The Dark Den thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed the video! Feel free to send me a photo/video of your vines you make to my fb page (link in all video descriptions) and I'll share it in a future video to show viewers what you made following the tutorial!
Black silicone works great! The only issue there is that finding s1 or pet safe silicone in that colour can be a bigger challenge unless its those small tubes of expensive aquarium silicone you can find at a proper pet store.
I am extreamly interested in making a free range enclosure throughout my room for my chameleon, and these vines are perfect! The natural look is amazing. Would these vines be good (long term) to be kept out in a room? I would I like to string these from his cage to a tree to another tree, etc etc. Do they need to be maintained in anyway? Thank you for being so creative!
Love love Love this. Love the look of your model terrarium and the vines fit so naturally. I wanna make these for a Royal Python room. This one loves to climb so I want them to be able to climb on these (they're going to do it anyway, whether they should or not lol), so do you think reinforcing the vines by wrapping layers upon layers of burlap on top of one another would make it strong enough to hold the weight of a snake that could get up to 8 pounds? And any ideas for adhering securely if the terrarium putty isn't a strong enough hold?
Wow thank you for this! I don't have a terrarium but I'm using this method to make jungle vines for an animated short I'm working on. I will definitely leave a link to your channel after its done if that's okay with you!
I had the same idea to make vines for my Chameleon, didnt thought of burlap thats actually way easier. I will add wire in the center of the vines because i think the wont be strong enough to hold m chameleon without the wire. Great video now i know my idea works, thanks!
us! You may not recognize the name (or obviously the silly profile picture) but I came into your store today and bought several supplies for a dart frog viva rum. I just want to thank you very much for the expertise and help you offered me! I will definitely have to try this out but I was wondering if I could have an email or contact just incase I have questions or concerns because from the answers and tips you gave me and my family today I know I could count on you for the real deal since you are a "herpthousiast"as well as a collecter of dart frogs! Love the videos! Have a nice day!
This is so awesome!! Do the vines end up being rigid at all? I'm wondering how likely they might be to support the weight of an adult crested (if anchored sufficiently)
I'd love to try these for my Iguana but highly doubtful they'd hold him as a full grown adult. but he's a tiny guy right now. so I may give it a shot for temporarily.....
Natural burlap is quite resistant to rot, but rot it will. For my herp tanks where humidity is high I use this same technique using a natural-looking, soft nylon rope. I can't remember where I bought the rope I'm using now, Home Depot maybe, but it looks and feels like organic hemp rope! I unravel one end as I apply the silicone/peat moss and it ends up looking exactly like a vine or root branching off! They last nearly forever and don't mold or rot.
Could these be aquarium safe? I plan on making temple ruined type of scape for my 25g cube and would love some vines to glue some plants to. My main worry would be dirt getting everywhere!
has anyone tried this with a flexible wire inside? I'm thinking of trying it so I can bend the vines how I want after they are done. I'm gonna try it, i'll comment if it works
I used a wire that was coated, it was specified as garden wire. For the most part I think it worked but my gloves were actually too big on my hands which complicated it more, I haven't gone and checked on them just yet so i'll see how they are
Unfortunately I don't have much advice for that but I'd youtube how to install computer fan for terrarium/vivarium :). Hope that helps/don't forget to subscribe!
I would imagine that if you wanted thicker vines, use rope of the appropriate thickness, coat in silicone and wrap the burlap around the rope. Hmm... 🤔
You really need to twist hard and work the silicone in and keep adding more and more of it as you twist and kneed it into the burlap. If that doesn't work, you can also use rope. Remember that the fray's actually provide the vines with a natural look so don't worry about such things too much! :)
Nirvana Sup if you intertwine a few together and use silicone to adhere them to each side of the enclosure, they certainly should be able to :). If they are Pygmy chameleons or smaller species the terrarium putty would suffice.
Danny Fletton there is absollutely nothing wrong with using peat moss. It has a better, less strand-like texture than coco fibre. Peat moss also naturally lowers ph levels. Just make sure you aren't using peat moss that contains fertilizers. Curious, why do you think peat moss is bad?
Raycharles 52 by all means, you could, however you wouldn’t necessarily have the same effect/less rigid look. Also keep in mind not everyone has access to natural vines ;). Thanks for watching!
Oh man, this seems great! I wanted to know how to make fake vines for quite a while now. Definitely gonna use it in my builds!
The Dark Den thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed the video! Feel free to send me a photo/video of your vines you make to my fb page (link in all video descriptions) and I'll share it in a future video to show viewers what you made following the tutorial!
I might actually do that. Btw, have you tried using black silicone?
Black silicone works great! The only issue there is that finding s1 or pet safe silicone in that colour can be a bigger challenge unless its those small tubes of expensive aquarium silicone you can find at a proper pet store.
Hehe, I'm asking because I have only black atm, for aquariums ofc :D
Wow, that's more straightforward than I expected! I can't wait to try these out. Thanks for the informative vid.
33 Screaming Frogs thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video :)!
My husband and I made some of these for our Boa that’s supposed to be arriving today. They look awesome!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!

They actually look really good, I may try this! Nice quality as well
Arizona Vivariums Thank you so much! If you do try it, send me a photo/video and I'll feature it in an upcoming video!
We need more guys like this in the hobby..
I'm definitely saving this. I'm thinking of getting a crested gecko in the bear future and this would be amazing to do / use
Wow thank you for this! I don't have a terrarium but I'm using this method to make jungle vines for an animated short I'm working on. I will definitely leave a link to your channel after its done if that's okay with you!
For the work surface, I use wax paper. Silicone doesn't adhere to it, and it's easy to clean up.
Genius! Thanks for all your excellent tutorials!
Kalle Wahlbäck Thanks so much!
You're so creative!! I'll be definately trying this with my rainbow boa.
Thank you! Don't forget to subscribe! :)

Dude they look great I might do a couple of these for my chameleon setup
The struggle is watching this in 2020 and not being able to find gloves anywhere to do this😭😭😭

Aidan McQueen it was a pleasure meeting you and your family! Thanks for the kind words!
Sure! reptiliatus.saylany@gmail.com
These are excellent. So much better than the overpriced, fake looking "vines" sold by zoomed and the like.
Wow I am very impressed! This looks amazing
Very nice! This looks like it'd work great for my nursery-rescue anole, thanks for the tutorial!
Oh wow I'm shocked it's that easy
Gaming Assassin175 it really is! Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe! :)
2:42 I was like Oh thats a cool cinematic shot and then I realised his camera was just tipping over
Haha that’s why I left it in the video 😅. Thanks for watching!
Well I'm impressed!
রকিবুল আনোয়ার thank you!
Would it work with rubber tubing and insert wire through the tubing and use burlap and silicone and soil??
This idea is amazing! I frayed my fabric more than this and created ROOTS!
Creative and gorgeous
Awesome!! I might try it .
Vee-Sent-Daey's -EnDZ Awesome! Be sure to send me a photo of your vines if you do and I'll feature them in an upcoming video!
This is so awesome!! Do the vines end up being rigid at all? I'm wondering how likely they might be to support the weight of an adult crested (if anchored sufficiently)
AJ Nazzaro they do gain some rigidness but you could always use rope instead of burlap!
I'd like to know how to prevent mold growing on my cactus carcass that I picked up in the? Is there spray paint that prevents mold from growing
Can those vines hold up a eventually 7 ft red tail boa? Or would I need to wrap several of them together?
How long before burlap rots in a wet jungle vivarium?
Great sulution, thanks for the inspiration :)!
I'd love to try these for my Iguana but highly doubtful they'd hold him as a full grown adult. but he's a tiny guy right now. so I may give it a shot for temporarily.....
jay duvall make them with ropes instead of burlap! :)
I realize this is a very old video but I'm wondering how long until your vines were oderless?
Does this work for chameleons?
thank you for sharing thats a grate idea
I love the idea of this but, will they rot or cause any other issues in a very humid environment?
Natural burlap is quite resistant to rot, but rot it will. For my herp tanks where humidity is high I use this same technique using a natural-looking, soft nylon rope. I can't remember where I bought the rope I'm using now, Home Depot maybe, but it looks and feels like organic hemp rope! What if you used tree fern fibers instead of peat for a natural look.
Do you think this could work with other materials? I don't have burlap, but I was thinking of trying this with yarn.
Probably would work!
@Reptiliatus - I'm going to try it! Thanks for responding! This vid is 6 years old! So thanks!!!
i thought you said you would link to a putty video?
Hello. Can i use hot glue instead silicon(the hardware store is far)
Would these be safe to use in my aquarium??
Great!
would these work good for just décor?
would this work to create a custom bonsai tree? would love to make one for my aquascape
Absolutely! Use some creativity and I'm sure you can figure something out for yourself :)!
Are these safe for hermit crabs?
Love your video's. Would there be another option besides that (not sure what english word is) but brown bag you use
Junglecp hey! Thanks so much! Yes, I think the brown bag you are talking about is actually made of burlap! Like a potato bag right?
Yes thats the one i mean. Ill be trying most of your tips and tricks next week. Have two cages to work on. 2 x 2 x 4 feet tanks
Wonderful! Feel free to send some photos to my fb page (link in my bio) and I'll feature the vines you made in an upcoming video! :)
Happy to do that. Will do this this week. Also will be making your potty as you call it. Ill be calling it Clay ;)
Junglecp lol it's *Putty clay ;). Sounds great! Good luck!
OG awsome!
Where do you get the peat moss soil/substrate? All the ones I can find have fertilizers or are literally just moss, not soil-like.
Go to the hardware or gardening store and look for sphagnum peat moss, it usually comes in kind of a compressed bag.
How long does this stuff last? Could I store the extra in a plastic baggy?
It lasts a long time! Yup, you can do that :).
Or you have an amazing source of inspiration or just a lot of fantasy to create this
Niel persoons haha thank you! I try and get creative with my projects! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Could these be aquarium safe? I plan on making temple ruined type of scape for my 25g cube and would love some vines to glue some plants to. My main worry would be dirt getting everywhere!
If you use aquarium grade silicone, it should work out fine. Ik I’m 3 years late but did your tank ever work out for you?
@@youlikejazzgaming I ended up making a walstad tank just with plants. My water without a rodi system doesn't work well for fish
Great looking ! Ill try it for sure ! :D Thanx ! Btw. Iam from Mike :P
Reptitula thanks for you support and thanks for subscribing and watching my videos/channel!
No problem ! I love to support great channel :P Going to look on lot of videos from your channel cos my boring work shift just started :D
has anyone tried this with a flexible wire inside? I'm thinking of trying it so I can bend the vines how I want after they are done. I'm gonna try it, i'll comment if it works
MeggieRoseBug101 please do! I'm sure it will work! Just try to use something like stainless steel that won't rust :)!
I used a wire that was coated, it was specified as garden wire. For the most part I think it worked but my gloves were actually too big on my hands which complicated it more, I haven't gone and checked on them just yet so i'll see how they are
Sounds great! Let me know :)
Depending on the species of flora/fauna, copper wire should be avoided.
That's a great idea too!
Hey I would like to add some fans small fans to my vivarium is there any advice you can give me
Unfortunately I don't have much advice for that but I'd youtube how to install computer fan for terrarium/vivarium :). Hope that helps/don't forget to subscribe!
I would imagine that if you wanted thicker vines, use rope of the appropriate thickness, coat in silicone and wrap the burlap around the rope. Hmm... 🤔
Mark Speir absolutely!
Doesn't seem to work with mine ! My burlap is a lot thicker than the one you have in the video ..I've tried break no it up abit but frays a lot
You really need to twist hard and work the silicone in and keep adding more and more of it as you twist and kneed it into the burlap. If that doesn't work, you can also use rope. Remember that the fray's actually provide the vines with a natural look so don't worry about such things too much! :)
We can used this type terrarium as a aquarium with full water with putting real woods
Yes you can! :)
Is 100% silicone II ok as well?
I would try to find the SI. SII isn't completely safe but I know some friends of mine do use it with success.
could these hold a chameleon?
Nirvana Sup if you intertwine a few together and use silicone to adhere them to each side of the enclosure, they certainly should be able to :). If they are Pygmy chameleons or smaller species the terrarium putty would suffice.
Reptiliatus ok thanks
Nirvana Sup no problem!
Great video but you should never use peat moss you should use coco fibre instead

Reptiliatus I do, it's awesome! Keep it up!
Can you use a glue gun
I need about 30 meters lol
Where tf the mango tree at nigga I've been watching your videos since like 7 years ago where's it at lol
TheRandomguy9910
🤔😮
Couldn't we just go and cut some vines from a real tree
Raycharles 52 by all means, you could, however you wouldn’t necessarily have the same effect/less rigid look. Also keep in mind not everyone has access to natural vines ;). Thanks for watching!
Reptiliatus this channel is great by the way lol I was binge watching like I was on Netflix or something lol I just got into the hobby
Raycharles 52 Thanks for the kind words! Really means a lot to know you enjoy my content!
Hi there new subscriber.. I love this!! I was looking to make vines for my enclosures and there you were... Thank You!!
