "I am fearful" or "I am in love" just think "my mind is fearful" or "my mind is in love". Don't let an emotion become your identity. This way you can avoid translating emotions into fixed personality traits. Just because you felt fear once doesn't make you a "coward" and just because you felt courage once doesn't make you a "warrior". Let yourself be fluid and very meta, don't be bound by personality. You are much greater than your memories, body, and mind you are something that can tap into other bodies and minds and personalities and channel them at any time. Your whole life is just a temporary relation of the self (awareness+will) with a given body and mind. Your true self is not confined in space and time and can go and take a break from the current life you are living to go live another. You can achieve this realization just through meditation practices but from the reports I read about DMT (which I haven't tried yet) it seems that drug could also help people achieve this too.
this is how you get personality disorder 😢, why not just experience what's happening in the moment and not overcomplicate it by overanalyzing our emotions
Narcissism is only viewing people as in a hierarchy. Compassion/empathy is viewing all people as having value. Enlightenment is understanding that people are both. They are all in a hierarchy but we start with fundamental value because we are human. These two always seem to get mixed up. Some people are better than other. But this only goes for the metric you're using to measure. Once you start evaluating all the metrics a human can be measured on the the water becomes muddied and evaluation becomes inaccurate. This is why we return to fundamental value. It's not a measurable metric, but everything else is. Conflating your high or low rank on a metric with fundamental human value leads to narcissism. Which is ultimately based on an insecurity.
Thanks Ana, very interesting video again! I have a question for a future video: how do you know for sure that you are processing and feeling your emotions and not thinking about your emotions? I have a hard time distinguishing between those two states.
My mom used to tell me the reason I got sick a lot is that I am evil and my relationship with god isn’t good enough.. she thought everything that happens to someone is “their fault” or deserved.. like even children with cancer
Would love to hear more about your views on religion! I have had personal relationships end due to secular and humanistic values I hold often coming in conflict with toxic opinions/positions that old friends and family strongly subscribe to (this being because of their dogmatic-religious takes).
I feel that most preachy lifestyles try to equate & tie in something (like eating or faith) to a sense of personal value, making it easier to control that sense of value in others via that stand-in to achieve whatever goals the person/institution has (that goal usually being power in its many forms).
Just like anything, spirituality taken unfiltered is dangerous. Always proceed with caution, or else you may go into something else in a too extreme manner to protect yourself from what was previously practiced, and it becomes a vicious cycle.
Rd desires, I heard a story from Kate Winslet abiutvthis. Not spiritual but it is to do with the Sublime. So she was on set for Hamlet, and the actors did an ice breaker. Kenneth Branagh got everyone in turn to say why they became actors. So many others told the probable kids that they were there for higher reasons, art, make people aware of isdues. Kate, who was very new at this point and around a lot of more experience and higher profile actors at the time was honest and said "I do it for me". And she was respected for that. She was honest. It's a similar, secular way of saying "God told me to do it" rather than admit it's about you
i wish some content about the super sensitivity of epople and how they take their feelings to justify unreasonable impulsive damaging actions that ghost or suppress the interest of another
This topic reminds me that I have a close friend who's extremely anxious, self-critical, and feels compelled to meet everyone's expectations. By everyone, I mean friends, family (immediate and extended), acquaintances, and even strangers. This friend is antagonistic towards religion and most philosophical concepts in regards to spirituality. (Oh, and Jungian views, btw. We watched one of Ana's videos and it pissed my friend off.) (They do speculate that Karma might be real.) They're constantly in pain. They have continual stomach cramps, due to knots, and chest pains, due to an accelerated heart rate (at times in the 200s). I'd like to impart some of my spiritual believes, but have no really mechanism by with to do that. I would feel much better if they could find balance and peace in their life. Unfortunately, their idealized solution to their emotional pain is self-deletion, which I'm opposed to, but have very little control over their actions.
My stepdad used to say the most ridiculous things, claiming that god told him to say or do something. For example he said that it was okay for him to smoke because it is good for his mental health and that it won’t have any effects on his health because god protects him. At the same time he judged people who drank alcohol or did other stuff that he didn’t do.
I wish we would make a better distinction between conscious awareness and the rest (the unconscious), since it's probably the best way to understand emotions as messengers (from the unconscious), as well as replace responsability externalization without guilt or recklessness : we're not responsible for the thoughts that are presented to our conscious mind, but we are very responsible for the way we act on those thoughts.
God bless you. It's so flipped script to tell people you've got this disorder and this illness if you do this and this. Maybe you try to help, but in the end it can harm a person.
As someone who was in the spiritual community i feel like this video isnt representing the spiritual community but specific beliefs of certain individuals. I never heard this stuff from anyone actually into spirituality
I could never stand those new age cult and "good vibes" idiots. They are some of the dumbest people in this planet who actually genuinely think they are spiritual and just "know stuff". I put them in the same category with online wellness and life coaches and cult/occult leaders.
It’s interesting to think about the way trendy new age has twisted traditional teachings. A lot of actual traditional spirituality that are not known much tend to be logical and focused on using negative emotions etc in ways that help you grow.
I am an atheist that struggles with psychosis. So I don't experience religious delusions, I just think people are out to get me sometimes...not that it is much better but idk, I feel like my time in college gave me a grounding in reality. The voices still tell me I am telepathic alot though. It isn't comfortable. I have been around people who did have religious delusions though...grew up in the pentacostal church. Holy rollers lol
That's why it upsets me when people bring up Joe Dispenza and tell me my psychosis is some spiritual issue caused by the calcification of my pineal gland, or how I am manifesting negativity and that's why nobody wants me...idk it's to much to explain.
And what if those "voices" are also incarnated and in external bodies, than your own? Also we all are, by EMF and thoughts from one to another and many?
I'm no atheist, and I believe in some weird stuff. But the whole high vibration thing is definitely too weird for me. Calling it narcissism is probably accurate.

And don't get me started on the avoidantly attached people///
I like the definition of there are no good or bad emotions, but pleasant and unpleasant ❤
Thank you so much. It‘s so important that more people talk about this theme. Things can get really dangerous if you‘re in that bubble
I would say this as advice: Take no one's advice and think with your head, in other words, believe your instincts.
Then I will not take your advice and keep your wisdom in mind
very true
Dr. Ana you cannot measure how helpful your videos have been for me on many stages of my life. Thank you so much for your hard work ❤
Always happy to see a new video from you
Great! Everybody says bad emotion is not good for manifestation and etc,...depress maybe come from fear or try to keep toxic positive emotion. Thank you.❤
I'm glad I dropped New Age for Atheism in college! I like a therapist who considers my feelings natural and healthy!
can you please do a video on stress, insecurity and fears of the future? somehow soooo many of my university friends and I struggle a lot with future uncertainty (good jobs, high wage, etc), get super stressed because of this, we lose hair due to stress stemming from this uncertainty and therefore become more insecure because we don't feel as good looking as before (due to hair fall, pimples, and other things showing due to stress).
You sound so calming, I enjoy listening to you
IDEA FOR A VIDEO: How to approach close friends and relatives who are going down that spiritual route in obsessive way, and are not ready to hear your arguments :)
The yin and yang comes to mind when you mentioned bits of truth sprinkled into teachings.
That's not what yin yang means
@@JustFollowingOrders12 to me it means the opposite of black and white thinking. That said, we can see that nothing is without some of it's opposite.
@@kyledevane8782 I feel you. I thought you meant something else.
Love all your videos and insight ❤
The still, small voice can be heard if one is quiet enough, so we shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to receiving guidance, but I do agree with you - there is a hell of a lot of bathwater in so-called New Age spirituality.
Oh I love this topic!! Thank you for speaking about this!
Jung mentioned synchronicity in his work as being mysteriously correlated as confirmations.
What we also experience? ; ;
One of the most useful pieces of content I've watched recently, thank you for making these videos❤
Pastors do the same things as gurus. I've heard plenty of saying, "God is speaking through them"
Great video and so happy I found such a brilliant doctor 😢
thank you for creating this channel, all the info you post is truly helpful! have a nice week!
When I was bullied in school, my mom said that I should try understanding why the other kids didn’t like me and that there was probably something wrong with me
This resonated with me even though I come from an evangelical christian background. I think there's a lot of overlap. Thank you!
I will point out some important mentions you have made:
(1) "There are no positive or negative emotions." Yes, basically they are but information of your current energetic field and how it's interacting with whatever's triggering the emotion.
(2) "Feeling painful emotions does mean you're going to induce illness." This is a BIG one. In fact, only by truly FEELing* within that pain that you are currently experiencing, will you be able to not carry it with you, which would indeed make you ill.
__________________
* now there is a distinction to be made between OPENing up consciously to your current pain vs just feeling pain as it is unavoidably overflowing from having repressed too much. Most people just do the latter, as they have no choice, yet it misses the transformative power it has.
Someone who understands it. Thank your for providing some clarity.
>energetic field
lol, what? from where are you basing that claim?
What’s that old saying? “It’s fine to talk to your god, but when your god talks back it’s time to see a doctor”
lol this is gold
2:14 - Pleasant, painful, and scary would be a third category (when your subconscious throws something at you that's not ethical).
Great video. Thank you 👏
Thanks for this, doc
Great topic! This needs to be discussed more often
You can achieve this realization just through meditation practices but from the reports I read about DMT (which I haven't tried yet) it seems that drug could also help people achieve this too.
compartmentalize your emotions helped me but at the same time I start to feel like a robot..
this is how you get personality disorder 😢, why not just experience what's happening in the moment and not overcomplicate it by overanalyzing our emotions
Thank you! I needed to head this!
I love this video! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone address this topic before
Narcissism is only viewing people as in a hierarchy.
I’ve just been thinking about this, thank you!
The Dr. does a very valuable public good.
My mom used to tell me the reason I got sick a lot is that I am evil and my relationship with god isn’t good enough..
she thought everything that happens to someone is “their fault” or deserved.. like even children with cancer
Please 🙏 everyone in Sedona Arizona listen to this.
There is a reason why we feel certain things, it's an obligatory step to healing
Just like anything, spirituality taken unfiltered is dangerous. Always proceed with caution, or else you may go into something else in a too extreme manner to protect yourself from what was previously practiced, and it becomes a vicious cycle.
I like that you addressed this thanks
Rd desires, I heard a story from Kate Winslet abiutvthis. Not spiritual but it is to do with the Sublime. So she was on set for Hamlet, and the actors did an ice breaker. Kenneth Branagh got everyone in turn to say why they became actors. So many others told the probable kids that they were there for higher reasons, art, make people aware of isdues. Kate, who was very new at this point and around a lot of more experience and higher profile actors at the time was honest and said "I do it for me". And she was respected for that. She was honest. It's a similar, secular way of saying "God told me to do it" rather than admit it's about you
Thank you ❤️
i wish some content about the super sensitivity of epople and how they take their feelings to justify unreasonable impulsive damaging actions that ghost or suppress the interest of another
6:22 now I have a word for what I've been doing to get through life and my relationships. Lol
Unfortunately, their idealized solution to their emotional pain is self-deletion, which I'm opposed to, but have very little control over their actions.
this format really suits me
Thank you.
hehe yes i allow you to reassure me
15:57 yes
16:05 yep it’s a symptom of narcissism
Healthy people acknowledge that we all have worth
damn, this is why ive been following ana for 3 years. Straight to papers. Just let meta-analysis do the talking. Love from India ❤
Virtue is the golden mean between two vices - one of excess and one of deficiency.
- Aristotle.
This is very helpful and validating. More people should talk about this matter 🙏❤️
I LOVE YOU FOR THIS VIDEO THANK YOU SO MUCH
well-said. 👏
really liked this video
you got a new sub!
Great nuance !!!
Great video
It’s interesting to think about the way trendy new age has twisted traditional teachings. A lot of actual traditional spirituality that are not known much tend to be logical and focused on using negative emotions etc in ways that help you grow.
Anyone who believes that negative emotions are toxic should just go watch Inside Out 🤷🏻♂️
It's interesting to observe these 'new age' belief systems are alot like old religions packaged as new religions
I’m genuinely interested in Ana’s spiritual/ religious life
for a second I thought she said "why don't I pivot to talk about something alot less dangerous: meth!"
Shame from feeling anxious is amplified during pregnancy because now you're harming your baby.
I want to see a collab of u amd Dr. K
